I'm considering buying a Filson Mackinaw Cruiser. Any anons ever own one? I'm generally a big fan of wool, and a big fan of stuff that will outlive you. I'm just not sure if it will be warm enough for Canadian winters.
>>
>>2500671
any filson stuff that's still made in seattle is excellent.
any filson stuff that is made overseas isn't worth it and its recommended to find a vintage piece instead.
its workwear not hiking gear. keep that in mind.
>>
pendleton and all the other similar heritage workwear brands are the same story too. made in usa = very worth, made overseas = very nah.
>>
Don’t. Buy a Carhartt. You’ll look like an idiot in that Filson trust me. Take that Filson money and buy a welder
>>
>>2500671

looks like a hipster impersonating a skinhead.

fuck fashion is absolute faggotry.

That's pretty much the original design from the early 20th century. It was designed as a work jacket for foresters and loggers. Also has historically been used by hunters.

>>
some new filson and most vintage filson is still legitimate gear & worth every penny.
>>2500873
millennial fashion faggots co-opted everything heritage/workwear around 2015 and made it a faggy fashion trend.
its half the reason why most filson garments are overseas shite now.
the old stuff they still make in seattle is still good.
>>2500871
you would be right a few years ago.
now carhartt is a full on fashionista faggot brand thanks to zoomers + tiktok. sold out worse.
>>

>Canadian winters.
BigBill's wool stuff is made in Canada and is less than half the price of Filson.
>>
>>2500894
Big bill also uses a blend of recycled wool/polyester and is significantly thinner. Quality-wise they're not really comparable.

It's outdoor gear. It doesn't have to be some technical fabric to be hiking gear.

youre the same retard from the thread in /fa/. you wont give this up will you. you are some sort of filsonshill trying to rep the brand on 4chan in some cringe viral marketing strategy. its not going to work

calm down, it's just a jacket.
>>
>>2501120
>thinks there will be a $350 difference in quality in a fucking jacket
>>
I can see why they call it a cruising coat..
>>
>>2501123
Might be the difference between it falling apart after a few years or outliving you. Might be the difference between feeling soft and comfortable, or prickly and rough. Might be the difference between being wearable or unwearable in -20 degree weather. There is a huge range in capability when it comes to jackets.
>>
>>2501126
Yeah maybe between a $10 jacket and a $150-$200 one. All that money is going into brand shit and where it's made, it's fashion not function. Doubt there's no improvement but it's diminishing returns to the extreme.
>>
>>2501128
There is a very big difference between 65% 17oz recycled wool and 26oz 100% virgin wool.
>>
>>2501129
I guess they advertised you on that.
>>
>>2501131
It's based on personal experience.
>>
>>2501132
I csnt imagine it's $350 better, especially given if you're actually prepping for extreme Temps you probably are going to want to use more modern shit or layers
>>
>>2501134
The point is that if I'm going to drop money on a new jacket, I want something that I will be happy with, that will be wearable in most situations, and that will last a long time. I don't mind paying extra money for that. I'm not trying to build my jacket collection with one more moderate quality jacket, I'm trying to get rid of it and have one jacket that rules them all.
>>
>>2501126
>prickly and rough.
mackinaw wool is rough and itchy and behaves the same as a wool blend its not some miracle fibre just because its 500 dollars. thats what we are trying to tell you but you are so blinded by brand loyalty that you are unwilling to listen. a seamstress in india and a temporary foreign worker from india working in the filson factory in seattle are the same thing
>>
>>2501147
You sound like someone who bought a low quality wool blend jacket and are trying to cope with your bad purchase.
>>
>>2501149
you sound like someone who is hoping for a big commission after roping a bunch of hapless losers on a hentai porn forum to buy your shit garment that you are hawking

>>
>>2501156
yeah lol i dont get why OP is so obsessed with filson and trying to defend it so hard
>>
>>2501157
OP here. I don't really care about the filson brand. Find me another jacket with the same specs but cheaper and I'll buy it. Blends are no beuno. I have a wool blend jacket already, and while it's decent, it leaves much to be desired.
>>
>>2501159
>Blends are no beuno.
you are clinically retarded
>>
>>2501161
Why are you so mad? I'm not going to buy your shitty recycled wool trash just because you call me names on the internet.
>>
>>2501164
ill give you a big bill promo code if you once and for all publicy denounce filson right here right now and state for the record that big bill is theee superior wool brand OF ALL TIME
>>
>>2501166
Sure. The following statement is factual only under the condition that you deliver on your promise, and is otherwise to be rendered null and void.

>Big Bill is THEEE superior wool brand of ALL TIME, and Filson is a has-been company who sells overpriced clothes for hipsters and city slickers.

>>2501159
pendleton is better for wool than filson over-all.
except the collabs filson's done with smaller wool textile makers like their old bison down line.
i say as a nigger who briefly worked at both companies.
>>2501147
there aren't any jeets at the filson factory. you can come take a look if you're ever in seattle.
just avoid the stuff that says its made overseas. its overpriced.
>>2501134
modern jackets will outperform all this shit, but will be lucky to last 10yrs.
>>2501169
>Filson is a has-been company who sells overpriced clothes for hipsters and city slickers.
accurate but vintage and made in usa still exists. just avoid the fashion crap. the owners suck but most of the people there still care.

the retail section of the store has windows connecting the production facility. you don't need to schedule a tour, you can just walk in and see stuff getting made any day of the week.

i dont even own a big bill wool shirt lol, just a pair of their pants (which are also good) but it gives me great pleasure to trigger you filsoncucks
>>
>>2501277
I literally don't own anything by filson and probably won't buy anything of theirs since they seem to have turned into an overpriced fashion brand. I just want to be warm and cozy in the winter and not have to buy a new jacket every 5 years, is that really grounds for such ridicule?

looks like a scam website. they couldn't make a profit selling that thing for <$100. That much virgin wool alone is worth more than that price.

Virgin wool is softer, younger, untainted, and will stay loyal to you forever

OP here, funny you say that because I just ordered one about an hour ago. The 20% off black Friday sale made it kind of a no brainer at $300. Went with the forest green like in pic related. I hope the faggot executives who have turned Filson into a basedboy hipster fashion brand are reading this.
>>
I had a filson but didnt like it for out that much. I much prefer the anorak designs.
If you do go with Filson, prioritize the plaids. The non plaids are made overseas, 24 oz and pill much easier. For the longest time Filson denied their wool cloth had changed but now say their plaids (still made in us) are 26 oz and closer to old fabric.
If you are willing to spend that amount of money id look at weatherwool or stormy kromer for a much better value. You can also find filsons on ebay that are vintage.
But like I said, enjoyed anoraks much more out than most coats. They are cumbersome and when I want the durability I wear something else.
Lester river/empire canvas makes a great anorak but it is warm.
Theres a recent swedish one called miitgaard or something.
If you want value look at
Genuine australian bushwear bush shirt
Sukonka (russian)
Asbell (us)
Parsons anorak (us)
Varusteleka has an anorak
A canadian one called boreal mountain
Some of the nicer ($$$) ones you dont feel like wearing cause its like driving a tesla in the forest.
>>
>>2501976
Anoraks are pretty based and I'll probably buy one one of these days. Currently i want a single jacket that I wear everywhere in cold weather and anoraks are kinda larpy unless you're /out/.

true this, just snatched a westerley off ebay made from og pendleton
although i will say the newer (chinaman made) one i got some years ago is still plenty warm, but it started fallin apart after 4 maybe 5 years, my ma put some elbowpads on it but it's also got some other frayed areas
anyways, look in thrift or ebay to see if you can find the older usa made pendleton wool
>>
>>2500880
Why does it say $15 and then at the bottom says $10?
>>
I got an older one for £60 at an antique fair about 6 years ago, didn't know what it was but I knew it was high quality and looked as good as new. It's great for daily stuff and minor /out/ like just going for a stroll in the woods or hills but too heavy and bulky for actual work or serious /out/. Although it would stand up to abuse I don't want to abuse it because it's too nice. Makes a good daily winter coat. Temps rarely get below -5c here so just a shirt underneath or a wool jumper or light fleece is plenty warm but I've worn it walking around in 8c weather and it's fine because wool never seems to make me that hot in reasonable temps. Great coat but definitely not worth the prices they go for new.

I felt a new made slim cut hipster one and the material was noticeably thinner.
