I bought this NC700x as my first bike ~3 months ago. Doing my first oil change on it, since it doesn't have a center stand I went to Oreilly's and picked up a vacuum extractor.
Probably the easiest oil change I've ever done.

Generally they have an oil drain bolt that works great with the side stand, but I don't have an nc700x, and the reality is the vacuum extractor will always be useful.

I've narrowed down my choices and made up my mind. I will be buying one of the 3 bikes shown and will contemplate the pros and cons of each bike.

1. Pros: Does everything at least fairly well, but nothing exceedingly week, except for the daily commute. Great gas mileage. Not expense. It's a Honda. I t's DCT so that may entice the wife to start riding.
Cons: None really except maybe it has a scooter look from the front. Also no CC.

2. Pros. Classic American styling with dependable Jap reliability. Not pricy, even less so when used.
Cons: It's limited for usability. Must stick to paved roads.

3. Classic 60's,70's motorcycle. Pros. Classic looks with modern safety features. Comfy big seat. Stands out in the crowd.
Cons: Also limited as to where it can go. Maybe can be ridden a little off road so long as it's fairly smooth.

I have a cb500x as well, if this is your first bike theyre ok, but factory needs shit to be better, if you find one with stuff already onnit for cheap, its better than building up which is whqt im doing.

I stopped locking my helmet in the top back on shorter (sub 1 hour) stops once I realized I live in a civilized place. The helmet rests on the right mirror, I see no need to lock it anymore.

Took my bike out Saturday afternoon, I was on cloud 9 and rode around town so enjoyably. Went into downtown portland, took advantage of the lawless conditions there and it was such an amazing hooliganism. Then I rode across a wet patch of grass going through a park and broke a rib. Before this i was going 130 mph in between cars on the freeway, riding beautifully on the street and in a split second going 10 mph across some FUCKING GRASS, the rear wheel went out from under me and i went down on my ribs. Got too cocky bros. : /

Guy in our bike group had his gf riding on the back of his cbr1000 with her purse clutched in her hands around his stomach. Purse string wrapped around her shoulder/torso and the end clutched in her hands. Purse string came loose, caught in the chain, ripped her off the back of the bike at 120, sucked her into the rear tire. Brake rotor slicing through her arm pit, tire removing all the skin on her thigh and part of her back. She managed to hang on with one hand to the rear seat strap as she was getting pulled back. Had to do all kinds of skin grafts and didn't know if she was going to be able to use her right arm. The ligaments all around her shoulder were decimated. This was about a month and a half ago. I saw her the other day and she looked fine. She was in a robe, so I didn't see any of the areas that got grafted, but she was moving both of her arms just fine. My friend said she had regained all mobility, though she was still in pain.
Amazing what they can do with modern surgery and the resilience of the human body combined.
Oh yeah, and don't leave loose strings while riding.
