So what's your guys opinions on a 3rd Gen Dodge Ram?
>>
>>26639870
the first gen is the only gen that I would use for offroading, purely because of the 12v and the solid axles. after that it's clear that the design is detached from something that can be taken offroading without much issue
>>
>>26639946
I dont plan on heavy off roading like rocks and shit. Just something to get around on some light trails and to go camping and fish with.

And yes i made that thread

So this is the road to my property.
We got a fair amount of rain and it turned into this (like always).
It dried out and was navigable in the car today but it's raining again so truck only access again for a couple days.

Guy in my town had one of these for one winter and sold it. He pulled trailers with it too. Theres an ICE truck in his driveway now.
>>
There is a 1967 Jeep for sale near me. $3000. It is well used, in fair condition but runs and has a very cool beater look to it. Also has the hardtop. Broken Odometer and speedometer. Is the price a good deal? I didn't drive it but the guy says it's all fine.
>>
>>26641404
jeep ducking was made by some lady to promote her instagram page then some fag decided that they'd also put ducks on other jeeps they saw.
as far as im aware you dont really see this kind of shit with other vehicles. maybe only at the track when theres a group of them.
>>
>>26642681
Yeah I've only seen it with jeeps. You should see the XJ groups they legit want to shoot someone over it. And will delete posts about ducks. I think its harmless.
>>
>>26642598
Honestly depends on how solid it is.
That we'll worn look can just be considered "patina" or it might be "cancer".
Take a flat blade screwdriver to the frame.
If it just scratches the rust like it was covered in dirt, that's fine.
It the frame flakes off in chunks or the screwdriver goes through, just walk away
>>
>>26642691
I want to buy some ducks and find a group of XJ's out on the trails now...

us XJers have just gotten rather jaded after seeing us and TJs really being the holdout for "serious" offroading with our jeeps that the duck thing is just peak jeep larping to us. people get really proud of getting "ducked" and it just seems so weird to me
>>
>>26642774
I was looking at a XJ myself cause i know they pretty good. Just they get so triggered over the littlest shit. I'm just gonna get a Ram most likely. Since i find my self needing a truck more then having to climb rocks.
>>
>>26642797
>I was looking at a XJ myself cause i know they pretty good
they're quickly turning into a dying breed. I'm very passionate about mine, it's my pride and joy, but I'd be damned if it weren't such a pain in my ass to keep on the road.
>. I'm just gonna get a Ram most likely
go for it, even for basic offroading a Ram is overkill so I'd expect you to have a good amount of fun
> i find my self needing a truck more then having to climb rocks.
I don't care for rock climbing as much as others do but I'm in the same boat where I'm looking to save up some cash to get a used 4x4 truck to daily and have the jeep as my weekend toy

Maybe harmless, but the weird subculture around Jeeps was one of the reasons I didn't go that route. Seeing all these mall crawlers with the dashboards covered in ducks... Only a matter of time before someone comes up with something stupid like that for the Broncos, too, I suppose.

who are you trying to convince when you bring up offroad races when this general is about offroading by the layman? I swear to god that's all you idiots have to say when people point out the reality of average offroading
>>
>>26643452
>this general is about offroading by the layman?
Laymen use whatever they have and most of the time it isn't an XJ or TJ, hell it may not even be a 4WD vehicle. I just brought up the race because you laughed off the pickups, baja always seems to rile up the devout jeepfags.
>>
>>26643535

>>
>>26642745
It's not my driveway, it's a county maintained road.
This happens constantly.
County has 2 of pic related. They don't store them in an equipment yard. They just drive around all day down all the dirt roads. By the time they hit all the roads they just start at the beginning again.
>>

NTA but I grew up in Southern california and know multiple amateurs that ran the baja.
It's not just about the Trophy Trucks.
Rednecks in the southeast make those crazy mudbog trucks.
Here we make desert runners.

I've been on all the colorado ones in my truck and they are nothing to get worried about. Most of those are on the alpine loop depending on how you start it. Hurricane pass is worse than those. A stock tacoma/wranger/bronco can do all of them with ease.

They're just the Jeep Brand approved trails on the Jeep/Stellantis website with an app. It's a corpo marketing tool. Jeep found a way to monetize their customers and collect data even when out camping. If you think about it, its just like a video game and thats was probably they're target. There's a reason you never see them on serous rigs. It's for the people that need every experience in life web enabled.

it would also be a good idea to go to a muddy area and run over it like crazy, and if people ask where you've been, you'd tell them in the mexican desert, you should make up a story about the desert, mud, and narcos but without shootouts cause they'd notice there's no bullet holes in your car, try to work something out

So I'm going to hep him rewire that dash when he gets the money.

Installed the new center diff actuator and now it's unlocked again so that's good. No idea why it's still not working. I know the actuator and the locker both work but not together some how. Need to figure out how to hold the gears in place so I can run the actuator with the cover off and see what's going on inside.

Funny because I’ll be doing exactly that
>>
>>26657547
Value is it's main problem. Every single person who bought one is upsidedown on their loans unless they put like 25k down. So you drive it for a bit and realize it's a price of trash Nigsan with insane parts costs and less times. Then you lose your mid management job and when you goto the dealer to unload it they laugh and say I'll give 20k for it. No one wants them and less people want them used with problems. So now you're standing on the George Washington bridge ready to paint yourself on a barge because Stacy is threatening divorce over the 02 Corolla you had to stick her in after leaving the keys to the Rivian in the deposit box at the bank.

My 99 Cherokee xj's oil pressure gauge suddenly dropped to 10psi on my way home.
I let it cool, same reading, even before turning the key from on to start it sits at that 10psi first tick.
I took the pressure sensor off and the thing looks brand new.
I'm thinking tomorrow I'll pick up a new one and a manual pressure gauge.
Anything else I should check?
It's got 270k on it, so I might have to bite the bullet and do the rod bearings and oil pump job. But this really doesn't seem like a failed pump from the sound of the engine and strange behavior of the gauge.
>>

I'm pretty sure oil pressure sensors fail and just spike to maximum pressure, since mine is dead and is sitting at 80 psi, unless the opposite is true as well

Is On-X Offroad worth it? It seems to mainly be marketed to soys and overlarpers.

I like the idea of having trail maps and shit.
>>
>>26668815
i just use ATAK. it's free and way more customizable. throw it on a phone, tablet, or laptop, add in the map links for google earth hybrid, select the areas you want to download maps for (wait a couple of hours) and import the GPX trails for where you want to go, or create your own.

https://youtu.be/WXuQERL_e8M

of course, it does take time and some technical knowledge to set up. I don't have any experience with On-X Offroad, so I don't know how it compares to some of the other paid subscription mapping services.

One of the nice things about my truck is this offroad navigation is built into the headunit. Often it will try to take an offroad trail even when you don't actually want to do that. Have to be careful when following it in the mountains. I had one time it wanted to go over a rougher pass that I've done in the day however it was 3AM and I didn't really want to run that pass at night with a passenger who was trying to sleep.
>>
>>26669075
Heard that On-X will try to send people down private roads/driveways.
>>
>>26669108
I haven't used that myself. I used to use google maps and import gpx files to it and download maps of all the areas in the region and had no problems with it.
Now I just use the GPS in my truck, so far it hasn't sent me down a private road or drive. It does really like to pick forest roads that haven't seen maintenance in a few decades or more. Been quite a few times where I've had to drive up the side of the hill since the road was washed out.
>>
>>26668815

It can get you into a lot of backcountry and trails that a motor vehicle can't handle, and it has the benefit that you can pick it up and lift it over nearly any obstacle?

There really aren't many. The only ones are west of the blue ridge. Piedmont and east it's just small scattered play areas no real trails

Eh my ZJ, XJ, and wait the TJ needed a new computer cuz it sat outside for a couple years so that kind of counts as electrical issues

They pop up but you better have the money ready to go because they don't stay up for long. Plus 30k for an '06 w 125k that's not an LX470 does hurt.

Can flat tow them and LWB is more stable on highway. Plus it's the best OEM Jeep ever.

DoomerTapes just released his ATAK guide, and it can help. it's mostly targeted towards milsim larpers, but it's useful. he recommends getting the official version, but there's CIVTak that's available on the play store for simpler applications. pretty much has the same functionality. the maps section is the only one you'll really need to worry about for what you want to do:

Can't carry 4 rifles, ammo, steel targets with stands, tent, and the rest of my larping gear down 15 miles of highway and another 10 into the mountains on a bike.
