How can you sleep in a tent in the woods knowing these things are lurking around you?

They eat small animals, almost impossible to get rabies from them and they are very reclusive and will leave you alone.
>>
>>2463798
By knowing I’m bigger and more feral than them

Couple years back, I relocated some juvenile possums from my Mom's basement, where they'd set up camp (probably dropped off their by momma) and were emerging each night through the house onto the first floor, and then out the cat door.

Deployed a Havahart trap baited with cat food, and they'd take the bait almost immediately. Caught all five in the span of maybe an hour. They shit and pissed everywhere in their panic, so I bathed them by hand.

I then put them in the tub by hand and released them by hand, because possums don't bite creatures their own size or larger except in the most unusual circumstances. Their survival strategy is pacifism/playing dead.

Literally the least-scary, most helpful to humans (scavenger, and kills tons of vermin), least-threatening bro out in the wilds. Their faces are gnarled and creepy because it helps their death mimicry look more authentic.

What kind of pussy ass bitch nigga is scared of a opossum? Grow some nuts. God damn.

one of those things got in my chicken coop. i shot it with a bow and arrow. first shot when through its right eye and out the back of its skull. I put 8 more arrows throw the animal and the fucker stayed alive for over 3 hours. I don't ever want to encounter one of these in the wild. They're basically the crackheads of nature.

American marsupials are the more primitive versions that had to contend with Saber tooths and short faced bears.
Australia may be brutal today, but it's tame compared to Ice age north America.

>>
>>2464591
it's a free service?
>>
>>2467130
yeah. there are shrimps that do a similar thing with bigger fish. the big fish opens its mouth and the shrimp gets in, it removes parasites and cleans up, then gets out, big fish got free dental service and the shrimp lives another day on a full stomach (or whatever shrimp have)
>>
there are also videos of scuba divers taking off their mouthpiece when they see the critter. the shrimp just gets to work no matter what kind of fish you are

>>
God Opossums are cute. Fun fact, when an opossum plays dead, it is an involuntary reaction to when it gets scared. Another fun fact is that opossums are the only native marsupial in North America. Pic rel, a shirt I purchased.

>I've owned several and caught dozens, they do bite.
I've caught the ones you see in the pictures I've posted and many more, handle them every time, never been bitten.

I am aware that they technically can bite, but >95% of the time they will just hiss and look put-upon. Unlike, say, most other species of wild animals that not only can bite, but are almost 100% guaranteed to.

Possums are bros

this, if you smell like dog shit 90% of animals will fuck right off

If you insist on going by what's shown in pictures only instead of what was actually said, then you've caught zero until proven otherwise. Great tactic there, genius.

Possums are FRIENDS and are incredibly resistant to getting rabies, more so than any animal in the Americas. They eat so many ticks its insane. They are so passive that that its super hard to get a bite from one. Their only defense is looking scary or looking dead. God, I love them so much, and if I had money I'd start a possum sanctuary.
>>
>>2464098
Just relocate him Asshole, I hope you enjoy your ticks, because there's one less Possum out there keeping their population down.

That doesn't stop urbanization from dropping their population due to them being slow and nocturnal, making them prone to being run over by cars. In addition, urbanization is pushing many populations northward, and possums are not adapted for snow (frostbite takes out their precious little ears and toes)

Why didn't the Southeast US get more than 1 type of possum? And also only one raccoon. And both of them are found in Mexico and Central America so they aren't even unique.
Idk I just feel like there should be more possums and coons in the south
