It's been a while since I've read ISAIF but from what I remember he specifically pointed out the fact that Industrial Society is what put all these problems into overdrive. A useful solution could be some sort of downscaling into the medieval ages, not overly reliant on technology but still somewhat civilized while most people live off the land. It's all a pipe dream anyways until nuclear war or mass extinction events that wipe out existing tech and the resources to reproduce it

Nope, that's not true. Ted Kaczynski was specifically anti-modern-technology, as in if you destroy the electricity grid for example there's no way that city can use electricity anymore and you effectively eliminated the use of modern technology in there. There's no need for everyone to be on board with your ideas and stop using that which is provided in a highly complex system if that system is destroyed.
