Lacking motivation to go out and shoot? Want to take photos but don’t know of what? Looking for ways to get better at your craft? Here’s the thread for you!

THIS MONTH’S ASSIGNMENTS - HOME TURF EDITION
>1) Portrait of a person from your hometown. Bonus points if you didn't know them before taking the shot.
>2) Go to instagram and see what's the most photographed landmark near you. Shoot the same thing in an unusual way.
>3) “Home”
>4) Repeating elements. Bonus point if they're not in a straight line.

HOW DOES IT WORK
>4 assignments changing every month (LISTED ABOVE) but categorized in 4 recurring themes
>You can try them in any order you like
>Recurring themes are 1) human subject 2) environment 3) abstract concept 4) compositional element
>1) Posed or candid portraits, or taking pictures with humans being a prominent element, like street photography
>2) Landscapes. If you live in a city urbanscapes are acceptable too, but try to get out of town
>3) Something vague and open to interpretation
>4) Having a certain shape, like triangle or circle, or a compositional element, like repetition, diagonal, thirds. The rest is up to you
>You can post more than 1 photo for each assignment but do try to cover every theme per month
>Try to take new photos instead of posting from your archive
>Have fun!

Deadline is on the 15th of every month, but of course you can post results as soon as you have them and get friendly feedback from lovely anons.

DO IT FAGGOTS!!!

Almost forgot: don't take a picture of your own home for 3), be smart and don't doxx yourselves
>>
Silly question here from someone taking part in the challenge for the 1st time.
How do I find out what the most photographed landmark near me is on Instagram?
>>
>>3449176
Just type #nameofyourcity and see what comes up the most
>>
Debating whether to take a picture in the town I live in, the town I grew up in (~45 minute drive), or the town where I was born (952 miles away) for #1
>>
>>3449188
Ok, did this. Thot's and Dogs. One shot of a nice new bridge, and lots of terrible shots of the river.
I think this plays to my advantage.
>>
>>3449145
>Someone from hometown
I may need to fudge this slightly, I'm on the other side of the planet from my hometown and dont even know anybody from my continent never mind my country or town.
>>
>>3449190
The town you call home.
>>3449197
Same. If you just moved, simply go out of home and take a picture of the first stranger with an interesting face you find. You can talk to them or you can not, depending on how you feel about it.
>>
>>3449192
Otherwise just look on google images, or think of what you would take a picture of if you were a tourist. It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. Recognizable landmark, like Tour Eiffel for Paris or Statue of Liberty for New York. If you live in a small town it’s probably gonna be city hall or a square with the statue of some dude with a raccoon tail hat.
>>
>>3449145
I've been saying I was going to do this for months, but winter is oppressive and I could hardly get out of the house. This is the month.

The statue of this guy could be called a landmark in Lubbock, at least in Texas Tech, managed to catch it in fog which is quite rare

Tfw you made a whole /p/ thread relatively recently taking exactly the sort of picture described and now you have to go find a *new* unique way to shoot your city’s most-photographed object.
>>
>>3450344
Lol. Don’t you have some statue of Davy Crockett lying around in St.Louis? Go for the second most photographed thing

"Home".

Works for the theme on two levels. On one level, because I'm most at home behind the viewfinder when cool shit's happening--this was at a party where I spent a lot of the party being medium antisocial, only coming out to occasionally take pictures and eat snacks. I find that hiding behind a viewfinder helps me a lot to be able to interact with people.

And, since the party was at my house and thrown by my girlfriend, there's the second level that the house in the background there is my actual home. Hopefully "He lives in a brick building in St. Louis" isn't enough info for someone to dox me.

But, OP wants to have a face from your local area, a land mark from your local area, will have your camera's EXIF if you don't make small pains to remove it, and a pic of "Home." That's plenty to dox someone if you have government funding, right down to a rather small amount of people depending on how you paid for your equipment and a few other variables.

It's a good submission. I guess showing the contrast with the more modern setting was your way to untouristify the photo. It's alright.
>>3456297

>>3459534
I don't get it. What's the relation between the landmark and a pair of scissors?
>>3460865
Breaking Bad? I see you took it from a diagonal point of view, but the concrete thingies still look like they're in rows parallel to the photo. Added to the horizon in the middle it gives the photo a static feel, which I personally dislike. The abstract subject goes very well with the experimental exp and dev, you could try to make a series using wide angles or some other gizmo.
>>3462350
It's very messy. It looks like it's layered, like an onion; the branches and some other elements in the photo subdivide it in smoke, man with fire, patch of green, patch of dirt, patch of dirt with chickens. Dunno mate.
>>3462538
Newmex, I always have the impression in your portraits you either include too much or too little. Usually you include too much, like dirty napkins on a table or a row of empty benches. In this case it's too little: I see no indication of where these people are or what they're up to.
>>3462685
Nice catto. You could get lower and show some environment in addition to the cracked pavement. Right now it looks very snapshotty.

>"home"

In the country where I live, a lot of people live in communal housing built between the fifties and the eighties. These communal buildings were meant to have a lifespan of about 20 years, before being replaced by the GOOD communal buildings, which never came to be. Nobody has the money to replace these buildings that have existed for double their intended lifespan or more. The solution is simply to cover the old crumbly façade with some shiny new panels and a coat of paint. They're called "euro repairs". In this case, they didn't even bother to cover the part of the house not facing the street.

If it’s a portrait and i feel the background elements work for the context in say an event I keep em in, if not then I just get closer and frame them out, the consequences of using a 50, 85 and 135 lens. As for the BrBa dam I did want to try a wide angle for it, maybe even one with a high amount of distortion but it made a great print, I wanted to shoot something that is Far less dynamic than my usual styles.

You slaughtered and ate a dog, posting timestamps of you playing with its carcass, then posted a photo with nondescript pills and wrote a long post about your mental illness in another thread. You either are le epic troll or you’ve got serious issues which I want to know nothing about.
Regarding your photo, it’s bad. You said you wanted to include a blanket to give the feeling of warmth, this photo gives the feeling of despair. Turn off your flash and use some soft natural light, make that bed inviting. Also, “home” doesn’t mean it has to be your home, it can be whatever as long as it’s conceptually related. What does the word “home” mean to you, and what could be a visual translation of that concept?
Btw. No offense but clean your bedsheets. Friendly suggestion.
>>3463203
Repeating elements should be visually similar, it’s not enough for them to be “yes, they’re all people”. They should also be placed to give the photo some structure. If you look at ac’s photo for example you’ll see the lights bring your eye around the frame in a zigzag.
Sorry for picking on you.

Whoops, forgot to comment on this one. I’m not sure how to photograph a tidal basin in an unusual way, so I won’t say anything further about this. The guy in the middle kinda bothers me, because he acts like the tip of a scale where there’s people on the right and generally more weight with the pier and the small boats. Maybe there’s a good crop somewhere.
