I hate that this movie was a flop. It's fucking good and one of the few films I really like Kurt Russell in (along with Big Trubble and probably the Tarantino one I haven't seen).

And that famous death scene is grisly as fuck. What an ordeal.

But, I suspect they've already made their money back in streaming, licensing, and cetera

>>2441686

>>2440748
Dersu Uzala 1975 classic era. See it.

Leave no trace 2018 is about a dad and daughter who live in the woods illegally.

The Proposition 2005 is great for desert /out/ Rare australian western.

3 10 to Yuma's remake.

Defiance 2008 is a cool true story about partisans having to do the whole Grab rifle, go innawoods.

Pig 2021 is....insane. I can't even begin to explain this. Nic Cages best in a decade. I was shocked. The out elements are... loose.

Everest 2015 being as hokey as it was is a great performance from Jake. It captures the vibe of the basecamp well too. It's a guilty pleasure for me.

The Road. 2009. Cormac novel adapted near perfectly. I love this movie.

Wild 2014 marginally better than into the wild. At least it's honest unlike that bus dying faggot.

The Grey 2011. Hilarious pulpy neeson shit. Wolves not acting like wolves. All that. Good pop corn take on the usual survival group dynamics.

Ted K 2021. Uncle ted. Arthouse take on tiny house living.

Jeremiah Johnson 1972, Mandatory. You've seen the nod. I know you have.

Ravenous 1999. Movie is like a red dead redemption 2 side quest. Great ost. Aged very well.

In the Earth 2021. British people distrust each other for being what they are. I hate british people so much and the urbanite runs deep in the writing here. It's still got the out in mind though.

Quest for Fire. 1980something. Ron Pearlmen is Grugg. Gruggs want fire. Actually pretty good.

Black Robe 1991/2.
17th century missionary goes native. Really solid actually.

A Year in The Taiga by Herzog is pretty dope. It did the rounds on out a while back.

I watched this blind expecting viking cringe, instead I found one of the best surreal /out/ adventures filmed exclusively in the most dreamlike parts of remote Scotland.

Don't watch trailers (they're all horrible), don't research, don't expect a neatly wrapped story, instead light up a joint and enjoy.
>>
>>2442584
>shut-in who can't afford to go /out/side
$50-200 for 3 season kit
~$30 here and there to replace worn out trail runners
$1-3 on alcohol fuel to cook
cheap food and dumpster diving
~$15 on an overnight bus to the trailhead etc (£12 for a plane ticket from UK to the Grand Routieres for example)

Pick a quiet trail, bushwhack or go in winter if you're allergic to people

If you're healthy, not at a pivotal career point, have no kids/dependents, and would benefit from the experience, why not?

Touching the void was pretty good, the full movie is on youtube and amazon prime. I also went to one of those local outdoor film festivals once and it was nice to see some shorter films even if they were just to advertise for big brands. Most brands just have them on their youtube

This movie was phenomenal and underrated. It's what sparked my interest in thylacines(tasmanian tigers) and other recently extinct animals. As much as I loved it, the whole "oh a big bio-weapons corporation wants the tiger because it has something we can use to develop big bio-weapons" felt like jumping the shark. That reveal was a huge disappointment. I would have rather it been a billionaire psychopath who simply wanted the last one for his private museum or something.

The Clan of the Cave Bear(1986): A Cro-Magnon girl is taken in by a group of Neanderthals after her mother dies

The VVitch was excellent, highly recommended. Watched it as I was going into college and identified more with the kids. Watching it again when I was older, I really felt for the dad. He's not perfect but everything he does is to try and save his family.

One of my favourite films. As a morality play though the father is very much the one responsible for everything, starting with his arrogance to get the family bani-shed from the safety of Plimoth

Not a movie but a documentary: Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog. It's a collection of footage left behind by Timothy Treadwell, this "activist" type who went to live around Grizzlies on summers in Alaska until he and his girlfriend got eaten. Eventually they found his camera, Herzog took a hold of the footage and made something phenomenal out of it. It's a really amazing movie.
It's useless to look for clips because all you will find if you look for "grizzly man" is MY REACTION TO AUDIO OF MAN'S FINAL MOMENTS EATEN BY BEAR!!!!1!! People laughing because the dude was kooky and "deserved it". People are fucking subhuman apes nowadays but whatever. Just watch it.

John Wayne was a terrible actor and worse person
>>
>>2469429
What makes him a bad person in your mind? I can see you not liking him as an actor if you didn't grow up watching that stuff, but I like him, and he's particularly good in that movie. Also I don't believe in our ability to make a western anymore. It simply cannot be done right today.

Nice movie, I also really enjoyed Happy People: A Year in the Taiga, will definitely watch more of Herzog's works.

I'm a little surprised that nature documentaries haven't been mentioned yet, for example Frozen Planet II, which is currently airing, and others narrated by David Attenborough.

Series I would recommend are 1883(2021), which is a Yellowstone prequel and tells the story of a wagon train moving west, and Dead Mountain(2020) that is about the famous Dyatlov Pass incident and its investigation.

It's a little weird indeed, maybe shouldn't have mentioned it, movies and series which have a female lead tend to be more about drama and character development in general, there's a surprising amount of survival series with female protagonist recently: Breathe(2022), Yellowjackets(2021), The Wilds(2020); none of which I can recommend due to that reason.

Other educational series:
Alone(2015) and the 2022 spin-offs Alone: Frozen and Alone: The Skills Challenge; the 2020 spin-off Alone: The Beast isn't worth watching in my opinion because a group of three removes the aspect of being alone.
Dual Survival(2010), especially the early seasons

Meh, typical egocentric Hollywood feminist bullshit. Literally the adventures of a white woman getting over her ex-boyfriend. That being said it did have some nice photography.
