>but wtf why are bike engines so shit that 34k miles is considered alot, i also have never seen a bike with 100k miles while my car has 250k and still going strong

bike engines operate at higher rpm, and for longer, than car engines do.
more people commute in cars, almost no one commutes on a bike- year round. so cars will always have more miles on them

Riding is also a lot more taxing than driving.

With a car you're just sitting on a comfortable chair in an air conditioned environment listening to music.

On a bike you have to balance on the two wheels you're using your whole body to turn and control the vehicle you have to deal with winds and environmental concerns and temperature etc etc.

Hands down my favourite place to ride, but definitely not for pussies. It’s insane. I swear the locals don’t ever touch the brakes and squeeze through gaps that will leave you speechless, and all while dressed in a suit on their commute to work. Absolutely awesome place. Need to go back one day but it’s a good 3 days riding for me.

Reposting sine other thread reached max: Anyone have any experience with parking spots? I just found out I am not allowed to park my bike in its usual spot at my work for reasons unknown to me. Its where I see other bikes parked so I figured that was the best spot for it. Might I add that it is not in a full sized parking spot, not blocking any sidewalk or area with foot traffic. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there parking etiquette I'm failing to employ? Or is management overreaching.

Is 3k too much for a first bike (I’ve only ridden the 25 hours needed for the license on a CB500F). It’s a GSF650, 40k miles. I wanted to spend 2k, maybe on a CB500 or ER5 but at that price the bikes have tons of mechanical issues. I guess it’s the market but holy fuck some dudes are selling you pieces of junk for half the price of a new bike.
I like the look of the bike but I’m told it’s not the most fun bike around.

bought some wrenchan tools today /dbt/ but I forgot hex bits for the torque wrench, of course.

the first thing I want to do is install frame sliders, hopefully my engine doesn't fall down from the bike in the process (apparently even if you go one side at a time, it can be misaligned and then you need a jack to hold it in place, which i don't have)

Most people wave back or wave in general, if they don’t it’s probably just because they can’t for whatever reason
>>
>>25472169
I do. Surprisingly, it's the Ohio cruiser riders that wave the most, even to a "crock rocket", whereas anyone else on a naked or adventure bike or a ninja250/300 or similar never waves, almost like they're socially awkward or something. Cruiser riders don't come off as shy like that, quite the opposite in fact.

They're good in a lot of ways, but don't expect it to do things that it's not designed for.
Yes it can hit and maintain 100/110 km/hr, but it will literally kill your ass from vibrations. They run quite rough in general, with strong vibrations even just around town.
It's a very engaging bike, and can be ridden surprisingly fast on tight roads. You'll definitely know when you've hit its performance limit, which in my experience basically amounted to running out of gears when I was flinging it into corners with the throttle fully pegged in 6th gear. Around those kinds of roads it's an absolute ton of fun.
They're extremely simple and easy to work on, and are a great choice for learning how to maintain a bike without risking much. I wish it was a naked bike, because the fairings do nothing to protect against wind but make maintenance take longer than it should.
From stock, they actually are pretty difficult to ride, with extremely choppy fueling and zero low-end power forcing you to ride at 5-6k rpm. There's a simple mod to the carbs which makes it much smoother, but it still has unusually poor road manners for such a small bike.
Overall I recommend it, and at that price it's a good deal, but it has its limitations.
>>
>>25471900
what
i'm coming from the west and going to schriever in the east, i usually take 94, that's the windy 65 mph two-lane full of dump trucks
>>
>>25471346
Longevity on bikes is nearly always a matter of gross neglect not engine wear with the exception of dirt bikes and street bikes unmaintained by moronic owners.

Air-cooled top ends do wear sooner but simplicity and extreme ease of maintenance make up for it. It's typical for even an old Evo HD to go well over 100K miles on the stock top end. Most bikes die of neglect and complex bikes are parted out instead of repaired because labor costs are so high. (Do your own wrenching and that ceases to be a problem.) In over four decades continuous wrenching I've seen less than twenty street bike engines completely worn out by constant use vs. hundreds of neglected bikes in motorcycle salvages, for sale and of course brought to the shop where I worked. Top end jobs are fairly common but that's not a ruined engine, just periodic repair.

The most immortal bike is HD because unless you destroy one in a fire or crush it they're completely supported by the aftermarket to the last bolt and washer or suitable substitutes.
>>
>>25471924
this is where countersteering cucks get all crossed up. the key is moving your lower body across as quickly as possible and weighting the inside peg. it's pretty rare to change direction at full throttle on the track though, if you roll off for a second it'll flop over easier
>>
>>25472330
Idk, I like the smell of dirt/organic matter burning on exhaust pipes. Smells sweet, it's nice. This clearcut was a bit old so didn't smell like much.
I didn't hang around for long though, there was weird sounds coming from the bush and I was in peak 'squatch territory.
>>25472339
Where you at? Pretty common here for some of the mountain passes to only open a few months out of the year between the snow melting in July and flying again in October.
>>
>>25471381
Depends on my use case but I could certainly daily one since I daily'ed a Honda 250 without fuss. I see no need for an "only" motorcycle though and consider it wise to sample a variety over time.
>>
>>25472353
Did you find yours was unable to make smooth movements to do things like navigate around potholes at highway speeds? Instead of a nice curve around things it handles like a videogame. A tiny movement produces an immediate hard angle result. You could be shooting for a nice ( shape around a pothole but instead it ends up being a series of stiff angular movements if that makes sense
>>
>>25472399
No, it does exactly what I want it to. Obviously a small movement produces a quick result, but that's a good thing. I doubt it's any different to any other bikes.

>>25472382
This is completely wrong, by the way. Just countersteer.

YEAR MAKE AND MODEL GAWD DAMNIT!

If anyone can verify where the custom of saying nothing about something got traction please post.

A good 1997 is no problem. My newest is a 1994 FXR. By the 1990s bikes were decently reliable and refined, but SPECIFICS really matter because they're not all the same.

Also see make and if it exists, model-specific forums and read. You may find something useful.
>>
>>25471626
No BUT if you know nothing of torque "feel" (difficult to teach, I've trained many techs) buy a torque wrench and use it until you gain "feel". The main purpose of torques on small fasteners is not to break them (car mechanics break shit like mad on motorbikes) while their additional purpose on fastener "patterns" (cases, cylinder heads, oil pans) is "torque matching" to apply pressure evenly and not overload gaskets etc so they don't extrude or otherwise deform.

Every mechanic should at least skim this:

https://www.robins.af.mil/Portals/59/documents/technicalorders/32B14-3-1-101.pdf

The more professional your initial wrenching attempts are the better your results. One must learn the rules to bend them. It's all good fun and saves absurd money such that tools are a bargain.
>>
>>25471662
Horrible for nogtards whose caps lock key doesn't work. They don't belong on anything with a Bong pedigree unless they're riding a chav up the arse.
>>
>>25472411
my local track has a chicane with a left hander in between two important right handers. about half of riders change body position to the left and the other half stay on the right side. i stay to save energy but when you do the force required to lean the bike over is huge, you have no feel over the rear wheel traction. the first time i wasn't sure if i'd make the corner.
the whole "it's all countersteering" thing is a tool to stop noobs from running off a corner into a streetlight. riding fast is mostly lower body position

Your service manual will also have a torque table. Many can be found for free download via owners groups, fora and torrent searches. A basic Clymer/Haynes/Chilton service manual is vastly better than nothing but before buying ask which is best for YOUR bike because that varies.

ONE MILE PER HOUR MORE AND I'D GO BACK TO THE FUTURE HAHAHA! DID A WHOLE MEGUIAR'S KIT ON THE HOG SO NOT TO GET IT DAMAGED FROM THAT DAMNED WATER. HAD TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO CHECK FOR DAMAGE AND HAD HER DETAILED UP BY THE DEALER'S DEATILING SPECIALIST. PACO IS A GOOD GUY! CLEANS MY BABY UP REAL GOOD! Well I don't drink so you won't have to worry.

I've been riding a lot and bought a gun. I am fucking tired of these squirrels eating my roof and making a ton of noise while I try and sleep during the day. It's time they caught some subs.

Been needing a shitter .22 for training twinks anyways. Been lurking all the local pawnshops and the gun library hoping to find something nice and used but nothing, just absolute trash no matter where I went. For the first time in my life, I have bought a gun new, and it's a Henry potmetal piece of shit for 400 dollars as I do not want to bother buying something off GunBroker and waiting on it to ship while these squirrels go full Samuel Campos on my insulation and wiring.

At least I can cope and mald by saying only muh .22 chamber pressures who cares if the finish is fucking spray paint.

I would love a z900rs as well but I just don't plan on riding a lot in the streets and it would be such a waste. My health is also getting worse and worse those days with a lot of tragic things happening.
I impulsed bought 4 new bikes over the last 7 years and now I just don't want to do those kind of investments anymore since it just burns so much cash. With the symptoms I don't know how long I can keep on my working high pay high stress jobs. Fuck what did I even want to say

You should take off some time and just go touring with your bike anon. Drive to another country or if you live in america drive to the opposite coast. It will broaden your mind and make your problems seem not so big anymore. The world is a huge place. Leave it all behind anon, go for a ride.

don't shoot holes in your roof man, gas the little bastards to oblivion instead. You can get those groundhog poison smoke sticks at hardware stores; just add sulphur powder from a greenhouse to really empty out your attic :^)
Shitposting aside I keep squirrels and bats out of my attic with menthol extract water. Rodents hate mint. Buy the essential oil and mix it with water in a super soaker and douse your attic. Lasts about 2 years per application I find. Same solution is used on air filters and wiring harnesses for seasonal vehicles to keep barn mice out of em. Hope that helps bro

Bike is running like shit - power delivery at low revs is all over the place and it cuts out at idle. It had about a third of a tank of old (6~ months) fuel, so I topped it up with new, thinking that the new fuel and old fuel will mix and just run it through and hope for the best. Is this a reasonable approach and I just need to keep running it until I can refresh the tank again, or am I just prolonging the inevitable of having to get into the fuel lines and so on? It's an EFI bike; can old fuel affect injectors?

I've never had any issues doing what you described with any engine. For stuff that's just a month or two I don't add fuel stabilizer but anything longer and I do. Most engines can tolerate a bit of shit. As long as its not doing anything other than having power delivery issues I'd just finish the tank and then add a conditioner to clean up the mess in the lines that gas left. Did you not stabilize your fuel before storage?

It's time to get a new bike anon..

I am not doing that to a rental property without permission. I'd much rather just hang out in my backyard and pop the squirrels as they run along the gutters like they do every day with subs then tossing them in the trash.

Experience with guns, no experience with fumigation, I don't own this house, it's an easy decision for me to make.

Nah, winters are mild enough where I am that I can take it out on a nice enough day, so I don't bother with any winter storage routine - just didn't take it out this year for whatever reason

It's always time for a new bike, but that's no reason to sell the old bike. Unless you're poor or something?

You can easily add a windscreen. Harleys middle name is "customization".

For a second I thought this was some sort of weird graveyard diorama
