Yeah it was the JT, back then it was sporadically marked, the north 1/4 was pretty well marked, then they pretty much stopped. The south involved some cross country and unmarked travel. I have no idea whether that has improved or not. The trail notes then were kind of useless and topo maps of the country are hard to come by. If I were to go back I wouldn't hike the northern half, I would probably do a Levant Horseshoe, starting in Dana, hike the JT south to Aqaba, then cross over into Israel and hike the southern half of the INT.
All in all it was a fun hike, took me 14 days from the Syrian border to the red sea. But the first half involved too much road walking for me. Resupply and water were easy to manage for me as I was moving between water sources well enough. The food available was pretty limited but if you aren't a picky eater it's fine. I didn't use a stove and only pitched my tarp once.

I'm not a big electronics user while hiking so it was easy enough for me to just plug my phone in while resupplying and let it charge while I got something to eat. I think at the time I had a cats41 or whatever, which had a 5kmha battery. So with minimal usage it easily lasted 4-5 days and the JT never had me away from a plug for more than like 3 days at a time.

I mean, you think they're happy. I really like learning about history, specifically how the average person lived. It's really fun, you know? I have a university with free museums near me. I get to spend hours picking their brains for whatever donation I can give to get in. This museum specifically has a focus on pre-Christian beliefs. I've spent a lot of time there when I was in college, since the museum was across the street from the natural history building, next to a very good NY style pizza shop. I was able to learn so much about how people lived, since that was the interest of a couple of the people who were often there. Turns out they were retired history and religion professors who lived in town. I learned a lot. I'd do my studying in the natural history building and take my breaks in the museum. They had a fuck ton of middle eastern exhibits. I went to the oriental museum in Chicago to do research. It was incredible. I handled some artifacts that predate Judaism. Incredible. I'm so lucky.

Still, I grew up in an abusive household. They held on to catholic traditions about punishment. I spent a lot of time either kicked out of the house or locked in the basement. Irish heritage, so everyone was alcoholic. My mom broke away and learned IT and computers without education, but she still carried the scars of her childhood, so she perpetuated needless abuse.
