What was your experience owning a BMW ? Was it worth it ? Would you change to a Japanese car instead ?
>>26443179I have a pre lci e90 and it's been pretty solid
>>26443179e46 m3 and It has been very good to me besides diff needing to be redone. Wouldn't trade it for any jap scrap.
>>264431792005 525i, smoothest car I've ever driven so far. although that retarded clutch delay valve bmw uses on all their manuals is gay as fuck and makes the 1st to 2nd shift feel like ass.
>>26443179if you wanna daily it, go japanese. secondary fun car, bmw. ive owned a crosstrek and an es350 and honestly never had a problem with either of them. my saab 93 and e36 325i have never not had issues. first car was a 98 sentra. it had a fucked up trans but it was pretty cheap to repair.
I like my E60 but the person I bought it from fucked it up pretty bad so besides the normal BMW problems it's got too much to fix so I'm gonna sell it off to some other sucker and buy an old Lexus for like $500 to hold me over for a year or two so I can get my finances in order.
Love it
>>26443461Just remove it bro, it's not hard.
Had an M4 but sold it for a scatty chally de wally 6 speednever going back
>>26443685I'll do it when I replace the clutch this month.
>>26443179I've owned every 5 series from E34 to F10 and also a few 3 series in that time too. What's funny is that the most unreliable of the lot was an E39, that thing just never worked right and no matter what I tried, it could just never work. I love the looks and driving feel of the E39 but I'm not sure I'd buy one again considering how much of a pain it was. That was also quite a few years ago at this point, so any E39 I got now would be older and more abused probably. As for all the others, they were incredibly solid. My E34 with the M30 never had a single breakdown or unusual issue, all I did was the VC gasket and new shocks and that was it for my time with it.
Had an E46. Decent car for the price but it chugged oil like a motherfucker.
>>26443179I got an N47 E91. No problems so far (120kk -> 190kk), but I am always afraid that my timing chain is gonna snap someday. >Would you change to a Japanese car instead? They don't make any good diesels and spare parts are more expensive here (yurop). I use them as weekend cars. What I have seen so far my BMWs are less worrying to me than my nipboxes.
Can any anons in here chime on buying new vs used? There is a larger amount of depreciation when buying new, of course, but is that made up in the longer "honeymoon" phase of having a warranty and service contract on a new vehicle? Also, you know if you're buying for the fun and performance do you really want some other faggots sloppy seconds?
Would love an e30 or 1 series BMW
Been driving a n52 e90 325xi for 8 years now. Never had any major problems. Replaced starter, hood struts and coolant hose, nothing serious. Meanwhile my friend's newer n54 e90 kept breaking till he sold it and another friend's n54 manual e92 kept going into limp mode from casual highway driving.
It’s been chill. Nothing but the expected maintenance. and I already have a jap truck >>26445397New cars are shit.
>>26445473Forgot to answer the question. I will probably find a toyoda/lexus barge as my next car but I do like the idea of getting an e90 M3 cause I enjoy the styling
>>26445498>New cars are shit.are you just coping because you can't afford it, or do you have specific things you dislike?
>>26445512Electric power steering, driving Nannies, less wrench friendly, manufactured during supply chain issues and by people who are more checked out than ever, blah blah blah. Every new car is basically the same. Even a family hauler suv is fast now. I’m going to keep buying old cars and you can keep claiming lolpoor all you’d like but know that’s just your form of cope
>>26445530lotta words for just saying you can't afford.
>>26443179ive got an e82 135i and I daily it. Also i park it outside like a retard and beat the shit out of it. still runs p good despite this
>>26443179Maintenance is a bit rough but it's definitely the best of the best. Fuck Lexus BTW, I'm 6"6 and those Japanese cars are too goddamn tinyEven if you find a good indie, shit is just so damn expensive! I'm still blown away at how motor mounts last "5-7 years" and cost like $2k to replace (x5 diesel)
>>26443179>What was your experience owning a BMW ? Was it worth it ? Would you change to a Japanese car instead ?i like it. of course, parts are expensive, and some of them need retarded maintenance, but the experience is great
Never had an issue with BMWs, never got stranded, never broke my wallet owning one.I went from American cars to japanese and from them to BMWs, used to think they're all poorly engineered overpriced unreliable garbage till I got my first BMW.That one opened my eyes and I fell 7n love with them, could never even imagine going back to unreliable japscrap or amerishit.
>>26445397Being the second owner is just as good as new since it'll still be like new but a lot cheaper. Getting a new car off the lot is retarded since no matter the make, it loses a minimum of 10k the moment it leaves the lot.
>>26443179>experience owning a BMWRotting rubber and brittle plastics. Everything made out of those falls apart. It's never ending battle.
>>26447032LOLhave you seen how most people treat their cars?they also fart into the seat and shitI can't think of anything more cucked
>>26447041>scotty has entered the chat
i daily my e92 m3 6mt it chugs gas and leaks oil (valve cover gasket. gonna fix it soon) but is a blast to drive and handles unbelievably only thing i want to change is the exhaust it’s currently too loud at almost all RPM ranges and i hate attention. my advice is spend the extra on a well taken care of M car. lots of these issues you hear about stem from shitbox non-M bmws that are made to break. buy a car with motorsport derived integrity and it won’t have those shitbox problems that normal traffic cars have
Many young men fall for the 10y+ shitbucket bimmer trap.
>>26445530Electric power steering is based from a wrenchers perspective or do you like replacing power steering pumps and hoses? Not to mention hydraulic steering is ass on most cars.
>>26448707the bmw pictured is a shitbox 330ci. get an M do the preventative maintence and never worry about this shit ever. also get your money up and dont be a broke bitch and you can afford to enjoy the car you want
>>26448624Youre saying M cars are more reliable?
>>26448707>young person with no money buys a car that is suspiciously cheap and it turns out to be poorly treat and unmaintained turdShocking.
>>26448707only retards buy 10 year old cars. 20 year old cars are cheaper
>>264431792010 328i awd, been a good car to me over all i got it used and probably put like 10k into it over 10 years to keep it running nice
>>26448707the thing is they probably have no problems mechanically, its prob just sensors that have gone and are showing faulty errors
>>26449873>bought an E39>shitload of warning lights on it and codes>all of them turned out to be sensors>replaced sensors, cleared codes and car was fineI probably got lucky with it but it was funny how it was passed off as a broken mess and just needed some basic sensors.
>>26449874more 'dubyas for the rest of us
>>26449874yeah you change the brake pads and if you dont change the sensor you get a light, if you change the head lights from halogen to xenon without the right wiring jump or adapter thing you get a light, if you dont recalibrate the engine after changing the gasket youll get inconsistent rpms and misfires etc and a check engine lightthese cars are all sensors and programming after the e30swhich is why im gonna buy an e30 convertible
>>26449885>convertiblegod rest your soul
>>26449887i have a sedan i want a little spice and its a manual soft top so im not worried about it fucking up
>>26449885> if you change the head lights from halogen to xenon without the right wiring jump or adapter thing you get a lightI figured it would just be as simple as replacing/coding the LKM module and it'd all be fine.
>>26449901You just code out the bulb check in the light module.
>>26445535Cope faggot
>>26443673Vroom VROOM!
>>26449977N52 right?
>>26448714You've never driven an e46/e90Electric racks can never replicate that road connection so intensely
>>26443179BMW got me young and I've basically never driven anything since. E30s, E34s, E39s, E46s, E90sMy 335i is about the most new I want to go and the design architecture between the newer more modern Bimmers have not advanced that much despite the fancier tech so like 90% of the new features that you'd actually want can be retrofitted in some capacity to my e90. Even things you'd never think about like 5-Series soft close doors, rear comfort access handles, Extended Bluetooth combox with 4G connectivity, etcNewer Bimmers are just a bigger, more bloaty car, with a fresh coat of paint. I'm honestly good on anything younger than 2010Hate electric steeringHate digital clustersHate digital dashesSimple as
>>26450000>BMW got me young and I've basically never driven anything since. E30s, E34s, E39s, E46s, E90sBased, same here. It was mostly because of Top Gear since it was massive in the 2000s.
>check engine light constantly on for 3 years>went away a month ago on it's own and hasn't come back
how are the 5 series E39's. Are they mechanically alright?>t. No clue first car buyer
>>26450029Depends on the engine. My advice would be to find a 525i or 530i with the M54, avoid the M52 engines.
>>26443179Bought a 4 cyl f30, do not recommend. Was okay until it wasn't, but I was always aware that I didn't have the six cylinder. I was actually okay with the engine seizing at 114k miles until I realized the electronics are sufficiently engineered by people that hate you that engine swaps on nu-bimmers basically can't happen unless you replace pretty much every module in the car.Idk if I'd go jap at this point, anything with a decent sized engine strikes me as too pricey for what it is. My 'murican cars have always been good to me so I'm probably gonna end up setting aside my ego and getting a mustang. My truck has a 5.0 that's still going strong at 240k with lots of towing, so...
>>26450058>4cyl F30My man, everyone knows to never ever buy a 4cyl BMW.
>>26450041nah M52s are better
>>26450088Mine was a hunk of unreliable shit and I was told constantly by other mechanics that it was a bad choice, so idk man. I only ever see people praise the 525 or 530, never anything that had the M52.
>>26450096m54 burn more oil than m52s and the electronic throttle is laggydrove my buddy's m54 330i. revved it to 6k in 1st gear, went to shift to 2nd and the car redlined itself. kinda gay
>>26450000>Hate electric steering>Hate digital clusters>Hate digital dashesMy favorite part of /o/ is that they'll hate on stuff that's objectively an upgrade while ignoring all the actual digital problems.
>>26450141ugly looks and disconnected control are an upgrade? nigger you are gay
>>26450148;Digital clusters are literally more accurate than analog ones and if the electronic steering is any good it won't feel disconnected, at least in any kind of sport mode.
>>26450151oh the gauges are more accurate, sure let me just pay 6 thousand dollars for a car then
>>26449987N54, Twin air intake
>>26443179i bought an e46 330ci back in september off some old bloke who had a stroke and couldn't drive it anymore.had a lot of miles so it needed some TLC, mostly cosmetic. that being said the clutch needed replacing and the suspension shit itself recently but i budgeted for that and more so it's whatever. overall its been very good and i feel special owning and driving it. mostly i'm just glad it doesn't have any fucking rust LMAO
>>26447032i would generally agree but the past few years flipped this concept on its head. used to be able to get a 2 year-old, 20k mile or less car for like 2/3 the cost of a new model. today, not so much. comparable used models with <20k miles cost almost as much as new. plenty of cases where people got more money trading in than what they paid for the car new, especially truggs. dealers know most car buyers are antsy to get a car and want to pull the trigger quick. with new supply being as shit as it is, many people who were looking for new don't want to wait for a car to arrive, so they end up going with something near-new that's ready to go. we're living in a fucked reality where you can wait 6 months and pay 30% over MSRP for a new car, or buy a gently-used model for the actual MSRP of a new model.
I had 2 jap cars before before buying my 2 series. For a boring commutes jap cars are fine but if you want something that's actually fun then a bmw is almost unbeatable for the money. I've had no mechanical/electrical issues except for an O2 sensor, and right now my car is at 152,000km running like new.
>>26448714>hydraulic steering is ass on most carsElectric makes a wagon feel like a golf, it's fucking garbage.
When I sold my E46 I bought a honda civic, It was a bit plain to drive once revving the nuts off it wore off, I had it nearly a year before I got bored of it and sold it.
I have a 2018 340i M-sport with 6sp MT, so far I've put around 25k miles in it and it's been pretty good, haven't had any issues except a fucking rat nesting inside my engine compartment and eating some foam insulation, I had a WRX previously and compared to the BMW, it felt like a tractor. The 1st to 2nd gear shift was so rough, BMW's is so smooth. I feel like anybody could drive a BMW manual even if its their first time.
>>26450158Where do you live where you are paying less for a car than 6,000?
Are hose leaks fairly inexpensive to replace on an E60? I just have the single-turbo V8 2010 550i. Kinda wish I got the GT because then I would make 2 more miles to the gallon.
>>26448714Zoomer retard detected.Everything about this statement is wrong.
>>26450598>we're living in a fucked reality where you can wait 6 months and pay 30% over MSRP for a new car, or buy a gently-used model for the actual MSRP of a new model. That's cooling down in my country at least but yeah, for a time it was insane.
With how dogshit the prices are on trucks, I wouldn't mind a BMW Sedan, since I get a good amount of vroom
>>26448714my 96 camry had more steering feedback than the electric one in a 2007 corolla
>>26450151>Digital clusters are literally more accurate than analog onesbro they read off the same speed sensors
>>26451654ok retard. Tons of hydraulic systems are way over boosted so the steering is numb as fuck. It's not different than EPS systems.
>>26443179Owned E46 330ci 320d manualsE39 525tds 530i 528i manualsE60 530i auto 525d 530d manualsE90 330d manualThey're all solid cars, the E60s can be total bitches if they're not kept well, the auto 530i cost me like 10000€ in repairs first year. I'm on the E39 530i now, much easier to maintain.
>>26447402>they also fart into the seat and shitwhat do you do, pull over every time you have to fart?
>>26451993No, I will fart and shit on my seat.
>>26451996based
>>26447402Just so you know, cars are moved around before the customer even gets close to them. I've farted into the seats of many brand new cars before they've even had one owner or even been so much as looked at by a potential customer.
>>26452005>anon gets to fart into the seats of cars fresh from the factoryeven the first actual owner will be fart cucked
>>26443179>What was your experience owning a BMW ? Fantastic. ‘98 540i and ‘05 M3>Was it worth it ?Yes, still own the M3. >Would you change to a Japanese car instead Fuck no, I’m not a hideous incel wrenchlet weeb
>>26452005your IP has been recorded and the police are on their way
>>26452005this is why you don't buy american cars
>>26452012>implying I work for an American car companyNot that it matters anyway, I've worked for a lot of different manufacturers and it's just what happens. The cars don't get towed around the lots, people have to drive them and we do fart in them as a result.
>>26452008>fart cuckingKek.
>>26452019don't they have plastic all over them?
>>26452035That gets removed when it arrives at a dealership lot but we keep exterior plastics/wrappings on them since they'll sit on a backlot for a while in the rain and get birdshit on them sometimes. A lot of places are also using less plastic wrapping in the interior for environmental reasons but I will admit, it's so comfy peeling off the plastic on the brand new screens and off all the trim. For a while, almost literally everything in a brand new cars interior was covered in plastic just like a new smartphone.
>>26452043that's it, i'm never buying a new car again unless it comes in a sealed box with a tamper proof stickerenjoy going out of business!
>>26452051>literally cucked by another mans farts
>>26452051>unless it comes in a sealed box The way some makers seem to be going, it's possible.
>>26452043you just know if some filo ever got their hands on a car like this, 20 years later that car would still have all those protective stickers in varying states of decay. for whatever reason filo people love to keep the packaging/shipping stickers on new stuff
I've owned 2 e46's. Newest I'd personally go. I really like this facelift 330
>>26452463E90 and E60 are good, I hear mixed things about the E65/E66 though (for very obvious reasons). The F10 is also pretty decent assuming you can get an earlier build date with the N52 engine.

BMW = Based Motor Works.
E46 330xd, 6mt wagon and there's no japanese alternative. The M57 is pretty reliable too.I do have a corolla too though.
>>26447402what's the problem? can't you imagine the smell?
>>26443179>owning a BMWshit, stealerships are retarded and can't do anything properly>Was it worth it ?it had an s54, what do you think?Would you change to a Japanese car instead ?i did multiple times now
I love this car so much it's unreal
>>26454814>tfw cars will never have this pointed shark nose design ever again
>>26443179I had an E36 (318ti) as my first car. Then I got my E46 (330i) which I've had for like 10 years. Next weekend I'm actually going to go meet a guy who says he has freaking seven 645i and 650i for sale and I am probably going to pick one of those up. I love em but they're pieces of shit though. Constantly have to fix shit. Constant check engine. Wouldn't be worth it if I had to take it to a shop all the time. I just parts cannon it and I've kept it running this long.
>>26454998Why are you getting a 6 series then lolGod help it's a f chassis at least those 6ers are reliable
>>26443179I'm on my second. The treatment I got at the dealership trying to get them to honor a recall made me decide to never get one again. The new ones are hideous shit anyway. Gonna try Mercedes next. We have a jeep for off road and winters. Might get an old truck for fun if I can afford to. But BMW never again. And all the Japanese cars I've had were unreliable for some reason including a civic and a Camry
>>26448714you can't feel the road though
>>26455531you can't feel it in a fucking overboosted hydraulic system like most cars have.
