Ah yes, I am so happy that I was too cheap to take my car to the mechanic to replace that one part. All it took me was too buy the part myself, lay in the grass for hours getting eaten up by insects and cover my body in cancer causing sludge on my day off of work. I probably installed it correctly and will definitely not have any issues with the part failing because I'm not trained whatsoever for this and have only basic tools at my disposal that I also have to pay money for.
>>25025963I have a garage with an epoxy floor and I wear PPE because I'm confident in my masculinity. The mechanics for my car charge 250/hr even for "friendship rates" and they're never going to have the obsessive autistic focus that I do when doing repairs.

I will never again make the mistake of letting a shop do maintenance that I have the ability to do myself.
>>25027313... and what exactly is hard about building a simple tin garage?Just flatten & prep the ground, either hire someone to do concrete foundations or go full ghetto and just slap some 50x50 pavement tiles on top of random rocks and sand "foundation", order a tin garage, place it there, attach to foundation, done.

I have time to actually take care and meticulously check that everything is done right while actually enjoying what I'm doing instead of hating my life and the pressure of rushing to get to the next car in my backlog. Plus I can use the amount I saved in labor costs to actually buy the OEM/upgrade part I wanted instead of cutting corners with refurbished or no-name parts. And I'm lucky enough to have a beater so I don't stress out if something takes way longer than I thought it would. I help fix cars for family but I never charge them for it because it's my hobby. I'd hate to be a professional mechanic.

They pop the caps to peek in and pull dip sticks. How do you not know how mechanic shops work? Every shop from tires, oil, to autobody and full mechanic shops work this way but because you're either too young, poor, or rich to know how shops work and what happens when a radiator cap is left off, I gotta be lying? ok
>>25032586If I go in for tires, they change them in front of me in 10 minutes and I fucking leave.
My grandmother bought her 2014 jeep grand cherokee v6 to a Sears shop at the mall to do an oil change. They didn't put the o ring in its grooved place and instead had it on the threads right above it. So when they out the oil filter cap back on it ripped the rubber o ring with the threads. She came home and there was oil everywhere. She drove it down the road no realizing anything and it went into limp mode. I came over and she still had it running and I checked the oil pressure and it was like 3 psi. So we turned it off immediately. Sears denied it was them. The fucking p ring was shredded on the threads instead if the Grove made for it. How do you take a o ring off in that Grove and forget to put it back correctly absolutely retarded
I always try and watch mechanics. I once watched a retard attempt to put motor oil into my transfer case on my old zr2 blazer. I stopped him and he put the transmission fliud in it. They didn't even look it up and find out that it takes the blue GM transfercase fluid for automatic transfer case because it has an auto button. I had to figure that out later. I was young and didn't use the internet.

>>25033361Yeah, but at a dealership if they fuck up bad enough you can get them in trouble with the automaker and sooner or later you will be goodwilled a fix. The main reason you go to a dealership is also to keep the warranty intact as they might weasel out of coverage if the indie shop doesn't digitally record their service or leaves out some trivial detail like exactly what oil they used or something.Generally, dealership at least until warranty is up, then indie shop that specializes in your type of car afterwards. >>25035805nice freedoms you have there, enjoy your slavery.you cannot be this dumb?
>>25036141Yes, I have the freedoms to work any job I want at any rate of pay I agree to. I also have the freedom to save up my money, put in the hard work, and start a successful business. Your commie shitholes (USSR, Cuba, Venezuela) don't have these freedoms. In fact everyone in starving. Says a lot about you that you call freedom slavery and slavery freedom.
>>25025963Yes, I am, bow I have a functional 79's shitbox instead of a non functiinal lawn ornament, for <1500
>>25036171its okay to get btfo on internet, you are anonymous after all and tomorrow its all forgotten.>posted while getting paid 150% since im on overtime>life as a wagie is so comfy i never need to start my own business
>>25036256Enjoy being btfo'd in real life like yourself, trev. Don't forget to check back after your 21st birthday to let us know how your little communism thing is doing.Oh and your boss Mr Shekelstein wanted me to remind you to round up the next load of carts from the parking lot after your lunch break, they're starting to build up out there.
>>25035535It's still working, Anon... and that repair was done june of 2020, I am gonna flush the fluid this year and every 2 years so that it stays happy, old and used up fluids in cars eats the seals.
>>25036320>21stdamn how did you know? i celebrate 21 years as an employed worker now. current job since 2003.you guys never cease to amuse me, tell someone 40+ work weeks are fucked up and not claiming overtime for your hours is stupidly naive makes me a zoomer commie? when in reality im a tradie leftie anticommie antiunion soon-to-be-boomer. looks like someone else got a whole lot of growing up to do. if you dont make your stand and demand your rights you wont get shit irl. if you dont have any rights then you are fucked and you should consider doing something about it.
>>25034883 The owners are probably paying him as much as they can. I don't think trying to extort more money from a mom and pop shop is the right thing to do. If he doesn't like the job just quit and get a job a dealer.
>>25025963I'm completing an engine swap, doing bodywork on a different car, and going to be checking another for a bad head gasket all at the same time, because I enjoy fixing things and I'm not a cuck little manbaby afraid of trannies and liberal women yelling at me about toxic masculinity.
>>25029002>pay $825 in labour to have 3-4 mounts replacedHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHbuying a jack + jackstands + some basic tools is a one time investment of $500 at most
>>25029002>they only wanted $825 plus the $502 worth of parts I brought to them, it's actually worth not having to buy tools>825 when you could do it with a 40 dollar hobo fart jack, a log, and a 15 dollar walmart socket set
>>25025963>lay in the grass for hoursTry not being a poor retard
>>25029002For an 04 Accord? Duuuuuuuuude you got ripped off. I got an 06 Camry, this was 350 bucks in labor
>>25035369I used to be an ase certified mechanic and i fucking despised the hussle mentality that caused shit like this. god forbid i take an extra 10 minutes to make sure i didn't fuck anything up, no "CUSTOMER IS WAITING!!!! WE GOT 20 MORE CARS AFTER THIS ONE!!!"then you gotta juggle 10 other cars all waiting on parts so they just get shoved out of the shop in to the back parking lot, or you inherit some other jerkoff's job because they called in or went on vacation..
>>25026586>lift at a angle to get all the old oil out>implying I would do thatI barely give the oil enough time to run before I spin that sump plug back on. I am not getting paid to work like it's a piece of art, I get paid to push work through the door.>t. 15 years diesel tech
>Not having the space or the toolsWhat's YOUR excuse?
>>25038681There were 6 mounts for the trans and engine Anon, and this is a bullshit ass car that is really annoying despite being a 4 cylinder, the thing is like a damn Acura TL with Honda badging.
>>25026900Nah I have a real job, so I want to relax on my days off. You can slave away on my car wagie
>>25025970Because I'm, not a failure.>>25026003I have like a 30 year old bottle of this and it works great.>>25026088Glove pill is real.Only reasons to work on your own car:1. It's therapuetic and relaxing.2. I am going to take much more care doing everything correctly than some retard who didn't go to college.3. It's worth it money and time wise unless you are getting paid like 50+ an hour.
>>25040677>Only reasons to work on your own car:4. Most mechanics are such flakes it's more of a pain in the ass to take it in than to just fix it. "Oh sorry, we couldn't get to it today, maybe next week." "Oh we actually don't do this job even though we told you we did, you'll have to find a different shop" "The part was delayed, you'll have to wait a few more days without a car"
>>25040703>you'll have to wait a few more days without a carI'm wrenchlet and I've never seen that, the most I've waited was one day, and they were straight up about that from the get go.
>>25025963imagine driving a used out of warranty car and having to worry about shit like this. take the LEASE pill anons. i never worry about shit. for one, my leases haven't really ever broke but when they do, free tows and new loaner cars. they'll pick up and drop the damn car off if i want for free. pissing life away in auto mechanic and tire shops and paying for repairs is for the birds.
Every time I wrench my own car it ends up taking days even for fairly simple jobs and now that I have a job I just can't risk it. Gotta know your limits. I'm a technolo/g/y guy.
My brother is a self taught ag mechanic. Rebuilds trucks tractors and implements. Makes good money too. He doesn't have a building built yet cuz my father ursurped the money he set aside for the building. He charges 75 an hour if someone tries to get him to work on their stuff. He mostly just does his own. Bought all his snapons at auction.
>>25041895These guys have literally spent thousands of hours wrenching their 90's rusted out shitboxes because that's what men do
>>25029002>I had every trans and engine mount replaced on my car>and they only wanted $825 in laborso that's what? like $200 an hour lul
>>25044379I don't know, but it's cheaper than me fucking this car up and it not being drive-able anymore, I'll gladly replace anything I can get to real easy like the battery and filters, any sort of work, or fluid changing, just take it down the street or to the dealer depending on what I'm doing, $116 for a dealer transmission drain and fill that I do every year to keep everything happy really isn't much to ask.
>>25029002I actually just replaced all the motor / trans mounts in my 08 TL myself you’d really rather pay that money then just loose $200 and a Saturday? Where was your daddy? He didn’t teach you this stuff?
>>25044503My dad died when I was 11, but beside that I just can't work on cars in this apartment complex, my shit's so fucked that I'm lucky enough to even have a car with the underpinnings of an Acura TL/TSX to spend money fixing up.
never been a mechalways do my own mods/repairsalways have parts left overnever had a problem with itgot to drink beer on day off and be away from stupid wife and retarded kids whining about internet speeds and resolutionzgettin a divorce next month, ditching my US citizenship and fuckin off to Peru.
>>25032538Reminds me of one time i got an instant oil change. I was lazy and didn't feel like dealing with it. I smelt something burning so i opened tbe hood and saw my melted oil cap on the exhaust manifold
>>25041895drove used cars up until age 23. hated every fucking minute of it. i don't care how much I'm "wasting" on a lease I never fucking worry about my car breaking, being in the shop, oil changes, tires, or tows and loaner cars. leasing is worth every penny. not to mention modern used cars feel fucking gross. nothing is built to last anymore
>>25048667>nothing is built to last anymoreMaybe they'd be built to last if there weren't soiboys leasing 36 months at a time because they don't want to pay $39.95 for an oil change every 3000 miles and fix what's needed as part of being a car owner instead of just larping.
>>25048996it's late stage capitalism. no globohomo wall street automaker makes anything worth saving anymore. to be honest I don't even keep leases the full term. I'm tired of the new car when it doesn't feel new anymore. usually around 18 months into the lease. and i don't lease for 36 months, i lease for 24 or 27 months. my current lease I can get out of now 11 months EARLY and they're going to pay me $3,000 cash.
>>25025963>too cheapshit's just fun. just like any other worthwhile human being, i'm having fun solving problems, it brings me pleasure to spend my free time on learning skills and improving my life in resultsociety is collapsing because people spend too much making dumb fuck threads and too little time improving their skills/environment/life. just have all of those whining blm riot twitter thots fix a car, see what happens
>sister buys nu-CRV in the spring>drive it because I don't feel like moving my car>no road feel whatosever>doing anything but mashing pedals? Car does nothing>annoying alerts for shit I see well before the alarms go off>auto stop-start sucks FUCKING DONKEY DICKS and I turn it off every time>no way to turn off certain nannies>camera might as well be from fucking 2003 or something>typical iPad glued to dash>CANNOT see anything out of windows, have to crane head in what little space I get>belt line on hood is ridiculously high
>>25025963Without fail, anytime someone has worked on my car, they fucked up the repair.
>>25028558I haven’t found a shop that will do Mobile 1 full sun oil changes for $35 (cost of 6 quarts at costco)
>>25026610I don’t give a fuck about PPE but otherwise this. Mechanics fuck up 10x more shit than you are if you have even the most basic patience and care.Fuck paying someone $140 an hour to slap something together without care when I can do it with the only cost being my spare time and be able to take my time and make sure it is correct.Literally I have had so many mechanics either try to screw me over by either telling me something is wrong that obviously isn’t. (Your brakes are bad - yea sure okay I didn’t just replace all 4 rotors and pads 2 weeks okay) Worse than that is they “fix” something and make the problem worse. Hell I’ve even had a mechanic do the wrong work after discussing it in detail with service advisor and then after it was done he claimed did the work I told him to. In that case I wanted rusty brake lines replaced, he replaced an entirely different line that we both saw zero rust or issue with.
>>25026788>cops pulling people over at the time for being out and aboutFound the Aussie living in Nazi Germany
>>25025963The truth is somewhere in between. If I have an issue I'll do my own research and see if it's a something I want to deal with myself. Even if it's not, at least when I go to the mechanic I can better explain to them what's going on instead of "uhh car no work plz fix " and I'm sure that's kept me from getting fucked over
>>25029852maybe you should stop driving 25000 miles a month you fucking retard
>>25025963With this economy you really should work on your own car.
>>25025963Tell me how I know you've never met your dad
>>25026636>Rustled my jimmiesI wish this didn't have such a stigma these days. I always found it funny.
>>25050907Not him but my dad could barely tell you what end of a car was the front. Total fucking need that buried himself in technology. Some of us weren't lucky enough to have a dad that did "guy" shit or teach us life skills. That being said I still learned to do basic repairs on cars by myself and taught myself how to shoot.
