It's that time of year, /o/. That time of year when we come to celebrate one of the finest vehicles Nissan ever produced. Come one, come all, bring us the story of your time with the Nissan 300zx.
>>
>>26664781
Is that yours? Looks nice. I’m glad it doesn’t have huge wheels and rubber band tires.

Keep driving it. All Z cars are beautiful (within reason).
>>
>>26664781
The vastly superior pathfinder got me around snowy mountain roads a few years ago.
>>
>>26665062
Nah not mine, just a random Google pic. Sold mine not too long ago. 107k mileage 2+2 model.
>>
>>26665082
Superior if all you care about is raw practicality sure.
>>
>>26664781
Bought it for $1800 with 107k miles on it in 2007 and put another 100k on it. Only pic I have is from like 2010 next to my old 280zx turbo.
>>
Never had a 300zx but I do miss my 240sx greatly
>>
>>26664781
there's a 1985 turbo 5mt one rotting away at the shop I work at after the customer abandoned it when we told them it needed a coolant filler neck I found for them on ebay for $60
>>
>>26664781
Worst Z car
Got fat and heavy and lost what the Z car was about.
>>
>>26666863
$60
And he abandoned it?
>>
>>26667524
It's been sitting here since January and we can't get ahold of him to get his heap off our property
>>
>>26667579
Some people are on drugs, have massive debt, can’t pay for shit, broke, gonna be homeless soon, etc. so I can imagine his scenario. I don’t like seeing neat vintage cars just rotting.

My daily driver is a 280zx that I’ve finally got to a pass a safety inspection. It starts, runs, and stops properly now although the cruise control and a/c don’t work. It sat for over seven years in a driveway too.
>>
>>26666923
If I have to read this dumb argument one more time I’m gonna snap, the Z32 gained 400 more pounds and was twice as much of a bloated technological nightmare under the hood and the automotive press gave it a 10 year long ballwashing

This argument doesn’t even make sense; the turn from muh true sports car to luxury grand tourer began a whole generation earlier with the 280zx (“x” was Nissan’s luxury designation). It wasn’t until z31 that it matured into a true next gen car that could hang with the C4 which had just come out
>>
Z32TT is the only Z car with owning or discussing. Everything else is cheap slow cope.
>>
>>26665587
Pathfinder is also more stylish. Its rwd till you need 4wd. Only thing it isnt good for is 100+ mph
>>
>>26667905
>swarthy hands typed this post.
>>
>>26667845
The Z32 is a beautiful work of art and the TT actually make decent power. Also, it's got SUPER HICAS you frogposting NIGGER

The Z31 can still make ~450HP on stock internals before the cast iron pistons start becoming a problem. Super HICAS is just a mechanical headache waitning to happen, not to mention the added weight.
The Z31 is the quintessential Z car, sorry. It also looks the best out of all of them.
>>
>>26667845
>Z32 gained 400 more pounds and was twice as much of a bloated technological nightmare under the hood and the automotive press gave it a 10 year long ballwashing
Yes because it was a much better car that is still modern today.
>>26667905
Pretty much.
>>26670514
>The Z31 can still make ~450HP on stock internals before the cast iron pistons start becoming a problem.
They can, but yours doesn't and won't. Sad argument.
>>
>>26664781
They don't make em like they used to
>>
Wish the new Z styled after the old ones or bring back the 280zx as a cheaper alternative.
>>
does anyone have first hand recommendations to make this a fast fun weekend car? i have one that is clean and stock, and ive been doing general maintenance before going deep into it. the fourms look outdated
>>
>>26671279
>that is still modern today.
lol?
>>
>>26671426
>first hand recommendations to make this a fast fun weekend car?
Is it turbo or na? if it's na just leave it alone unless you want to spend a fuck load of money.
>>
>>26671426
Stiffen up the suspension and replace any worn parts. My friend has one and it's plenty quick, just a bit soft around corners. I'm sure the brakes could use a simple upgrade too.
>>
>>26671690
it is turbo
>>26671979
alright ill add that to my list thanks anon
>>
>>26672572
First and most obvious mods are intake and exhaust, then you’re looking at a boost controller. I think on the stock turbo you can get away with either 10 or 11psi max, currently it will be set at 7.5. A front mount intercooler is worth looking into if you’ll be upping the boost. BOV as well
although it needs to recirculate, cannot vent to atmosphere. On mine the whole suspension was ripped out and replaced with bilstein shocks and struts. Lowered an inch with suspension techniques lowering springs.

That’s the basic “light mods” path and will get you to somewhere around 250-270hp at the crank which feels very quick in these cars. Going further than that involves bigger turbos, redoing fuel system, and then eventually forged internals, ceramic headgasket etc.

Boy oh boy I do love slow cars that look like door wedges.

Pic related. One of the greatest cars ever made

alright i got it, thanks alot. if that is your z it looks super clean.

It's sad to see. My 300 never saw a shop, I maintained it myself. A $60 repair is nothing, maybe a Saturday's afternoon of work. They're remarkably simple cars to maintain for the most part due to their age, and pretty reliable as daily drivers honestly. Only flaw is I could never seem to find the parts to upgrade my AC to r13 so I used the t-tops as much as possible to save my ailing AC. Cruise control module never worked in mine because the first owner removed that control module when they installed an upgraded stereo.

>>26667905
Overly complicated in TT form, overly hyped in all forms. Turbo z31s are still fun without costing you as much financially or time wise.
But muh Diablo headlights amirite?

>>26668246
To be fair the z31 sucks in triple digits too without some lift management. They feel rather light at those speeds stock.

>>26668565
Super HICAS is a neat feature but ultimately kinda pointless.
>>
Might be buying a z31 turbo soon. It sat for 7 years under a pole barn with the valve covers off. Thinking about getting a cheap vg33 from a junkyard and dropping that in with a gt35 and a maxima intake.
>>
>>26664781
i wanted a 280z/280zx but never had the opportunity to get one.
the 300zx looks ok in some colors and model years and absolutely pigfat in others.
>>
>>26673846
>Thinking about blah blah
you won't
>>26673083
Oddly this is the firs time I see a Z31 on Z32 wheels. Looks pretty OK. Your front wheels are on backwards.
>>
>>26674150
>you won't
it's only $700, the fuck I won't. Nobody even knows about it and he doesn't have it listed anywhere. He also has an s13 vert for $1k that needs a new top but runs.
>>
>>26664781
hi guys, I'm here from this thread
>>26670674
My mechanic buddy found a barn find 5mt na z31, rust free, really clean interior, good paint, just a little faded clear coat. He got it running on the guy's property and the guy seems to just want it gone. He thinks he can get it for $3k and asked if I want it. Should I be interested?
>>
>>26664781
a z31 has been my dream car ever since people started buying up e39s and e46s to burn as drift cars

but good fucking god do people pay a premium for them, a shitbox NA auto z31 won't go for anything under 15k these days when 10 years ago it'd be a third of that if even. not to mention parts are seemingly impossible to find. all the manual ones i've ever seen listed have huge rust issues too

280s are even worse as finding one that isn't rusted into oblivion is next to impossible
>>
>>26674790
are you serious? I thought z31s were the cheap nissan nobody wants
I found a rust free manual NA z31 for 3kish
>>
>>26674790
>a shitbox NA auto z31 won't go for anything under 15k these days
fucking where? They're all over florida for under $4k.
>>
>>26674542
I don't doubt that you'd spend the $700 to buy it and let it keep rotting away in your possession, but you will not be "getting a cheap vg33 from a junkyard and dropping that in"
Not because it's hard. You just won't.
>>
>>26673829
Sad cope. The reason Z32s cost more is because they're better cars in every conceivable metric (headlights included). And a big part of the reason they were so hyped is because they weren't Z31s.
>>
>>26675795
nigger, I work at a shop and have it at my disposal on the weekends, nothings stopping me.
>>
>>26666828
I'm in the process of restoring a 240sx that has that exact same paint scheme
>>
>>26676176
Please make a thread when you're finished. You won't. So stop talking like you will, poorfag.
>>
>>26676333
I just realized I fell for reverse psychology, well played. Found a motor already for $300.
