Consistency is more important than accuracy, then again, the best path to consistent editing is accuracy at the shoot. My advice would be to at least strive for neutrality when shooting. Same wb, ligting, iso, in your case. You'll then have lesser obstacles when deciding on the end look.

Unfortunately, my D5300 won't show me histograms during or after shooting, I need to export them to PC first. But on that case, I was using only one weak LED lamp (with trace paper placed in front of it to soften light a bit) and tin foil to reflect it from other side so I guess I messed up lighting overall in first place. At the other hand, I wanted to make lighting more "dynamic". Im still struggling with proper setup so I welcome any suggestions.

The onus of how much processing should be applied to a photograph is on the photographer and it really depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you're going for something that's larger than life, you might want to go really heavy on the processing, while if you're shooting for Reuters or something, you're going to want to do very little processing.

Some photographers will even go so far as full-on image manipulation. Even Rhein II, the most expensive photograph ever sold, had the background and a dog-walker completely shopped out. But it works because the end goal was extreme minimalism.

Again, how much processing you want to apply is really up to you. Personally, I don't think this is too much processing especially in terms of what it seems like you're going for.

So, I have to study various boudoir photography first. Okay then. To be honest - it was just one time experiment, I normally build and photograph mecha models and the like. It's just that I can't realize that little fantasy of photoshooting actual model like this so I picked the one that won't complain. Who would even agree to, anyway?

As for dark photos - original intention was to make model(s) appear a bit more "lifelike" instead of clearly tiny plastic model kits. But again, Im only doing this for relatively short time (2-3 years, once per month or two) so Im not experienced enough. I fear that doing completely even light would make them appear bland and flat.

Speaking of highlights, there is a serious problem I need to solve - whenever I set up light source for shooting plastic models, probably because of the scale, I tend to overexpose one side while having underexposed the other, even when I use A4 piece of tinfoil to reflect the light coming usually from single or two small LED desk lamps. Eh, real models aren't hard to find with a few hundred dollars and even for free if you and your photography look ok. Never as many possibilities as now, really.

Of course shooting figures is nice and fairly easy... or you can expend more time to get "perfection", as you prefer. I personally don't really feel like making them more lifelike, but you could. I'd work a bit more with perspective, maybe long focal lengths, and backgrounds. At least just relative darkness is not doing much for me.

I'd suggest getting some YN660 or whatever the newer versions are. More powerful portable remote controllable flash units. At the extreme, even studio flashes - but that expense isn't profoundly necessary. For figures, I find it easiest to use them on $3-4 ish chinese rigid leg mini tripod stands in most situations.

You do NOT actually need TTL metering or such [I have good TTL flashes, for this use it doesn't really look nice in most cases and you want to manually adjust them either way which isn't even hard since figures don't move]. But you might want the on-camera controller since it's usually nicer to have all flashes off camera.

You can also improvise with other lightt sources but a set of powerful flashes with the same colors and a remote trigger is faster.

For some reason, when I tried to make IG account, it threw error during creation and send no email but when I tried to log in on that email, it said it is blocked. Probably some automated stuff but Im afraid that if I will keep trying, my IP will be marked as "bad" (if it isn't already, I heard stories that FB/IG is very strange acting now toward new accounts).

I do have remote controlled flash unit (YN685) with controller itself (YN622N-TX) and experimented with it a bit but I clearly lack experience required to set up proper exposition times and flash power or Im doing it completely wrong again (like with histograms). Probably matter of practice but so far I was doing it solely with small lamps as light sources. Maybe I should change that.

if you want specific advice, id say heavier editing suits the style of this set more (but watch the highlights her purple scarf looks blown out white in this one). generally you can do what you want, but over the top editing typically gets shit on here and minimal editing gets called boring on insta. sounds like you want to do some of both, so do some of both :) maybe try a light and a heavy version of each image and see which you prefer that day or something.

It shouldn't be that hard, really. Doesn't actually require especially sophisticated functionality on camera for most shots either.

On camera: ISO exactly 100, white balance fixed to 5200k or 5400k or whatever these lights approximately are [just for easier review], shutter to whatever is convenient (handheld like 1/125 or with the camera on a tripod maybe 1/4 just for a not too weird working speed). Then you mainly control the camera aperture and flash light levels for now. Shouldn't be too hard with that.

Bouncing off walls / a softbox is also a decent idea if they're white enough and you want some diffuse light rather than mainly harsh dramatic light.
