Just received my Xpro3. The viewfinder is a vast improvement on the xpro2 and is the same as the X100V which is a good thing.

Does anyone know a good but cheap diffusion filter? I want to try the look but I'm aware it's just a fad that I will get bored of.
>>

Light dusting of hairspray or clear coat on shitty UV filter.
Doesnt get much cheaper than that.
>>
>>3821894
lol I'll try this. Good ghetto rig.
>>
>>3821890
Hoya Diffuser A (or B).
It's the closest thing to soft focus lenses (still not the same obviously) if you're into that.
It's the same idea with little resin bubbles on the surface, like the Zeiss Softar.

But yeah try experimenting first, it doesn't cost anything.
>>
Guys what do you consider to be the minimum mm range for bird shooting? Will 400mm be enough?

If you're happy using a 35mm equivalent focal length then get the X100. I prefer 50mm so was never that happy with it so sold it.

It's lighter than the X-T3 but yea it feels bigger due to the shape. The build isn't noticeably better than the X-Pro2 in my opinion not sure why they hiked the price so much...

I bought a Canon Rebel T5i, babby's first camera. It was $175 with a scratched screen but everything else is in good working order. Except my dumb ass didn't see that it didn't come with a lens(the picture was a stock photo). Looks like I'm in the market for a lens, and I can spend up to $300, but would prefer to spend less than that to make sure I actually enjoy this hobby.

I want to take landscape photos, and pictures of boomer's cars(Lots of requests). Can someone recommend a lens type? When searching for a lens, how will I know it will be compatible with my camera?

buy a cheapo chinese M42 to EF adapter and all the vintage M42 mount glass in the world.
>>
>>3821888
Crazy to think that on eBay for mint condition examples, the Xpro3 is like £600-700 more than the X-T3.
I was planning on getting an XPro3 but when I realised that it's so expensive it's put me off. Now getting an X-T3.
>>
>>3822055
While M42 is fun, I suggest you get an EF-S 18-55mm to get the hang of it. As a newbie it's best to have AF and image stabilization.
>>
>>3822073
imo the canon kit zoom is hella overpriced for what it is. However if you get one for cheapo its a really nice little lens, it lasted me for years until i decided to upgrade to something a bit more prosumer

>M42 to EF
>Vintage M42 mount
Maybe I'm confused, and this is coming from an IT mindset, but is it Camera > M42 > EF, or is it Camera > EF > M42, mating the lens to the camera and not the camera to the lens?

If you already have Fuji lenses, the xpro3 is great. X100V is for if you really want the smaller size and leaf shutter imo. I know the V has a much better lens, but the X100 lenses have never been all that great optically. Xpro3 is snappy and feels really nice to take shots with. Shutter is dampened compared to older X cameras, EV adjust dial is big and you can adjust it with one thumb, and I don’t have to worry about the rear screen flicking on and off from the eye sensor when I’m just walking around. The focus screen in OVF mode works well for focusing M42 and M Mount lenses and is the most usable setup I’ve seen outside of just buying a digital Leica.

Usually it's listed in order of lens mount to camera mount. "M42-NEX" adapts M42 mount lenses to Sony E.

Also, be aware that lenses can only truly be adapted if the lens mount has a larger register (distance to film plane, flange distance) than the camera mount. DSLRs have difficulty with adapting lenses because they have to have space for the flappy bits. For example, Nikon F has a larger register than M42, so it's impossible to get infinity focus in that situation, or to rely on the on-lens focusing scale.

There's adapters with diopter correction. However, they degrade the image and essentially act like teleconverters.

Wow. I didn't quite catch that they were going full "journalist camera" with this back display. Holy shit that is awful. It turns the camera from a useful tool to a niche novelty. >>
>>3825779
I actually really love MFT, but there have been plenty of stinkers in the history of the system.
All the 20mp bodies from Oly and Pana are good. And the vast majority of the lenses are perfect.
The only thing I can complain about are the consumer grade lenses which were intended for cheap bodies intending to compete against the likes of Canon PowerShot or Nikon Coolpix compact zooms.

Of course, the system has evolved into a very mature system. The Kodak S1 and the Olympus E-M1 are two very different beasts. They just happen to share a mount.
>>
>>3827053
What's the major differences between the two?
How do they compare?
>>
>>3827057
Here's pic rel.
And the link.
https://cameradecision.com/compare/Olympus-OM-D-E-M1-Mark-II-vs-Kodak-Pixpro-S-1

An E-M1 Mk. II is a very capable camera. It's not a Mk. III, but the Mk. II goes for about $200 more than the Kodak's MSRP. There are only 3 reasons you'd even consider the Kodak. It's lighter, it has less noise and... its battery life is rated for more shots than the Olympus...
>>
>>3827060
You left out "cheaper" on the reasons list.
>>
>>3827062
The pixpro value proposition is pretty crap in my opinion.
I'd rather take the higher cost of the E-M1 Mk II for its features and higher resolution over the Kodak.
>>
>>3827069
Are there any MFTs that are cheaper than either of those?
>>
>>3827070
Olympus Pen E-PL7, but you'll only find them used.
Olympus Pen E-PL8 might be cheaper if you can find it, but I can't guarantee it.
You could probably find older Panasonic Lumix GX models that are cheap used, but new? Maybe the GX80?

Of course, the other option is the YI M1, which is very cheap, but you'll forego IBIS.
It's Xaomi made though, so the UI is surprisingly slick and it's focused more on smartphone connectivity. I couldn't tell you if it has good IS support with Panasonic lenses, but... eh...
>>
>>3827073
Eh, let me rephrase my question.
Are there any MFTs that are NOT Chinese, that are cheaper than either new?
>>
>>3827074
The answer to that is: it depends on the seller.
The Panasonic GX80 or Olympus E-PL8 are not cameras in demand. Some sellers are selling them for more. Some sellers are selling them for less (to clear out their stock).
>>
>>3821920
there is something i've been always wondering about when i've seen xpro
>xpro gimmick is this hybrid viewfinder
>but if you use optical mode with 50mm lens or more, optical viewfinder stays the same fov, it just draws a smaller box on overlay
are people even using optical mode with this camera when using any lens beyond 35mm equivalent?
>>
>>3828200
Not the x-pro but on the x100v, you can digi-zoom when you twist the focus ring of the lens.

Comes real handy to know the framing of 50mm or 75mm
>>
>>3828200
35mm is perfect for me as the window is clear but any longer focal length would be silly.

At 23mm it takes up the limits of the screen overlay. For a zoom lens, the EVF is he obvious choice.
The OVF is best used from 23-35mm. I’ve just tested and the frame is surprisingly accurate compared with my M240. I guess Fujifilm have tuned it to their lenses specifically.

I see. Thanks for showing stuff, anon, been kinda wondering if there is any way to zoom OVF in since i remember mentions about x-pro1 having variable OVF angle (only for wideangles though, just googled now). If i'll ever get one of x-pro, i guess i'll aim for a pancake-ish 35mm prime as my primary lens.
>>
>>3828272
It’s also worth noting that the EVF size has greatly increased since the X-Pro2. It’s much nicer to use.
>>
Fujifilm owners, what do you set your dynamic range to? I’ve generally left it on auto but wondering if I might be doing it wrong.
>>
>>3828275
If you're shooting raw, DR changes nothing, it just underexposes picture. You'll achieve same effect by reducing exposure by two stops (for 400% setting) and then pulling everything back to normal in lightroom. Heck, if you open raw in lightroom after shooting with DR on, it'll be exactly two stops darker, so you can see exactly what it does. If you're shooting jpeg, it's a pretty great automation and i'd definitely leave it on auto.
>>
>>3828285
Thanks.
>>
>>3828285
I don't see any difference in capture one.
>>
>>3828294
Because it auto-adjusts for DR info, i imagine. LR doesn't do that, so it's darker in there.

Got an m100 for 170 eddies, looking to get a lens or two.
Am I overpaying if i buy a brand new 22mm f/2 for 195 euros, or should I wait for a used lens to pop up in listings?
>>
I wish Fuji adds a rangefinder next time

Will try to put your tips into practice

Nikon Z 50/1.2 makes so much more sense now
>>
The titanium decision was an odd one. It’s very fingerprint prone and almost looks like it corroding but I think it’s rad.

>supplemental grip
>supplemental shutter button
lmao at that point might as well buy a fucking BMPCC and a Wooden Camera cage and grip
>>
>>3828496
I know right.
>>3828497
I used the XH1, XT2, XT3 and XT4. The Xt2 has the best value for money right now, second by the Xt3. XT3 is insanely good for the price as well. Good color, good focusing system, good image quality. XH1 is a bit dated and has weird color IMO but I like it with the grip.

>>3828600
I still can't open the raw file yet. C1 and LR need to get their updates faster. But I will go out and shoot some jpeg today.
>>
>>3828671
you would rather have all this shit stuck permanently to the camera? you know the threaded shutter button has a purpose, right?
>>
>>3828831
H-how much does a fancy aftermarket shutter button cost?
>>
>>3828671
The grip is part of the camera you nonce. The shutter release just helps me find it in a hurry when shooting from the hip.
>>
>>3828868
i think i bought mine for $5? w-what is the point to this question
>>
>>3828893
Huh.
I was expecting a higher price tag.
With how expensive Leicas are these days I figured it would be ridiculous.
(I'm not talking shit about them or anything. I'm just poor and don't know who to take my ancient camera to for a rebuild.)
>>
>>3828896
it's not a leica. its a chinese company making little brass screws and selling them on ebay.
>>
>>3828902
>putting chinkshit on a proper Deutsche camera
But why?
>>
>>3828868
£1.27 on AliExpress.

>>3828905
It’s a Japanese camera. The shutter release is a tool not jewellery.
>>
>>3828905
are you still trolling i can never tell in here
>>

Xpro3 is great apart from the time when the rear screen died. Kinda wish they don't have the eink screen all together.
Hey, they could've put a metal slot there and some (fake) film box lid we could slide in there. I'd still buy that.
>>
>>3828583
Keep, that's a good lens, 12-40/2.8 next and you are set for everything.
>>
>>3828650
Is that the meme Dura black edition?
God I regret so much for not going for it. At the time it's merely 110usd more than the standard version. I hesitated as the reviews says it looks like it's been dug out of a ditch after 30 second of use. A few months later I saw used one on display in the local camera mall and saw a Dura silver version and my god does it look glorious. It looked almost like the contax G2 in the store next door.

Can someone please explain Manfrotto quick release plates to a total brainlet and newfag?

I have a BMPCC6K and I want to be able to quickly change it between my slider, tripod, and shoulder rig. Are all the Manfrotto QRP's standard size/compatible? Is the Manfrotto 501 usable in all the above mentioned applications? Thanks
>>
Whats a good reliable tripod?
>>
>>3829019
I dunno but don't get one of those 20$ ONN ones.
I got one of those and it's a shit. A SHIT.
>>
>>3829023
i've never used a "good" tripod, nor an expensive one, i carry an amazon basics tripod (20 usd) for the few times i use a tripod.

Some people call me an idiot for putting my 3000 USD camera on a 20usd tripod, but the thing just works.
>>
>3829019
something from the Chinese for about $80 dollar should suffice if you are not a heavy user
I personally have a Benro IF19 or something but I've heard that Sirui is good too
>>
>>3829026
Your Amazon Basics thing has to be better than my piece of shit tripod.
The damn thing is just shaky and none of the shit will lock right and it's just a huge pain in the ass to try to use.
I'm not saying I need some super fancy high dollar gold plated whatever, I'm just not happy with this dinky little pile of plastic crap.
>>
>>3828930
Dura black yes. It’s a weird design choice but I’m loving it.
Will start a photo thread soon.
>>
>>3828672
I figured people like it for the grip. It’s reminiscent of the dslr grip so a lot of people are used to that. Personally I own 3 XT-2’s. I bought it when it came out new and then after like 3 years i had it stolen and decided instead of dropping of the XT-3 I’d just get two XT-2 for the same price. Bought a new one for 8 in 2019 and a used one for 650. Just took one off someone’s hands a few week ago for 550 with only like 5k photos on it. These things are the gold standard and they can take quite a beating. I use one of them for everyday not matter the weather. I’ve literally fallen of a bike numerous times, dropped it etc. still works perfectly.
>>
>>3829037
But like why do you have three of the same thing?
I get why someone would want different stuff. I really miss my AX655. That little CCD was orgasmically creamy. (got in a fight with a moth and thought it was a wasp, the camera lost.)
But what's the point of having three of a thing?
>>
>>3829029
>>3829026
I wanna get a decent tripod so I can take it hiking with me, don't really care too much about weight as I'm use to lugging around shit but im just worried about shitty built and wobbly ones. I don't trust any of the 1000+ review ones on amazon unless a /p/ autist shills me one
>>
>>3829101
Just about every tripod is the same. If you're doing landscapes, just make sure it has a:

Built-in level
Two locking points on each leg
A middle pole hook for your daypack/weight

I usually hike with the big gorillapod and a cable release. I can wrap it around a hiking pole if I need a monopod or around a tree branch, wedged in a rock, etc. Probably my most used piece of equipment.
>>
>>3829101
Just got my Manfrotto 055. Goddamned thing is beastly, as another anon pointed out. Only two days in, but I fucking love it. I specifically wanted something with a center support that can go horizontal, though.
>>
>>3829101
>>3829114
... also I have a literal graveyard of shitty chinkshit tripods. Not worth it, anon. Seriously.
>>
>>3829114
Damn glad to hear you like it anon, im not pro enough to warrant a tripod that expensive though so ill just go with the suggestion of the anon above you and find something like that

>>
>>3829119
flebay has all sorts of old "pro" tripods that are not carbon-fibre enough for modern gearpigs. 1000% better than buying a fucking Amazon Basics piece of literal objective garbage, which should be avoided at all fucking costs. (have one in the graveyard, notice.)
>>
>>3829122
I forgot about ebay, what are some brands I should search for?
>>
>>3829118
How do you break them?

Also, how does one of those 200usd carbon fiber tripod manages to stay still when weighting the same as my dinky Amazon basics tripod?
>>
>>3829122
I'm >>3829130

What are those tripods called? I wanna check them out.
>>
>>3829130
Each has its own different calamity; snapped-off knobs, broken joints... The stability comes in having parts that fit together well, come to find out.

>>3829134
maybe something like this, anon:

I use an Instax mini printer for reference prints to use in watercolor work.

The colors are always off, usually to the blue side -- I know some of that is because the film can only render in 256 colors but some of that is probably due to differences in what's on the screen versus the color profile.

Any ways to fix this other than trial and error and wasting a lot of print stock? I didn't see any ICCs for the Instax on the web...
>>
>>3829118
Why do you have trash inside of your house anon?
>>
>>3829141
They remain useful for holding up greenscreens and shit. Kinda.
>>
>>3829139
Do you print directly from your Fuji camera?

Try making a warm jpeg before sending to print.
>>
>>3829148
>warm
What does "warm" mean in this context?
Is it the colour temperature of the white balance?
Something else?
Please explain. Like pretend I'm an alien from another star system and have literally 0 context on what you're on about here with this warmth thing. I'd like to know what this warmth is.

I have the X100V. I love how portable it is. But there are a few situations where I wish to use a lens like the XF56 with it's magical bookeh and rendering.

I can find a used XF56mm for like 700€. What camera would you recommend if I don't use it as a main one, no need of weather resistance. The X-E3 looks nice but is it worth the 150€ more compared the X-E2? The X-E1 cost only 100€ but seems to be very slow.
>>
>>3821919
Ikr?? Like, if you don't want to look at the result (muh film experience) then just don't look at it lmao.
>>
Probably the best spot here.
I want to do a time lapse of buckwheat sprouting--where it moves the dirt aside and just comes up out of that shit.
How often should I take a photo? Do I have to do the "time compression" math?

Is there just a fuckin' resource for this kind of thing that doesn't involve some assface putting shitty uplilt on his voice for 10 minutes just to reveal he shoots JPEG? I've got an xt1, a bokina manual lens, and a fucking tripod.
>>
>>3830300
Fuck you guys.
I ended up putting it in the one corner of my house that people are unlikely to not fuck with it, and I set it on internal intervalometer mode. It seems to go to sleep in between shots, but do perfectly fine otherwise. It worked for 2 hours the other day without draining the battery "at all" (according to the indicator) before I realized I needed to move it out of the cold-ass window.
Maybe I'll post the fucking webm when I'm done and force you retards to give me tips after I've already fucked up.
I hate that the internet could give people direct access to expert mentorship, but the only way to actually do that is to still fucking use e-mail.

I'm looking at buying an A7II - it seems the prices of new models stopped getting lower, can I expect it to get cheaper or should I just focus on getting a good condition used body?
>>
>>3830961
Get the body, it has already depreciated a fuck ton, you can get one for 700-800 usd easily.
>>
>>3830961
It is a great camera. However if you intend on taking videos with it, you‘ll be utterly disappointed by how bad it‘s performing. Kinda unsharp 1080p without full sensor readout and visible pixel/line binning, which makes the video capabilities of the OG a6000 look like a professional video capturing device.

Other than that it is a wonderful stills Camera!
