I have my dad's old msr whisperlite and it does well. I wouldn't mind using a fire but I find the stove is nice because it's quick and easy and gives me more consistent heat. Gives me the flexibility of cooking without even having a wood fire too, so it's nice. Really lightweight as well and efficient.

my autistic hobo shelter rate
need to get myself a bigger tarp for when it actually starts raining though, this one is big enough to block flashlights from other retards on the trip but that's about it
>>
>>2228854
I think it's pretty nice, staked tight
I think we have the same tarp, too- I want to get a larger size as well. Would certainly give you more angles to play with and tucking in corners to keep out water on the floor
>>
>>2228855
I took it camping in the rain once, it actually worked out decently but only because I had garbage bags to put over the end of my sleeping bag and feet sticking out into the rain lmao
couple other important things I learned on that trip:
1. if you're gonna go hiking in the rain you should wear waterproof boots
2. trench foot exists
>>
>>2228857
>trench foot
I also get.. like anti-trench foot
where the big toe and pad get dry and cracked skin

>>

Athletes foot? you need something to kill fungus. and sterilize your footwear. pretty common to have happen, not serious unless you don't address it for a few years.
>>
>>2230840
No no, not fungal. Just dry. Maybe I walk on hot brick barefoot too often.. Will clean out my boots tho, with more than just rinsing this time

different person but I like to drive into national park turf about as far as I can get my jeep in and then setup a small hike from there a heavier basecamp, I have a daypack with lighter gear if I hike in from there and then have my basecamp as a failsafe to return to for extra water/food/supplies. This winter it will have 12 gallons of water, double 0F bags and emergency rations for a week or two. I'm not going to haul all that weight on my back.

it was surprisingly warm up on the ridge where I was, it didn't get much below 50 all night even though I was up at about 4k elevation
saw lots of ice in puddles in shaded areas lower down though, and when I was driving home over morgan summit the next night it was pretty nippy up there

ah I meant more sleeping in a van. In my experience it doesn't insulate too well and it's such a big space inside the air keeps getting chilly
Good to hear
Be safe up there and enjoy it again sometime

Well it was early December but no snow. Full moon, one of my best memories from back home in New England

the perspective makes it look like you're lying down in front of a wall and you have a projector displaying an /out/ scene on that wall
