My mommy hates the word motorcycle but you gotta think about the shit your average cageoid mother sees motorcyclists do. To them speeding is like 5-10 over. 15 over to them is insane. Also motorcyclists generally are responsible for their own deaths and all the pain they put themselves through.

I've been seeing chink manufacturers creep into the market for the past few years and honestly I feel sorry for anyone who buys into them because it's little more than a scam.
Where I live scooters dominate the market and especially the low cc market with chink brands (Sym, Kymco) being best sellers. Their shitty reliability doesn't seem to matter to people since they're so cheap. But that generally means that if you're looking into smaller cc bikes your options are limited because any proper bike costs upwards of 4k yuros and deemed as "not worth it" and there's just not many of them going around as scoots so people end up with those.

Then some people think that "oh look at that it's a proper low cc bike that costs much less than the competition" and buy into it hoping to get onto two wheels and they just dump their money down the drain with those.
Zontes are especially notorious for shitty reliability, bad dealer support and changing their models 3-4 times a year which means that if you have a last year model and try to sell it used the price is tanked because there's been multiple revisions to it since then, also you're pretty much a sucker for buying into it when the same money will get you more things 6 months later.
CF moto is newer into the market but they're growing faster, they've somehow successfully conned people into thinking they're a legitimate manufacturer and even magazines are picking them up for reviews now against established brands.

Never trust chinks.

They're undercutting the competition by a big amount in price so if they survive 4-5 years they're perceived as worthwhile. However they're just leeching off of japanese brands, copying their styling and model range and they're definitely not as reliable. A friend of mine bought a 2019 model scoot off of them, I think a Kymco one but I can't easily differentiate them, and within 6 months the ignition coil cable just snapped for no apparent purpose. The scoot was under warranty but it took 6 months for the part to arrive. And ok perhaps the warranty issues were dealer specific but random failures like that which you don't really expect happening on any bike, let alone a brand new one is exactly the kind of behavior you expect from shitty chink bikes. They don't break down in the usual ways most other bikes do, it's a roulette where everything and anything can break at any moment, even parts that are not under any specific stress but the build quality is so shitty that they'll just break all the same.

Depends on the highway speeds. Up to 65mph the cb300r is fine. For up to 80 you might want the cb500f.
Also consider a drz 400 or klr 650

Z400 and MT03 would be better as commuter bikes, sit on a versys 300 too if you can. The CB300, and the bmw G310, are a bit anemic at most speeds they're basically next decade's msf bikes
>>24872275

also not bad but you're going to be hard pressed to find these used in this market for less than msrp and they're more expensive than the other bikes out the door

Guys someone knocked my bike into this triumph, picked the triumph up and wedged it into my bike. in order to get out I'd have to lay the triumph down.

What do?
>>
>>24872402
This is utterly fucked. I say try and find the owner or wait till they show up, explain the situation, then both of you try to get his bike out of the way so you can leave.

If nothing else then take pictures and put them on a sharing site. Put that URL and an explanation on a note on his bike, and try your hardest to get it out of the way without laying it down. I wouldn't lay it down if that's the only option. I'd just be late and wait for them to get there.
>>
Happy Thanksgiving my bros
>>
>>
>>24872410
He has a disc lock and brake lock on so I can't move it an inch and it's a triumph so I can't lift and move the front wheel because it's like 550lbs. If I lay it down for 60 seconds, move my bike then pick it back up that's the best I can do. Otherwise I could just leave it there until he comes back which could be tomorrow or next Monday idk
>>

You don't need to lift the front and shift it one go, use the suspension to bounce the front and scoot it a little

If that doesn't work get your cover/gear/dog under the triumph and carefully lay it down, bunch it up a little under any contact points to stop scrapeage

If you can find any more evidence of that I'd love to see it.
Autoblog is the only source I've seen directly suggesting that they are "speakers."
But yamaha calling it an "acoustic amplifier grille" system sure makes it sound like speakers.

I don't really see how pointing the intakes through tubes facing the rider could be considered an "acoustic amplifier grille system".
Yamaha has done the tube thing in the past and didn't give it a special name iirc

This doesn't suggest there's speakers it's just a fancy name for "holes you can hear the sound from" as opposed to covering up the airbox completely and not hearing the intake sound.

Have you ridden anything before? No? A used DR650 would honestly make more sense then.
>cheap
>it just works
>single cylinder that's very accessible to mad easy to wrench on
>if you even have to
>does city very easy
This is all assuming you're not a manlet. You could buy something EFI and more complex, like a CB500F, but I personally do enjoy the ability to wrench on my own bike, and nothing's easier to work on than a carb'd single cylinder exposed to the open air.

My intentions are to start doing some touring/backpacking using moto as means of transportation so most of my mileage will be highway, but I do want the ability to make it to a relatively remote campsite when I need to.

I'm leaning towards the 1200 and figuring if I actually want to do real off-road stuff I should just buy a dirt bike in addition to a 1200?
>>
>>24872611
They're both great bikes though obviously more expensive than the competition. Very smooth and easy to ride and very capable too. The 1200 is the go to if you'll be riding on the road and/or touring, if you ride one you'll very soon realise why everyone likes them.
F800 is the option if you're actually planning to ride dirt and go on actual adventure touring. The 1200 can do dirt too if you're experienced and know what you're doing but if you really know what you're doing you'll just go for the F800 which is far more capable and fun off road.
Also don't get the F800 if you're a manlet

A DR650 would fit you like a glove then. The bike is great for people your height and weight, the power isn't excessive for a beginner, and it'll do highway speeds with no issues.

It is what I would recommend. Look for like a 2005-2018 bike near you and just buy it if it's got no outstanding issues or a trillion miles.

>>24872636
>figuring if I actually want to do real off-road stuff I should just buy a dirt bike in addition to a 1200?
This is your brain on adventure bikes.

If you're just going to use the 1200 for touring then why at all would you spend that kind of money on an ADV bike and not something actually comfortable and comes with storage like, say, a Goldwing, or a Road King special?

Regardless I still maintain that the Tenere 700 is a more sensible buy. Spending that much on a 1200 you're likely to dump off-road because it weighs 6 trillion pounds or an 800 that'd function the same on the highway because it's so pigfat seems nonsensical when Yamaha makes a lighter bike for less.

I've legitimately thought about this but as mentioned in my original post I do want the bike to at least be capable of getting me up a trail to a campsite for certain destinations instead of having to leave my bike at the trailhead 100% of the time. Also what the hell is the deal with the 1200's pretty much universally positive reputation when there is a common consensus that it's basically useless off-road??

You sound like you have no experience riding off road.

It doesn't matter what bike you have, it's about your skill. A street bike with a capable off roader riding it can do dirt, if unwillingly, and a dirtbike with a dirtnoob on top of it won't magically make you better at going on dirt, it will be hard and tiring.

The GS can do dirt at a decent level but it's a huge heavy bike, so the rider has to be experienced in order to handle it.

>>24872719
Guilty as charged. My father grew up riding dirt but decided to shield me from motorcycles because he had a nearly life-ending crash on a street bike when he was 30. Ever since then he dropped moto and became a fucking cyclist. I got into motorcycles naturally give or take 5 years ago and have just recently started riding track but never had any friends that do dirt so I never jumped in a bought one to learn.

Now for the past year or so I've gotten real big into camping and backpacking and want to start taking my adventures out of state and I'm not even sure why but just naturally gravitated to the BMW GS's. I think even way back when I started riding I would see these things on the street and think to myself, damn that's a cool bike. And since the camping thing crosses over a bit into off-road moto, I figured an adventure bike is the way to go.

Definitely won't be buying anything new, but I've been seeing 1200 GS's go for anywhere from 4500-7000 which is just about in my price bracket.

that's easy-ish enough to deal with, you'll need to have new oversized piston heads made and you'll need the cylinders bored out by a machinist's shop to unfuck the cylinder walls. however IIRC you'll also need to address the oil system problem by either replacing the sensor like the anon last thread or the thread before suggested or rebuilding the pump. however I'd just part it out and buy an SV650 or another jap middleweight nakkid or a RE like that memelord suggested.

>>24872782

>>
>>24872746
Thought so. Focus on starting out with whatever bike you have and worry later about spending that kind of money on the hobby. Also try to get started on dirt in a cheaper way. You need to properly asses what it actually entails and what you actually need. I suck at dirt but I've had a taste of it so I can tell you that everything you know about riding does not work on dirt. Neither of your tires have grip and track straight as they do on the road/track, and even if some riding styles or circumstances make the rear lose traction, on the street/track losing the front is never desirable whereas on dirt it's inevitable so you can't rely on a steady front tire. It's tiring and difficult and there's a lot of new shit you have to learn. No bike you can buy will magically make you better on dirt, some are just easier than others to use on dirt.

This hands down, also its got 47 HP so you could be riding it right now. The later GS is also good. There's literally nothing better than this at that price point and the LC4s were so notoriously unreliable that they're singlehandedly responsible for KTM's current reputation.

Light and nimble, easy to throw around off road but it's also surprisingly good on road. It's basically the Yammie XT660R but more than a decade earlier. Speaking of which the XT600 or XTR are also good options though obviously they're not exactly adv.

Gaiters trap moisture so other than off-road where constant rock bombardment happens it's pretty much even. I've seen plenty of corrosion beneath gaiters so if you run them don't neglect to spray CRC or Boeshield beneath if it really matters. Seals harden over time too. They're generally cheap and easy to replace.

Within US law, it was perfectly legal and justified. Silly woman never should have left her house.

Unfortunately Im going to have to apply some euroseethe here: if she didnt have a gun, she would still be alive. She was clearly wreckless and a hazard to other motorists, and had some kind of mental issues. This doesnt mean she deserved to die though, it could have all been caused by her pregnancy hormones for all we know. Now because she had a firearm, biker man had no choice but to kill her to protect his own life. Her husband is out a missus and a baby because his dumb wife was legally allowed to own and operate a firearm, when she clearly shouldn’t have been. If I lived in the states I’d carry a handgun, but I sure as shit wouldn’t ever want to have to use it, and this is probably one of the saddest, stupidest examples I’ve seen.

The second you start getting too benevolent for your own good is how you let people like Tarrant convince your government that yeah you know what, you've all had freedom for too long. We should just make you slaves real quick.

Ultimately the person who died was some utterly insane foid who though hitting a motorcycle on purpose then running away then walking outside with a gun were all good ideas. This is the kind of person society doesn't really struggle without having around, very similar to how all the young upstanding future engineers and doctors in Chicago go into that dark night with no tears shed.

Guns should be as easy to buy as alcohol from the liquor store. Also being black should be illegal. I have solved society.

Don't listen to the fucking DR propagandist below, they don't even ride and they pride themselves on how many DR650's they can "sell" via 4chan. They're not bad bikes in a general sense but you're going to hate it if you need to ride in a city at all in warm weather. No I won't explain further.

If Fallout 4 wasn't written by toddlers, I would agree with you. Unfortunately not s single person at bethesda responsible for story direction or character creation is good at their job, and thus the Institute is made up of some of the most utterly incompetent people I could possibly imagine.

Assuming the game didn't suck and actually gave you the ability to restructure 90% of what the institute is doing then again yeah, anyone sensible would side with them, but as is they're just retards building sentient robots for absolutely no reason in a world where the actual useful things they're doing are easily reproducible so it's a uranium football spiked into their reactor from me.

They're lucky there's no internet at that point in history otherwise that artificial intelligence would be much more dangerous than it already proves to be literally every five seconds they keep fucking making the things.

>>24873285
A: Africa twin is an old bike with much older materials science and a significantly greater displacement thus pointing to it as a "bikes have always been this heavy," is retarded
B: the Tenere 700 is significantly lighter because it wasn't designed by retards
C: You're fucking retarded.

yeah the Institute is fucking retarded but you do have to keep in mind that you're made director after Shawn croaks so if you're willing to larp hard enough, you could just say that gen 3 synth production is halted. The Enclave would want you to preserve the pure humans left down there anyways.
Fallout 4 is garbage anyways.

the general gameplay was good but the story was shit and the RPG elements were pretty much missing completely. It would have been better if it wasn't a Fallout game and just a generic post apocalyptic settlement game.

>Shawn dies and you're put forth
Near their entire hierarchy (rightfully) objects to this and already is fractured regarding what should actually be worked on. Restructuring the Institute into something functional is in my eyes practically impossible, as all the high-up personalities are foolhardy and unwilling to compromise in the slightest.

The Enclave at this point is also almost entirely dead. Chicago may be the next Bethel but they're simply going to bleed resources until whatever technology they have worth keeping operational can't be, and the members just mass kill themselves/exodus into being normal wastelanders once high command fails to keep order and people fed.

Who /thanksgiving/ ride? Loving this heated gear. Real cold out tonight and I’m feeling nice and toasty. Only another hour until home
>>
>>24873728
what do you have? vest?
>>
>>24873734
“Hot wired” jacket liner, wired into the battery under my leather jacket. Best $225 worth of motorcycle gear I’ve bought. Wish I had taken the heated gear pill years ago.
>>
>>24873741
nice. i got a vest and grips.
riding in the rain is actually comfy now. sound of rain on the helmet reminds me of camping and i just ride around listening to talk radio nice and toasty.
>>
Also, finally going to have the Lowrider with me at my new place in Carolina. No more sneaking around on the 48 or 900RR with no plate.
>>
>>24873748
Damn that does sound cozy. The jacket liner I’ve got has DC plugs at the end of the sleeves for the gloves, but we all know how gross winter gloves can get after a winter season. I think I’m just going to go with the heated grips + jacket liner, and maybe the pants liner too. That seems to be the weak point right now, even with long Johns, and windbreaker pants under my Kevlar jean.

I’m just going to keep my winter gloves and skip the heated ones for now, they work well as they are now, besides the fact that they stink. Good winter gloves don’t breath well at all. Those + heated grips should sufficient even in the low 20’s, which is as cold as it gets. The lowrider is my only vehicle this winter, lol.

>>24874178
>was thinking the other day how the hell the germans in their autobahn do it so safely
Very easy to answer. Driver education. They use the right lane for traveling and get in the left lane to pass then back over. When this is rigidly drilled into people and they act responsibly then you get to have fun shit like do 120mph across the country. Most people here in America think the left lane is the fast lane or they feel safe in it. They think the middle lanes are for driving casually, and the far right lane is for merging. This is why every interstate is a maddening cluster fuck of people driving at different rates of speed getting bunched up and infuriated.
>>
>>24874189
Maybe the bike is in fish-lens mode but the backdrop is not.
