Why are there so few 28mm prime lenses for mirrorless cameras to choose from? Sony only makes 1 which isn't very good. Sigma makes one that is a big and heavy f/1.4 and Leica makes them. But the Leica ones are really expensive.
>>3892403Because it's the phone length
>>3892403Doesn't leica sell a good 28mm lens with a camera permanently attached to it
>>3892403>Why are there so few 28mm prime lenses for mirrorless cameras to choose from?At a wild pulled-out-of-my-ass guess, I'd suspect that 28mm isn't as popular these days for meme reasons.I.e., when people are going for wide these days, they're going for *extreme* wide. Ultrawide lenses used to be a lot more rare and expensive, so 28mm was about as wide as most systems went (to the extent that Leica bodies didn't even have 28mm framelines at first, and they still don't have anything wider than that). And now that cellphones usually ship with lenses in the ~28mm-equivalent range, that sort of focal length is becoming associated more with cheap photography than aspirational photography.I know that Samyang makes a 24mm f/2.8 for E mount (and, in fact, I have one right in front of my face right now). 24mm isn't *that* much different from 28mm in practice. >>3892403Honestly, I have a hard time finding reason to use my 28mm lenses. I like being able to isolate the subject from its context in some way, and it's hard to do that with a wide-angle lens.
Not made in Japan? Not even considering it.

>>3892485all the electronics are made in china anyway, it's all just assembled in japan

>>3892523higher quality how?
>>3892516good enough for me let the chinamen do the heavy lifting, let the japanese be in charge of the finer details
>>3892528Zoom ring is stifferLens mount is tighterSmooth jet controlled feeling to the focus ringSerial number and certifcation engraved instead of a stickerCan't say much about the optical qualities because my old Made in Thailand xf 55-200 got stolen, but as far as haptics go, the Japanese one is superiorJust bought an xf 18-55mm made in Japan and the seller said he's had four of them altogether and the non-Japanese ones were all wonky in one way or another. Afaik Fuji now only produces the cheaper ones in the Philippines and the more expensive red badge ones in Thailand as China and Japan have become too expensive. Some people say what matters isn't production but quality control but I guess there's only so much you can control externally. Plus if you've seen the old vids from the Fuji manufactures, it's somewhat dubious that someone in the Philippines without the same attachment to the corporate culture will deliver the same results. But that might as well be bogus. In any case, I'd always test different models of the same lens if I get the chance and in doubt buy the one made in Japan.
>>3892539Should probably mention though that the new Japanese lens sometimes has trouble autofocusing on monocrome, even spaces. Never occurred with the old Thai one although that may also have to do with switching to the X-S10 (something I regret, but my X-T20 was stollen together with the lens)Or maybe I've just never really shot at monochrome, even surfaces before
>>3890975I haven't used it but follow a lot of bird photographers who have been picking up the z6 ii as an extra camera lately. The autofocus is quite a bit better on the z6 ii than the z6, but neither are as good as top nikon dslrs. If you're shooting herons or ducks it'll be fine, but birds in flight or warblers in a forest will struggle a bit, and I think in dark situations the focus won't be as good either. On the other hand the high ISO performance is apparently stellar which is great for wildlife.

I have primes at both focal lengths myself and they're both very useful. When shopping for used camera bodies, make sure they're fully working, they look to be in good condition, make sure the shutter count is relatively low (these are pro bodies so they should be rated for lots of shutter actuations, but try to find one under 50,000 shutter if you can), and keep in mind you'll need to buy a memory card, too. >>3894735thanks, figured that
>>3894732the smaller X-T2 might make you feel more stealthy on the streets, which is a huge plus if you're shooting real street (getting close to people, photographing them from the front, etc.). colors are meh, unless you're shooting jpeg only (don't shoot jpeg only) you will need to learn to edit anyway to get the colors you want. you can just buy or download a filter pack and use that in post software if you want to change colors easily. on the other hand, the D610 will win in overall image quality, low light performance, lens quality, and battery life, and your lenses will already be full frame should you ever decide to upgrade to a newer full frame camera.
>>3894737bro they're both modern cameras, they're both gonna take beautiful pictures if you know what you're doingyou're asking beginner level questions which will give you beginner level answers, if you already knew this, why even ask? seems like you've got life figured out pretty well yourself
>>3894732go with d610, you won't regret. access to amazing value AF-D lenses
>>3894567Small and low resolution comparatively. For me, I don't necessarily mind it being tiny, I'm coming from using an a6400 and a6600 -> A7CThe EVF is even junkier than the APS-C a6600's EVF. You can't ensure you're nailing focus or have a clear image without a clear EVF. The screens on these cameras are also hot dogshit, especially in daylight. Literally can never tell what's in focus by just looking at the rear screen, need the EVF. Also, the APS-C models had a detatchable eyecup you could switch out if needed. A7c has no eye cup. You have to buy a Chinese 3rd party work-around that plugs into the hotshoe, having a plastic bar that goes across the camera to the eyepiece to get an "eyecup" over the EVF. This didn't even exist for the first 4 months the camera was released, so I mean, at least it's SOMETHING though i suppose

What's a good small tripod? I travel a lot so I need it to be small and portable.I do street and stop motion.
How come don't we have lens caps acting like this?
Does using an adapter (eg using a Nikon mount lens on a Sony a6500) change the f-stop? Also, is it possible to have the mount changed on a lens, instead of using an adapter?
/r/ing : best ISO Q/PI need high ISO. Hesitating between second hand A7SII and X100F but really something low-end will do if the Q/P is good. Don't really care about the rest I just need good lowlight and sharp 16mpx+
>>3896621are you retarded
>>3896621That's kind of what point-and-shoots do.
>>3896638If the adapter doesn't have any glass in it (such as a teleconverter or speed booster) or an adjustable aperture (typically for lenses that either lack an aperture or have an electronic one that the adapter can't control) then there's no light lost and the f/ stop is the same.>Also, is it possible to have the mount changed on a lens, instead of using an adapter?Depends on the particular lens, but usually no
>>3896691Thanks. It's this one:Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter, Contax/Yashica (CY, C/Y) Lenses to Sony E-Mount Mirrorless Camera Adapter
>>3896621>How come don't we have lens caps acting like this?Because a mechanism like that would be finicky and offer less protection for no significant advantage other than looking sick as hell. That being said, there ARE lens caps a lot like that for some point & shoots. The caveat is that it has to be a P&S that (a) has a thread for a lens cap and (b) extends the lens past where the cap goes when you turn it on. Instead of a stargate-like iris, though, they're little flaps that the lens just sort of pushes out of the way. I've got one for my old Sigma DP2, and it's pretty neat. Much more convenient than the stock lens cape. Unfortunately, the DP2 Merrill that replaced it doesn't have an extending lens, so I can't use it with the newer one.
>>3896638>Does using an adapter (eg using a Nikon mount lens on a Sony a6500) change the f-stop?If it's a speedbooster lens, then yes--those effectively change the focal length to be wider, which has the side effect of also making the effective aperture wider, so a .7x speedbooster would give you an extra stop of aperture (more or less). The other situation where yes is if it's an adapter that's also a teleconverter--this is what happens if the flange-focal distance the lens is expecting (i.e., the distance from where it mounts to the focal plane where the film or sensor is) is smaller than the flange-focal distance of the camera is expecting (or only a little bit bigger, such that you can't fit an adapter in the space of the difference between the), so they have to add extra optics to make it a little more telephoto so they can maintain proper focusing ability. You'll see this, for example, with mount adapters to put older manual-focus Canon FD lenses on newer Canon EF bodies, because FD and EF mounts are close to the same flange-focal distance. With the specific example of a Nikon F lens on a Sony E-mount camera like you posited, though, you won't need extra optics for a dumb adapter, so the aperture will only change if you have a speedbooster adapter.
>>3896746Nope; that one won't change the aperture
Just bought a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm 1.4 lens for $10 with it reporting haze. Looks more like fungus; not sure the best way to capture it on the doublet that's in a sealed housing. Was thinking about going full pro as a freelance. I currently have a Canon 600D but I should upgrade soon. Would the Sony A7III be a good bet? If yes, what kind of lenses should I get? I was planning to start with a Samyang FE 35mm 1.4, mainly for portraits, landscapes and videomaking (at least that's the kind of jobs I have contacts for). Is it ok as a starting FF lens? >>3897033If it were me, I'd want the better AF of a native lens. I'd say go for the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 (which you can get used for $500-550) or if you really want f/1.4, get the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 because it will have better AF and optics than the Samyang. Obviously the Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM would be great, but it's also expensive. Otherwise yes, an a7m3 and 35mm prime is a great kit.
It's already June, is Nikon serious about these alleged two new DSLR's coming this year or not?

>>3897149Total speculation at this point as far as I know. Their highest selling camera is the D3500, so one is probably replacing that. They have so many full frame bodies I'd imagine they'd focus on crop DSLRs, so maybe a high end D7500 or D500 replacement for the other one.

I know they're not popular here but I ended up settling on a Sony A7II. Wanted to get a Sony A7RII, but unfortunately second hand prices in my country are just too damn high for it, I've been looking for six weeks and not a single good deal. We're talking $500 difference, I'd rather get another lens. Just contacted the seller, just waiting to get shutter count before I pull the trigger. For now I'm going to get the Samyang 45mm f1.8 with it. I looked at Sony 55mm 1.8 and Sigma 50mm 1.4 but decided I don't want to spend twice the money when the Samyang should be good enough. Not to mention it's smaller and lighter than both(significantly compared to the Sigma), and more recent.
Any comments about the Irix 45mm f/1.4? Playing with the idea of getting a PK-mount version of it.
>receive 5diii>slap on a manual lens to test that it works>exposure image via liveview>take photo>several stops overexposed>research why>find out about exposure simulation>it still is greatly wrong exposure>youtube it>by luck find some old video mentioning a bug>the system saves the last used aperture setting by an electronic lens and exposes using that value for any future non-electronic lens until you use one againHad to reset it to f2 ish by using my sigma 18-35.That's a really big flaw for a dslr.

>>3898336I don't mean like in becoming a professional photographer, I mean just saving some of your regular income and slowly upgrading your current kit as you go along. Maybe rethink your lens setup but keep the camera? Are you using the 55mm a lot or just the zoom for everything? If you sell the 55mm you'd be at least halfway through to the Tamron 70-180mm f2.8, which would give you pretty good coverage. Maybe short for birding but with the A7R4 you can crop quite a bit so should be fine.

Shooting on a Panasonic G9 since it came out and really like it, but I'm considering turning M43 into my mount for video only and switching to an FF mirrorless for my photography. Eyeing the Z5 because of its image stabilization mainly for vintage lenses, but I'd probably get a few of their native mount ones as well. Is the Z-mount system worth investing in, or should I just get an RP and settle for an inferior camera but with better growth with the RF mount?
>>3898474>Is the Z-mount system worth investing in, or should I just get an RP and settle for an inferior camera but with better growth with the RF mount?Z and R are currently roughly equally positioned in the market, since they started up at almost exactly the same time and have similarly massive camera companies behind them. Plus, the start of those lines was extremely recent. So it's kinda too early to say that the R-mount has better growth potential than the Z mount. So I'm gonna say go ahead and get the Z5.
>>3897166tfw had Canon A-1 and Nikon D7200
>>3898516Second hand z6 is the better choice
>>3898313>Thoughts on this? I can't get the thought of having a very complete kit>having a high quality kit.Stick with the Sony kit.Keep in mind that that f/2.8 aperture on the zooms on the MFT kit will only be about as useful as an f/4 zoom on the Sony. What you'd gain from f/2.8 in light gathering ability, you'd lose in ISO performance. And, like, those f/2.8 zooms are going to be really high quality, but they *have* to be really high quality because of the size of the sensor they're projecting on. A mft lens has to be twice as good as the equivalent full frame lens just to break even. Another thing to keep in mind: You've got a ridiculously high-resolution camera. The EM1 II is 20MP vs the Sony's 60MP, so you can do a 2x crop of your A7R4 and get a 30MP image. That means that you can already match a MFT 140mm f/2.8 with the gear you have now and then some.
>>3898313>I like doing landscapesDo not switch
>>3898527How so? What does the Z6 have above the 5 that makes it worth the extra $200 or so? I'll be getting one of the two
Is an angled viewfinder worth buying? A lot of times I've wished wished I had one, but it's hard to say how using it would feel without trying. There's an old Yashica I could get for cheap.
>>3898534I hear you, I'll refrain from doing that trade-off, thank you.On another slightly different topic, would a GFX50 resolve more detail than my A7R4? Given a similar lens (24-70/2.8 vs 32-64/4) would the GFX have better default although it has 11 less MP?
>>3898600much bigger eyeballs/sensor sites on the gfx, it's a better choice.
>>3898600>would a GFX50 resolve more detail than my A7R4? Given a similar lens (24-70/2.8 vs 32-64/4) would the GFX have better default although it has 11 less MP?Maybe a tiny bit more. But looking at DPReview's studio comparison shot (https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/image-comparison), they look so close to identical that spending all of the money you'd need to upgrade seems pretty ridiculous. Just use the gear you have and stop chasing upgrades.
>>3898557the z6 costs 1000 dollars used, the z5 costs like 1500 new and its a recent release so there are barely any on the used market yet

>>3898737MFT is a great system and the thing people keep forgetting about is the fact that MFT can produce really great images. Look at test charts and stuff and you'll think it's a weak system.Take it out into the field and it will provide results. The sensor is far from being "miniscule" though. Most phones have far tinier sensors and yet they're "killing" dedicated cameras. Plus systems like the Pentax Q and Nikon One (CX Sensor) are smaller than MFT. And all those TV shows and movies? Those are often shot on cameras that make use of Super 16 formats, 2/3 or even 1/3 sensors, all smaller than MFT.Take a $250,000 Fujinon lens built for the 2/3 sensor and adapt it to Micro Four Thirds, and you get an image circle half the size of the MFT sensor. You'll need to engage the inbuilt 2x teleconverter to get a usable image.Let's not also forget that "full frame" is also known as "digital small format" (as in 135 film known as small format).
>>3898769not bad at all
>>3898792Oh agreed, some pictures taken on MFT are of my favorites such as this one.But even if there's the possibility of shooting great stuff, not being able to crop or have a stupendously sharp photo kinda irks me, that and there's always something a bit off from the color palette of the pictures I've seen, like there's not that much depth to them, or something is missing, always. I am that kind of gearfag.
>>3898803You can crop, and it'll still look ok and be good for most applications. The thing is... most FF bodies are 24mp and MFT is 20mp, and I really don't see much of a boost from the 4mp - indeed when a camera model upgraded by 4mp with a new rendition... well... it's generally panned as being "disappointing"...Anyway, I can't really say I've seen many unsharp images from MFT, though you need to ignore images out of focus or motion blur.As for the colour palette... Olympus is known for great colour science, so I can't really tell what you mean. A lot of post-processing is very subjective and, I guess right now a desaturated look is pretty popular these days. I can certainly tell you that there are instances when MFT shows its weaknesses, particularly when jumping up to really high ISOs. But even FF cameras struggle with high ISO, and the likes of the Medium Format Hasselblad X1D arguably look worse than MFT at ISO 12400.Basically... noise is weird.

>>3898792>The sensor is far from being "miniscule" though. No, it's miniscule.>and yet they're "killing" dedicated cameras. No they're not. Cameras are losing market share because people take convenience over quality. That's literally the only reason.>Plus systems like the Pentax Q and Nikon One (CX Sensor) are smaller than MFT.The existence of a 2 foot adult doesn't mean a 3 foot adult isn't ridiculously short.>TV shows and moviesVideo deals with smaller resolutions so it doesn't matter as much. You're not right about movies, maybe some TV shows.>Let's not also forget that "full frame" is also known as "digital small format"I'm aware of the history of 135 as a film format and how it became the digital standard. >>3899272Your image is a perfect example of why the D700 is unfriendly, pic related.I've shot beginner Nikons and pro Canons and yet the D700 intimidates me with its cluster of buttons on top of a dial on the left and the lack of a PASM dial.
>>3899305Probably just retards, but maybe they got confused and checked prices for the F2.8 when putting it up? That one is $2.7k so $1.8k used would make sense.
>>3899339nah he has has the 800 and 600 mm rfs for 200 more then retail too
>>3899147If you want more light in your image, you need a bigger hole.
>>3899038Google them?Pentax forums has piles of threads on vintage lenses for example, you can generally find piles of photograph samples.www.youtube.com/c/Simonsutak is also good.Ebay is full of scalpers but you can find good deals on local sites/fb marketplace.
>>3899305>>3899349He's banking on people needing it ASAP when they are sold out at major retailers.
>>3899416amazon has all 3 for msrp
>>3897650Bought the camera and the Samyang, managed to not get scammed. Hopefully won't regret it. Now to figure out what the fuck am I doing.[EXIF data available. >>3899312Yeah, I can totally understand that. The D700 is a camera that is inexplicitly not aimed towards beginners, that's why it doesn't have a full auto mode. It's aimed at people who already know how cameras work.Even Nikon has realised this and gave the D780 and the Z cameras a PASM dial.
>>3899626Just use it man. A7II is a very capable camera with some flaws and all those cheap chinese AF lense are also incredibly capable with some flaws. For the money you couldn't do much better.
I'm looking for a relative wide angle and fast lens, manual, apsc/fullframe.All of these lenses like 7artisans, what are all those brands? Haven't kept track.
>>3899634Thanks anon, I will. I took some test shots in my backyard an I'm pretty happy with it, tomorrow I'll take it on a hike with me to give it a real test.
>>3899685> apsc/fullframeWell, which is it? A 28mm would be wide angle on full frame but relatively normal on APS-C, likewise a 16mm would be a wide angle on APS-C but an ultrawide on full frame.
/p/hotography and ebay noob hereIs 100€ = 120$ a correct price to a sell a used Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ? I have a buyer and I think maybe I'm selling it too cheap.Also then what's a good price to sell an Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm F4.0-5.6? I'm thinking 370€.
>>3899694Also I'm curious, are those lenses actually any good? Is my mom a pleb? She was into photography for a while years ago. Now she wants me to sell those. I have no clue myself.
>>3899692Either will work, but I'd prefer fullframe.

>>3898769>budget tops out at $800imagine being poor
>>3899694>>3899696$120 for a default kit pancake is a fuckton. 14-150 is also shit, sorry. $60 for the first and $150 for the second tops.
>>3899696>are those lenses actually any goodfirst one definitely worth it, even if shit, it's so small
Thinking of getting an x-e4 but...Used to be a portrait, fashion, lingerie, coomtographer.Had to reactivate my IG account the other day cause I met a young new model who's just starting out and I wanted to shoot with her.God I hate IG and social media like the plague. What's the other option to show off my work and to get contacts/DM easily?Thought about dumping my best stuff on Flickr cause that's at least purely photo based without stories, shopping, and tiktok dances.
>>3899841Fuck i want one
>>3899841Time to retire my d800
>>3900600Flickr is alright but it used to be more active with generally higher quality. Now you get people who will dump a few hundred snap shits at once.Still better than Social Shit Media.
Opinions on any of the following for Sony FE? >Samyang 135mm 2.0(might be my next purchase)>Tamron 24mm 2.8(I know it has bad distortion but other than that it seems great for the price)>maybe Tamron 70-180mm 2.8(I really want one but can't justify spending that much on a single lens just yet, so will probably wait until it hits used market)
Guy is selling a working Nikon F3 with a 50mm and a 100mm Nikkor prime lens, is it a good deal/idea? I've only shot digital
>>3899694>>3899696Other than the kit pancake zoom, most of the older Olympus lens are probably cheap garbage Olympus put out there to appeal to all the Pen users. Now that the MFT system has matured, all the older "M.Zuiko Digital" lenses have essentially been superceded by the "M.Zuiko Premium" lenses (the primes) and the "M.Zuiko Pro" lenses, which consists of their f/1.2 primes and constant aperture zooms.>>3899841A hypothetical Zf would sell like hotcakes, but I feel like the biggest problem such a camera faces is the fact that the FTZ adapter sucks ass.Unless Nikon make a better adapter, much like Sony's LA-EA5 or even the LA-EA4, with full screw drive AF and mechanically operated aperture, then I can only see the Zf being a vintage larp, much like Fuji or Olympus. The Df actually let users mount some of Nikon's oldest lenses, and they worked. If the Zf fails to do the same with an included adapter, then Nikon will just make a full frame Fujifilm X-T4 with a Bayer Sensor.
>>3899852Good luck pulling each of them for that price, lol.
>>3899841Fucking hell, 1/4000th shutter speed again?Hope this means Nikon will put out small lenses because hipsters at least want consistency in terms of lens weight being lifted by their twink arms
>>3899841Please be fullframe
>>3899841Please be a new lineup of MFT Nikon cameras
It's absolutely sinful of fugly the Nikkor lenses are.I was interested in the rumored retro camera, until I saw how it would look like with the lens attached.Almost made me vomit.
>>3900724Nikkor Z lenses are actually very nice to look, nothing garish about them, they just are unless you like golden rings and bombastic lettering like niggers do.BUT on a retro body they are discordant, doesn't help they are all big and the balance will be awful since there's no grip and the underhand posture isn't good either with front-heavy/long lenses. It might be an adapter king but for that Nikon needs a monster EVF with a half-decent focus peaking mode.It also looks slim as hell, the Z mount is protruding in that image.
>>3900726>BUT on a retro body they are discordant,Yeah, I can't describe it very well, but that image triggers the shit out of me, like watching a freakshow.
>>3900724wait a sec... why two sensor planes symbols?[EXIF data available. Click here to show/hide.]Camera-Specific Properties:Image-Specific Properties:Image OrientationTop, Left-Hand
>>3900734People say it's fake rumor, so yeah, it's probably a fake.
>>3900724>>3900734I was almost interested until I saw it was mirrorless
>>3900769Nikon discontinued a bunch more F-mount lenses this week. You will have to make do with mirrorless.
>>3900774If anything I need to hoard F glass.
>>3900769>EVF BAD>DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A BRICK, BAD>E-SHUTTER BAD
>>3900790If anything the antiergonomic bricks are all mirrorless. And yes, EVF sucks donkey dick by the yard.
>>3900790How do you guys feel about Z-mount barrels that are OVER twice the fucking size they need to be?Don't give me any excuses, the AF sucks dicks on the macro, so it's not like the size was necessary for the AF.
>>3900790>EVF SAME AS OVF>NO GRIP NO PROBLEM>FLASH SYNC IS FOR BAD PEOPLE
>>3900774Mostly shitty, outdated lenses with mediocre results to begin with. The F mount lenses people are actually buying - the standard primes, the new 24-70 and 70-200's, the PF telephoto primes etc. are still in production, albeit on backorder because of the chip shortages.
>>3900812>>3900792>MIRRORLESS BODY'S BAD>>3900808I really don't know why most Z mount lenses are this ugly and retardedly big >>3900812EVF is actually better than the Ovf>FLASH SYNC IS FOR BAD PEOPLEIt's a feature, not an obligation, i don't have to have a camera doing CLACK.
>>3900828Nevermind the numbers, I accidentally used the large macro's numbers while the image is of the smaller 50mm.But the barrel ratio is accurate, That 50mm is way bigger than it needs to be, for seemingly no reason at all.
>>3900808>>3900831itt: photography losers who think they know than the optical engineers at nikon
>>3900838Nobody likes hilariously huge lenses.Especially not one swith tiny front element and crawling AF speed.
>>3900808They fired all the designers, havent they?
>>3900808Oh, wait, its f2.8 as well?!
>>3900822>Mostly shitty, outdated lenses with mediocre results to begin withImagine being so ignorant or having such a shit taste>>3900828Faggotog: The Post
>>3900838Everybody else makes the same focal length and faster aperture lens smaller and nicer looking, why can't Nikon? Are they worst?
>>3900848Are you my ring friend?
>>3900847Yeah, Small optics, small front element.Super sloooooow AF.It would have been one thing if the size somehow made the AF fast. But this isn't even the case.
>>3900734This a mockup somebody made using the (supposedly) leaked image in >>3899841 and the image of a Nikon film camera.
>>3890769I've got a D7200, Sigma 17-50 2.8 and DX 50mm 1.8. I really mainly shoot protests and very occasional portraits. People have reached out and bought some prints from me. Now, with $1,000, I'm a baby and need someone to tell me if getting an X100V is retarded. D7200 is just a big clunker and I mainly shoot around 23mm anyways. Any thoughts on X100V vs X100F btw?
