How to filter out larpers:Youre going Out for a while. You plan to build a shelter and stay there for a while, or build shelters as you progress.Which saw do you take.
none of those, i take a propper green/dry blade and as important, a fileyou do know how to sharpen a saw saw, dont you anon?
>>1981279big one better
gas powered milwaukee chainsawif i'm building a shelter, i'm building a shelter
I'd take a bow saw
Fuck that, I'll just hang my hammock.
>>1981279>You plan to build a shelter and stay there for a whileFound the larper, what do I win?
>>1981287Not OP but.
>>1981279>rusty unsharpened shit
>>1981279would not touch any of these abonimations
>>1981279>You plan to build a shelterOkay, spotted the LARPer. Do I filter you out now or what?
>>1981279the best saw is the one you have on you
I take my tent desu
>>1981279One like this, perfect for fresh wood
>>1981279Both those saws suck. One is some chinkshit 16tpi blade that will clog every two strokes through green wood. The other one is a slightly less useless option, but is a rusty piece of chinkshit that is most likely dull and depending on how bad the rust is may start breaking teeth. Without a file and a sawset, it’s mostly useless as well.
>>1981481This is my choice too. I've cut a shit ton of wood over the years using a bow saw.
>>1981481This. I bought a $10 bowsaw from harbor freight and haven't looked back, it's all you need.
>>1981279do people actually go out and cut down trees just to larp? Take a tent nigger stop ruining things
>>1981279A fucking tent. Stop going innawoods and making larp shelters you faggot.
>>1981501>>1981509I used to see shitty shelters around the local hiking trails and they are an eyesore. There's really no need to build one unless you're lost in the bush or maybe camping out in the bush. But of you're in a fucking park or on a trail then stop larping and cutting down trees for no reason.
>>1981516The only legitimate reason to cut down stuff anywhere but your land is:>you are homeless or in need and cannot find any other shelter>stranded or lostOtherwise you should bring a tent and stop trying to look cool by destroying shit.
>>1981279>>1981481I've had both folding saws and bow saws snap on me. Mostly due to sloppy technique on my part and trying to take shit at angles, but yeah. I'll bring a hatchet.
>>1981285>you do know how to sharpen a saw saw, dont you anon?No it's a skill that was antiquated in the 60s.
>>1981485It's called a Swede saw
>>1981279Folding saws are for backpacks. Bigger projects require bigger tools.
https://youtu.be/_fNosQU1Ujg>For those who want to learn how to sharpen a saw on a max-comfy channel
>>1981764Bow saw>>1981767Do not cut trees so you can larp you faggot nigger.
>>1981501There is nothing wrong with taking down dead standing trees, hell, half the time you can just kick them over.
>>1981400yeah seriously, i don't need a saw to hang up my hammock
>>1981960Tell that to the birbs
>>1981279A folding treesaw desu
>>1981481True outdoorsmen right here. This or some variation including the collapsible 3 piece.
>>1981762your a larper
>>1981781Swede saw. I'm not a swede either that's what we always called them
>>1981279>one kinda shitty folding saw or>one shitty rusted harbor freight saw from 2002Teeth on the harbor freight saw look too small to easily sharpen. It's probably trash bc of the shitty steel desu. But also >>1981481 this over either.
>>1981285>you do know how to sharpen a saw saw, dont you anon?Nope. Like >>1981762 said. If you know how to, congrats. I don't. Icould probably sharpen my manual chain saw, but thats that.>>1981287Muh nigger :)>>1981286>>1981288>>1981484Larpers think small saw is more compact. They are wrong, bigger saw isflat and will fit the back of any backpack with ease. Also its not heavier, they are similar weight.>>1981338>>1982038The teeth are sharp as fuck, the rest can be brown, no fucks given. Yesthey ware cheap but they do the job well.>>1981400>>1981302I like building shelters. Its fun. And in winter, like now, they arebetter than tents (fire & shit). Fite me.>>1981501>>1981565>>1981781>stop ruining thingsJesus Christ, you hippy faggots, forests are full of trees and cutting afew small ones wont kill anyone. Not to mention the already fallen ones.>>1981994Tell what you child.>>1981481>>1981499>>1981485I had (still lies somewhere), I bought it specifically for cutting wet, fresh wood, but for some reason it sucked ass, at least for me.Snow fell. Finally. Im going Out tomorrow. See ya when I see ya.
>>1981279Realistically speaking I’d bring a handsaw, a good quality rip saw, a backsaw for any fine work and a triangular file. I’d also need a vise of some type but you can improvise with a set of clamps and boards if you must. Also some 3 in 1 oil to make sharpening go faster
>>1982177>triangular fileReally? Thats all thats needed to sharpen a rip saw? >Google YoutubeHm, it would seem so.
an axe and a mora fgt
Silky master race checking in. Get the accel 240. You can thank me later
>>1982472Buy once cry once
>>1982570bought a Bahco like 8 years ago, never looked back
>>1982574I’ll take the extra inch in blade length for the same length saw (when closed)
>>1982430What's this, a nail file?
I take my tent because I practice LNT and I'm not a larper
A challenger approaches
>>1982642that type of saw is so absolutely shit its laughable
>>1982430>>1982636Expensive, but so fucking worth it.
>>1982028No a many modern saws have hardened teeth and can't be sharpened with a file.
>>1982646Better than every portable hand saw. I'm not mtbiking with anything heavier
>>1982642>>1982646>>1982870>Better than every portable hand saw. I'm not mtbiking with anything heavierI have a decent one and from my experience: Small ones are garbage toys. Strong wide grips are a must. Its not lighter than any of other saws posted here. Its worse for cutting small branches, but its God Mode when cutting bigger trees. It really works wonders.Better 2 than 1, with two men you dont have to wrap saw around the tree and it wont get stuck as often.Getting a quality one is a must, with cheap chinkshit the teeth will often lock on each other, sometimes for good and saw is useless.Hard to find a good quality ones though, with market flooded with chink shit. At least here in EU, maybe in Burgeria there is wider choice.
>>1982661If only diamond files existed.
>>1981285>>1983073I honestly never needed to sharpen a saw, maybe cause they are hardened. But than again Im not a lumberjack and rarely use mine.I only sharpened my firewood chainsaws. I mean I pay people to do it, I cant be bothered.
>>1982896I had decent luck with the one I posted. Don't care about small branches I can ride over or break with man-hands.
>>1983073They're not hardened all the way through so if you start filing on them you remove the hardened surface destroying the saw. If a tooth hardened saw is dull you throw it away, the edge lasts a long time on them though.
>>1983439I'm sure only the very last atom of each tooth is hardened.
Left: OutdoorsmanRight: Larper
>>1983720Fuck off you weeb faggot.
>>1983719Ofcourse you know better than the generations of carpenters that have passed since tooth hardened saws were introduced in the 60s
Like any of you faggots are actually going out using your camp saw enough to warrant trying to sharpen it.https://youtu.be/hCP63PXSzJUHere you go weebs. Watch another YouTube video so you can be another armchair expert on this topic to other 4channers.
>>1983898>Newfag larperOr a jungle bunny. If jungle bunny sorry.
>>1982156cutting trees just so you can larp? You are literally validating yourself as a city-living cock sucking larper. Either buy your land and do whatever or take a tent you stupid nigger.
>>1984000machetes do not work in temperate climates? I can cut arm-thick trees and bamboo with mine. I am asking genuinely.>t. brazilian
>>1985535Machetes are awesome in jungle climate, in cold climate where branches are dry and thicker axes are much better.
>>1981279Silky zubat sand echo cs2511t because I'm not retarded.
>>1985534Larping is pretending to be someone you are not. I don't know where you live, but in here, nobody will say a word to teens, scouts or adults with kids who build small huts for fun. Actually its encouraged. Im not cutting full grown trees, that's illegal. Cutting a few thin bushes or young trees is perfectly fine. Especially if its dead. You are the one who is a city cuck. I bet you have bambi syndrome too.And I do own a bit of land, forrest even. Though I live in the city.
Bushcraft is fun and many good skills but tents exist and they keep out bugs. I don't build play forts anymore. I take the same folding saw I've had the entire time, it weighs <6oz and can be sharpened.
>>1985563cut your own damn trees your useless free loading city cuck. >going in the wild to cosplay as an "survivor" and cut down trees for free100% nigger behavior
>>1985550I do not live in the jungle, more like a savanna but still use a machete. It works pretty well.
>>1985563>Larping is pretending to be someone you are not. >I just pretend to be retarded>is actually retardedCheck mate atheists.
>>1983720The one on the left is some sort of cartoon but I can't see what is happening because the animation is so low quality - maybe if you linked a Disney cartoon or something I would understand what is is you are trying to say.
>>1985587Hippie fag tree hugger.
>>1981285The old style rusty one because I wanna conform to the arbitrary and autistic standards outdoorsmen purists on an anime imageboard.
Anything other than just bringing your tent is larping let's be real. Hell the only knife I bring anymore when backpacking is to help clean the fish. 99% of this board is larpshit. None of you fags ever even have storytimes about your /out/ventures.
>>1983720Damn the one on the right is pretty stupid, should've watched more Ray Mears :^)>>1983725>>1985619>posting on a board of a literal weeb forum
>>1982649Found the idiot. Bahco Laplanders are every bit as good as the Silky saws, and they are dirt cheap. Silkys are way too fucking expensive, and they can be that expensive because morons like you keep paying those outrageous prices.
>>1986099Because outventures are boring.>go canoeing>almost drown>lose paddle>the end
>>1986268More like Bahco Larplanders
>>1986304That made me chuckle, but fuck you still. They're good saws.
>>1986268t. never used SilkyMaybe an employed friend lets you borrow his some time so you can see for yourself.
>>1986283>splitting match sized sticks verticallyJust contact split ffs.
>>1986283Had a friend rib me for using a stick as a hold like that. Told me I should use my finger like a man. Told him he could hold my wood anytime he liked. Didnt get to finger him though.
>>1986504I have. They're very good saws, but not good enough to justify their price.
>>1986729I don’t think $60 for a saw that will last years is too much to ask. Are there cheaper saws? Sure. But $40-$60 for a saw that may last 3, 5, 10, 15 years doesn’t seem like too bad of an investment. Buy once, cry once
>>1986268Wrong, I use a silky zubat every day at work and nothing compares to their sharpness and longevity.
>>1981279Fucking neither, If it's only temporary I'll live in a cave
>>1986737The Laplander will last for years so long as you don't treat it like a mental invalid.>>1986852Yeah, the Laplander does.
>>1986722I liked ur joke anon.
>>1986861>The Laplander will last for years so long as you don't treat it like a mental invalid. So will the silky though, and it’s a better saw (better meaning it will cut faster with less effort)
Define shelter, some larp bushcraft lean to I bring a folding saw and some bankline, a proper cabin I bring my 044 an axe a staple gun and somp plastic painters tarp and a brace drill with a 2 inch auger bit, once I get the rough shape built I return home for more tools to finish it proper. I love folding saws to fuck around with but they aren't half the tool an axe is, and anyone who wants to carry a carpenter's saw has never used one that has been bent (like it would be if you tried to carry it flat in your pack)
>>1986904Stop trying to defend your bad purchase.
>>1986099Same can be said about tarpfags.>went hiking>this ONE time forgot my medkit that I always have>cut my finger to the bone like a woman>>1986279This. Outings are for experience, not for stories. Pic reloited.>>1986854Lucky cave anon.
Can we all just appreciate the ultimate in larp. They aren't even good axes
