That looks comfy OP. One time I rode a bike with a tank mounted speedo it was nice. Clear open road above the chrome headlight. Sometimes I want a big twin or metric cruiser like that. Then I come back to reality and go ride.

Oh, but fuck sun in the eyes man. Shit sucks with a clear visor.

Hello fellow Yamaha enjoyer
>>
>>25045476
I will never buy a helmet without a drop-down tinted section again, ever. I normally rock a mirrored visor anyway, but that tinted backup is so nice when the day starts in the dark or rainy so you need to run the clear. I do love that pic, I should hope to be so lucky as to experience it IRL at least once this summer, reminds me of this particular shot at 6:04 or so.

You guys should watch all 3 of these, by the way. You don't need a giant tourer to travel, just a rack, some $30 saddle bags, and enough cash saved up to take the time off work.

Currently I ride clear since it's foggy/dark/not sunny right now, but back in summer I rode tinted and carried clear.

Might get auto-tinting glasses again which worked pretty good last time.

I have done some touring and it's pretty awesome. New roads, tent camping, waking up in the morning and just riding.
Man... need to do another trip soon.

Bros I'm looking at FZ1s and Bandit 1250s. I don't need quite so much power, but they're really cheap (4-5k USD) and look decent for touring and twisties. I've had a gixxer 750 before and loved everything about it other than the ergos. I want something bulletproof and comfy that I can bolt on a tall windscreen, cushy seat, highway pegs, bags, bar risers, etc that's still quick and fun to ride twisties. Zero need for dirt capability.

Look at these bad boys
https://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/mcy/d/stafford-yamaha-fz1/7426262917.html
https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/mcy/d/bridgeport-2009-yamaha-fz1/7424761895.html

The first one seems nicer and I like the 1st gen more except that it's carbureted. Bandits are harder to find and pigfat, though the additional torque is welcome.

Looking for anything I've missed. Powerful and understressed on the highway, ~500lbs or less, <6k USD, fuel injected is a plus
>>
>>25045640
2nd one looks fine what's wrong
>>
>>25045640
The carbonation makes it better. Just dont run corn fuel.
>>
>>25045640
They're both great bikes and definitely more comfy than a gixxer but depending on your height you might need to go even more upright to be truly comfy
>>
>>25045640
Both look good. First one looks like a better deal, but that depends on if are willing to work on carbs eventually. 2nd one has a muffler, efi, and maybe a better frame? Don't know too much about Fz1's but the 2nd gen looks like it has a better frame. Do some research. Both are good deals in today's market.

>>
>>25045652
It does look nice, but the first one specifically mentions some recent maintenance and fresh tires, plus it's cheaper.

>>25045657
I wish, I live in a gay area where the closest ethanol-free/high octane fuel stations are over an hour away.

>>25045658
I'm 6', 30" inseam. I recently sat on a KLR650 and I was like whoa momma this thing's SWEET. Even a v-strom felt a little cramped afterward. But the $/hp of these mid-2000s big bore UJMs is hard to resist. And I think I might be able to get away with highway pegs (and bar risers) because it seems like 2 different foot positions is more important than 1 comfy foot position.

>>25045662
Honestly I'd prefer to never mess with carbs, especially multiple. I've dealt with single-carb'd vehicles and landscaping equipment and it wasn't THAT much trouble, but I've found they never run as well as EFI motors. Shittier idle and throttle response don't @ me

From my brief research, the first gen is about 20lbs heavier but it's slightly larger and I've found more owners using them for touring and 2up than the 2nd gen.

ngmi I found the opposite but I blame multiple shitty maps and the EPA.

Anyways the 1st gen looks like a generic cradle frame while the 2nd really looks close to an old r1 frame. Both show their intent and build purpose. Your call on the pick then.

Maybe look on the forums and see how often/if ever you need to sync the carbs.
>>
>>25045732

Their mount sucks for the 2017+ R6, all the torque is put on one tank bolt, GPR at least has a bracket that goes on each side of the stem.

touring, 1st gen is a little more relaxed. 2nd gen a little more sporting. 1st gen also has a larger tank.
carbs>FI, except for norides who let bikes sit with corn in the bowls for long periods.
Ivan's has a very nice flash for the 2nd gen that improves the throttle immensely, among other things.

>>25045882
You know when people say a displacement figure they imagine a relatively narrow ballpark of power and that's what gives the number itself any meaning. Someone says liter bike, everyone thinks something that's at least 100HP, even if it's a twin. Someone says 650, everyone thinks something around 70HP, someone says 1200, everyone thinks 130 at least, and so on.

But with Harleys all that shit goes out the window "Yeah this here's the Hurley trowelhead, it's 90cubic inches and makes 50 ponies, burns 20 quarts of oil per feet per mile, yep no replacement for displacement"

Meanwhile any other similarly displaced bike is making 3-4 times that power. It's not impressive to ride a big Harley. They're not powerful, they're not fast, they're heavy but they're so low they're not even hard to keep upright, even if they fall they don't actually fall they just keel over

>>
>>25045916
When I see someone with a Super Duke I'm kinda impressed. Sure it could be just a rich squid with more money than sense but the fact remains that it's a monster bike that's hard to ride well so props to anyone who can manage that.

I'm not similarly impressed by Harleys despite the fact that almost all owners WANT you to be impressed by them. There's nothing challenging or difficult about riding a Harley, there's nothing admirable about having one. They're expensive sure but there's no shortage of rich dumb idiots who spend stupid money on their vehicles. A Harley is the equivalent of an SUV.

Depends on the terms. Liter bike is generally a 1+L sport bike so I agree. 650... is kind of ambiguous since they can be referencing a gs650 or ninja 650.
1200 could be reference sportster 1200(common) or bandit 1200.

Some cruisers have both cubic inches and liters in their name. Harley obviously stays CU since it's american. However metrics do this too. My suzuki s83 boulevard, or suzuki m109r. Yamaha goes with xv1700 or kawasaki does vulcan 2000. Honda has v65 as well.

I agree with you final statement. Most just like their bikes.

displacement still can give you a good perspective on torque. Generally hp at X rpm gives me a better perspective on general engine characteristics.

If it's a chain drive bike you should hear

that's about it. shaft drive you will probably only hear tranny since rear end is lubed unless you spin fast.

I tend to hear sprocket+chain the most on chain drive bikes. If you are worried you could start the bike and give her a listen.

the chain mostly. You should regularly check the chain slider and any rollers the bike may have and that your chain is not loose or too tight. However with the bike up you don't get the full idea of where the chain may actually drag when it's actually being ridden with the suspension compressed.

I can distinguish pretty much all other bikes and brands. Likewise other cruisers are fairly easy to tell apart. Indian for example has like 3 basic models and it's very clear to see which is what.

Harley is just a mismatch of model names, engine names, numbers and other things that make zero sense. The fuck is a lowrider. Though as the other anon said I've realised that these names are more or less trim levels for the same basic bikes.

I'm yuro so Harleys are not really that popular here. There's a lot of them going around sure but they're definitely not as popular as in the US. Harley dudes tend to be very dedicated to that one brand. Almost everyone else mostly goes through various brands throughout their lives. Jap and Euro bikes are the norm here obviously and they're not hard to tell apart.
>>
>>25046327
I went to Wales this summer and I couldn’t believe how many Harley dudes I met. It was actually the first time I saw a lowrider S in the wild besides my own. There is a reason those bikes half a cult following me guys get so into them. Hell, I’ve got 5 bikes and 3 of them are Harley’s.

You just got to spend some time on one and see what it’s like. Without doing that you’ll never get it. I used to ride a GSXR and scoffed at Harley. I know better now. There is a reason 50% of the bikes on the road in the states are Harley’s.

the people that see that it's worth it will always come around, they generally don't need to be advertised to with baby-helpers like automatic transmissions

uncomfy bikes are the worst long distance. In the beginning it's fine, then 300 miles later you are begging for death since your knee is in constant pain, your butt is in pain, or the ride stops being enjoyable.

no You either want a naked bike and add a fairing onto. Or you want an "adv"bike(not) that is actually a sport touring bike.

It sounds like you aren't into clip ons so OG sport tourers are out.

Get an adv bike if you want more touring/utility.
Get a naked and add a windscreen if you want more sporty/lightweight action.

Any motorcycle is gonna be quick enough to get you into potential trouble. A 250 has the smallest chance of that happening though, you won't loop it, small but efficient brakes so that when you panic stop, they won't really lock up an put you down etcetc.

It served me well for a number of years, also I mean cmon, that styling..
>>
>>25048188
Because they are using to cope with the fact they bought into reddit memes and wasted money on a 300
>>
>>25048106
>How dangerous are motorcycles really?
Less safe than driving a car, safer than flying light aircraft. It's more like flying a powered paraglider.
So, safer than base jumping, yes.
>>
>>25048111

Most of my friends/acquintances dropped their bike within the first year. A co-worker got rear-ended on the highway and died (smart guy - former muh-reen raider, database administrator at time of death). Then there are the statistics. I really want to ride, but it scares me as an "adult".

>safer than flying light aircraft

I thought muh Cessnas were safer than cars. Could be misremembering. Muh engine that can run without battery. Muh glide to field. Muh self-levelling. I took some lessons, but bike genuinely seems more fun (though obviously less impressive to normies, but who cares).

Oh, and I am trans btw, just, you know, if anyone cares.
>>
>>25048266
LOL no, commercial aircraft are far safer than driving, Cessnas et. al. are for people who are bored with living.
>>
>>25047825
I cant get a license until spring either, but im going to buy a motorcycle, gear, and insurance, and ride my motorcycle regardless.
>>
>>25048266
Good thing about dying on a highway is that the death will probably be instant and even if it's not you'll be too high on DMT to care

Gonna put dual sport tires on my Mt09 for aesthetics

Tfw if I put bigger tires on the gn it will be slower and use more gas and even force the transmission more

yup, I've always thought they looked cool even when I was a kid. Hopefully I can find a good deal on one.

I think that's probably best. I'm a very hesitant overthinker so I never like to do things before I have to unless there is some benefit to it. I envy your decisiveness

You can probably sell it for near what you paid for it, realize that you still won't have enough for a bigger bike, hang out on /dbt/ complaining about being a nobike.

How do you clean a naked bike? Do you spray all the ... innards with water too? It gets all muddy and dusty there, but it feels wrong spraying all that shit with water
>>
>>25048493
Keep trying

>>25048494
>How do you clean a naked bike?
Same as the others but you don't have to take the clothes off beforehand
>but it feels wrong spraying all that shit with water
Yeah use brake fluid instead that will clean more than just water
>>
>>25048437
Who do you get insurance through? I've been riding without either like an idiot.
>>
>>25048494
with water and cleaner and some brushes, wipes and towels
>>
>>25048352
I only rode mine for 1.5 months then got a 600. Would have made more sense to rent a 300. Is that even a thing?
>>
>>25048501
Cant get to the innards with my towel though. I think I need to invest in a air cleaner. That looks mad comfy anyways hate drying my bike down with towels
>>
>>25048508
a leafblower works as well

People are calling this road "Ohio's Dragons Trail" and stuff like that but it doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary. Is this really the best ride in Ohio? Why?
>>
>>25048508
Try those foam cleaners that spray on?
>>
>>25048498
I'm in the US, I'm using Formost (farmers insurance) as I am older and they also insure my wife's car, my house, etc. When I was younger, I used Progressive.
Call around, rates vary quite a bit from provider to provider.

I don't need to try, mocking you is so fucking easy it's effortless. KYS BR HIV+ monkey.
>>
>>25048511
No, the best ride in Ohio is the one that takes you out of Ohio.
>>
>>25048529
Hey, I'm okay with people staying out of Ohio, especially people from California and New York. Parts of the state are really nice though. Other parts are complete shitholes.

Why the fuck would an American buy a 300? They’re made for us Europeans who are restricted in terms of horsepower when for a while. Otherwise they’re just as expensive as bigger bikes but, well, less powerful. As the other anon said you can go slow on a bigger bike.
