What is the /out/ consensus on this? I live in Ireland and the government is currently buying up farmland to replant the forests, is the same happening where you are?
>>
>Is that meant to be an Irish Elk behind the cat?

Seems like a cool idea if the country's economy can handle it and doesn't need farming.
>>
>>2586794
>lets decrease the food supply
>what could possibly go wrong
>>
>>2586819
>population naturally aging and shrinking
>less land needed for agriculture and can be converted to wildlife habitat
>"NOOOOOOOOOO WE NEED TO IMPORT MORE THIRD WORLDERS SO WE CAN KEEP OUR DESTRUCTIVE MASS SOYa BEAN AND CORN FARMING!!!!!"
Kys retard
>>
Seems neat though at the cost of more corpo owned farms (usually private sellers in this setup). My area hasn't done it though it has finally put its foot down on commercial development. One logistics center too many and even my greedy ass county has had enough of Amazon.
>>
>>2586819
we should really be encouraging people to return to pre-agricultural ways of living and eating. that is less emphasis on GRAINS AND HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP
>>
Rewilding is just another agenda to take people out of the country by introducing dangerous animals and taking away animals
>>
>>2587376
>Rewilding is just another agenda to take people out of the country
should have just left it at that. it's 100% on point.
in ireland's case though

>buy up farmland, plant some trees
>wait 5 years
>demolish forest
>import even more Nigerians and house them there

desu without taking a hard stance on immigration, nothing any of the western countries will even remotely matter within 1 or 2 generations.
>>
>>2587385
Ireland they're buying up the farmland to take it away from farmers and reduce food supply.
Britain they're reintroducing (or will do) wolves to bring down deer numbers (after they reducing culling)
France they've reintroduced bears that attack people and kill sheep for fun, same in Italy.
What other countries?
>>
>>2586859
you're right in theory, but the problem is the amount of land needed for a family to be quasi-self sufficient is impractical.

>dense walkable cities, save the environment by corralling people into cities
>self suffiency: what you can grow locally you don't have to ship
they're completely at odds, and weirdly enough sometimes championed by the same people simultaneously.

But pre-agriculture is even crazier in terms of land use. you're talking thousands and thousands of acres for even a small community to forage.
>>
>>2587391
holland did something like that as well, didn't they? only it was with the mask off: take land from farmers to house immigrants.
>>

Only heard of the animals dying but that wouldn't surprise me

Yes anon, yes....
>>
>>2587391
based
they should add bears in britain too and add to the big cats that they have there already anyways.
also bison, moose, horses and beaver. reforest as much shitty monoculture as they need to thrive
>>
>>2587435
maybe it would work if the country wasn't overpopulated (with immigrants) and we could own guns easily, but neither of those will ever happen so anything large being introduced will force rural to urban migration
>>
>>2587532
Well in Germany we just kill the wolves that NGOs and gov put here. If we report wolf sightings the government just says it isn't true, so technically the wolf doesn't exist anyways. There is at least one hunter or angry farmer for every acre of woodland.
>>
>>2587560
How common are guns in Germany? Every farmer here probably has a shotgun, nothing on the news about them killing the animals but it does happen
>>
>>2587700
75% of Germans do not own any property or car. In that case they also very likely don't own guns. Maybe half of all families who own property in the countryside have men who own guns. Most of them have hunting licenses and few have sport shooting licenses. So about 1 million people or 2.5%.
>>
>>2587744
>not owning property
>not owning a car
that's like 2 steps away from returning to serfdom
what the fuck happened? =/
>>
>>2587751
It's easy and comfy. Most people struggle to put in a kitchen without help, hey would run into poblems with a house fast. And probably want to move elsewhere in a few years anyway.

They are actually buying the land so they can house niggers dumb ass.

>what happened?
American occupation and integration into the western economic exploitation zone.
>>
>>2586794
>buying up farmland to replant the forests
Most of the farms near me were abandoned back in the 50s and 60s. The land was to steep for mechanized farming and the soil was to shit anyway. It's all grown back into thriving woods on its own.

We have way to fucking many deer. They eat everything they can reach - cedar, flowers, tomatoes. 20 years ago when I bought my house I would hear coyotes most nights. Haven't heard them in a while. We need the coyotes back.

I order 50 to 500 bulk sapling blue spruce for dirt cheap and I've planted swastikas with them all over Idaho, utah and Northern Nevada

They are only 1 foot tall when I buy them but in 10 years it should make for some lulz

You might be able to get paid for doing this.
Look into countryside stewardships, or the equivelant in your country. (this is bongterm)
>>2586819
There is no problem with the food supply because lack of available origin. It is the destinations that are causing any problem.
e.g India would rather let rice rot on the off chance of being able to sell it west than to actually feed their own people. Many such cases, with many different products, globally.
I.e don't throw away food. Don't buy from companies that have a lot of food waste. Don't trust sell-by dates or use-by dates and instead trust your nose and eyes.
Most of all, don't pretend you fucking care if you don't already know this.
>>
>>2586819
It's already mass produced stuff going to the international market, that's not the problem with rewilding. I see it as bizarre because you can just leave it alone. I wonder about the reintroduce trees to Iceland thing but it's probably good.

it's great was on a bike ride today and saw the barren fields and some renaturalized meadows a few minutes later, the amount of diversity you see after a few seasons is crazy.

1 more year and they are going to let beavers flood some areas and create wet forests and wet meadows with sports paths and a swimming lake and a separate birdwatching /fishing lake.

the dutch government basically banned the use of nitrogen fertilizer, or at least such a small amount is allowed that farmers can't profit and have to sell their farms.

>The Dutch government unveiled its goals on Friday, mandating reductions of up to 70% in many places and as high as 95% in others in a bid to protect nature -- or what the cabinet called an "unavoidable transition".

>The nitrogen plan must lead to a 50% reduction in total nitrogen emissions by 2030."

this is part of the UN sustainable development goals, so basically every country will be doing this soon. Canada is hinting at the same reductions.
>>
>>2588966
a thing to note is there was a long transition period and subsidies to get your farm up to speed and compliant. and it worked quite well, just some nutters couldn't deal with it and sprayed the government buildings with manure. because they wanted Holland to stay a top 3 worldwide pig produce with factory farms despite its tiny size

A paleolithic diet would actually be more destructive and land intensive than farming grains and beans. The entire reason that grains and beans are the staple foods of all civilizations is because they maximize the amount of calories per acre.
>>
>>2588966
Based. Once the first world stops producing a surplus of cheap calories for export, the third world will suffer societal-changing famine which could theoretically propel them forward as societies.

no it isn't, the picture is supposed to be in northern england
