Why did the 95 Corvettes make like 30 more hp (on paper anyways,) compared to the LT1s in Camaros and Firebirds? I think I read once it's all because it has a less restrictive exhaust system.

I have a custom Y pipe on my firebird and removed the cat, surely it'd be on par with the corvette, no? Assuming it wasn't something else different about the engine that is.

Only the manual LT4s made that extra power. The autos still got the plain 'ol LT1 with 300hp.

Nah Google says the same year same engine makes more HP.

Breh, I've googled it. Everywhere I'm seeing the corvette has a good 15 or more horsepower. Looks like i mightve found answers

Again, the difference is the auto LT1 vs the manual LT4.

Well then
Apologies for being retarded
I am seeing that the firebird is rated at 275hp whereas the auto corvette is 300, though, on lots of sites. Never knew the manual was THAT much better.

I need to read on what bolt ons to buy. My engine's basically stock besides aftermarket air intake and the exhaust. Have a set of 4.10s in it though and man it flies. But I really want it to be blow my balls off fast. Thing is I'm both a wrenchlet and a brainlet. It's the first car I've ever put any money into that I didn't have to. So I dunno where to start.
>>
>>26107810
Do you specifically want NA? Just throw a supercharger in that based sniff machine
>>
>>26107810
'93-'95 f-body LT1s were 275hp, supposedly '96-'97 fbody LT1s were 285hp but they didn't test any faster. If you already have an intake and exhaust the next thing I'd get is long tube headers personally. Is your Formula M6 or A4?
>>
>>26107817
I actually like the idea of a supercharger but I just don't have the money, won't for a good while. Wouldn't wanna run much boost, I want something really reliable. It's my daily actually. Great in snow huehuehue.
>>26107836
I actually talked to 2 mechanics around me (northern IL) and they both said long tube headers won't fit without scraping the ground or some shit. My car is a based manual.
>>
>>26107891
Your car looks like it's at stock ride height though?
>>
>>26107930
No actually. Been stiffened and very slightly lowered by its previous owner. By how much I can't say, but I've never had issues going over bumps and whatnot.
>>
>>26107965
If it's just "slightly lowered" you shouldn't have any problems. Usually people that are slammed scrape the x-pipe if it's poorly adjust and not the headers themselves anyway. But yeah, LTs, and 1.6 rockers to go with your intake and exhaust and you'd be looking at around 280-290whp depending on how healthy your motor is. With your 4.10s your next worry is blowing up the 10bolt.
>>
>>26108036
>mfw I sold the pacesetter long tube headers I bought for the car a year ago because the mechanics told me it just won't fit without cutting up the car
1.6 roller rocker arms and headers would only put me at 290hp? That's kinda sad honestly. Fun car as is and I'm sure an extra 20 ish horsepower would be great but unless it makes as big a difference as the new gearing, meh. Maybe I will save up for a supercharger.
>blowing up the 10bolt
I don't launch the car so I'd think I'm good. I got the 410s put in just weeks ago and since I've only launched it once. Just doesn't do it for me like accelerating out of nowhere starting at 20mph or so. Or drifting. Which I really only do if it's wet out.
>>
>>26108068
>would only put me at 290hp
I'm talking 290whp. The W meaning at the wheels(aka wheel horse power). That's 340hp-360hp at the flywheel where cars are normally rated. Considering a stock LT1 puts down around 240whp that's not bad at all IMO for a couple simple mods. Also, if you don't go too sticky on the tire you can make a 10 bolt last. The thing that really kills them is sticky tires and launching, spinning ain't winning but it'll save your tiny axle.
>>
>>26108182
Oh I thought you meant the engine would only make 290 jej
This is gonna sound like a VERY asinine question, what are the roller rocker arms and why do I never hear of them in any other cars? Most of the time it seems the advice to make a car faster is to get a different cam. What if I got new roller rockers and a cam? What'd the price be like for installation?
>>
Quick little jewgle search and reading through some forums tells me a performance cam>performance roller rockers. Mainly because simplicity of installation and cams make the power available all across the rpm range.

LT1 thread?
Wen did you last flush your coolant? Don't forget to remove those knock sensors..
>>
>>26107395
dyno it and report back
>>
>>26108223
Spend a lot of time reading about cams, compare various cams based on your existing/planned mods and don't forget to correct for altitude if someone is posting from say, Colorado. Also if you're changing cam anyway, might as well install roller rockers while you're in there. There's a lot of information out there on Fbodys, good luck
>>
>>26108229
Not sure I ever have honestly
>>26108236
Isn't that very expensive and only really worth doing *after* engine mods?
>>26108340
Will do fren. Thanks for all the advice.

This car only has 76,000mi and I think nobody has really flushed it until I did. There was a ton of sand, rust and debris. I'm gonna install an inline coolant filter designed for a 6.0 powerstroke so the heatercore doesn't clog
>>
>>26108223
How is it easier to have to remove not on the rockers, but the pushrods, accessories, timing cover e.t.c. to do a cam swap?
>>26108410
>Isn't that very expensive and only really worth doing *after* engine mods?
3 runs is usually like $100 and it's better to have before and after numbers to compare.
>>
>>26107395
Probably the same reason why a modern Camaro doesn't make as much power as a C7... It doesn't make sense to have a budget model making more power than your flagship model even if they have the same engine.
>>
>>26107395
Because the Corvette has to have the bigger numbers.
That simple.

C5 Corvette base: 350HP rating
LS1 Camaro:305 horsepower.
Both the exact same engine.
Camaros easily put down 300rwhp in those years.
But MUH 305Hp lel.

>>26108423
Jesus
I'm due for an oil change so I'll probably have it done then too.
>>26108425
No clue if it actually is easier. Just what I've read. Also, the cheapest dyno shop near me quoted like 350 if I remember right, but thats with a tune.
>>26108428
Fair
>>
>>26108229
why remove the knock sensors? ive been wondering about knock control on my na b230 build
>>
>>26109219
Oh, it's just how you drain the rest of the coolant. It's super annoying cause the stream hits the engine crossmember and goes everywhere, and you have to do one on each side of the block. Also the sensors can get rusted in place. I did this like 8 fukkin times
>>

oh lol
