Beautiful xv30 with showroom quality I saw today. Headlights look new, paint looks perfect
>>
>>25045895
It's weird. Old looks so nice. I bet they looked like NPC cars back in the day.
Sick of the crap we see everywhere now.
Maybe it's nostalgia.

ive always liked the front end of the xv30s, the xv40 fronts look fugly
>>
>>25046131
I agree! I own a 2006 xv30. They're fairly handsome.

Another thing, for some reason they ride exceptionally smooth and pillowy. Xv40s, 50s don't ride as well. Frankly the 50s ride is harsh and feels economy. Like a bigger Corolla.
The 30 ride almost like the ES300 sibling. I don't know what Toyota was thinking when they ruined the ride.
>>
>>25044012
it's easily the most overbuilt gen camry ever. a stupid amount of money was spent on r&d for it, and normally, manufacturers will pick a base model vehicle, then upscale that to a luxury variant, but the 3rd gen camry was downmarketed from the lexus es300, it's really a rebadged lexus. Reviews of the car at the time noted how well built it was for a family sedan.
>>
>>25046162
probably trying to shake off the bland reputation these things have. My dad got a 2018 V6, XV70. They're going for a sportier look, with 19 inch rims and stiffer suspension, which it kinda does have, but that's also why I'm keeping my XV10. We're never gonna see the overengineering like it or old mercs did. And I've swapped out the sway bar and shocks, the thing stays planted in the corners, even on fat sidewall tyres.
>>
>>25046171
That's why you see them every day even though it's been over 20 years. One of the best cars ever made.
Also, like I said the next gen was also a rebadged Lexus. They got rid of that the 6th gen.
>>
Camry? Sounds like a W-Body bur worse and gay
>>
>>25042814
But was it a good car?
>>
>>25046189
where i live it's the other way around, 4th gens are EVERYWHERE and it's almost always indians driving them kek. 4th gen was also when they started the cost cutting. It's a great car, and the interior is great, but you can definitely tell a difference in overall quality versus the 3rd gen.
Seeing a V6 3rd gen around my parts is like finding a unicorn. Seeing a V6 wagon is probably unobtanium. I still miss my wagon I totalled in 2019, it was probably the last running V6 in the entire city lol, would've loved to do a manual swap with that thing.
>>
>>25046180
Xv10s are legendary. That drivetrain, forget about it. Happy for you.

I'm hoping I can hold onto my 30 as long as I can like you.

You're right, we're never going to get that kind of metal and rubber put together like that. It's ridiculous.
You do have to pony up for the SUVs like the Highlander or the Lexus ES for the same kind of comfort and luxury. Sucks.

But the 70s are probably still the best sedans on the market reliability wise. Especially that v6.

What can I say, they're not paying me to advertise for them. I love my car. Doesn't give me any trouble.
>>
>>25046202
>GM

>>
Mine
>>
>>25046213
I personally think 6th gen onward, the cost cutting got really bad. Really shitty plastic.

It's weird, 7th gen is a 400k mile car easily but the interior is dogshit.

They've always been reliable and well built, barring some engine problems. 2AZ-FE burning oil like a mofo, etc etc.

But the interiors just got gradually worse. I don't know what to make of it.
>>
>>25046215
im just waiting for electric superchargers to become more mainstream, or at least supercapacitors to become cheaper and viable for e-superchargers. I know my engine can take 4-5 psi boost before knock starts to occur. But i cant be fucked doing all the plumbing for a regular turbo setup.
There used to be some engineer working for Pratt and Whitney who made those Phantom superchargers back in the mid 2000s, but he only really did it for fun and never intended to make it a business. I know someone who still has one of them in his camry, was a video on youtube of him comparing launches with the charger off and on. Only 4-5 psi of boost for about 1 min or something before the batteries needed recharging from the alternator, but didn't need to touch anything else.
>>
finish your car skoll
>>
>>25046226
it must've been a gradual change, probably just yota seeing how much they could cut until people started noticing. I've barely ever touched anything past XV10s, save for the XV70 my dad has, but from poking around at junkyards, the interiors didn't look as great as the XV10s, even though all had been sitting exposed to the elements in the yard for at least 15 years.
>>
Skoll and his East Cope buddies: the thread
>>
>>25046232
Might be worth it to get a traditional turbo done at a shop if you want to go that route. Might be a while for the E turbo and E supercharger kits to mature and become viable. Good luck though, I'll look out for the thread when you get it done
>>
>>25046243
That's kinda funny, because that's the opposite of what Kia/Hyundai did. They gouge and cost-cut the fuck out of the mechanical components, but then put all this effort into interior initial quality lol.

People don't care, they'll trade them in at 50-80k miles.

Modern Toyotas are still the most reliable, but the interiors are shockingly bad, especially the sedans and the cheaper CUVs. It's disappointing. It's a hard sell to the wife once you get married or something
>>
>>25046207
i think so. i don't know much about cars but it took all the punishment that i gave it and never broke down once in the three years that i owned it.
>>
>>25046335
That makes it a great car then. I’m sure it was considered a bland appliance when new, but compared to what we have now it really does look spectacular and is still probably easy to service, maintain, & repair.

Lots of interesting options these cars had, especially in Japan, where they were called the Scepter. On these you could get ultrasonic mirrors that buzzed the water off, and were power folding, and ac controls straight from a ls400

got bored one day and started looking at the parts catalogues for the scepter, it seems like they came with some funky air ionizer shit. no clue if it's an air purifier or something like that, never seen it in a car before. It could be something completely unrelated though; parts catalogues sometimes come up with oddball names that throw me off what they actually do.
>>
>>25050168
>pls tell me how to do, would love that on my own
You need to run a wire (a normal 10amp house wire is what I used, since it doesn't carry much current) from the cigarette lighter over to the heater relay, such that the heater relay is energised and feeds power to the blower motor when the key is turned to ACC.
Do NOT try to power the blower motor directly off the cigarette lighter, it will just blow your fuse and burn the wire. And even if it doesn't, it's still retarded because it will reduce the potential power output of your cigarette lighter if you're going to power shit off that outlet.
On a RHD camry (i'm in Australia) the heater relay is located behind the grey plastic cover on the far left side. I had trouble finding it at first. I think I took the entire fuse panel off, cut the appropriate wire and just used a crimp connector to splice the wire in. Same thing for the cigarette lighter end of the wire.
I've had this "mod" installed for about a year now, and it justwerks.

whoops, forgot to say thanks heaps for the help
looking at how the relay works in the wiring diagram, makes sense how the wire gets it running. exactly as you said, only the relay gets energised, but the blower motor itself still gets power via the 40A heater fuse

Based thread. My first car was an XV20 Camry LE. I had head gasket problems at 330k miles and didn't want to pull the engine to get the block milled flat, so I bought another one. This time an XLE V6 with 225k. I've been catching up on all the overdue maintenance like struts, tires, brakes, and gaskets over the past several months. Only thing left is the timing belt which I saw was old and cracked.

I really like the cars but I'm always bumping my knees on the dash and my head on the roof. I'd like something roomier. Does the XV10 have more head and knee room?

>>25046162
>>25046180
Are you sure the older ones don't just ride softer because the struts are blown and have no damping? Both of mine had very "pillowy" suspension when I got them, but I hated it. Instead of feeling a bump once, I would bounce 3 times. With new chink struts it's somewhat harsher but not bad, and much preferable to just feel the bump once and not deal with bounciness. I've ridden in 7th and 8th gen camrys and thought they rode rather smoothly.
>>
>>25049452
>power folding

How come this isn't a feature anymore?
>>
>>25052545
US roads are big enough that you generally don't need to fold mirrors of sedans. A lot of the new luxury trucks and SUVs have auto folding mirrors now though.

>>
>>25052599
6'. I can scoot my seat back and down but I don't find it comfortable. I don't like having to stretch my arms out to reach the wheel, so when I scoot forward enough to reach it my knees are too close to the dash. The wheel needs to be farther away from the dash. And I don't like having my knees bent up in front of me so I prefer to sit higher.

mine had blown shocks, they were the originals from when it rolled off the factory 26 years ago lel.
KYBs are apparently 10-15% stiffer than OEM to accommodate for wear and tear in other areas of the suspension. Since changing the shocks I feel a lot more bumps in the road, but it corners significantly better, and going over bumps no longer sounds like an old couple going at it on a creaky bed
>>
>>25054017
Press down on each end of the car and let go. If it bounces more than once, they're worn out and lost damping.
>>
>>25057040
i thought the bounce test doesnt work on macpherson struts? at least when i did my bounce tests technically they passed every time, even though they'd hit the bump stops and make so much creaking noise, in fact when i changed out my struts, the rear bump stops had at least 50% of their material missing when compared to a brand new oem part. The rears didnt even have any at all.
>>
>>25057040
>>25057062
oops i should clarify, creaking and hitting bump stops was during driving...not the bounce test
>>
>>25056069
Yeah they're good
>>
>>25057062
The test worked on my cars. The 20 year old original struts let it bounce up bigly, then it didn't when it had new struts. Maybe it is only obvious when they're totally shot though, and mildly worn still "passes".

What great cars. I had a 1996 with the 4 banger as my first car, sold it at 220k miles. Both my retarded sisters drove it before me and I distinctly remember them running it out of oil on at least two occasions before I replaced the oil pan gasket, never had any problems. The only other part that had to be replaced was the engine temperature sensor which was an easy fix. Wish I never sold it desu, it was so comfortable.
Also had a 2002 I4, a lot less comfy but still a really reliable car. I took it down some nasty forest roads and it never complained. Never had any problems other than a fucking squirrel chewing the wiring.

it's not bad, but man you'd think toyota would take into account school zone hours and days with their nav system.

Eeew, it doesn’t look like a Camry, one thing I’ve always loved about the Camry was that it always looked “dignified” it’s a bit bland looking because it’s not trying to be cool, it’s just reasonably good looking, good hate how modern Camrys look so cheap AND immature, we all know those grills and defuser are fake and are plastic painted black

I went with the 4. I'm glad I did, thousands less on price, great mpg which really helped on my recent cross-country tripand still gets up to 120 with room to spare.
I fucking love this car.

I spent months to buy halfdecent 3rd gen but 4th gens are literally lying around for joke money

I had to pay 9k polish coins (2,250$) for 3rd gen while 4th gen starts from 6k coins (1,500$)
