Neither. Buy a decent driver off of Parts Express and have somebody build a box for you.

>>25756572>>25756574don't buy kicker. I've had to replace them in 2 separate cars of mine. Good equipment does not cost that much more and won't sound like absolute dogshit
>>25756572Buy a Sundown X if you’re going with a small single sub for a trunk. Trust me bro. Build everything else around the Sundown
>>25756584>implying I can hear either of those over my fresh Alpine™ system>>25756588Calm down dubman.
get a good full-range box and fuckoff with subs
>crossover boxes and tweetersFuck I want to upgrade the speakers in my Si but this already sounds like a pain.
For what purpose?
>>25756572>listening to coon tunes
>>25757283>Implying I listen to nigger musicIt's pure Techno for me. You dumb newfaggot
>>25757382House/synth/techno etc... all benefit greatly from some added base. The single 10" should do it depending on the vehicle you've got. It's a downfiring model so it's designed to be pointed at the floor. Personally I don't like those, but they're good if they're going under a seat. Make sure you're running a big enough power wire to the amp and that the amp can handle the sub (that's a relatively small single sub unit so it's not a huge issue). Always use a wire wheel to clean the paint off your ground before grounding.
>>25756609>buy muh hekkin SPL distortion machineno
>>25757283even good 6x9 speakers drop off around 70-45hz. it's worth having something to fill in that range, even if you want to listen to it with a flat EQ

>>25756689If you can't change door speakers on a civic then you're the biggest wrenchlet in existence
>>25756572I did a 12 in. Panasonic sub in a custom ported box from my flea market when I was a teenager in my civic. With the wiring, cheapo amp(that I later replaced), and the install I paid like 360 or some shit close to that because I was very broke. I was thumping for years and eventually took the right advice>>25756577>>25756578and get good Indoor and tweeters and rear deck or rear door speakers. Replacing everything with Alpine is what I did and really enjoyed that car for a long time.
>>25756689>>25757606absolutely. like bro if you can't/dont want to do that you need to get some motivation because that's pathetic
>>25757606Wiring in crossover amps, mounting them in a good spot and drilling your door card for the tweeter is a bit more involved than a simple speaker swap.
I'm confused, to be hones I want to put it behind the rear seat
>>25757615It really isn't though
A good set of IEMs costs less than a single speaker, and you'll protect your hearing by not having to crank the volume to hear over the road noise in your shitbox.>B-but muh weewoos! Dats agints da lawww! You won't be able to hear emergency vehicles anyway with your ghettoblaster 9000™ cranked to 11, faggot.
>>25757591In a word, based.
>>25756572>Hello br/o/s, which one should I buy?Do you really want that kicker in the OP photo? That is the ultra-stiff air-moving kicker cone NOT FOR FIDELITY but to move air for that type of bass that makes other people's cars shake. Kicker makes high-fidelity bass speakers, but that one in OP's picture is not for audio fidelity. That speaker is for showing off how much you can make all the other cars on the road shake from your bass.
>>25757869>I want to put it behind the rear seat
>>25756572The second one. Or find a jl audio box custom for your vehicle. >>25756689Takes a day or so to do it right. Bought some focal separates, dynamat and an amp, took about a day.
When do you need a dual battery setup? How high of an output alternator is need for a decent sound system? I think my alternator puts out 95 amps, but I also have an electric fan setup that has a pretty big draw. .
>>25760036Around 1000w RMS
>>25756689do not buy infinity. they cant handle power whatsoever, they start making this crumbling noise once any distortion is present.>do not buy infinity>do not buy JBL>do not support harmon kardon past 2006
>>25760039Is that just at the amp rms, or is that accumulative throughout all the speakers? ie. do you add up the wattage of all the speakers to get that 1000w rms vs "only" 1000w rms amp. I only now looked up what that means (root mean square-safe audio level)
>>25756572this is why i come to /o/.
>>25760056I ran my 900rms system off a 63 amp alternator for probably 5 years in my truck. Sure I couldn't run lights wipers and the heater with it at full tilt if I wasn't cruising, but it worked fine. Rarely got it below 12v if I wasn't trying, but for a 41 year old truck it works. Of course this is with properly sized OFC wire and soldered/crimped connections, and proper grounds.
>>25760061thanks good to know. and thats oxygen free copper wire, correct?
>>25756572I learned in my single cab f-150 I didn't need 1500w rms sub and amp in a big ported box.Found I just want 500-1000w in a sealed box so it plays more evenly and has a faster response. It was fun and easy so I enjoyed the box making process.
>>25756572>should I buy a 2-ohm or 4-ohm sub gaizhoo boy
>>25760036>When do you need a dual battery setup? How high of an output alternator is need for a decent sound system? The various moments where the peak current drawn is greater than your two alternators can provide is why you have two or more batteries to handle the deep current draws. A lot of people have a bank of batteries and some capacitors to handle the peak inrush demands of deep bass notes. That's because the alternators aren't able to supply enough current on their own, but they do recharge the batteries in between the louder audio segments you're running thru your many large speakers. Another charge controller is necessary for your multiple alternators.
>>25760036>but I also have an electric fan setup that has a pretty big draw. .You will be running your A/C to keep the interior of the car cool because those amplifiers put out a lot of heat. It's why with audio competition cars, they will have a separate cooling system duct so that the amplifiers and hidden electronics and the speakers themselves can get enough cooling to prevent overheating. All of this extra infrastructure means you will need the ability to provide deep current draws along with proper wiring skills. You'll install disconnects as well to reduce the chance of shorts.
anyone who puts aftermarket speakers in their car share your playlist
>>25760036>How high of an output alternator is need for a decent sound system?Depends on how many thousands of watts of power you are booming out with your speaker set up.

>>25760051I had 2 infinity 12s and a pawn shop earthquake amp that was like 4 feet long in high school and that shit pounded harder than anything
>>25760433>6,000 WATTSYou'll need to gang up a bunch of alternators and batteries. This picture shows a whole bunch of batteries. You have to be careful about acidic battery vapors.>>25760443>Only reason I dont have them is the shop refused to put them in my Fiesta. The reputable shops familiar with power audio would also refuse to install it until you replaced your windows with customized glass that won't break. This is why people install in transit vans. They can make a chamber strong enough to contain and isolate the force so that it doesn't destroy the rest of the car. There are sad cases of people who didn't construct enclosures and allowed the car body to be the enclosure. In some cases, the paint vibrates off of various seams in the car.
>>25760445>However, JL Audio, Rocksford and Morel offer good stuff too.Not MTX???
>>25760452>There are sad cases of people who didn't construct enclosures and allowed the car body to be the enclosure. In some cases, the paint vibrates off of various seams in the car.I was going for that but>>25760452>reputable shops familiar with power audiothey are indeed reputable. They even refused to put two Morel 12 inch 1000 wat rms in. Said they could only do one. I just assumed my dreams of duel subs combing for at least 2000 watts wouldnt be aloud to happen regardless of brand.. Also implied it be easier to just do two 300 wat subs with ported enclosures and that it would be good enough.whatever.
>>25757606I'd rather fuck with a timing belt job again than dick around with custom mounting points for the crossover and jimmying in the speakers.
>>25760443>Claimed they would HAVE to rip out the rear seats.
>>25760458>I just assumed my dreams of duel subs combing for at least 2000 watts wouldnt be aloud to happenYou'd have to install enough alternators to keep your battery bank charged up. The DC pulses comint out of the rectifier blocks is evened out by the sheer number of batteries.
>>25760461no rear seats. but it does looks cool.
>>25760467The other issue they brought up was that if its a daily, it could catch fire....reputable. The guys in the next down over wouldnt have given a fuck and Id be a bus rider in debt. But ti would have been fun
>>25760470>downtown
.>>25760470>The other issue they brought up was that if its a daily, it could catch fire. There's so much power available, any kind of short would cause the metal work to melt. You'd probably have to install a bunch of interlock switches. You pull out the shorting bars to disconnect the outputs from various alternators and batteries when using as DD.
>>25760479Can there be more than five alternators? At some point, the load from the alternators is too much for the serpentine belt to provide.>>25760460>I'd rather fuck with a timing belt jobWith a lot of alternators, a chain drive is necessary.

>>25757593>DAILY REMINDER AMAZON PRETENDS THINGS ARE ON SALE LIKE OMG -12% OFF BUY BUY BUY>>WHEN IN REALITY IT IS NOT EVEN ON SALEI've seen prices go up roughly a month before a sale that drops the prices back to where they were before. Individual amazon marketplace sellers don't worry about the law, but items sold and fulfilled by amazon do have to worry about some states, like mine, which have laws about fake sales where the prices are marked up a week before the "sale" with the sale basically dropping the price back down to the "normal" price.
>>25761867man sometimes the prices change daily. it took me over a month to source the stuff for my home theatre because of seeing prices move so much. >one day receiver is 600>next day its 900>then its 700>cannot unsee 600>stalk the listing for a 45 days straight

>>25756572>>25756574These down firing subs are all right if you have them in the cabin of the car/truck. I have an L7 12" sub and that shit hits hard with a 800.1. >>25766551>got any recommendations?Subwoofers above 10" (ten inches) have cones that aren't stiff enough for their size to handle the volume of air that resists movement. So stick to 10 inches or a pair of 8 inches.
>>25762996>when i went bigger with a 12 the shit sounded muddy. That muddy sound from the 12-inch versus the crisp sound for the 10-inch is probably from the cone flexing under the much greater load of air that has to be moved.
