Toyota FJ Cruiser - classic or dud?
>>
>>26660350
SEVERELY Overpriced.
>>
It's a big Honda Element or a small Hummer, you can decide for yourself if that's cool or dumb.

Fj40 was hellabased. The fj cruiser is a mixed bag. It was BOF and some markets had a manual transmission with a torsen center diff. The suspension was a double wishbone front and multilink rear which was pretty cool but means there's not a lot of aftermarket support. There was some computerized fuckery with the brakes and tcs to mimic limited slip/locking diffs but that's not as good as the real deal. The triple windshield wipers and overall styling is different, so if you like it that's a plus. The rear visibility is unbelievably bad, makes a Camaro or full size SUV look easy to back into your garage by comparison. The engine is a V6 that revs too much in Toyota fashion, makes decent-for-a-v6 power but at like 17mpg hwy on premium so you're paying big v8 gas bills.
Overall I would pass but it's not a horrible choice.

Hideous, fisher-price interior, dogshit visibility, shit ride quality. It’s garbage. Toyota shit is such a meme. Can’t wait until I get rid of my 4Runner
>>
>>26660350
Visibility is ass, the goofy shit other people mentioned like the triple front wipers
The backseats are actually pretty comfy once you squeeze the the bottleneck of a back door
>>
I had one, but traded it in for a diesel trugg. The FJ I had was very low maintenance and felt planted in all offroad conditions i put it in, but it wasn’t fun to drive. The FJ doesn’t have any ass, has lots of road noise, very low visibility while driving, and the interior was not easy to clean for an offroad vehicle. At current prices, i wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy one.

some instagram chick was showing off the fj40 she bought two weeks prior to her posting about it, said she wanted to fucking daily it lmfao. enjoy the numb ass and destroyed back

Since when does the 4.0 take premium? And how is 17MPG expensive to feed?
>>
>>26663022
The early models had a premium requirement. Toyota later release a TSB that you could run regular. The engine sounds and feels a lot smoother if you stick to premium.
>>
They’re cool, kinda funky but cool in their own way. Toyota should have never stopped making them for NA, but then again its a 4Runner with a body kit. Alot of anti Toyota fags on here don’t understand the charm these vehicles have, yeah the interiors are plain and cheap looking but they hold up like a motherfuck. My 2011 Tacoma had 270k miles on it when i sold it drove the piss out of it for 10 years, all I ever did was do fluids, brakes, tires. The fucking thing didnt want to die just kept running smooth and strong and the interior held up fantastic after beating the shit out of it. I know for sure my Raptors interior let alone anything else wouldn’t have lasted to 270k trouble free.

I have a 2013 bought new anon.BOF, neat suspension, solid 4.0 engine, rear locker plus part time 4wd for the auto and ATRAC. Can turn off all the electronic TCS nannies if you want with a button press. Rear visibility isn't nearly as bad as people say; I am positive those who complain about it are women or manlets. Seats are big and comfy, the rear seats are surprisingly comfortable once you squeeze back in there. Cargo space is not great but the roof rack helps a ton. The full size spare is also very nice and easy to get to and have had to use it many times with random flat tires.
I have 33s Toyo AT3s on it and I get about 20mpg on the highway. If I go above 80 it drops fast, if I stay around 65 I get about 23mpg. In town is not good as you would expect, I think during the winter here in Wyoming when I didn't leave town I averaged 14mpg but that was strictly in town, never about 45mph. I dig the styling and obviously that is subjective, but at least it looks different and unique and not an ugly ANGERY blob most SUVs are. The interior is also almost all hard plastic with no carpeting but I much prefer that. Mine has 150k miles on it interior still looks great-it isn't that type of plastic that scratches easily it can take a beating. The rear cargo spot has more scratches but I also have had numerous retarded/obese dogs back there for a decade. Very easy to clean. The manual is ok but I got an auto as the manual is full time 4wd and it gets even worse MPG. I use 87/89 and can't tell the difference between that and 91. However, one anon above said that the earlier years had different engines/drivetrains so definitely get one after the refresh. The refresh also comes with a backup camera which helps if you are a woman and can't figure out backing up. The resale value is insane. I bought mine with all the good off road packages in Oregon for under $31,000 flat and I can sell it now for more than that. I would recommend anon.

Beast of a car

I always thought they were cool because they looked like giant plastic toys instead of soulless and ugly like most SUVs.

Bog standard for memeyota. Even the Lexus interior is mogged by 10-year-old Acuras or the current year Accord. I honestly can't stand sitting in them even if they're mechanically sound cars that last forever.
>>
I want one but the prices in Florida are insane. 12k for a 10 year old car.
>>
I gave up on buying one when I saw an ad for one that had been rolled for $10k. Super expensive since they've been discontinued and are now an enthusiast vehicle.

It's a fun head-turner, but a normal 4Runner does everything that it does better aside from head-turning.

Hopefully the market for them becomes less retarded once it becomes legal to import GCC models where they were still being sold until last year.

It's literally a reskinned 4runner, no?
