I know jackshit about cars but I've wanted this car since I saw my HEROES SAM&MAX driving it as a kid. What do I have to watch out for? What prices am I looking at? Do I buy a fixer upper or one in good conditon?
>>26670723Regardless of current condition you must check parts availability. It's not a good feel when something breaks and you find out the part cannot be found anywhere for any amount of money.
>>26670742I don't really care about the internal parts or anything like that and I'm fine with replacing the engine with a modern one or whatever I just want the classic sleek 1960 DeSoto Adventurer look.
that's a very rare car as Desoto was almost finished in 1960. no you do not fall for the LS swap meme.
>>26670822What is an LS swap and do I have any chance of finding this car in yurop or would I have to ship it in from the us?
>>26670723actually based Salmonax fan
>>26670723You can get insurance that will pay enough to replace it if something happens, but they won't let you drive it.You can get insurance that will let you drive it, but won't pay you anywhere near what it would take to fix it if something were to happen.Pick one.
>>26670756>don't really care about the internal parts or anything like thatYeah, what about trim pieces? Glass? Window regulators? Lenses? Door latches, and so on. Engines and transmissions are likely to be among the least problematic items to get on any classic let alone DeSotos that have all but disappeared.

>>26670839Some places in yupop just hate cars but some places like England I think if the car is 40 years old you don't need an inspection. In some places the inspection will be almost impossible to pass.Metal can all be repaired or remade, glass is harder but some places do replicate glass if they feel like it.>>26670756In a way you ruin the car just by replacing the engine without much thought, I don't personally like engine swaps unless it really suits the car. Eg a 75 dodge with modern 5.7 hemi. Issue is new engines don't fit exactly and some people just do so much cutting and hacking that it might be better just to rebuild the original engine. I would never personally never buy a classic again that had an engine swap.
>>26670723That I hate you and im jealousI dream of getting a 56' adventurer/firdeome, maybe 57-59 and or a 58 packard... and maybe golden hawk tootreat any fucking rust you see fucking immediately, POR-15 and WB HRZScheck the brake system/electrics if theyve been upgraded to alternators/dual masterI think Mopar switched to the 383 wedgehead for 59, I think 1960 might have gotten the snake intake runners with dual 4 barrels, if thats too much of a pain to tune, you can just bolt on a new intake and a 2 barrel or single 4 barrel, the old air intakes might also choke during the summer/hot days, so having to figure out a cold air intake might be an issueso besides the engine, the main issue is the fact youre completely fucked for literally everything but the drivetrain part of the car
>>26671545I second that with the engine swap thing. Bought a 62 CJ5 with a Buick 198 V6 swap that was probably done back in the 60s, and finding parts for it or the original carb was damn near impossible, as well as the engine not being mounted correctly so it would shake a lot at high revs. Wish it had an original hurricane desu
