With the trend of fewer print publications and more digital screens being used, is it better for someone starting out to learn the techniques of videography than photography?

It just means we can use 90s/y2k shitcams again

Why buy a 36 megapixel mirrorless jankbox when the picture's going to be seen on a display the size of your palm

so that I can jerk off to how much I can zoom on my own imagery

Just because you can have moving pictures on a screen doesn't mean there's no place for still pictures.

Also is Chelseh actually watching CC?
>>
>>3752887
I agree that many of the fundamentals are the same. Exposure (sensitivity, aperture and shutter speed) still applies, and so does framing, but there is also temporal motion and the degree to which it is controlled, and sound to consider.
>>
>>3752639
Wait, is Chelsea really watching my man the toneh dude?
No wonder Tony is so red in his latest videos, he must be jelly as fuck.

At least you keep it real anon

>>3752639
what's your goal and have you checked if it's delusional? Just do what you enjoy, there is no lack of still or moving imagery in the world, it's not like you need to cram yourself unhappily into whatever you think will take off, because protip: if you're not connected, it won't, so just have fun with what you want to do so that if it does go somewhere it's just a bonus
>>
>>3752639
Because there's no still pictures online?
>>
>>3752660
Cameras from that era might be good during the day, but as soon as it gets dark, you will run into issues.
>inb4 EF 50mm f/1.0 and 1/10 handheld at ISO 800
Not only does it cost a lot more than many mirrorless cameras, exposing that long handheld without image stabilisation is next to impossible.
>>3752639
Why not both?
There is a significant overlap between the two.
Essentialy a video is a bunch of stills beeing shot in rapid sucession and pretty much any camera since about 2010 does both.
Sure, there are differences and stuff that is only important for one, but not the other, but there is no reason to not do both.

had me in the first half, not gonna lie

>There is a significant overlap between the two.
That's what I'm saying. The knowledge of exposure and skill of framing apply, except you should also learn how to control temporal motion and get sound. Stills won't go away, but video is easier to make more compelling if the limitation of printed static imagery isn't as looming.

Camera Conspiracies will eventually have a third channel. Vegan / Not Vegan Health, Camera Vlogging and ... I don't know what the third phase of the trifecta will be?

I also like Chelsea, Tony is alright.
>>
>>3754834
Hopefully it will be a porn channel.
His girlfriend is cute, and now that he is not a fucking twig I would love to se ehim railing that cute gf in glorious 4k 120 fps slow mo. That is literally the only reason he bought the A7sIII and the 90 mm macro (for butthole closeups).
>>
>>3752651
white balance changes if you move from different light types, and i don't know if raw video is good enough to smooth it out
>>
>>3752639
I see what you're saying about there being more LCDs in front of people now than there used to be, but photos can be easily shown on those too. With internet bandwidth being some artificially-precious commodity metered out by a fucking shitbag monopoly, maybe just a still is a better method of expressing your art than a blocky compressed video stream anyway, and it challenges you to compose and capture the key moment more.

I was thinking about this the other day. Yes, there are many factors that are the same between shooting photos and recording video, but with video you are limited by the framerate you want to present it in. If you pick 30 fps, then none of the frames can have exposure times longer than 1/30th so you can't do something like the light trail effects of shooting a road at night.
>>
god i fucking hate this guy and idk why. but also i cant look away whenever i click on his videos

Someone new starting out should be starting entirely on the iphone. Throw away any dslr, mirrorless or video camera its out of date now.

Vertical videos shot on iphone are the next big thing and absolutely what you should be learning. You also need to be able to pump out iphone photos daily at a good enough level for brands.

Any other reply for someone on /p below this line is full of shit and just in denial

Is the Komodo a CCD or CMOS? I like the idea of a modern CCD camera, so that each frame can be a nice still without jello effect.

It was too expensive and hard to buy for non-city boys.
Even nowadays a popular japanese book from the mid-70's in rough conditions costs as much as a decent lens. Honestly i would only collect them to scan and dump the PDF out there.

He has said several times it's going to be musical, he has some rad beats but they are for 90's sensibilities.
Lots of house beats and MIDI comedy instruments.
