Oh good, another heteronormative thread that has to objectify females sexually to garner interest. I bet if males were objectified how they do to females, you wouldn't like it.

>>2167733Catfishing was crap last night bros. Weather was worse than expected and we got nothing except gobys. Gave up on the spot and we to another to try for Catfish and Carp- although there was lots of fish activity and feeding and a few nibbles, got no fish on. So nothing to show for several hours except a couple tiny invaders. Going to try my Carp/Bullhead pond tomorrow morning if its not raining.

all this rigging and jigging, senko's n dropshots, buzzbaits n swimjigs, texas amd caroline rigs, all the finesse and what have you, are they for bass? from what i see it is americans trying to catch bass, however is their any reason for europeans to apply these techniques? for pike, zander and perch, are these techniques and methods applicable? and if so, to what extend/which ones?
49 lb and 29 lb catfish from today. Do you guys only catch dinks?

How long does a fishing pole usually supposed to last before throwing it in the water ?
>>2169053technically they work for all species, but scaled down versions are specialty tackle and not always easy to find. Most standard LMB tackle you can use for pike fishing. For perch fishing you could use the smaller stuff like a ned rig. A lot of bass rigs rely on stuff like worm hooks and EWG hooks which they don't make in small sizes and you would have to improvise or DIY.
>>2169086he maeks onions face
>>2169097Another thing to mention with bass is that they have big fucking mouths compared to their body size. A 4lb bass and a 30 inch pike will hit the same size lures. The big fucking jigs and worms that a largemouth will just engulf in one gulp won't be handled as well by other species. This was 5.5/6lbs and I caught it while targeting 30+ pound catfish.
It's gonna be HOT all fuggin week
>>2169114No, it isn't.

Probably go to Walmart and get a new fishing rod tomorrow. If you went to Walmart today, what would you get?I might get a cheap multitool while I'm there as well.
considering getting kastking super power braid2 questions>will bright as fuck line affect anything for the fish?>i know kastking is semi-chink but many ppl are happy with the superpower braid, im on a bit of a budget, but would you still advice getting something better?

>>2169169It's a good line. I fished braid of all colors and don't recognize any differences. Even white line, the natural color of PE.
>>2169169Line color is useful to the fisherman to figure out how far you cast and where. Use a transparent leader line like fluorocarbon or mono.
>>2169178>>2169194so ill get it in high vis color then. the thing with leader to me is right now i have wire leaders and im mainly fishing pike. however to make certain rigs like dropshots and texas rigs with bullet weight, i either have to crimp my wires on the spot, or use fluoro leader instead, which is like 16 euro for 30 meters of 0.7 meter. not very cheap. and i dont know if i can just do 1 feet of fluoro leader or need to do more
I'm looking for a replacement wire on ebay and there's a lot of cheap stretch wires, are they reliable?

can you use senko worms for pike?
>>2169284don't see why not, pike will bite just about anything in front of them
>>2169129Depends on what you're targeting but Ugly Stick always had decent quality and fairly cheap ultra light to medium rodsForget trying to get a cheap multitool just get a Leatherman it will last forever so cheaper long term
Hello /out/, I was wondering if you could use thawed bluegill as bass bait or if they have to be alive. Thank you
>>2169129>>2169301You can get a Lews Speed Stick combo with a rod that's not a noodle and a reel that won;t fall apart on you for like 5 bucks more.
>>2169053When talked about on YouTube, they are centered around bass fishing... but most of those methods work for other species too individually. I bass fish and only use a couple of those because people get too autistic with bass fishing, and it has become almost a cringey "this is how you do it on this day" type of approach that I just can't follow.
>>2169320The benefit of the Ugly Sticks is that they don't break when you accidentally lift them into a running ceiling fan. Ask me how I know... but yeah, they're floppy.
>>2169209People suggest a 6ft or so leader... but I run a barrel swivel connection and only use a 6inch leader, and I've caught plenty of fish that way. not ideal, but the fish don't seem to care. I hate tying line to line knots.
>>2169281I catch dinks that size all the time on fake bugs. There is this spot below a dam where the water is only about 2 feet deep for the length of a couple football fields, and all the largemouth down there seem to be this size. I guess they wash down the dam or something, then get eaten by birds before they can get big.
>>2169284they break easily, and aren't cheap. RIP your wallet.
>>2169284I'm not a super big fan of soft plastics for pike if I can get them to bite anything else, because pike shred soft plastics.
>>2169333>it has become almost a cringey "this is how you do it on this day" type of approach that I just can't follow. It's because people get too caught up in the internet and they think that they can learn to fish from watching videos or reading something when in reality you only get a base level of knowledge from listening to others, the vast majority of a good fisherman's knowledge comes from him doing things himself. This applies to pretty much every skill but doubly applies for fishing because there's so much nuance in how fish act based on the waterway, time, season, etc that it's basically impossible to say something like "x lure will catch bass". There are waterways a few miles from each other that have completely different species and the similar species will refuse to bite the other's lurestl;dr you can only get a surface level knowledge base from listening to others, the only way to be good at fishing is to do/learn things yourself
>>2168490How's FishingFloridaWater.com looking fellas? I got 3 days off work starting tonight what videos should I make for shore based fishing.

All through high school and college whoever had a boat had the cutest girls wearing the sluttiest bikinis while pretending their assholes aren't on display. >>2169347pvc cement or whatever you call this in english works very well to repair cuts and tears in pvc soft plastic lures without impairing their flexiness like cyanoacrylate glue do.the shit used to solder pvc pipes together, it's cheap especially compared to the shit like pic related sold in fishing stores wich I suppose is the same thing sold at jewish price
>>2169396It's gotta be a nice boat that's fun to be on. Make sure your gelcoat is in good shape and your upholstery is new, get a radio and a bigger motor than you need, displace enough water to ride smooth without getting tossed around by waves and wakesurfniggers, anhave enough clear deck space with comfortable padding that they can lay flat to tan, and keep some chick drinks in your cooler. If the deck is below the gunwales, they'll probably tan naked if you're not a creep. Then troll for fish instead of casting, so they can tan while you fish multiple rods and then hand her the rod when you hook up so she can reel it in and post fish bikini pictures to her insta. If you're not gross, it's easy to get blowjobs for/during these trips, and it's not hard to score if the trip goes well. I put two random canal slags (sluts who hang out in trafficked channels to bum boat rides from men alone in nice boats) on some big-ass northerns (~40 inch fish) like 5 years ago on Lake Minnetonka and got a threesome out of it, and I'd never met either of them before and haven't met either since.
>>2169475Yeah, but it's not unusual to not get the whole bait back and also who's got time for that bullshit when you can probably catch the same fish with jointed crankbaits?
>>2168490What's up fishfaggots, can one of you gay nerds give me some surf fishing advice? I'm going camping near Astoria, OR in September and I want to bonk some surf perch from the beach. I don't think my trout gear is up to the task so I'm looking at cheap-ass surf spin combos. Minimum 8' 2pc 2oz lure weight. What should I buy? They have a Daiwa DWB-B at big 5 for like 50 bucks. Should I just get that or is there something better?
>>2169480sure, not going to argue I was just giving a tip. Thanks to this stuff my hollow body frog is still floating like it's new even after being chewed by pikes
>>2169523ok that looks kinda neat but no shipping available and no store within 250 miles. Assuming I can find it somewhere else, what should I get for a reel?
>>2169527a penn pursuit 3 in 4000 size or larger. that way you have a nice reel for not much more than the daiwa combo.
>>2169530>penn pursuit 3The reel alone is $60 and I might not use it again for 5 years. I think I might just go for the Daiwa combo and if I end up surf fishing more often maybe get something better. Are there any semi-ok reels in the $30 range?
>>2169532I just figured for around $20 more, you actually have a reel with proven record instea of the bottom barrel freebie they give away with that daiwa combo. I've never used that daiwa combo, but the reel looks like something they just throw in to call it a combo, who knows if it lasts. I'd rather spend $20 and buy once something I can pull out and use later down the road if I want to. Everyone knows that when it comes to cheap combos, the reel is what is shit/breaks first, adn the rods are usually fine.
>>2169536meant to add... specifically since you are using it for saltwater it's even more likely for the reel to die.
>>2169536>>2169538Yeah, you're probably right. I was thinking I could get away with something super cheap since I only plan to use it for a couple days. I guess if I get something decent I could use it for steelhead too. I mostly fish trout in high mountain lakes so all my quality gear is light.
>>2169542buy that daiwa combo and test it then. report back. worst case scenario the reel dies after a few outings and you have to buy another reel anyways. maybe not though. cheaper reels tend to be fine with casual freshwater fishing, but saltwater usually kills them pretty quick.
>>2169281I personally don't keep them that large because I've heard that the meat isn't that great and the amount of heavy metals. When I do keep fish, it's generally above the limit and up to 10-14 lbs. We released both of those fish. The 49 lb one took quite a bit to revive him, but he eventually swam off.

I've heard G.Loomis... but no clue...I feel so overfuckingwhelmed with this... ALSO I wouldn't mind a SPIN rod for the same species/areas.THOUGHTS?? Thanks in advance, brothers!!
>>2169567What's your budget? because I can recommend sub $200 rods or $1000+ rods.

alright lads, I got me a GX2 ugly stik and have been having fun catching bass on the lake but now I'm looking to go after the fuckhuge invasive pike in the river by my house, what am i in for? i can google gear but what is the /out/ rundown
>>2169577Morning time. Like 5-7am
>>2169577Go in the early morning (key) and fish in shallow cover like lilypads, docks, or shallow weeds. Make sure to mix a long pause into your retrieve, sometimes they will just sit and stare for 15+ seconds before they hit.
>>2169567once you get to a certain pricepoint, you're paying to showoff, not for quality. a $100 spinning rod is high end. $175+ spinning rods are for trust-fund zoomers who only fish on expensive bass boats. there are really good $50-75 spinning rods.
>CHEERS!>>2169573Hey anon, deff over 200, and maybe floating around the 1000 range... I'm in Canada, so if you're US, that is fine, I'll adjust ;)>>2169588Oh, ok that makes sense. I'm not trying to show off, just grew up with cheap spinners that always tangled. Dad used to pull trout from the water via fly while I cursed to myself, creating bigger knots... I wont be fishing for bass (they don't live in Newfoundland), just trout. Maybe doooown the road I'll pick up fishing for Char or Salmon. But for now, trout is king on my fishing preference.
>>2169346wow, is that goleta?
>>2169601>>2169567I'd like to somewhat add to>>2169588Basically after $300 a fly rod doesnt get much better you're just getting a status symbol. The fish dont care how much your rod costs. If I had a grand for just rods/reels/lines burning a hole in my pocket and I was looking past entry level I'd get something like an echo river glass in 2 or 3 weight, and something in the way of a 9 foot 6 weight with a medium fast action. I think an echo ion xl would serve the purpose well. Add a redington behemoth to the 6 weight and an orvis battenkill to the 2 or 3 weight, and an airflo line to both. The 6 weight you'll want the general purpose line, and for the glass rod you'll probably be happiest with a double taper line. I like to cut double tapers in half for small stuff because that gives me two 50 foot lines and a 50 foot cast on a 2 or 3 weight is tricky to say the least and in water small enough to justify it you're seldom casting over 20 feet. Ypu want a floating line for both, and you might pick up a super fast sink poly leader for the 6 weight. If you're going to be targeting fish in the sub-14-inch range, you'll want the 2 or 3 weight, and if you expect to catch 10 inch fish and up the 6 weight will be great. The reason I reccomend a 6 weight is it will give better access to streamer fishing, and more back bone if you hook in to a trophy brown trout on that streamer. The extra weight in the line also makes casting nymph rigs with bead heads and split shot easier. >pic semi related
>>2169547Alright frendo thanks for the consultation. I ordered the Daiwa FT in 10' and a Penn Fierce III 4000 with a $20 coupon from Dick's. Expecting moderate surf I'm thinking 30# braid with maybe a 20# mono leader and a selection of 2-4 oz pyramid weights? Ever try the Gulp sand worms or sand fleas for perch?
First fish on skids bonus jig. I caught maybe 20 dink smallmouth and several rockbass and bluegill. Worked great!

>>2169683Thanks skid! Can i see some steel head jig flys? You ever tie fly spinners like Joe's flies? I wonder how a 1/32oz royal coachman patterned woolly bugger would do
>>2169684Rockbass loved the hookless one.
>>2169053I use some of that plus dropshot (usually paddle tail swim bates or berkly GULP minnows/leeches) for walleye sometimes. My favorite walleye hole is full of huge jagged boulders. If I used regular jig heads I would break off every other cast. I've also caught crappie and perch on carolina rigs.
Does anyone have recommendations for polarized fishing sunglasses?I have been using a cheaper brand but I’m going to get prescription pair so I figured that I’d look for something nicer. Are pricy brands like costa really appreciably better for fishing applications?

Another trick you can do is taking a butter knife and a blow torch, GENTLY HEATING IT UP, and slowly inserting it into cuts and and it'll melt back together. >>2170068That fish is around the same size that the guy you are replying to caught. She's a small girl, she doesn't look to be struggling to hold it due to her arm positioning, and the fish doesn't look any bigger anyways.
>>2170137>I dont maintain my knives: the postEven if it did rust go at it with some 0000 steel wool and you'll be fine. Patina spots just say you use your knife, rust spots show you neglect them.
>>2170272What's gay about what I said? Are you the type of "fisherman" that kills everything they catch, leaves trash all over the place, and shits up an ecosystem? I've watched basketball americans catch dozens of bluegills in a row and cut them all up for bait, just to catch two catfish. That's called retardation. Unless you're eating the bigger fish you catch, why kill for that catch? You might think, "what's one bluegill" but hundreds of thousands of other people think like that too... now do the math. Contrary to what you think, you can destroy a sunfish population in a smaller body of water with thinking like yours. There is a once popular reservoir near me of decent size, and you barely even get bluegill out of it nowadays. You have to travel to find them when they used to be around the entire edge of the water, where you could pluck them out with every cast within seconds. This is because it got overfished after a record cat was caught on it with, you guessed it, cut bait.

>>2170317I guess that's fair but if you purchase something you should at least look in to basic maintainance. The only person allowed to tough my carbon steel knives is my brother because no one else will listen when I tell them carbon steel needs special treatment. My fillet knife is covered in patina spots from my dad using it on tomatoes and leaving it out with tomato juice on it or after throwing it in the sink.

If you want a Shimano Curado 200K, go and buy them right now on the used market, all the consoomer fishermen are selling theirs so they can get the new Curado 150 MGL that just got announced at ICAST.
>>2169601Honestly newfie anon if the brook trout get as big as Ontario/Northern Quebec strains do then I would go for a 7wt or 8wt, 9ft rod. This will let you target char, salmon, lake trout in the spring, northern pike in addition to trout. Sage Sonic or Maverick are really good all purpose rods same with the less expensive TFO Axiom 2 and 2x. If you want a rod only for brookies and browns and they don't get very big then go for a 6wt of the models I recommended. This will let you fish dries, nymphs and smaller streamers effectively.

>>2170545Tidepool sculpin? I have the old broken tip of a trout rod with a few feet of 2lb mono, some splitshot and a size 14 hook that I use to fish the tidepools. I just bust open a mussel for bait and use tweezers to bait the hook.
>>2170577Nice! Always fun to catch.
>>2170571That one is a saddleback sculpin, but I did catch a tidepool sculpin in the same pool.

>Have penn spinmaster 10500 for drone fishing>want another reel>want to be able to catch bait in the surf like mullet and whatever. >also sort of want the reel to be a backup for the bigger one >learn about live lining reels>spinmaster has a model like thisIs it worth it to get this feature or is it one more thing to break. Seems like it would be super useful
>>2170672they totally are! I've got a few methods in mind this year for them and want to see which one works best. Next time I am float fishing, and also want to try bombarda with flies, then jigging with metals and assist hooks... and if I have time I'll try using classic minnow hard lures. See which works best
>>2170712i fell for the bait runner on a spinning rod meme 3 times before i learned my lesson, it's just one more thing to break, and it doesn't make near enough noise to do what its supposed to do. that said, bait runners on conventional and memecasting reels are very much not a meme. I'm not sure how much smaller you're actually wanting to go, but I have a Daiwa sealine x40sha with a couple hundred yards of #30 mono and can cast 2 ounces on it with no issues with the right rod. i'd probably drop down to the x30sha if i was gonna buy it again. if you're planning to do mostly lures, however. get a spinning reel with no bait runner.
>>2170780>fell for the memeso you are saying this feature isnt so great when its built into spinner reels? Also i dont have any experience with other types of reels like the one you posted. You can cast it just like any other thing right? is it salt water proof?
>>2170780I love the little Okuma CBF1000s and CBF500s for ice fishing. I don't relay have experience with larger ones.
>>2170787>so you are saying this feature isnt so great when its built into spinner reels?exactly. as for casting and conventional reels, they actually out cast spinning reels (look at the surf casting competitions, they all use conventional reels) they do have a bit of nuance though. first, when the bait hits the water you have to stop the spool spinning with your thumb. if you do it wrong, you could backlash, or worse, burn your thumb. then if you have a leader, you have to make sure that knot is off to the side of the spool, I've seen people tear their thumbs open on a leader knot doing a hard cast with the knot in the center of the spool. conventional reels suck for lures if you're not trolling though, so if you mostly intend to use bait they're fine, but if you're trying to run lures doing the level wind and trying to impart action can be tricky. not impossible, but tricky.
>>2170807I just have so much experience with spinners i figure it might be a paint to learn to ride a bike againI was originally going to get a avet 50w for drone fishing but the salesman got us a deal for the spinfisher 10500 with 50lb braid for 200 I just want a reel that will last forever and i can use as a backup for the spinfisher and also use for traditional fishing with lures and other stuffI was thinking the spinfisher 6000 would be good but I thought the live line thing could be cool with the 8000
>>2170828aye i see where you're coming from. if you fish mostly lures a bait runner wont really do much. you can also simulate a bait runner, just loosen the drag on the spinning reel until it pulls at the pressure you want then tighten it back up when you get a bite.
>>2170841A bait runner seems more convenient though. Even with circle hooks, I've gut hooked a few catfish fumbling around with the drag trying to tighten it down enough to drive the hook. I'd imagine just flipping a fucking switch at the back of the reel would be easier.
>>2170845It sounds like what you are actually looking for is a bait feeder reel, and not a bait runner. Okuma makes a few bait feeders. Look into the avenger. I have several, for as small as panfish all the way up to several hundred pound fish. They're quite nice. They're basically spinning rods with a little switch that has its own drag setting, and allows you to keep a bait or lure tight, but allows bigger fish to run freely with aforementioned bait or lure. I prefer spinning rods as well, but mainly because of how simple they are to keep running smoothly, especially while out on the water or in a pinch.
>>2170855>Spinning REELS*Not rods dammit, reels.
>>2170855That sounds like the live line feature of the spinfisher? Is it not the same?
>>2170069>will flooding affect my fishing.Yes. More water, more cover, same amount of fish. High water generally means shitty fishing. On the bright side, high water normally means much more successful spawns for future years but that might not matter much right now since everything is done spawning.
I'm going to keep reading/watching youtube videos on how to start but how can I most easily avoid being retarded in starting fishing on Oahu? I'd rather start with you guys telling me I'm retarded than angry Hawaiians. I went spearfishing with a couple friends and it was incredible but they moved away. Gf wants to start fishing here but I only fished once on a private lake. She asked sporting goods store that is friendly and helpful on other stuff about how to start and they said "go to the beach?"There are a couple friendly, helpful fishing stores that will explain stuff and not fuck me over too much here but thought I'd ask basics here. I know there are sports for shorefishing but I don't know the first thing about fishing. As you might know some people are really territorial here so I'm trying to avoid pissing people off. Thanks
>>2170927>>2170927Dang forgot how retarded I was. Not expecting full explanation of what to do but content recommendations to read/watch. Don't know anyone into fishing here or I'd just ask them to take me. I know I can go to friendly fishing shop that really take the time to explain but don't have ton of money to sink into hobby I don't know I'll stick with. Or is it intuitive enough to just get cheap used gear on craigslist and try it out? Stuff like surfing here you can just try and and figure it out eventually and avoid spots where you know people get territorial. But not sure if like surfing there's always limited space so you have to hope others are patient. I'm caucasoid, gf can pass as local, good for her but I don't want to piss locals off. Not sure how fishing is. There are some polluted canals with a ton of fish so is that a good spot to learn? Allegedly they sell the messed up canal fish in Chinatown

>>2170946Better luck next time!
Finally going to incorporate fishing into my /out/ experience, going to camp by a river which apparently has a very healthy trout population. I've done a load of reading and assembled a kit. Still have to get some spinner lures which I'm going to get from a shop on the way to the camp site (I'll just ask them what they like, get a handful of different options.)Here's what I've got:7 foot ultralight rod rated for 6 - 12 poundsLightweight reel with a maximum drag of 8kg10lb braided line for the main line, along with some 10lb fluorocarbon line for the leaderA handful of different spinner baits once I go to the store as mentioned earlierFilleting knifeAm I missing anything? Super excited to catch my first trout. Thanks guys
>>2170955Seems like a decent kit man how fast is the river flowing? Have you considered adding a bobber and some spare hooks? Cheap, efficient and deadly for troutHere I think trouts mostly caught on spinners and tiny jigheads with curlytail grubs, but thats in the ocean Good luck dude, I'm rooting for ya, take some pics and report back even if you don't catch anything
>>2170955Seems solid. Could consider putting together some sort of fly rig for your rod as a back up for parts that are difficult to fish with spinners but I wouldn't bother with it if you don't feel like it. Spinners usually do well. What sort of trout does the river hold?
>>2170955Spinnerblaits or inline spinners?
>>2170957Thanks man nice to know I'm heading in the right direction. I've got my dad's old tackle box which has hooks and bobbers aplenty. Do you mean adding some extra hooks dispersed along the leader with a bobbers to compensate for the extra weight of the hooks? I could definitely practice rigging a line up like that before I head out, if I've understood you correctly. Might have totally misinterpreted lol. Thanks mate, I'll take some pics while I'm out, I'm going for a month so won't be an update for a while (No tech while I'm out there besides photos) but I will eventually.>>2170958It's not stocked artificially but I've heard there's lots of brown trout, not sure how to be more specific. I think I'll just stick with the spinners as I'm a beginner and don't want to overwhelm myself. Out of interest which areas are challenging to fish with spinners? I'm guessing extra rocky areas where there's lots of potential for snags? Thanks for the helpful responses guys
>>2170964>if I've understood you correctly. Might have totally misinterpreted lolSorry man, English is not my native language What I mean is, that what it seems you are aiming for right now is cast and retrieve, but a more "set it and forget it" option is always nice to have while you are doing other camp chores.Grasshoppers are excelent bait
>>2170964Rocky, turbulent and fastmoving stretches can be a bit tricky. Shore conditions might impede your ability to swing freely and aim for the good spots (might not be an issue in your area). fishing a fly in the drift circumvents most of these issues. That said you can fish pretty much everything with spinners as well, just needs a bit more of trial and error.
>>2170780>>2170787For what it's worth, I have an old OG Slammer 760 with a live liner that's an absolute tank. Never had a single issue while working it like a rented mule.
what should i look for when buying a fishing net except for it should be rubber? i mainly do freshwater bank fishing, but i might start kayak fishing this year, and i ordered one of those magnetic attachments so i can latch it on my backpack. also, when you rinse rubber does it retain fishy smell? i dont want to put a wet/smelly fish net in my car so are there sleeves for them as well? i mainly fish pike but not really in massive lakes so dont think they should be THAT big
>>2170267>>2170284I love when retards pretend to talk about fisheries management
>>2170955get some salmon eggs trout love them and sometimes you need something real when they arn't hitting lures. maggots on a jighead work well too
>Only hooked one trout yesterday>Wild spawned brown maybe 6" long>Barbless hook came out in the net>Trout slipped through the holes in the net>4 guys in whitewater kayaks and helmets came down the creek>Had the gall to ask me how the fishing was as they splashed past>Lost my last sinking minnow in a treeWho the fuck even kayaks a creek that's less than a foot deep in most places, absolute cunts. Water was ridiculously high, it was really only possible to fish spoons and sinking minnows in the current, it was nice to get out though. Ever seen someone kayaking the quinapoxet above where the creek connects, massfren? Fucking absurd.
>>2170955You probably want to watch some videos on how to read water to find trout holding areas. This is a decent intro and applies to spin fishing just as much as fly fishing.https://howtoflyfish.orvis.com/video-lessons/the-basics-of-fly-fishing/chapter-eight-reading-water
>>2170867as best as ive been able to figure out a bait runner. live liner, and bait feeder are colloquialisms for the same thing. it might be worth buying two reels, one spinning reel for lures and a conventional reel for soaking bait.>>2170936>>2170927experience is the best teacher. go out with $150, talk to your local shop, spend $100 of that on a rod/reel/line, and the other $50 on tackle and bait. you can read/watch/look at whatever you want as much as you want before your first fishing trip, you're still going to be a googan for your first season at least>>2170955sounds like you're set. get some smallish hooks to bait with worms and small bobbers to go with it, if spinners aren't working dead drift a worm that you dug out from under a log near the bottom and set the hook on anything suspicious

Trying to get some basic ass kit together because my gf's sister decided she likes to fish and wants to go out with the three of us. How much am I going to fuck up if I order this? She already has some small amount of gear and rods. Suggestions and/or substitutions would be great. We're mainly doing lake fishing, and I think we have bluegill, crappie, and the like here (NC).

>>2171480Will do!! There is well talked about shop here in Nfld I will check out. (Not a canadian tire where I'll get some normie not knowing shit). Newfies know their stuff (which means I better fuhkin learn!!!).Thanks again Skid.
>>2171480Not a fly fisherman so pardon the question. What do you even catch on a hook that small?
>>2171505This. TooMuchShit.jpeg>>2171490For pliers, buy some forcep style ones since they fit in the smaller mouths of panfish too. Eagle Claw makes some, and they sell others at Dicks and Bass Pro/Cabelas. For lures, I suggest any of the "Uncle Buck's Panfish" series Bass Pro sells. Just type that in the search bar. Also, Johnson beetle spin sold at walmart. Then, some Gamakatsu Crappie hooks in size 8. all of the things I listed are even cheaper than the stuff you listed, and the stuff in those kits you see have a lot of stuff you will NEVER use.
>>2171528I figured I was overdoing it. I've got some homework to do. Thanks.
>>2171528Forceps are nice for panfish when they swallow the hook, but I prefer a set of needle nose pliers like pic related for most purposes. The cutter is really handy for line, they have a little flat section in front of the cutter that works great for squishing down barbs which is nice for panfish fishing, and the more robust construction helps for using splitshots and for larger fish. You can get one for like 4-10 bucks at any hardware store or Walmart. No reason not have one of each.>>2171490Alongside what the other guy said, try marabou jigs like beetle bou jigs. 1/32 oz and 1/16 oz. In my experience they are extremely effective for most species, just a little light for a lot of fishing. I have even caught loads of lake trout on them by just throwing some split shots over one and jigging in 60 FoW. You should also have bass there which are always fun to target. Weedless jigs, texas rigs, and topwaters are good places to start for those.
>>2171519Trout. In some tailraces, midges are the primary forage for trout so you have to size down to flies even smaller than that, and tailrace trout are normally the largest trout around. People fishing with shit smaller than a grain of rice for 10lb+ trout.
Bros I think my kid might be bad luck. Third trip in the boat and another skunker.
>>2171575He was probably broadcasting sleepiness to the fish. What were you after?
>>2171490If you want to pay up from the beginning and get a complete all-species basic bitch tackle box of proven fish catchers that are easy to use and not knock-off Chinese shit, I think it'd look something like this. The only other things that aren't on here that I might add would be a tub of nightcrawlers or a jar of Powerbait Honey Worms if you don't want to deal with live bait, and an 1/8oz Johnson Beetle Spin that you can get at Walmart for 99 cents.

>>2168490Anyone have any advice on a good surf rod/reel setup? I'm in NE Florida. I'd like to see if I can catch some bull reds in the surf. Going to throw some cut mullet way out on a 3 oz egg sinker and a circle hook. Was thinking about getting an 8 ft Ugly Stik Bigwater and a Penn Fierce III 6000 and some 30 lb braid. Thoughts? I know I'll probably get some whiting, sharks, stingrays, but I really want to target reds. Never caught one at the beach before. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

>>2170068What's wrong with the colouring of the fish? Looks old in comparison
>>2171715Matt, you should know how to surf fish by now.But since you're asking rather politely; you should get an 11 foot rod with 5000 series reel at the very least. Your weight should be a 4oz pyramid weight at the smallest, but really should be any of the sand specialized weight going to about 8 oz. Mullet works fine, but cut mullet tends to tear up in the surf. Try salting them for a day to toughen them up a bit. Same with any dead bait.
>>2168490Anyone know if there is a fishing camera that has a 100 meter long cord? I want to see what's happening when I'm fishing in the deep fjord near my house

>>2171715I don't know if you "must" have the fierce or not... I'm guessing you want the metal frame? Anyways, the Penn Pursuit IV just came out 48hrs ago and they have surf combos. Cheaper option. Or you could just buy a Penn Battle 3 anc a cheaper Surf Rod of your choice for the same price as that Fierce+Bigwater. Lots of options at that pricepoint. Probably a longer rod too for easier distance. 9ft+

Not too expensive, great reviews, and I had a couple Fierce IIs that I caught a lot of fish on. I had a Battle III 4000 on a St. Croix Mojo and my loving niece kicked it right off the dock(never to be seen again). I liked the Battle III - what little I got to use it. I'd probably go to a size 6000. Any recs for surf rods cheaper than a Bigwater?
>>2172091Apparently the boomers have spots that they don't share due to them being a pseudo non native species without a strong population.

There’s no way to know this other than the anecdotal evidence of “my buddy caught a bunch from the docks at night last year but not so much this year!!!” Maybe they are declining, maybe they are just hanging out in open water more, who tf knows.I just like catching the occasional non-spotty myself.

Shitty day. Carp weren't biting, all I managed to catch today was 2 bullheads and a sunburn. I also managed to jam a circle hook into my thumb past the barb.
Any good ways to organise soft plastics and hooks? I recently got into fishing, bought my first rod since I was a kid and a bunch of jig hooks and soft plastic lures. This far I've just used a bag and a small box that came with a hook set, but I'm planning to buy some kind of tackle box for them. Any suggestions? Also tackle box or bag? Am I overthinking this?
>>2172998Anyone ever try yak trolling for walleye? What lures would I use and conditions I should look for?
>>2173002The only conditions where there is consistent decent fishing them during the day is heavy wind and big waves along windswept rocky shores, which is no good for kayaking obviously. If you must fish during the day, fish deeper water near cover with slow trolled live bait rigs with a bottom bouncer. Any kind of bad weather is a good thing, especially approaching fronts. Post-front sunny and calm conditions pretty universally means awful walleye fishing.Your best bet is to get rigged up for nightfishing if you can. Make sure to look up your state's laws for lighting at bare minimum. Get out in the evening and troll crankbaits (I like floating rapalas, with weight added in front if needed) as close to the bottom as you can over rocks or along weedlines preferably around points near deep water. Fishing normally peaks right as it starts to get too dark to see well. Troll pretty fast, and occasionally pick up your rod and give it a pull then give it slack or use the kayak to sweep the rod then drop it back, you get hit a lot right after doing that. You can also still use a live bait rig, but it's nice not bothering with bait and you do not have to deal with bait robbers like perch or rockbass with lures. You can do that all the way into the night, they will normally bite all the way until morning. They normally move shallower as it gets darker, so keep that in mind. Sometimes they move into extremely shallow flats at night, where I bet a kayak could be really useful for the stealth factor. They are very boat shy when in shallower water, so try to let out as much line as you can manage. This is based off my experience in ND and MN fishing from a motorized boat. Might not fully apply to where you live or from a kayak.>>2173004Retard

>>2173088aaaaaah I'll show myself out
>>2173105Yes, but seat right on the board and crate further back. Being up that high sucks for keeping the nose of the board to the fish, and balance can get sketchy fighting sideways. I guess if it's 12 feet or better and wide it would be fine. I personally have to stick with a 10 footer because I need to have a hard board most times, and it fits inside my car. I have a 10 foot kayak as well. It's a real bitch to keep that one well balanced. I have stood on it, but it wants to tip easily. I could probably build outriggers, but that is more stuff to transport. It fits in the car though. I maintain a delicate balance in weight and length as well as collapsibility/transportability. I know it is weird to have such specific criteria, but I have found it works best for me and what I do personally. Everyone is different of course. I also have an inflatable, but that's reserved for hikes to ponds or lakes that are more than a mile or two away, or I places I am not able get the hard board to.
