Who dat
>>2384085
Yeah of course, you can pretty much park and hike into any large forest and camp. Dispersed camping isn't as good as it is out west, but there's places north of the Whites Mountains all the way up into Maine to the Canadian border where it's so sparsely populated you can do whatever you want

My family keeps getting harassed by the local cops because they showed up to the board of zoning & adjustment and spoke out against a housing development

one of the selectmen stands to gain a lot from the development

I am not feeling good thoughts towards this state right now. My entire young adult and adult life, about 20 years now, has been suburbia steadily encroaching on nature I grew up on. Things have gotten bad enough with thefts and trespassing and motherfuckers running quads through our fucking fields that we're going to post our land, even though that will likely just inflame relations even more. None of this shit happened 15 or even 10 years ago.

>>

>>
>>2384280
Probably still too close to Concord. You gotta get far enough north that commuting to Concord or Manchester for work isnt an option, therefore keeping the hordes of new people away. I know that sucks cuz you've been there a long time, but things are changing. NH is just too small to absorb all the new people wanting to come here, but they're all going to the areas from the lakes south. Outside of the touristy areas in the Whites, it's still old New Hampshire and should remain that way
>>
>>2384387
I left Virginia and have been in Utah, AZ, and NM area for almost 2 months...gotta say I miss green and water, even though I have a thing for deserts- I do not enjoy living in them. Not many brown people, but they don't leave the cities anyway.

Counties ranked for /out/ness

1. Coös (obvious)
2. Grafton (obvious)
3. Carroll (Ossipee)
4. Belknap (small but has Winnie and Belknap range)
5. Merrimack (Not as much but some decent areas)
6. Cheshire (I mean might as well live in Vermont or western MA but whatever)
7. Hillsborough (Basically central MA)
8. Rockingham (Mostly hell but has the Seacoast and Pawtuckaway)
9. Sullivan (mostly private, otherwise would be higher than Cheshire)
10. Strafford (Basically nothing)

>>
>>2389013
New Hampshire has the free state movement and Vermont has Bernie. They're culturally the opposite of each other.
>>
>>2389013
NH has better hiking. And while yes NH does get a lot of shit for its roads and lack of local government I actually think VT is more run down and rural, like for example NH does have Manchester and Portsmouth both metropolitan areas, while VT has Burlington which is small in size.
>>
The Captain is the hardest summit in NH prove me wrong
>>
>>2389354
I mean any hiker who is in the know in NH knows this, at the very least it’s the “best” hike in NH. Huntington Ravine is obviously more dangerous though.
>>

>It’s another westie thinks about mountains like a white woman does about BBC episode
Prominence is what matters larper
>>
>>2389475
>eastoid brings up prominence time after time
The east isn't even in the top 50 when it comes to prominent peaks in the US. And local topographic relief is a more impressive indicator than technical prominence.
>>
>>2389457
Its not a safe bushwhack thats for sure
>>
>>2389478
What's so unsafe about it?
>>
>>2389477
good try buddy lol...conus prominence mt washington is in the top 20. pretty impressive considering the mountains are below 7k ft.

for people who aren't used to hiking in new england/the north east. the alpine zone starts at a very low altitude for some reason. in the presidential range of new hampshire there are 3 jetstreams that coincide. the open ridgelines, very rugged trail conditions, and the weather often make for extremely dangerous and fun conditions.

there's a reason SAR is extremely active in the white mountains, and numerous people perish in the region every year.

but yes, you're right....haha...the mountains are small and the hikes suck hahaha....yeah....stay away....definitely dont visit.....we dont need more people...seriously dont come to new england....the hikes suck.... h-heh
>>
>>2389521
Mt Washington is literally #59 in maximum technical prominence retard.
>>
>>2389559
Also forgot to mention it doesn't even make top 20 in lower 48. There are at least 23 more prominent peaks in the lower 48 western US. Several dozen more within 100m of it. And every western state has a minimum of 8,000 ft local topographic relief within 10 miles of some peaks.
>>
>>2389510
>Very unlikely you will run into anyone on your >12 mile hike
>Poor water sourcing in summer
>No cell service due to location in calley between the hancocks and carriage
>dried up mountain stream beds have deep crevices that would be impossible to get out of if you fell in
>free climbing necessary to summit
>thickly settled spruce simply shredded whatever you chose to wear
>very easy to get lost

Theres not a lot of dangerous trips in NH, this one was the only trip ive done in NH where i thought i might get in trouble and not be able to get help

1) there's no such thing as "maximum technical prominence" lol
2) if you read my post i said conus, alaska accounts for over 40% of the top 200 mountains on the list

your second post is correct though, i miscounted it at 19, instead of 24.

i still dont understand the point of any of your posts....

>The east isn't even in the top 50 when it comes to prominent peaks in the US

so you're an idiot, the east does have peaks in the top 50 conus.

Currently living in southern NH but want to move up north to get closer to the whites and farther away from massachusetts. Any particular area that's the best? Are North Conway/Lincoln as touristy and bougie as they seem?
>>
>>2389846
if price and job security aren't a concern, the north conway area is amazing. very touristy on holiday weekend during the summer months, and then a few weeks during leaf peeping season

when i mentioned job security i was speaking specifically towards finding a job in your career field.
>>
>>2389846
lincoln is also amazing. has a larger than life atmosphere
>>
>>2381059
Living in the shithole state below you
>>
>>2389846
Lincoln and North Conway are tourist towns, very blue/liberal, full of shitheads from MA, CT, NY, NJ. Why would you want to live there, especially if you're trying to get away from Massachusetts? If you want to live closer to the mountains, central NH is where it's at but people aren't going to name towns you should move to because fuck you we're full.
>>
Mainer here, NH is nice from what I've seen, but what makes it better than Vermont? I have hiked a bit in VT but never in New Hampshire.
>>
>>2389782
mogged
>>
>>2390591
There are pros and cons to both though ultimately NH offers more “extreme” hiking than VT. VT has very few mountains whose summits break tree line while NH has dozens. The only thing I personally like more about VT is the lack of pines, not that I dislike them per se but it makes the fall time in VT that much more beautiful.
>>

When I say “real or imagined wrongdoings” I am not referring to anything I personally did. >>
>>2398926
or the forecast changes abruptly and they can't check it mid hike because there's no service.

im assuming youve never been turned around on a hike before in the whites because of the notoriously bad/unpredictable weather?

happened to me last year while going up madison. ended up getting stuck above treeline for a bit because we couldn't find the trail. visibility was less than 15 feet (this was an early fall hike btw)

there's a book called "where you'll find me" about an extremely experienced, and prepared backpacker/climber dying in that region.

dont be so quick so write off/generalize/trivialize peoples experiences. many times it's due to the unpreparedness of the individual(s), but it's not uncommon for things to happen on trail/above treeline that are out of the hikers control.
