Has anyone here lived the "reservation life"? I saw a post somewhere about some dude getting tired of current society and marrying into tribal culture. What does that even mean? What is living on a reservation like? From everything I've heard it's just a bunch of depressed people on drugs and alcohol, but that post piqued my interest. Reservations are on beautiful land, and if I could help out a group of people by working the land I'd love to. How do reservations work?

Shit holes. Buried my great grandma on the Crow rez in Montana in the early 2000s, and I've been on a few in Az and Ca. Depressed, drug/alcohol addicted shit holes blaming caucazoids for their problems. If you do decide to be a white savior, DO NOT run afoul of the tribal police. Shit works...different on tribal land. Tbh, I wouldn't bother, but you do you.
>>
I'm a member of a First Nation that settled Land Claim rights with Government of Canada and it's not so bad.
I have the right to hunt and fish in our traditional territory whenever I want and can apply for a few acres of settlement land to build a house on.
Our First Nations government is somewhat inefficient and has high turnover of employees but there's no blatant corruption and they've invested a lot of their settlement money into improving the community and developing a successful community farm.
Once I'm done travelling and being a loser I'll probably settle down on band land, build a cabin and start netting fish and blasting moose and ground squirrels.
>>
>>2251480
Same here, in my home state we don’t have to pay for fishing or hunting licenses and on tribal land we don’t need one. You’re one lucky bastard your people have land that you can build on.

Dated a Navajo/Choctaw girl for a while. Live within an hour of a res and half an hour from an Indian college. Hard fucking pass on that shit my dude. Reservations are basically trailer parks on steroids. Anyone that gets out stays out. Those that are left are basically the lowest of the low. Junkies, addicts, criminals, permanent victim entitlement mentality, deluded LARPers pretending they will take back the country from the colonizers, etc. She was an exceptionally smart and hard working female that brought herself up from living in an 8x10 Scamp in the fucking desert and was waging a one woman war against homelessness which is commendable but she still had crazy fucking beliefs. If someone dies in a house you have to demolish it. That’s a big reason they won’t ever invest in solid structures and basically default to trailer parks on top of poverty meth and alcoholism being so rampant. When she was diagnosed with a brain tumor her mom took her to a Sioux shaman that fed her dog brains to cure it. Had run ins with tribal police close to the res as well. They fuck with the whites as much as possible. They will write you a ticket to raise money even if you aren’t on the res and fake the location later. No chance in hell of winning a case in a tribal court. Went “hunting” with a dude she went to school with on tribal lands once. That amounted to twenty drunk injuns driving the woods and herding a fork buck into a corral. Some ballsier teenagers grab it and stab it. One dude got some ribs broke. Whole time they were whooping and hollering and trying to con the white boy into going in and getting gored. Following seasons and bag limits is a joke which is why most reservations are devoid of game. It’s a total shit show.
>>
>>2251863
Game wardens fucking hate injuns. They'll poach off-reservation and out of season, and then have tribal law enforcement forge subsistence hunting tags out of papers issued 30 years ago.
>>
>>2251456
They have blankets for doors.
Every Navajo I've met was an alcoholic. No exceptions.
>>
>>2251456
Every reservation I've seen is a desolate hole, literal deserts in Arizona. I imagine that's why they put them there
>>
>>2251456
Lived on the reservation in SD my whole life on our family ranches. I can't speak highly of any of the reservation towns within any Rez in our state. They all very but its basically from meh to shitty at best. As for becoming apart of the culture. Put simply you won't ever be apart of the culture but you can be apart of the community. Understand that you are going against a massive negative stereotype. Anything else you want to know specifically let me know.
>>
>>2251863
you knew one indigenous person great that means nothing
>>
>>2252181
More than one. A lot more from a fairly wide variety of tribes. Their religions are generally based around hokey pseudo paganesque naturism with a wide array of beliefs that are downright self destructive in a post agrarian society and the only saving grace is most will only adhere to them when convenient and pray to a Christian God in moments of desperation. Substance abuse is rampant. Res politics are shit and corrupt as fuck to the point where you wonder how it is possible in a first world country. There are an enormous amount of virulent anti white racists. Worst of all is just the blatantly self serving nature of res culture. Everyone owes them something even other tribe members. Your family did this. Your tribe did that. It’s not their fault their teeth fell out because of meth use. They are spiritually entitled to get drunk and spotlight deer out of season without a license. The government owes them more gibs but they are adamantly against paying any kind of taxes. Half of them ree against discrimination out of one side of their mouth and then gay bash and drop racial slurs out of the other side. Don’t even get me started on how many of them are actually half injun or less. They seem to be the most over compensating of the lot. Like red Kaepernicks. Like I said the best of them get out of the res and stay the fuck out.
>>
>>2251456
Welp it all depends on the tribe and the land.
Navajo land us sketchy looking idk lots of sand and mesa lands, pinesol drinking alcoholics and meth houses. I might get tired of looking at that all day, everyday. But alot of nav girls are basic whores so that might make up for it.
Note. This is all land stolen from Hopi, so whatever.
I live s. Az on big rez so its kinda nice. 2mil acres but i stay local. Desert, saguaros, cactus and flats mountains. Most rez folk stay inside bc scared of gov hype about covid n shite.
But thats a good thing because you can roam around for days without seeing another person. Lots of wide open landscape with a few villages scattered about. If you've played fallout 3, n vegas, and 4 you've pretty much seen the rez. It's its own brand of comfy. If you are a white guy here you are either a drug addict drunkie so youll have alot of freinds or a amish type who keeps a tight social circle like most people here who don't drink or drug, just like the isolation.

I live sandwiched between 3 reservations and worked on the Navajo Nation for almost a year doing construction in Monument valley (lived there for a few months in the summer to boot). Generally speaking, natives from the res are fucking awful to deal with. They're indolent, resentful, and rude. Natives that live off res, are super cool hardworking people. The res itself is a dangerous depressing place, but parts have some nice vistas. As far as the reservations near me go, the Navajo Nation is probably the nicest one, followed by the Southern Ute with the Ute Mountain res being the worst. Fuck Utes in general.

Most of my family lives around the Ute Rez in north east Utah.
Tribe cops flattened my tires with a spike strip when they were trying to stop a methd up Indian lady fleeing back to the reservation. Pretty gay bc they gave me the run around replacing my tires.
Where they deployed their strip is where she and I passed each other on a two lane road, the fuckers didn’t even send a trooper over to check on us, the dozen of them hopped in their cruisers and went after her.

Not always, but sometimes it felt like i smoked 3 packs of cheap cigs.
I could taste the ash after da four rounds. I figured it was the ashes left on the stones. The water tossed on stones lots of ash inside etc.
I quit going a few many years now. Breathing is good. Now i plan on buildind a sauna type lodge with a old potbelly wood stove i have, or my long box type.
Gonna adobe around it and inlay the volcanic stones around it and feed the firebox from inside.
Its gotta work. If scandis can do it...

Gf is indigenous I from British Colombia, lived off grid and on the rez. She told me a lot of stories and the one where she’s from doesn’t seem that bad but she moved away from it when she got the chance and I don’t think she’d go back. It’s beautiful nature wise but there’s nothing to do if you want more in life. She misses it sometimes because it was small as fuck compared to where we live now.
>>
>>2255308

>>
>>2251456
Had a good friend live on the res in Sioux city. He hated it, people and family on drugs and drunks. Everyone steals. He said they hunt for free but hunting is not really the culture anymore so that's pretty sad. He would rather work and buy a home which he did for awhile in Texas but his drinking caught up to him and he moved to Colorado where I met him and worked together. I believe he's sober now, back in Iowa
>>
>>2257498
There isn't any Rez in SC. Im guessing he meant the Santee or Winnebago Rez which are about 30-50min away. Sioux City in general is awful and is mostly Mexicans and White trash with a lot of other random imports.
>>
>>2251456
I live about 30 miles out from Pine Ridge, which is the rez the media goes to when they want to bitch about how awful Indians are treated. It's literally exactly what you've been told.

Everybody's an addict, they come in to town to steal and then run back to the rez where they can't be caught, and nobody takes care of shit. Nobody who's ever lived there wants to go back, and as a white guy going there your problems are only going to be worse. Half of the population are /pol/-tier racist against whites, and most of the rest aren't much better. If you piss somebody off, especially the "police", you're going to disappear, and nobody's going to come looking for you. Hell, you might just disappear anyways, it happens all the time.

Living on a rez is essentially living in a third-world nation, why you would willingly do that to yourself is beyond me.
>>
>>2257537
As a guy who lives pretty nearby this is a gross over generalization. The problem comes from those who live in the towns on the rez vs. those who live in the country. The ranchers and cowboys are the decent kind of folks you expect in this state but those living in town live up to most of the stereotypes 9/10.
>>
Mostly they're pretty standard low income rural areas, except everything is controlled by one family who decides who gets the unemployment checks and poaching isn't really illegal and cigarettes are cheap.

There are some good bands. Usually the ones on the outskirts of a growing city with a chief that got a good education outside the band. The ones in the middle of nowhere that only still exist because the government flies them supplies so they can stay on their traditional land are universally awful, depressing, drug riddled hellholes of suicide and abuse.

how can I achieve this level of wisdom?

>how it is possible in a first world country
It's not. This is how a lot of Americans live
>>
>>2257617
If anything, I would say I'm being a bit conservative. I would agree that the farmers/ranchers are usually decent people, but that's a tiny portion of the rez. Half the reason Pine Ridge is where it is is because of how little of the land is arable. I can tell you from living in Chadron for several years now that the stereotypes exist for a reason.

I lived here Réserve Neyaashiinigmiing No. 27, ON.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Neyaashiinigmiing+Reserve+No.+27,+ON/

It's literally all hardcore depressed and bored drug addicts on every kind of drug you can think of and they will even drink mouthwash.

I cleaned out the medicine man's house for him of decades of shit, piss, and random accumulated stuff and someone else helped haul it to the dump. Cleaned it all up because I am a very active person and didn't mean hauling couches and stuff up all by myself and I have a passionate for hating hoarding and unclean places because my mother was a hoarder and well the medicine man is too old to clean his place up but his wife who was a hoarder died. Got a whole bunch of fossils and rocks out of all this though I gave away about half of it to another native and a few other things, also cashed in all the beer cans and used that to buy floor paint to help paint the floor in his house.

I observed a lot of rituals but I have a vast knowledge of all things occult and spiritual and don't stick to tradition, he would have liked I am sure someone who would stick to tradition and learn things the way it's been taught generation after generation.

I once in awhile see the medicine man appear on lonely roads via him projecting his astral form to me.

Btw if you are white and want to become native they will call you "wannabe" forever and if you marry in you won't ever be a true native in their eyes and your mongrelized children will be attacked and harassed in good times (as in right now) and probably killed in bad times.

This is an ojibway reserve btw and ojibway still travel to other reserves just to get into fights and kill their traditional enemies they've had forever. It doesn't matter that whites arrived, not all Native Americans are just one interchangeable group, Natives have been hating other natives forever. Natives that go live in the city for many years or born in the city are called "Concrete Indians"
>>
>>2257808
(continued)
"Concrete Indians" are hated by Reserve Indians because of jealousy (they often come with money and build a bigger and nicer house than what everyone else has) and the stupid ideas they get about the world.

Then on top of that reserve Indians hate everyone else for individual reasons due to crime and thieving and molestation and other crap going on for years.

So Indian life is that one meme about the arabs... maybe some anon will remember the meme. In native way it is like every native for himself, then every reserve indian against every non-reserve indian, then every indian against every other tribe of indians, then every indian against wanna be indians (mutts), then every indian against whites.

There is a lot of fighting all the time among Native Americans and it's taken for granted that all the men above a certain age have killed someone and gone to prison for it.

>Our First Nations government is somewhat inefficient and has high turnover of employees but there's no blatant corruption and they've invested a lot of their settlement money into improving the community and developing a successful community farm.

Lol everything is fucked on Neyaashiinigmiing Reserve No. 27, ON we don't even have clean water and the chief always have three big manors while everyone else is poor and the sad thing is you can't really blame the chief for being like that because everyone else ruins their own homes so it would just be a wasted effort to get them better housing. Our water is fucked and our police are completely corrupt and protect the criminals, only way to fix this is to bring in police from off the reserve that are preferably white men, and to maybe also have a competent white man manage the government so we can have clean water at last.
>>
>>2251863
>deluded LARPers pretending they will take back the country from the colonizers

aka AIM, although here they do all carry guns and shoot holes into all of the street signs making the whole reserve look like a warzone, they mostly though kill other Natives and never whites despite their rhetoric, kind of like how Atomwaffen only ever killed its own members.
>>
>>2251863
>Following seasons and bag limits is a joke which is why most reservations are devoid of game. It’s a total shit show.

This reminds me. In Neyaashiinigmiing Reserve No. 27, ON there are no mature trees to be found anywhere because they constantly cut down trees. Also there are huge dogs that just walk around everywhere with no leash and which hunt for you automatically with little training needed because the dogs train the younger dogs to do the same. Also you see a lot of burned down houses, buildings, churches, etc. often.

>Everyone owes them something even other tribe members. Your family did this. Your tribe did that.

So true, basically what I describe here: >>2257812

>It’s not their fault their teeth fell out because of meth use.

This bothers me. Meth addicts blame whoever happens to be in proximity to them for anything that goes wrong real or imagined. You can give them a hug and it's like "are you trying to throw bad medicine at me / do voodoo stop that" when you actually only have pure intention. Sad thing is sometimes they are genuinely psychic and pick up things accurately but the other half of the time it's just pure delusions that get ahold of them and they aren't actually in synch.

>>2255267
Because you use a sweat lodge to remove negative energy and negative entity attachments. So obviously it has to be set up again. It's not just a sauna it's spiritual.

>>2255308
You might mock it but it's legit, every place in the world has its own mental atmosphere, and if you meditate long enough in a place to try and change it then the kind of people drawn into that place will change or the behavior of the people that do continue to persist there will change. Every house, every city, every lake, everything has this mental atmosphere around it and every person has an individual mental atmosphere aka aura too.

You could re-use the same building of course by putting most of the bad energy into water and throwing that out and then burning sage and so on and making an effort to banish all negative entities. The Medicine man does this in his own house since obviously he's not going to get a new house constantly.

But for the sweat lodge it is just easier to set it up in a new place every time. You would understand better if you were in tune with this stuff.
