The skyline is impresseve, eben more so with the sky. The forefround is weak though and should only be there at its least to just give the viewer something to relate, to see how dramatic the sky and the skyline is compared to the foreground. In particular the white blob building is a distractor.

stop being a pussy and shoot people from the front. the scooter or the man brings nothing to the photo. are we supposed to be like "oh cool he's walking away from the scooter!" ? Honestly the shot would have been better if the man and the scooter weren't even there.

The framing is solid but I don't get anything from this shot. Do you know what you wanted to show and emphazise in particular with this shot? I don't.

>>3753660
I'm not a wildlife guy. I suppose the catch is nothing special and you won't look back at this shot soon. Obviously, he bird is partly hidden and the branches bother.

>>3753663
Great shot as presented here. At a second look there's a bold fencepost that guides of the frame horizontally. Dampening this will probably improve the shot, maye also dampening the highlights on the water.

>>3753664
Good and I don't see where I'd want to improve. Still, some silhouette of people would add to the shot, probably best if they transport that they're travelling, stuck at the airport, bid farewell to s.b., whatch the airport activities

I'd do something along this. I don't like the tree in front. Too regular and dark. Sky is empty, but good backdrop for distant canopies that stand out in this kind of light. And I'd use branches to give it a bit of depth, I'd just played with them a little differently until they're giving the scene a bit of framing.

Somehow yes, somehow eeekk, can't relate to it. Also, I'm not sure whether you're trolling.

>>3753747
That somehow appeals to me. Because of the light reflex and generally more brightness on the left side of the picture I tried to set the headlight with the reflex more centered. Although everything else speaks for this symmetrical framing, as you already have it. Dirt in the foreground is fine with me. The shot is clean!

>>3753821
It is precisely this crop >>3753828
that appeals to me the most. But that's no reason for me to indeed go for this crop. But I also see a point in the fact that what you show is somewhat unspecific

>>3753863
I suppose that you wanted the horses and the steal. The sky distracts from that. Compare over a few days the uncropped version against one without sky. Then decide what you like better. The charm without the sky even with the vignette is a very strictly monotonous photo.

I'm not into cliche today. I find 2 things exciting that you do not show enough of. The tree line to the light, and the structure in the railroad sleepers. As it is at the moment, the tracks have too much emphasis I think.

>>3754227
Incredibly exciting, but probably one of the more boring photos considering you could have had several attempts. I like the framing and the kick up of dust. I don't like that you show so much and yet nothing: You create interest in the story and curiosity about what the guys are aiming at. None is shown in this perspective.

>>3754257
I don't like it. Maybe because there is some sky in the corner, a distracting street above. If I concentrate only on the lower part of the picture, the street, the house, the people and the view do not fit together harmoniously for me, as if everything was fighting against each other. It has one positive aspect for me: The photo's color set is largely tidy.

>>3754298
The white balance setting here is a turn-off for me. I'd probably also play with rotation and cropping, but I have no intuition for it, because the photo doesn't get hold of me either.

>>3754615
I've seen much better photos of funfairs! The brighter surfaces of the carousel arouse my interest. All in all everything seems too dark, too awkward beyond the carousel.

Tint is due to lighting.
Grain is due to it being Fuji Industrial 400 that got nuked in an airport CAT-scanner on the way back from holidays.

I like the rough image composition: shadows from the bottom left corner, sharpness and highlights on the reel and hand. I probably would have placed the center of the shot between the reel and the hand, would have put much less on top of the picture, so that only the two seams of the sleeve are visible. Try cut the frame at the top right there, try if you like it.

>>3754661
Good image composition, everything important on it, not too much, not too little, well arranged, and hey, I see exactly what this is all about - entirely! Personally I probably would like a bit more contrast.

>>3754663
As the picture is now, off into the trash can. The focus and depth of field are not correct. Fish and bait should be in focus!

:D Because I like >>3754742? If photography can be eye-catching, stays in your head, creates distinctive characteristics, polarizes, ...you name it..., then it is successful.
Ask yourself the question, which photo you will remember blindly, maybe even after years. The last one gies directly into this category for me. If Richardson was the trigger, he may be controversal, exploitative, a bad person, whatever - but none of this changes the fact that what he did was moving. Try to refute that instead of trolling ;).

Also, (my) feedback is not an objective fact, I'm someone with my own perspective.

I mean, you make me see the photos in context now, but I wasn't aware of that before. I'm not quite sure yet if they are fully connected. In the visual, for example, not at all. In terms of image content, yes, of course. The first three, however, are much more connected to fishing, I think.

I like this a lot.

From the thumbnail I thought the shoreline was that bit too high and a bit to dark but there's a lot more detail and the gradiant to darkness is a lot better.

I like the shadows and shit in the foreground and the texture left by the retreating sea.

Anyway, that's my Dunning Kruger opinion - for what it's worth.

Not my best shot, but I had fun taking it. I think some elderly Japanese people called the cops on me while I was walking through the graveyard, because the cops drove by me twice in two minutes as I was taking this. They didn't end up bugging me, though.

I tried something odd as an experiment, this "lens" has a negative field of view.
Meaning it renders objects further away larger than objects close up.
Wich can be seen by the battery seeming to be conical while it is actualy cylindrical.
Please ignore the EXIF, it is incorrect in several aspects.
My next project will have a 0° field of view and higher image quality, meaning it renders objects at the same size if they are close up or further away.
However it can neither focus to infinity nor render anything larger than the front element.

I agreed, but it does have that nice contrast between boring and drab and colorful, exciting, yet distant.
Also, I can tell this is an old photo because there used to be only one super skinny tower in midtown, (left side of photo, building with see through floors) although now there's several super skinny towers similar to that. They are residential towers and the area is unofficially known as billionaires row.

Well anon it's a grainy and seemingly low-resolution photo, seems rather candid and wholly interested in putting the subject in frame without any real thought for composition, low contrast, very milky exposure, and for such a close photo it lacks detail and where the fuck is my eye meant to be drawn?

same here btw, same issues. cool photo op but squandered >>3755541
>>
>>3755550
abstract so you get low-hanging-fruit points because it's well exposed

>>3755555
i'm okay with this. nothing's over or under exposed and it looks like a moment that you caught really well. why you caught i'll never know but here it is

Kino or cringe ? I adore lines and a proper flat perspective, kinda had to shoot this from within the room so not much space to zoom, giving not giving this much of a 2D effect, whaddayu think ?

Yeah idunno man, you held the camera pretty evenly I guess? Wtf is this even a photo of? Shouldn't we be seeing something and thinking something and maybe even discovering details the longer we look at it or something? It's flat, the thumbnail was nice and the photo was nothing. SAD!
>>
>>3755567
There are (pretty meaningless) details but I getchu, it's just a pretty jpeg. Will keep in mind next time.
>>
>>3755568
It's not a bad photo either, it's technically quite good, but good lord the shitty photographer's idea of a good photographer's photo is ironic shots of barbed wire (over fences, through glass, etc). You literally cannot win in that arena.
>>
>>3755570
Genuinely asking for knowledge. What would you say makes >>3755526 a good photo (I'm guessing you're the one that complimented it in the reply)
>>
>>3755573
Composition (rule of thirds is a safie but you can break that). What's good about that first photo, to me, was that all three dimensions are really clearly represented in lines/structures, and it just makes it nice to look at. Lines go up, down, back, out, etc. There's also that 2D detailed sky in the back which adds a ton to the interest of the photo. It's subjective, but if you think of photography as the difference between a nice sight/scene/moment vs. something that can actually be looked at and appreciated frozen in time, over and over for years, frankly you just need to pull more interest out of the photo. That barbed wire photo through the doors might have been completely different if you focused on the background and let the barbs be out of focus, idunno, I wasn't there, maybe this really was the best possible photo in that spot
>>
>>3755576
>focused on the background and let the barbs be out of focus

I mean the wires and the wall were like just over a metre apart, I wanted a wider shot and give the bars in the foreground a silhouette-esque effect. But yes, there is a ton of room for improvement.

Cut the corner off on the left, and it's decent.

Great subject and light, not balanced all that well. Check how it would appear if you cropped it so that you would only have waffle on the right side.

>>3763458
That sign on the road is a bit distracting. Crop there, or turn it completely black. Really like how you've some stars and a tree for the background.

Our screens must be drastically different, you shouldn't be able to see the tree or stars - I'm at fault here. How to fix on a Mac?

Good exposure and light.

Looks like it was aiming at having a meaning, missed and hit pretty instead.

I have plenty in the same vein where I look back at a photo 6 months later and wonder why the fuck I took it.

At first I thought you were making that up (how can a lens see less than nothing) but your demonstration kinda makes sense. So does the lens capture light like this? That's wild.

Would a 0° FoV lens work like this? https://youtu.be/tod2qZnKZEQ?t=235
I recommend that whole video btw, it explains perspective and so-called telephoto compression very intuitively.

Just been trying to think of how to get ~0 FOV, like in that video. Without thinking too hard on it, I think if you stack a couple polarising filters on each other, with a 30 degree rotation on one, you might be able to get close to what you want. PS. If you do this, just get the cheap plastic filters because I'm probably wrong.
>>
>>3764201
i can't decide which out of focus bits i enjoy most. perhaps the one that isn't cut off by the cropping.
>>
>>3764369
Update on this idea, it won't work, you'd want some kind of cage or tube to limit the angles of the light, with a mesh on the end or something, but you'd obviously have a load more issues with that, so I'm not sure how you can realistically pull it off.

The lines on the roof aren't parallel with the ground and it feels extremely off-putting. This can be somewhat adjusted in photoshop, but I think the composition of the photo would have been much more excellent if it was shot directly perpendicular to the house and the nativity scene.

there was no cropping. Dude's car was driving and the shot came out blurry, I was pretty pissed but still like the aesthetic a bit, even tho conventionally its not a good photo

Talking to yourself? A pol filter would have given the clouds more contrast you dumb fuck. Right now the sky looks like oatmeal in that pic
>>3764359
It's exciting when a picture kinda turns out good, you had good depth of field, a nice pop on the bird, etc. Next time try adjusting the exposure up, maybe +1 to account for the subject in the shadow (this will blow out the highlights tho), or recover it in post by boosting highlights (recommended if shooting raw). Also with you can off center it by cropping and see what works, or better yet adjusting the focus point to be off centered. The fun part is in the learning so I envy you that you get to figure all this stuff out.

i've seen better skyline shots. if the focus is the skyline itself, you have too much of the buildings below. if the focus is the buildings below, with more interesting lighting on the rooftops, this could be a fantastic shot of the city.

>>3753037
the thumbnail looks great but i don't like it when i open it up. not sure why. i think that's still a good thing though because i'm interested enough to actually look closely at this shot.

>>3753660
cool bird, but unimpressive shot. it's obscured by the leaf, and nothing distinguishes this from 99% of bird shots i've seen. don't be too hard on yourself though, birds are super fucking uncooperative and as someone who's tried shooting birds a lot, you have to be reeeeally patient to get a shot that isn't worth immediately skipping past while editing.

>>3753863
intended subject is not clear, and whatever it is it's too small.

>>3754615
darks are too dark, lights could take slightly more exposure, so as a whole i think this should have been a longer exposure. the comp is pretty iffy in the first place though, i don't know what i'm supposed to be looking at here. there's nothing particularly interesting in the frame.

>>3755162
the entire bottom third of this is fully black and adds nothing to an otherwise wonderful shot. i'm guessing you either didn't crop this at all or did so in a way that maintained the original aspect ratio. this would easily be one of my favorites in the thread without that bottom third.

>>3755353
slightly underexposed and there's not nearly enough light on the cat. too much sky but otherwise comp is okay.

>>3755491
my eyes are not drawn to the kids in this photo, which i assume are supposed to be the subject. the lines don't lead to them, and the light is not on them. if they aren't the subject, then what is?

What don’t you like about it? Lack of a definite subject or maybe the low contrast? I retook this scene at night with Cinestill 800T (original was Portra 400). Definitely gives off a different feel, not sure which I like better.

Started using gradients to give the background more life and I'm trying to get the birds to "pop" more, but I'm very proud of this shot
