My NB's soft top glass has fallen out of the top on 3 sides, just attached at the bottom. Should I just cut it the rest of the way out for now until I can put a new top on it? Basically making it like a zippered top with the window out. The car is stored where rain isn't an issue.

Bolt on top left may have stretched. Shaft looks football shaped. Inspect that before it goes back on. If the threads are visually clean but won't cleanly thread in; it's probably stretched (fucked)

Looks like my old 1996 M edition I sold in L.A. in 2015; but I don't think it's the same car. Mine had a Chevy Lumina rear view mirror (for map lights), dark stitched "M edition" on the headrests, and some oxidation on the hood. I saw one of my for sale photos for that car pop up on here once. I took nice pics.

My NB's AC compressor is leaking here (green circle) under this little adapter plate to one of the hose fittings. Is there an o ring there or some kind of seal I can get? It's not the hose connection itself, it's under it.

Just tried to use AC for the first time this year, high pressure pipe cracked at some point. Debating just being a cheap ass and using one of those shitty refill kits after replacing the cracked pipe and desiccator. Should I not be a dumb and pay a shop to vacuum/recharge it the right way?

How much is a cleanest no rust NC or NB go for?
NB got hit by the memes so I imagine it is more than a NC.
I am sick of everything and fuck the car market so if I am being raped, I might as well enjoy the drive and daily one instead of being a /n/igger.
I could cash buy a new ND maybe half a year from now, but if a super clean nc is like $10k with like 80000 miles I might do that.
What are base ND's going for new, under $30000 or dealers marking them up like the ford faggots that keep contacting me if I want to buy a base model maverick at 20k above msrp.
>>
>>26425326
One of those shitty kits won't work if you're filling from empty if the system isn't under vacuum. You'll also want to pull vacuum on it to boil off moisture for at the bare minimum 30 minutes, preferably an hour any time the system's been opened, or it won't blow very cold.
>>
>>26425726
If you don't and it clogs you are going to get flooded floor pans and rust. There are two filters on each side to catch shit. How often you need to depends on your own environmental factors and if you park outside

Whelp, dealer quoted me 600ish, the equipment and parts to DIY correctly costs about 250, and considering I broke it once I'll probably break it again. Guess I'll spend tomorrow learning about AC servicing.
>>
>>26420718
>understeering into oncoming to own the bims
>>
>>26427399
I'd do the repair yourself and take it somewhere else like an independent/chain shop for the vacuum and recharge, that $600 sounds insane if it's just for the recharge, don't go to the dealer for that.
>>
>>26427453
Alternatively, you can vacuum and recharge at home with the cheapo $5 cans as well- I have the harbor freight vacuum pump that's about $80, an R134a manifold gauge set which was $40 on amazon, an $8 refrigerant can tap, and a $15 kitchen scale because refrigerant is charged by weight, not pressure, you have to weigh the can as you're charging to know when to stop adding refrigerant. Doesn't give you a way to evacuate the refrigerant though, that gets way pricier.
>>
>>26426667
Ah, hoped you had advice on how often one should do it
Guess I'll take a gander at it every year or so, mine sits in a garage for the winter
>>
>>26427453

600 was for the part replacement plus recharge, but the same dealer also quoted 180 for a $70 part so the quote is probably shit through and through.

>>26427466
Given there's a large crack on the high pressure side I'd guess the refrigerant is evacuated. Is there any part to the system I can't just unbolt and dump the contents of?

I'm planning to buy a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set, (in addition to the pipe that broke, oil+refrigerant and a desiccator)and the whole system is fairly accessible for removal/cleaning. What are the biggest hurdles to DIYing?

>>26420969
All coastal socal rooks the same.
Could be a back road in the foothills of Big Sur or a canyon in San Diego. Same stupid grubby bushes and brown grass grows everywhere it doesn't rain.
>>
>>26427544
Quick test to make sure it's empty is to take a tiny screwdriver and press down on the low side port's Schrader valve for just a second to see if you get any hiss. Biggest hurdle to DIY is cost of entry for all the tools I mentioned really, maybe getting documentation for refrigerant capacities (14-15.6oz for an ND) and PAG oil balancing. Just keep your hands clean while you touch sensitive areas (o rings, flanges they seal on, etc) and lube said o rings with pag oil before you assemble it. You also need to add PAG 100 oil to the system when you replace a hose, generally it's 1oz per hose replaced or if it ruptured and released all the refrigerant at once, 2oz. If you flush/clean the system you'll need to add the full system capacity of PAG oil, which for an ND is 4 to 4.7oz.
>>
Any Nd owners installed a catch can? Planning to either get a 2nd hand nd2 or order new but I want it to be my forever car so will do mods to keep it going and pristine for as long as I can

Check the soft top for wear, make sure the interior liner is securely connected to the exterior above the rear window. Make sure the AC works. That's really it, they ironed out the transmission kinks and the majority of the car is very reliable.

I'm moving out in a few months, where's the best place to live in the US for someone who wants to drive recreationally, ideally a Miata or something similar? Is it CA, CO, NC or somewhere else? I can do like 2k/mo rent while I look for a house, so CA is probably out.
>>
>>26436785
Any of the 4 corner states, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, or Utah.
>>
>>26436897
I looked at AZ but it seems like a desert hellscape and has some of the hottest temperatures on record in the US, not really a fan. Utah seems to have a pretty serious mormon infestation.
I'm probably going to end up in CO, a lot of the "best roads to drive on" seem to show up in CA, CO, NC/VA and a few in WA. Pikes Peak is in CO too.
>>
>>26436785
Honestly I think TN/NC or similar with a garage is some of the best. Appalachian twisties have hazardous blindspots and deer but you can always find a few good corners at least, or scout on the drive out and only drive hard when driving back on known roads. For some reason, good rust free cars come from Oregon, too, because they don't salt their roads, but you don't want to deal with that winter. Southern California with a convertible is as nice as it looks but the politics are so very bad. The problem is wherever you go that salt won't kill your car, the harsher UV light will. Garage both at home and at work if at all possible and your car will last forever and look brand new.
>>
>>26437023
If you go with CO and your car is NA you're going to have noticeable power loss from elevation
>>
>>26437023
>I looked at AZ but it seems like a desert hellscape and has some of the hottest temperatures on record in the US, not really a fan.

fellas im having an issue. i tried sitting in a 99' today to see if i wanted to buy one and finally have a car i can have fun with, the problem however was, even as a bigger guy, i fit in the car itself, however, my feet where another story.

i wear 15 double wides, and my left foot had nowhere to go except to hover above the clutch which got old pretty quick, that and my right foot would get stuck behind the break if I pushed the throttle down too far.

do the automatic's have better pedal spacing? I figure at worst, if there's no clutch, I should be able to detach the break pedal pad, fab up a bracket to move it over, give my right foot more space, but then im worried my left food will still need to sit behind the brake to be comfortable.

anyone else got any ideas? i provide one lust provoking image as payment.

I've test drove one an ND2a bit ago and loved it, but I'm on the tall end of 6'1, fit fine leg room wise thanks to telescoping wheel, but it was a soft top and was down.
