There’s a plenty of reasons
One of them is money - if i’d want it faster it would get mre expensive than i’m willing to pay
Other reason is that some of the parts had to be fixed or redone and it takes time.
It should be done in next 2-3 weeks and then it goes to the detailing…
I’m aiming for something slightly before christmass or early next year.
Patience my friend. Be patient

everyone seems to say the extra vibrations are too much. i used to run an 80's turbo shitbox with balance shaft delete, and 90a mounts. it was loud and rough, but nothing as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
so are two
are these hybrid kits a good compromise?
>>
And you know… it’s winter here… i want to have it before march so i will be able to put a new exhaust and audio
>>24869454
>silver is nice
Yes it is. It also isn’t as obnoxious as let’s say red. Although i wanted to give it blue and purple flake, but albeit nice looking color it won’t be as nice on a whole car.
>>
if you had to ball park it, what should the torque spec for battery/engine grounds be? 10 ft-lbf?
>>
>>24869213
Homestly i would drive RF on winter. Just take care of something for undertray and chassis so it wouldn’t rust
I’m considering pic rel for winter car
>>
>>24869264
NC/ND are both considered improvements over NA/NB in terms of rust proofing, but if you live in the salt belt they'll be shit regardless.
>>
>>24869467
>are these hybrid kits a good compromise?
I ran that hybrid kit but then I ended up just putting both race mounts on since I'm not a pussy and I hate wheel hop and having my tranny dancing around when I'm trying to snatch 3rd fast as fuck. Mines turbo though, idk if I'd even bother with the mounts if it wasn't turbo.

btw i picked up used pair of rear poly diff mounts. will their pair with mazda competition engine mounts or should i go stiffer?
or should i get something less stiffer for the rear?
i want stiffer mounts, just not something thats gonna vibrate and creak every panel and numb my ass
>>
>>24869496
>or should i get something less stiffer for the rear?
Idk, installing the diff mounts will help with wheel hop a lot and won't be as noisy as engine mounts, however it won't keep the shifter steady when you're trying to snatch gears mid corner or while sliding. I have some random stiff ass ebay diff mounts and those 949 engine mounts for the past 5 years, no regrets. Also a 9lb flywheel, shits the best combo on the planet.
>>
>>24869213
i parked away my NA today too. I won't see her until mid april now. Big sad
>>
>>24869502
you have both of those 949 engine mounts? i just bought their coolatn reroute, it was 30% off. no sale on mounts tho :(
>>
>>24869622
>you have both of those 949 engine mounts? i
Yes not the hybrid kit though, I got both of the bad ass race mounts. Re-route is cool but really not necessary unless boosted. I'd still do it even if I was N/A because the kit is nice but don't forget 01+ vvt motors don't like the reroute. You gotta swap to a 99-00 head gasket to get good coolant distribution if running a re-route.

Idk I don't even worry about the vibrations, it feels right. I'll tell you what though the mirrors are fuzzy I can tolerate it and I'd rather not go back to sloppy shifting just for comfort I'd just run earplugs or something if I had a headache (I never get headaches).

Lads, MRS or NB ? I cant decide and i will probably drive both before making a decision. The nb is basically better and more practical in every way but my heart wants an mrs. How are they to work on ? Livability ? It‘ll be my daily and i dont need much and i think an nb would be enough space/comfort since i dont drive highway or carry Stuff/passengers around but the mr2 seems a little bit too retarded in that compartment. Anyone here live with one what are your Experiences and tips ? Also do i have to always be careful so it doesnt kill me when hooning compared to the miat or is that just a meme? Im not against learning how to drive it but I feel like it will ruin the fun to always be cautious. Thx niggers
>>
>>24870262
I used to be big on the RF/hard tops because I wanted a coupe Miata, but then I got my NB soft top and I wouldn't go for the RF or a hardtop anymore. The ultimate visibility and open air is very nice.

We talked about this a little in the last thread.
Here’s my post on MR2’s
>>24830420
To add to it regarding storage space: the frunk is stupid small, but it does have some compartments between and behind the seats from what I recall. You will not be doing a big shopping trip and bringing home groceries in it if you have a passenger with you.
The earlier cars actually had decent storage, the sw20 had a fairly large actual trunk in addition to a good sized frunk. And hidden compartments behind the seats.
>>
>>24870369
Regarding storage space and daily-ability (as i own MRS after i owned miata for years, i'm >>24828192): In last thread someone mentioned shitty frunk space and had a laugh about it (because it's ridiculously small, yeah), but as >>24870960 said, MRS also has a somewhat sizeable storage space behind seats. I'd say total storage space (frunk + rear storage behind seats) in MRS could be somewhat similar to what miat offers in its trunk, except it's split in two and therefore less useful. Ttttttttttthis guy right here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW0v505p60U
shows the extra space around 7:08, and you can extend it by removing some of removable plastics inside the compartment, primarily ones that build a "floor" and removing them exposes good extra 5-10cm of height to use for storage. It really isn't horrible, i took a trip home in this car and i packed two backpacks + some bags just in this rear compartment, it's probably the biggest storage space in the car, more useful than frunk one.

If you say your heart wants a MRS, then you'll love how unique it feels, how different it drives, how weird it feels like to hear the engine behind you, finally how hard it goes when pushed. Comes with a downside, because once you push it too hard, it pulls you out of the corner not with a happy little oversteer/understeer, but with the entire weight of your engine. Memes are overexaggerated, but at the same time it definitely is less willing to accept driver's mistakes. I had miata, i switched to MRS. My primary reason was rust - miata rusts like shit, mr2 is really well rust-proofed and it's crazy easy to find one that's not rotten to shit, but ever since i bought it, i just keep loving it more and more. It's less of a good daily than a miata (though they're definitely in same weight class when it comes to that), it's a bitch to work on compared to miata, it's also a bit scarier than a miata, but if you're kind of a person to love it, you'll probably love it to death..

where could one get a hard top for a 2000 NB miata? I know OEM ones are expensive so what is the "cheap" option? Quality doesn't really matter since I want to cut the hard top into having a targa top like a corvette. How about the engine mounts from good win racing?
https://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Parts/Miata/Engine/Mounts-Hardware.html
there are these blackbird fabworx.
they have street and comp. same hardness of 70A, street are larger for more absorption.. they also make a drop version that lowers the engine by .5" is this useful? any mods needed?
then another brand there AWR has multiple hardness choices from 62 to 95
and then they also sell the innvoative brand, and its the only site that lets you pick hardness. from 60-85. FM doesnt give you that option
so many choices...

Grounding issues are so strange. My folks have an old VW bus that has one of the first ever fuel injected engines of the type 2 series. Any one of half a dozen grounding wires just slightly loose and it runs like shit once it warms up. Runs fine when cold usually. Put the ground to a different part of the engine block and it doesn’t like it either. By all rights any one part of the block should be almost exactly the same as any other part.

i dont have anything accurate enough to get good measurements. and its hard with just one person. the frame holes on B are elongated so its hard to find the center.
I used a tailors tape which was the easiest to use and got 85.3 and 84.9 on B and 61 even on C using metric.
cant do diagonal cause of the height difference
it seems to be square and looks level. issue is pic related.

if it was me, i'd replace a frame piece with such a dent out of hand, but if you want some precise-ish measurements for D and E, get four pieces of all-thread, bolt them into the holes, and cut off the ends so they're all even with each other and measure across those. Could also do this with slotted holes.

>PCV valve opens and pulls air out of crankcase because there's a vacuum in the manifold
>supercharger always blows air in
I'm not knowledgable on that, but i'm curious. Is this working because manifold has negative pressure when throttle is closed (if it even does, i wouldn't know)? Or is it just never opening at all in this configuration? Wouldn't supercharger affect PCV valve?
>>
>>24878895
It’s a one way valve, it will allow air from engine case through whenever the manifold pressure is less than the pressure in the case. Negative and positive pressure are just relative terms, only meaningful when comparing two connected volumes.
Your manifold will probably be at negative when the throttle plate is closed, since it won’t allow much through compared to the volume of air the cylinders are trying to pass. This is just an informed guess though, I’ve never had to get into it in detail. The amount of air super chargers push can be changed by increasing the sc pulley size (reduces volume of air per minute) or shrinking it (increases volume because it spins more times per engine rotation). If it was a kit specifically for your car (which I’m assuming it was being a Jackson) then it should be tuned for fairly proper actuation with the stock pcv.
>>24878617
Pretty much, no turbo lag whatsoever so as the other anon said it doesn’t give you the sudden rush as the turbo kicks in that your body and mind interpret as huge power. So a sc won’t have the huge top end that a turbo can be tuned for, but you never have the lag and lack of low end power from idle that a turbo has to rev past.
A sc can be quicker off the line and is more predictable when changing throttle in corners. It’s very linear feeling.
A turbo can be more fuel efficient since it’s basically an na engine when at low rpms, and has fantastic potential for power at the top end, it’s power band starts weak and then gets more powerful in an exponential manner.
>>
>>24879079
what else do you need for that supercharger? new injectors? ecu?
>>
>>24879878
Depends on model. JR m45 doesn't require anything extra but it's a good idea to get extra management whether it be a mega squirt or even just a power card. Anything other than the m45 supercharger, which is good for maybe 200hp or a low 14 quarter mile at best, will require injectors, fuel pump, and some sort of engine management.
>>
>>24880274
>it's a good idea to get ECU
Wait, so you claim that stock miata ecu can handle little bit of boost without any outside help? Or is it that JR m45 kit has some kind of ECU helper/piggyback in bundle?
>>
>>24880307
You don't need anything. Getting the JRPC is a good idea for preventing detonation/knocking but isn't required, more of a peace of mind. As far as I know only the m45 is that lenient.

Other anon covered it already pretty well.
Anything beyond mild bolt ons will want new ecu maps to get the most out of it and be safe. I didn’t even realize you could get away with a stock ecu with a supercharger.
For a ton of info, if you want a full rundown on engine boosting and tuning, check out D4A channel on YouTube. He’s a dude from Eastern Europe that has a fairly extensively modded aw11 that he has been documenting, but he also does a ton of really good in depth videos on how engines work and the differences in design philosophies, and he has a very detailed series on turbo charging that he started on a while back.

it actually wasn't bad at all with two people. It's like 8 bolts and maybe 5 connectors once you have the tombstone shit and dash off. Getting the HVAC control cables out is the hardest part desu but it's not that bad

I ended up putting some of that emergency reflective heat blanket stuff under there too because well why not. Kind of a rant, but consider an MR2 Spyder, you'd be surprised how damn tall-friendly it is in its stock form even. If you're 6ft>, any Miata is an absolute fucking pain in the ass to deal with in terms of fitment. People who will tell you otherwise here had most likely given up on heel-toeing and drive with their thighs up in the steering wheel. Forget about autox or track driving that requires wearing a helmet 'cause you won't fit even if you swap out the seats. I am currently waiting for my car to get back to me so I can bolt down a Lotus Elise seat but the way I'm seeing it, I'll be most likely selling it them because the difference will be marginal, and helmet fitment issues will still prevail. 6ft tall btw, unusually long legs, will never be able to stretch them out fully so on longer trips my ankle dies. Fun car, also fuck it at the same time.

I'm 5'11" without shoes and this is my experience though I'm also a fatass. With a helmet and hardtop I have to hunch a bit with the stock nb1 seat but I have a longer torso and shorter legs. Losing another 60 lbs would probably help with the leg room though. As of now I can't heel toe effectively, it does more harm than good. Still absolutely love the car but I dont know if I would still have it of I didn't have a truck to compliment my needs. A drive over an hour and I'm dying to get out and stretch.
>>
>>24886078
6’1.5” without shoes on here, I fit fine in my nb, have about two inches from head top to canvas when sitting comfortably. I drive with top down when wearing a helmet 95%of the time, but I fit well enough with top up on the autocross days that actually dump rain.

>>24886280

I really wanted an NC for ages because they were AU$10k for a while but they went retard mode with covid. Now they're $17k+ for something in a gay colour with hella miles and a fucked soft top

I bought an e36 instead and I think I'm way better off for it. Actually has a fast engine, still got that sweet 50/50 weight ratio and it's great fun to work on. Parts are cheap af.

I also feel like I dodged a bullet with the community. MX5 stuff in Australia is literally ALL old men. And daddy's money kids. e36 guys are all people that want the coolest, fastest car for as little money as possible.

What's more important than settling is resetting the bushings before you get the alignment. The ND is sensitive to alignment changes and has large dynamic camber and toe ranges in the rear. Be sure to break all arm bolts loose and then torque again with the suspension loaded. There should be like five bolts on each front corner and eleven on each rear corner. The car should sit another eighth to quarter inch lower after doing this. Go to a proper alignment shop and give them the specific values that you want.

Before I even read your second post I immediately thought to myself ‘hammering to loosen a seized joint’. This is why you should always keep a brass headed hammer around along with a hand torch.
I would guess that they are still in good enough shape to use, I have never seen that part break on any vehicle I’ve owned or dealt with, I have seen the ball joint stud that goes through that snap tho.
I will say that that joint must have been really well stuck for whoever did it to have had to be a ton it that much. And they probably didn’t use heat or a ball joint puller, either of which should have gotten it loose without that much deformation.

>>
>>24897254
Roll hoop seems like the best bet. The whole thing weighs 1.4 kg, it may be the only thing that's rigid enough. I wonder if it might damage the cover, and if so, how hard it is to remove it and reinstall it later. Otherwise it's back to the suction cup idea. In retrospect, I don't think it's a good idea to put the kind of torque involved on the rear window, so it's rear deck only.

Wait, did the 10ae not have a 205 width profile? My 2001 has 205 from factory.
If you stay on only a 195 width then I see zero point in a wider wheel. You’d just be adding weight for no reason, the entire point of going wider on the rims is to get a wider contact patch.

Bung that cunt back in, or don't. Either way, it's not critical in the least. Just make sure it can't wiggle back out again and get eaten by the belts.

Does anyone have experience rebuilding door hinges? The driver side sags really bad and passenger side is stiff as fuck.
Got all the panels off to get the doors off.
I cant find anything on eBay thats listed in good condition.

NA door hinges. I dont have part numbers. there are no new hinges out there.
eBay listings all say "in good condition" for any passage side ones. driver side all say "as is" or "used condition" or no description.
I already bought a pair last year and returned them cause they were sloppy.

>>24899887
Looks like mazda-parts.com ships as far as I can tell. And maybe the dealership is really one of those stealerships, trying to rip you off.

But even if they didn't, for a Miata, I'd do the drive and pay the price for new original parts. This isn't some shitbox that you only need to barely scrape by, this is a classic and should be treated as such. And don't fuel a market for ruining perfectly good Miatas as "parts cars". We don't need the few remaining to end up at S2000 or RX7 prices, let's keep them affordable for normal people too.
>>
>>24869258

Nigger Ive daily'd my Miata for 4 years in new england. Basically no rust. And any small rust spots that do pop up get treated in the spring with rust converter. But its *almost* entirely rust free because I spent a couple hours spraying the underside with rust stopping oil film each fall. I say almost because there is no such thing as an entirely rust free 20+ year old car.

Got my engine out, its pissing oil like a BMW. mostly the valve gasket, and what looks like cam seals
>>
>>24905308
And you pulled the entire engine to do those jobs?
There has to be another reason you yanked, I did all three shaft seals in a couple hours on mine in place. I realize yours having the cam shaft sensor on the back might be harder to do, I have an nb2 so it’s timing is run off the crank.
>>
>>24905620
It's 1000% easier to do this outside the engine bay.
I can remove all the brackets and clean everything around them.
I can clean the engine bay itself completely. Paint over rust spots. Nothing is in the way.
I'm going to scrub and clean the block and paint it too.
Installing a coolant reroute, square top manifold, new engine mounts, and swapping front subframe.
>>
>>24905721
can you show where rear main seal is i think mine leak
>>
>>24905721
Right, makes sense. I have new engine mounts myself, but have to make the time to pull my exhaust manifold off and lift the engine a bit to get them in.
>>24905828
Rear main seal is accessed between the engine and transmission, he’d have to crack them apart and pull his clutch to show that. It’s possible to do the job with the engine in the car, dropping the transmission out isn’t all that hard and then you’d have fairly quick access to see the condition of the seal. Front main seal is arguably harder to access since you need to basically do a timing belt job to access it.
>>
>>24905935
I've done the front main seal while doing a timing belt job but my tiny boi brain can'rt fathomn the rear area plz won't yuou show me dear boss

>>
>>24905984
alright so scratch everything around it with a picker and then fill in the gaps with jb weld
>>
>>24905991
Yeah, that oughta do. The instructions only say to be careful with the shaft itself, seems to me you can fuck everything else up.
Honestly the book recommends straight up slicing the old seal with a razor to remove the part that actually seals to the shaft and then using picks to pull the part that is pressed into the block.

whats the plate next to it blocking?
what issues would that open port cause?
my miata had this weird fuel cut that came and went. never found the cause. replaced the entire fuel system, pump, filter, injectors. improved things but didnt fix it. ran fine 98% of the time.
>>
>>24907585
>whats the plate next to it blocking?
>what issues would that open port cause?
The other port that's blocked off is where the egr valve actually mounts. I'm not 100% sure if you can just block the one EGR valve port without blocking the feed port. You could poke around In there and find out but remember there being block off plates for both ports.
