The most expensive new KLR is like $8k. That's not a huge amount of money, even for a motorcycle, and that's brand new. You can get a running used KLR from the 80s or 90s for a couple grand.
If he had posted a 1200 GS or the new Panamerica, he might rustle a few jimmies, but the KLR has always been and remains the working man's offroad motorcycle.

I haven't mentioned electric once you absolute niggers. It's not true that older bikes leave less of a carbon footprint. Especially something from the fucking 70's compared to even something from the 90's or 00's. Fuel injection is infinitely more eco-friendly than anything with a carburetor.

AJP PR7 is the best off the peg adventure bike you can buy at the moment, if you want to do serious offroad and long distances.
Also, the Tenere 700 is a great effort by yamaha, but a little heavy.
Eitherway it's great that manufacturers are beginning to making actual real offroad focused adventure bikes rather than dressed up pigfat commuters.

as for bikes again, as it's always been, the best option is to modify a lightweight trail bike into an adventure bike. The CRF400 is looking to be an excellent candidate for this once more after market parts are available such as fuel tanks.
In the past it was bikes such as the BMW x-challenge and KTM 690r. Bikes which have gone overland over the most challenging routes (BAM road etc)

The problem with bikes like the KLR and DR650 is their weight. They are way too heavy for serious offroad once they are loaded with luggage.

>Honda XR650
The XR650L overheats like a motherfucker. It used to be pretty popular to have a shop weld bigger cooling fins on the cylinder head but I don't know if anyone even does that anymore. Sometimes guys would rig up an oil cooler on them too. I've also seen 2 used ones with the fucking sprocket welded onto the countershaft because the factory one destroys the splines in short order. It's just a piss poor design all around. Fuck Honda for killing the XR600R and keeping that piece of shit around for 20 more years.

Bikes cause 90-95% of their carbon footprint during manufacture. Old bikes were already manufactured, new ones weren't.
The footprint from continuing to use and maintain an old bike is, and will always be, lower than replacing it.

Get some levers with the pivots. Sucks trying to get around anywhere technical without a clutch.
There’s any number of brands out there. Zeta ones are pretty cheap and do the job.
Also only do up the brackets tight enough that they won’t move with use, but if you give it a good thump with the palm of your hand, it can rotate on the bar if you crash.
Also if you’re riding somewhere really hot, this shit in your coolant will help keep the temperature quite a bit lower.
Also some synthetic oils don’t transfer heat as well as mineral oils.

I've never heard of this "CCM" company, but if it's got a Suzuki heart I'm sure it's a good bike.
>>2211177
The good thing about these is, anywhere it can't take you, you can just pick it up and walk it.

thats the weight of a racing enduro bike, idiot.
literally not possible.

160-170kg, yes.
such as the AJP PR7.

That's DR650 weight and it was designed 30 years ago.

You won't like this, but the surron is the greatest outdoor bike there is.

It only weighs 100lbs, has the range of 40 miles, it's electric (quiet), only 2kwh battery (less than 25 cents to charge), it's capable of climbing anything, it's light enough to lift it over debris, it only costs 4k stock.

Realistically you could camp with a 10lb 100w portable solar panel charger and get enough juice to dirtbike 10 miles in a day while keeping the other 50% of the battery charged to service electronics and emergency situations.
>>
>>2212925
>dry weight
I don't know the exact numbers for that bike, but going by similar ones, you can probably add ~2kg oil, ~15 kg fuel, and ~10 kg for the cargorack (what that other anon called a "subframe"). That'd put you somewherein the 150-155kg range.

Also, modern bikes will always be heavier than older ones with similar specs, simply because of the stricter regulations for noise and emissions. Bigger exhausts and catalysators have weight too, and running the engines at minimum emissions mean they're even further from optimum power than they were a decade ago.

I had the IT490 and it was basically a fucking monster to try and hang onto in thick terrain, steep hills and generally trying to kill you in peak power band.
Very fun though, if you didn't think too much.
But if you're in the bush the 175 and 250's are much easier to live with, use a lot less fuel and can get some seriously tough places where there are literally no roads or trails.

For the price of the TW just engineer a larger tank.

Also OP, I have a nc700x and it’s fine for 99%of Japan shit.

For off roading getting the lightest 200-250cc bike with a rock solid motor is all you need. 20bhp is totally fine.
TW really is ideal.

/slow/ bros! doing some Baja motocamping this winter. Large rear rack coming in a few weeks.

Its not that reliable. It has frequent problems. While the seat and ergonomics as perfect the bike is too heavy for its power output.
Here in Northern India Uttrakhand (himqlayas) locals actually use 150cc honda bikes they are much more reliable and can take a beating and are just around 140 kg

They are trash, see above.

so does every fuel injected bike.
also the stuff written above is complete nonsense.

I too used to have a 94 DR650. It was a great bike but such a fucking pain to find parts for. The previous owner had put an aftermarket exhaust and modded the airbox in it, so it sounded like a deafening snarling monster. I was sad to see it go.

Bro OP asked for the best Out Bike.
Himi is pig fat, under powered, fuck all service network, fuck all supplies network and made by a street shitter.
I’ve been in the motorcycle industry for 22 years. I’ve see many ECU’s fried from motorcycle that are even brand new. Do you REALLY believe every big company review especially the absolute spam by pajeet motorcycle reviews?
The best answer to your question is on forums and NOT online magazine review sites with one page of text. These journalists are paid to market shit 90% of the time and you know it, now amplify it with Onions faggot Hipsters and Pajeet nationalists…

The Himi out of the box is hot garbage, soft suspension, average frame, average metallurgy on parts like handlebars, pegs and brake calipers , shitty mt60 tires, spaced out gearing makes it shit in soft sand, vibrates itself apart and needs loctite in critical areas, …I could go on and on.

“ Almost every Himalayan has a manufacturing defect of the magnetic coil, T-stem, gear and clutch issue, Oil Leakage, engine noise among other issues which is frustrating because the owners spend a majority of their time in the service centers.”

Almost 1000 cases on change.org, people who speak english and pissed enough to go online for a solution since the company won’t help these customers.

Why the FUCK would you raise you hand to be a lab rat for this company if you are 10 hours drive from the closest dealer, who will have to do a recall on, taking months?

Stick to Japanese, it’s a no brainer, stop shilling a budget bike.
>>
>>2217455
Oh and to answer the ECU shit, if you want an /out/ approved bike, stick with a carburetor, since OP is probably going to larp an EMP or SHTF type scenario since who doesn’t when they make these threads.
A carb bike is easy as hell to fix but we all know that…right?
Please don’t believe everything you read on the internet written by journalists, especially on new bikes and especially on Pajeet or Chink bikes…
>>
>>2217854
I would love to know what the fuck they did to only get 24 horsepower out of a 400cc engine. I suspect that's the best case scenario too, and a lot of the bikes will fall short of that mark.
>>
>>2213975
they sure do look pretty
>>
>>2205454
>tank is tiny
Do your own research to be sure, but I'm almost certain an XT225 aftermarket tank will fit a T Dub with minor modifications.
