>>2364915I have caught the hell out of some bluegill since, in a few different locations. I just had to change up my tackle a little bit, change up my rigging a little bit, and use a smaller bait. That being said I went out yesterday and only caught little catfish again lol. I'm just not always there at prime time bluegill feeding hour, you gotta spend time on your water and pin down when each species of fish is active. Because yesterday midday, the bluegill were not active
>>2364920also I say bluegill when I mean literally all species of panfish, I'm aware that picture was of a sunfish
>>2364662I do this, and I will also keep the bits when one gets torn up by a fish. I put them on a small crab lure, and it gets a ton of hits. I think the fish see it as a crab enjoying a nice piece of shrimp and they want to eat it.
New wild brown pb the other night. Was hunting this fish for 3 days. Finally got it to commit at dusk.
>>2364988nice one congrats on pb
>>2364988Caught on pic related. Even though the lure was falling apart, it still worked. Bought a new one today. I have figured out that to filter through tiny trout, i use these jerk baits and the big browns go nuts. Everyone else is using flies and spinners and only catching tiny trout.

>>2365251not that anon, what not would you use or would you clip it to a snap swivel? I'm a fucking champion of the double figure eight knot. You can just larks head a lure on, and take it off in like 2 seconds. It's easier than a snap swivel and a very very strong knot. If I was tying direct like anon was, I wouldn't see a problem using a trilene knot. The only knot I cannot stand is a clench knot. Clench knots are fine if you're using it for your sinker on a breakaway rig or something. But if you're tying your lure or hook directly to the main line with a clench knot you're probably a ten year old
>>2365315>>2365251also since re-looking at the picture. It might actually behoove anon to learn how to tie a loop knot like people use for crappy jigs. I use loop knots on my rooster tails and spinners to great effect. I feel like it gives it a lot more action and freedom of movement in the water

Used picrel today. And the trout liked them, but i had some problems. First of all is that they don't float that much, it takes two of them just so a 2# size hook stays off the ground. So i had to keep a ten inch trout bc the hook got stuck and i could not use the big hooks bc they would not float. Also the bait came off the hook when it hit the water too hard wilst trowing, so i put it on the line behind the hook but that did not really help. Am I just using it wrong? Pls help a retard out over here

Can't imagine some food coloring or whatever they add is going to chance the consitency of the dough so much.

>>2365927Both are used everywhere, but low profile baitcasters are used a little more in the US, especially for bass fishing. Even within the US though it's regional.
>>2365982Throwing anything light with it even with UL/BFS meme gear is missery.
>>2365943Inline spinners in creeks are mainly going to catch rocks and branches
>>2366000depends on the creek. plus you can just keep it high in the water column.
>>2366039>keep it high in the water column. You just going to reel in so fast no fish can catch it.
>>2365943I am personally a big fan of spoons. Namely sinking spoons. A small one will catch creek bass all day long, the amount of time after the lure goes in the water until you start to reel it determines the depth that the lure is at. I like to take the treble hooks off of my spoons and put a nice single hook on and let that spoon go all the way to the bottom and then reel it up through the water column as I retrieve it. I've caught all kinds of smallmouth like that.
New gear, I’m going to conquer top water or at least try to.Also not in pic: new hat, now with more holes for the rain to get through because otherwise it would be too hot.
today is my first chance to go fishing in the past week or so, wish me luck.

>>2366043the smallest Mepps don't need to be retrieved fast in order to keep them off the bottom, unless it's the deep running models. size 1 is the biggest I'd go though in shallow water, even some of the 1/8oz ones don't fall that fast. I have been slaying fish with them lately in shallows. worst case scenario, you can even cut two of the treble hook shanks off to make it less snaggy.
>>2365927I saw baitcasters enter european stores in recent years, maybe it's because spinning is becoming more and more popular.
>catch fish>release in shallow water night near the shore>watch it swim awayDoes anyone else do this?
Been fishing my whole life but how do I actually get better at it? Mostly just concerned about hitting the bass and pikeIn wisconsin for reference
>>2366233>catch fish>is a frogposter>scrap off the protective gel coating fish have>throw it back into the water>watch it swim away (current moving dead fish)No. I don't.
>>2365337It wasn't the first cast but I constantly had to deal with tangles, IDK how people manage to make fluorocarbon on spinning reels work. I'm throwing my 8lb J-Braid back on it.
Still caught some bluegill at least though. 2 were bigger than this one but the lighting was shitty when I got them so I didn't take pictures.
>>2366253This simply does not happen. Touching a fish to get the hook out and immediately releasing it is not a death sentence.
>>2366233I did that a few times and a bass swooped in and swallowed the recently-released dink ... RIP poor dink.Since then, I throw the dinks close to cover so they have a chance at living past the unfortunate event of being caught by me. I felt bad for the ones that got eaten.

>>2366505I never keep fish. Ever. I fish for sport, not for food. >>2367130so in other words... just have some of each and do your own testing in your own areas. at the end of the day, whichever works for you works. sometimes "anecdotal" evidence is perfectly reasonable evidence. that's why I always test my own shit out instead of just following guides.
will a texas rig also work for pike?
>>2367130not saying i use silver mepps with black dots in murky water, but if the red gets washed out i don't see the point in using the red-on-copper lures/spinners that are so popular for murky waters here in norway

>>2367137I have been told by boomers several times in a local murky lake that red is king. Their reasoning is that the main prey is crayfish which are either red or green depending on the season. Somestimes colors are selected based on things like that, natural prey.

>>2367141my most productive mepps is a #1 gold with black and green. It's almost as if fish can't stand it so they just attack it on impulse. Countless times it has been hit the second it landed in the water, barely even started to retrieve.
>>2367148no, but it's similar. discontinued model called Mepps See Best. The blade is plain on one side(gold) and on the other side it looks like that, a black decal with colored dots inside of the black.
and it also has the little colored wrap around the treble, no tail.
>>2367141>>2367146gold mepsi with blue dots has always been best imhoat one point you could not get them from anywhere and i have like 8 of them but little afraid to use them often so i don´t lose them
>>2367148you can always make your own decals to put on like that, to test different colors.
>>2367152I only fish my vintage ones when in my boat so I can pull up over snags to free them. either way, I don't think they are that different to models they produce now, certain parts are just aesthetic as long as you choose the model that has the action you want. you can however luck out with the Grab Bag special and receive older discontiued models. apparently they have a big bin of unpackaged discontinued models for that purpose.
>>2367153>you can always make your own decals to put on like that, to test different colors.well now i have three sizes of gold and silver, so if they get scruffed up i could do exactly that. but i don't believe that colors do it as much as contrast and flash, of course different colors do provide different contrast at different conditions..
>>2367164that's why you only put the decal on one side. you still get the flash of the one side, then the colors on the other. mepps did this and still does with many models.
>>2367173yep yep, i just won't bother fucking with them until i have to
>>2367030>>2367031I think that's a creek chubcreek chubs tend to be smaller and have a black spot at the front base of their dorsal fin like the ones in your pics
>>2367136You better put on at least one stinger, two if the size of the lure allows
>>2367207>two stinger on one lurep-poor pike
>i am going fishing tomorrow>realize i have not the right sized hooks for the lures i still have>i am almost out of lures>only have really small (2 and 3 inch) lures left what now?all the stores are already closed.
>>2365488my grandma got me one of these for a birthday when I was younger, I miss her bros.
>>2367234just go and have fun with your small luresor use bait
>>2367239but i don't have the right hooksi can't use a 3/0 offset hook for a 2 inch lure, can i?`
>>2367136I mean, you could probably catch a pike on one, but I doubt there would ever be a situation where you wouldn't be better off using something else
>>2367241>3/0 offset hook for a 2 inch lureSeems a bit extreme anon
>>2367157> I don't think they are that different to models they produce nowvintage ones is pretty good word for it, i have several kinds of these discontinued lures and also their lookalike counterpartsi´m sure the copies work just as good as real ones but there is just some special magic about those old treasured pieces you know
>>2367101There's a lot of room between keeping everything you catch and being 100% c&r.
>>2367241Do you happen to have any other lures you can pull smaller hooks from? If not, that hook size does seem like it would change the action of the lure so much that it would not be worth it. Maybe see if someone will let you have a couple of small hooks, and then use that to catch smaller fish for bait, and switch over to the offset hooks you have to soak the baits?
Why do the crabs let me touch them at night
>packed my bags>6 boxes full of leader material, lures, spinners, weights and hooks>3 boxes only for luresHow do i stop this?
>>2367448I have 2 boxes of lures and a plastic shoppingbag with a random assortment of accessories
>>2367452i just found the solutionzipbagsunfortunatly i don't have anybut this will be my next investment. with them, i can bring 2 or 3 of any kind of lure with me.So i don't need to take the whole pack of every lure with me.

Chicken Scratch SP never fails to produce. I'm finally on the board for bass this year. I wish I brought a tape measure because some of these were absolutely 25"+ and I'd love to take one home. I noticed I got every hookup on the belly travel, for you anons who've tried siwash tail hooks have you noticed which hooks make the catch more often? The plug doesn't swim right without something on the belly hanger.
>>2367824nice catch mate
>>2367448Get another small tackle bag and plan what you want to use for the day, practice tackle minimalism. You don't need to bring everything you own every time you go out.
>>2368067This.I dont even carry a proper tape measure or ruler, just a seamstress soft tape cut down to 60cm.
why are people still fishing with jighead?can't you just use the chebu system?it is cheaper and more flexible
>>2367452My lure bag has 3 plano boxes, one with softbait, one with hardbaits and the third has some assortment of jigheads, weights and other rig accessories, one pocket has small boxes with assortment of hooks, swivels and clips, the other pocket has some small spools of leader lines and tools.Quick and easy access for everything I need on site, not heavy, can carry it by shoulder strap.Other than this I have the big box for the rest of the fishing gear, main lines, floats, feeder basket weights etc... and another medium bag for carrying bait, wafters, pop-ups, boilies and feeding accessories. And this is the smallest I can pack for the entire fishing stuff.
>>2368084Some places rarely sell the texan hooks and the stuff you need for various rigging, and old school jighead is plenty from china. For example Decathlon here sells texan hooks but not the weighs and other riggings needed, some small tackle shops sometimes sell weights but only in odd varieties and even then 2-3 bags at all. Jigheads is a plenty in every weighs.
>be me, fly fishing greenhorn>decide to go bug chasing (lol)>drive to local trout stream to scout>flip rock>no sign of life>proceed to flip 15 more rocks at varying depths >nothing, not a single bug to be found>decide to flip one more rock before packing it in >finally.jpg>find one retarded looking mayfly larva rolling around>eventually leave confused because a week ago there were 5x the bugs under every rock I flippedDoes anyone know why this would be? What would you say is the defining characteristic that differentiates a sport fish from a rough fish?
went pike fishing this morning and got one on third castthis is fun way to fish because one can constantly witness what´s happening under the surface, you can play with the fish for a long time or just see it violently attack the fly straight away
What is topwater fishing and how do I master it?What kind of lures are there and what techniques to use, also what is there to pay attention to?Also is it viable for murky water (river)?
>>2368369For fly fishing, use wet flies

>>2368450when you dress nicely during fishing
>>2368473Nonsense.>>2368475I like where this is going, in fact I'm already there, have my fancy gumby hat and a vest.
>>2368357Is that a big mama fly line?Solid fish too, esox on fly is the goat
>>2368475I add up the cost of their gear when I’m out. You can be sure they’re shit birds when they won’t wave, nod, or even bother to talk shop in passing on the river. I mostly have bottom of the barrel gear (waders and luggage) for the winter months, but the best fishing months here you can wet wade in anything. The river that runs through my town is a fucked up freestone with big boulders and random holes, so I bought a $3 ski pole from goodwill and spray painted it black. It serves its purpose and keeps me safe. All it takes to start by nymphaea by and slinging some wets is a $40 alley express Tenkara rig.
driftless on the fly today lads. it was a good day. all browns. lost a 15incher. dry dropper scud and a black wooly all day.

pike and perch season opens in 12 days, can't wait to be out on the water trying out my handmade baits
>>2368633Pike and Perch are for faggots and niggers, real men terrorize creek chubs for 6 hours a day.
>>2368636>men terrorize creek chubs for 6 hours a day.can confirm
I can't wait until my trucks fixed and I can go fishing again
>>2368632Are you high-sticking the rod? It sounds like you may need to do a quick pause, lower the rod, and set hard upward.
What YouTube channels are best for learning how to fillet/prepare fish?
>>2368716Depends on the fish, but experience itself will always be #1. Look for fish types after you actually catch them. Most videos are short, so take some time and watch a few for the best technique. It's so much easier if you have something tactile to work with. It's all just just theory until it's applied.
>>2368716Don't use a shiity knife, the easiest way to fillet fish is with a very sharp, flexible knife.
>be me>decide to go fishing on my inflatable raft on my favorite lake for the first time in a year>huff my way across the lake against a strong headwind>decide I might as well troll while I row>wind blows my line onto a thorny bush on a tree stump in middle of the goddamn lake>row myself close but the wind blows me away as I try to get line off, tangling it even more>stupidly repeat this a few more times for good measure>now I've really fucked up>spend half an hour to finally break free and feel absolutely humiliated>line is a rat's nest, have to order more braided line before I can fish againGo ahead and laugh. >>2369078Yes they are among the best along with crappie.>>2369093That's what I did, the bass fishing here is fine, but it's just kind of boring and as summer goes on gets really tough. Bluegill are just so fun on ultralight rods, lures are way cheaper, and the eating is better.
