Mazda Motor Corporation announced that the Le Mans winning Mazda 787B will be conducting a demonstration run at the Centenary Anniversary of 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The 91st race is due to be held at the Circuit de la Sarthe in France from June 7 to 11, 2023.(1)The Mazda 787B, powered by a four-rotor rotary engine, became the first Japanese car to win the 59th 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. The ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest), the event organizer, invited us to conduct this demonstration run. Taking place on June 9 and 10, the car will be driven by Yojiro Terada, who holds a record of 29 appearances at Le Mans.To celebrate the 100th anniversary of 24 Hours of Le Mans, the winning race cars from previous years will be displayed at the Le Mans Museum, located close to the Circuit de la Sarthe, from June 1 until to July 2. The Mazda 787B will also take part in a demonstration run on the short course on the evenings of June 9 and June 10 before the 24 Hours race commences, where it will conduct a full-circuit demonstration run with other iconic Japanese Le Mans winning cars from Toyota Motor Corporation/TOYOTA Gazoo Racing. The Mazda 787B is also scheduled to demonstrate at the Le Mans Classic from June 30 to July 2.https://www.marketscreener.com/amp/quote/stock/MAZDA-MOTOR-CORPORATION-6491269/news/Mazda-787B-to-Demonstrate-at-24-Hours-of-Le-Mans-Centenary-Anniversary-43940458/

>>26668600Surprised they'd let it back on the circuit after it hurt their asses so hard they had to ban it from competing
>>26668620Not what happened.
>>26670586>t. asshurt pistonlet
>>26670608>t.retarded gran turismo player who doesn't know that the regulation change was set in stone before it even won
>>26670612Rotaries raced for a few years prior and we're getting progressively more threatening. the ban was preemptive, mazda was lucky to hit their stride just as the rules changed
>>26668600i love how these le mans cars haven't changed in appearance one bit in forever. why don't they make a supercar that looks like one?
>>26670608Proud rotary owner.>>26670620I doubt it. The only thing the rotary had going for it was track reliability.
>>26670624Is that not what won them the race? The 24 hour of Le Mans isn’t about hitting the highest speed, you know. It’s over 24 hours for a reason
>>26670624yeah and who needs reliability in an endurance race? why didn't mazda just enter a top fuel dragster??
>>26670621The poms make a handful of low number hypercars that are a bit le mansy but they're all terrible
>>26670612>THE PISTONLET CRIES OUT IN PAIN AS HE STRIKES YOU
>>26670608The ones who were asshurt at the time were the fia because group c was beating f1 in popularity, so among other things they forced the aco to cut down the hanaudieres straight, prototypes had to use f1 derived engines and undid the effort to bridge regulations with american and japanese endurance championships.
>>26668600i'm surprised mazda is still parading this thing around considering it only won because the ACO basically crippled the competition with hundreds of lbs of ballast. most people aren't going to be aware of why it won, and i think donut media only fanned the false legacy this thing has, so go figure.
>>26670711we've already covered the asshurt piston angle but thanks for playing
>>26670711faggots at donut dont know shit except for whats on a wikipedia article. rotaries are the shit, fuck the donuts
>>26670672>The ones who were asshurt at the time were the fia because group c was beating f1I wish Dounut would make a video about this so we would stop seeing>>26668620 >it hurt their asses so hard they had to ban it from competingIf you are a true rotaryfag, tell me what chassie pic related is.
>Mazda didn't actually win LeMans, everyone else lost inexplicablywhy is this c/o/pe in every 787b thread?
>>26672240Because everyone else was running circles around mazda and there's nobody more annoying than the internet jdm brigade
>>26670612GT enjoyer herethe car description literally mentions it wasn't banned, it just ran with classic group C spec (aka no F1-derived V10 engines) in the last year it was allowed sooooo.... that guy is just retarded
>a lightning strike lucky odds vehicle>using an engine not made anymore>that hasn't operated in over 25 years>is going to do an endurance challengeWhat the fuck Mazda just let it rest in peace.
>>26670621>looks like oneThe Pagani Zonda design was inspired by oldFIA Gruppe C designs
>>26670630That is exactly what won them the race. All of the leaders either wrecked or catastrophically broke down and DNF'd. They didn't win because they were the fastest, they won because they were the most reliable, which is ironic since I believe the other two Mazda rotary cars DNF'd that race.
>>26672476They bring it out every couple of years to Le Mans and the car gets driven fairly regularly on various circuits.2011https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az39eqLIbyUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxXtpMngivM
>>26672634And with the nature of rotary engines and carbon build up, they can't just bring this car to events and start it and rev it all the time, it has to be wound out hard periodically as maintenance. Literally an Italian tune-up.
There are acceptable reasons to get tinnitus. This is one of them.
>>26672240they lost due to the weight ballast placed on them. mazda was practically given the win.
>>26672301>Because everyone else was running circles around mazda and there's nobody more annoying than the internet jdm brigade
>>26673134I fucked your mom Japanese styre
Thanks for the (you) kind stranger
>last chance to hear the R26B in-person at La SartheTo any rich anon's that have tickets to this year's Le Mans, give me your ticket. I deserve it more than you do.
>>26668600Further point to rx9 being a real thing. Factory 3 rotor. Hybrid will kind of kill it but at least we might get one more rotary before we are forced to 1:1 scale toy RC cars
>>26673700They run it a lot at the lemans historic. It's also just not that loud
Daily reminder that while Mazdas Le Mans program was never exceptionally successful, they were the most utterly dominant force in American sports car racing for over a decade
>>26671439It's a shame Downing never seemed to get enough factory support after they killed the R26B.
