Calling all goldwing anons! Particularly the ones with older ones.

There is an old guy with a 93 Goldwing in my area, it has 50k miles and was only used for one big trip almost 30 years ago to the grand canyon. It has sat for the majority of that time, but it does run and ride. The guy is too old to ride it, and his son doesn't want it. He wants $2500 for it, but I think I can get him down to 2k. Is it worth it? Is it too far gone, and how hard are bigger driveshaft bikes like this to work on? My current bike is a 600, is this too much to step up to? I'm going to look at it this Thursday.

noob here with a dumbass question: do you need to chain the oil filter every time you change your oil? I'm gonna change my oil again at the end of the month, last time I changed it I bought an oil filter. Should I do it again? Or is there some way you can 'tell' you need a new filter?
>>
>>26453241
the absolute state of supersport riders
>>
>>26453636
Yes change your oil filter. It's got a bunch of old oil and all the shit your old oil has in it. Filters aren't expensive, amazon has cheap packs of them for like $10-30 for a 5 pack depending on your model.
>>
>>26453636
What does the manual say?
>>
>>26453636
Oil has cleaning additions to it and as it flows through the engine all the dirt goes to the filter. Idk if it's on all bikes but on the gn when the filter is too clogged a valve opens and lets the oil pass unfiltered. Also that's a good way to tell a good oil: when you change it and the filter looks dirtier than with another oil brand, that means the new oil is cleaning the shit that the old one wasn't
>>
>>26453636
If you change the oil early and don't wait for the manuals recommended you can change the filter every 2 oil changes
>>
>>26453651
>>26453649
>>26453645
>>26453642
Aight cool I'll buy a new filter. Need to buy the oil too anyway so I can get both no problem. Still don't really have a good way of capturing/disposing of the oil either. Besides the ol "cities problem now" method

> Take out the battery to charge overnight

Ended up hammering an 8mm hex nut into the battery terminal hole and that's how the season starts for me.

>Installed a 4led light bar last season
>High beam is light bar

>Loose screw on one side of lightbar, other side loosens itself
>Bar bounces back and forth between the road / trail and shining right in my face and blinding me
And that's how the season starts for me, well apart from my chain tensioner springing an oil leak, my fork seal springing an oil leak, and putting it away last season with a bald rear tyre.

I've been looking at my state's trail riding system and there seem to be absolutely none within four-six hours of me. Which isn't a problem, but frankly I'd like getting some practice close to home as I'm rather clueless about the outdoors.
I now realize that the fun looking road along the train tracks is a no go as well.
And pretty much everything's paved.
How do you find campgrounds besides the marker on a map?
If I find a nice path along some wilderness nearby, how can I tell if I'm supposed to go down it on a motorcycle or I'm trespassing on someone's land?

I just finished my spring tube up on the old 06 KLR.
I'm looking it over thinking of what to do to it to make this riding season better. Last year I found it was too fat and tall for my skill level on some of the rutted out fire roads I used to like doing on my DR200. I'm thinking of installing some lowering links I got with the bike from the previous owner.
Besides that some hand guards, fix the faded paint, and maybe an LED front headlight.
Though if there's a way to just replace the whole face on this thing it would probably be better given how beat up I've made it.
Thoughts?
I've already done the doohickey, frame bolts, flush drain plug, skid plate, and luggage.
>>

Fuel injection will compensate, that's the whole point of it
>>
>>26454879
Motorcycle fuel injection is car injection from the 90s. It relies on
>air (maf or map)
>throttle pos
>rpm

Thats it. It will increase based on airflow only as the table allows. A better flowing exhaust may in theory improve efficiency enough to increase airflow, but if it gets above (out of range) of the table, fuel will only increase linearly and the engine will run lean

90s fuel injection did make use of narrowband o2 sensors, but this would often be only in a ‘cruise’ state and would need some conditions to activate. Modern cars have more advanced tables and even widebands, motorcycles are a way off from this and likely may never see it unless euro7,8 or 9 necessitate it
>>
>>26454686
As a first bike it has exactly enough power for me. I get good pulling power up to at least 85mph, which is the fastest I've ever taken it on roads, and the engine never bogs unless I'm doing something retarded like a standing start in fifth gear. Could it go faster? Yeah. Could *I* go faster? Probably not yet.

Novel take. The first time I rode a fast bike was after 3 months on a gsxr750. My learner bike always felt weak after that. I will never subscribe to the idea that one must master every cc class before to upgrade to the next, if you want to haul ass from the bottom of 5th buy a litre bike and work the tendies off over the next summer

>>26454912
On my 2008 lexus there was
>maf
>intake temp
>throttle position
>rpm
>wideband bank 1
>wideband bank 2
>exhaust temp

Not much extra but enough to be noticeable. I put a catback on it, which made it super loud. A week later it got quieter and probably faster

I got an extra 10 mph top speed out of my SR400 ditching the huge stock cat/muffler, top speed is now limited by gearing instead of power so a definite improvement. It can vary from vehicle to vehicle and can depend on exhaust design and fueling as well. What bike do you have?
>>
>>26454677
only if you're going to run a fuel controller/dyno tune.
Keep in mind that's what most of the increase on the sales page for aftermarket exhausts comes from. What's more hilarious is how little difference it actually makes even after a professional tune.
>>
>>26455019
And you should be looking at curves, not just a peak number. Many will just fuck with the rev limiter to end up showing a higher hp figure.
>>
>>26455023
Yeah some will lose power throughout 80% of the rev range and make a little more peak power right at the top.

It's unlabeled.
But I did put a clamp meter on it, trying to inflate a 30psi to 33PSI using the battery tender terminals it just did 4A.
This bastard is loud as fuck.

Not a real problem when using a emergency tire pump tho.
I was thinking in get one of those really small manual pumps for small trips. I mainly run 21PSI in the front and 26~28 in the back, so a manual pump should do the job...

You would need literal magic battery density to match the power-to-weight or range of ICE bikes.

Post a company manufacturing them in bulk or fuck off. Meme battery tech that never leaves the lab happens every few months.

I think this thread is cooked but:
>Goldwing maintenance is very expensive. It will probably need 1k of servicing at least.
>Goldwing parts can be hard to find if you're not in USA or Japan.
For 2k I think it's fine, keeping in mind you'll probably pay another thousand for maintenance.

Driveshafts are fine it's less maintance than a chain.
