what are some good /out/ movies to watch? LOTR trilogy and the hobbit trilogy are ones that come to mind
>>
>>2217258
Cliffhanger, Ace Ventura 2, Hatari!, the opening sequence to The Empty Man, Apocalypto
>>
The Thing gives me /out/ vibes and also it's pretty much the perfect movie

Unironically Frozen and Frozen II, there's even a song about being lost in the woods called, 'Lost In The Woods."
>>
>>2217276
Why would anyone hate the hobbit ? its comfy af. it has some cheesy CGI stuff but the movies as a whole are very good.
>>
>>2217288
>very good
I wouldn't go that far, but it was better than a lot of shit that came out in the same time frame.
>>
>>2217289
Imo its flaws were because of the "Disney-like" movies influence on the producers. you can notice that in cheesy lines of dialog, action and shitty CGI, like that legolas jump scene. what i meant is that atleast for tolkien fans it remains a good experience, and of course i wish it could have been as good as LOTR

Hobbit trilogy is extremely mediocre on its own, and absolute shit when compared to LoTR trilogy. I've watched LoTR director's cut at least ten times, but I have never cared to rewatch or even finish The Hobbit trilogy.

Dr. stone was some grade a shonen garbage.

LotR's cool and all until you realise the entire thing was shot within 1 hour of Queenstown.
Like once you recognise The Remarkables in the background you just go "oh they're running across hilltops near Queenstown" and "oh now they're camping near Queenstown" followed by "nice, now they're slaughtering orcs near Queenstown".

it mostly stems from the source material itself being shittier than LOTR than the movies being bad.
Just at face value as movies, the Hobbit movies are great.
But the source material is/was literally written as "Lotr: For Kids!" edition.

>"Dersu Uzala" is epic in form yet intimate in scope. Set in the forests of Eastern Siberia at the turn of the century, it is a portrait of the friendship that grows between an aging hunter and a Russian surveyor. A romantic hymn to nature and the human spirit, it boasts a performance by Maxim Munzuk as the wise and wizened old man of the Taiga.

I think the biggest issue is immense bloat. I think the whole story could have been suitably told WITH all the extra stuff the book mentions but doesn't explain within two films. I think the battle of five armies and Dol Gudur stuff was neat, but the elves, the excessive lake-town shenanigans, and everything with Azog was absolutely pointless and could have been cut.
I think there's actually a fancut floating around somewhere.
>>
>>2232988
those movies were a lot of fun but do make a good point. my mindset is the more the better because they're so well done, but actually the plot feels thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread

To any anons young or old who haven't seen Jaws I envy you to be able to watch that film for the first time. It's not to be polluted by its sequels or pop culture status, it is an absolute definitive film of its own.

I was actually surprised how good it was. Jaws 2 was closer to what I expected from a 1970s shark thriller.

yeah Jaws 2 is pretty good but it's sorta cheap and standard compared to Jaws.

Ever seen Close Encounters? Not quite as /out/ but maaaan for me it's almost the perfect movie

I was watching it with my parents but they hated the random, clashing documentary style dialogue and shut it off half way through.
>>
>>2237035
well sheesh that's only right at the very beginning
>>
>>2237037
It seemed like it was a ways in but u guess it's a long movie. I'll give it another go sometime.

I don't want to get into it because they haven't even started on a sequel and the movie didn't even concert half the book. 10 to 1 they never finish the story. This is Warner Bros after all.

I loved that movie as a kid. And H'wite Fang too

The use of tension is horrendous. Not a single situation or fight in the movie feels dangerous.
