The older the car is, the worse it is. Advancements like fuel injection, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and power steering have significantly improved the usability and value of cars. Why fawn over objectively worse products when we've gained so much in just the past three decades?

Tried to finish pulling the 5.3 for my firebird. Forgot to unbolt the torque converter and the transmission separated from the engine crooked. Anyway I can salvage this situation or am I going to have to sacrifice my wrists to try and unbolt it? I don’t care if the torque converter or transmission gets fucked up. I’m putting a manual on it anyways and it’s not my truck I’m pulling it from
>>24617084Might as well hook the tranny back up and pull both as a unit, then disconnect the tc when you have it out and have space.
>>24617084No. I did the same thing when pulling my 330, just lowered it back in place and unbolted the TC. Thought I fucked it up cause it started pouring trans fluid
>>24617205Problem with that is that the truck it’s in is a 4x4. I’d have to drop the transfer case to get it to clear the crossmembers. Tho I might be able to bolt the loose side back on to straighten it out and then try again.

>>24617698My Lincoln 175 has a chart for metal thickness on the inside of the wire feed access cover that will show what feed rate and amp rate applies to the sheet metal. I would think for floorpans you'd be in setting C 2-4 feed setting for floorpans. When there, make sure to hop around the pan circumference to prevent warping when tacking, then go at it full send in 1-2 inch areas and skip around as well. Youtube wire feed welding and try and follow the circular style method. Good luck.

Got it out. Took a smaller crowbar and a mallet to separate the side of the trans that was stuck. Then lined up the trans mount and bolted it back on. Then just worked the engine back and forth for a few hours until it popped out. Unfortunately I ended up breaking the intake manifold but whatever. It was too tall to fit under my hood anyways

>>24621858yes, what should i know?
I put a 130amp ford 1G alternator on my car.Im using v belts. My v belts keep getting cooked and thrown by my alternator when l try to do my break in.Im assuming l need a twin pulley on the alternator to share the load between the v belts. Now lve ordered that. Its cheap. But is that really gonna fix my problem?Should l increase the drive of my alternator pulley so it stops nuking my belts at such low RPM?
>>24623477>130amp ford 1GI didn't know those existed. If you want to underdrive your alternator get the Ford "hy-po" style pulley for an old mustang.>>24623202They're not inherently bad, but they're boomer restomod tech and usually parts like that are low quality. The technical downside of one wire alts is that they sample voltage at the same place they supply it, were ideally you would sample the battery voltage directly and the alt would charge to match that. If you have your battery in the trunk with a long wire, or some other kind of voltage drop then a one wire alternator may not charge the system to a high enough voltage.
>>24623546Yeah me dummy its simply 100amp. But its still nearly double what the car came with. Poor little v-belts.My cars going to be revving up 1000rpm higher than it ever has. And its idle is gonna be "fair." Will making the alternator pulley a little bigger help keep my belts alive? As the alternator wont be working so hard down low? Kinda dumb over here.
>>24623581My guess is there's a different issue that's damaging your belt. A bigger alternator pulley may help though. It both spins the alternator slower and gives the belt more pulley to grip. The downside is you'll have to rev the engine higher to get full amperage output from the alternator assuming you need it.

I'm going to look at a 68 Plymouth valiant 4-door tomorrow. Any one here have experience with these cars? Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for (aside for the obvious stuff)?
>>24625288oh and if it matters, it's the slant 6 kind although im not sure if its the 170 or 225 cubic inch version.
>>24623546well I had to convert from a generator, and I didn't want to fuck with an external voltage regulator. Tuff Stuff has decent reviews, but turns out it's not charging at idle, and that would be a 1-wire alt issue... might have to find a smaller pulley or something. it's too bad, it has a really nice casting
>>24625349A pully like in your pic is oem size and shouldn't be the problem for charging at idle. Idk too much about those tuff stuff alternators specifically. If you want to upgrade; the alternator off a 1994 v8 mustang has the same mounting style as the old fords. It's a g3 with an internal regulator and rated for 130 amps.
>>24625288>>24625318Chances are it's a 225, I wouldn't bother with a 170 (the 225 is already slow as it is). The /6 is a great motor, almost unlikable, and can still keep up with modern traffic. Expect V8 mpg though. If it's a 3 on the tree, check for sloppiness in the shifter and make sure it goes into all gears with ease, the bushings for them aren't that common so it can be a pain to fix. Other than that or fucked wiring, just typical Mopar rust. I did have a carb cooking issue that got resolved by getting rid of the original air filter housing.
>>24625567Thanks for all this info! I shouldve mentioned in my original post its an auto
>>24625349You need to change the pully that the alternator is connected to. Generators need to spin at lower RPMs otherwise they will overcharge and burn up, if you're using a factory pully you need to measure it and the alternator pulley and figure out what a good ratio is for it. here is a example. An alternator needs 1800-2000 RPM at idle to make power and will make maximum output at 6000 rpm but will fail at 16,000 RPMMeasure Alternator pulley size (for example 2.5")Measure Crankshaft Pulley Size (for example 5")The Ratio is 2:1 (5 divided by 2.5 = 2)To find MAX RPM: take your Max engine Speed (for example 5800 RPM) and multiply it by the calculated ratio (5800 x 2) = 11,600 shaft RPMTo find IDLE RPM: Multiply Idle RPM x Ratio (for example 1000 x 2) = 2000 shaft RPM @ Idle
>>24625638The biggest thing to watch out for is price. Don't get screwed, 4 door A-bodies are pretty close to worthless 4-5k for a low milage immaculate car. If it's a ragtop check for rust around the roof seam on the C pillar, floorboards under the dash where the wiper seals leak, rear-wheel openings at the corners like to rust, and check front and rear frame rails. If it is a 170 they are a fair bit more reliable than the 225 but obviously have less power. On the trans make sure there is a kick-down linkage connected to the carb if there isn't, the trans may already be toast tourqeflights need a kick down to operate properly. If you do get it head over to ForABodiesOnly.com you'll find any info you need.

He's looking to unload it for $2k, should I do it bros? Kind of want to daily drive it but I'm not sure. I'm in Missouri so it's not terrible weather but still bad enough to where I'll keep my 2005 Malibu. Should I daily drive it? Or keep it for a summer/weekend car? I don't know much about taking care of classics aside from mileage is shit (I'll budget, it's not that hard ffs) and that you'll have to learn how to do things. With Youtube, tools, and common sense I can do this. I WANT to learn how to take care of my own car better. Should I bother with it at all? Anyone got any advice for me?
>>24634179Absolutely. Go for it. Well he here if you need us
>>24634183forgot to mention my folks are against the idea. Even though I'm 18, I'm still under their roof for another year while I finish school. They want me to drive something with better mileage that's safer and more practical. Practical is not for me. I'm under their roof so I don't know if they'd let me head on out to Colorado to get the car. It's damn far
>>24634191Your legally An adult. Fuck it buy it and then join the marines
>>24634194I'm getting my certification for welding, then I get the hell outta dodge and move more south
>>24634195You can be a welder in the marines

>>24634179If it runs and drives, $2000 is a really good price. They're sure as fuck not making more of them.
>>24635627Yes and it was on someone's parts car I was pulling the steering box off at their shop
>>24635811Please tell me you weren't trying to separate a pitman arm with a pickle fork.
Yo drac what’s with the brougham? Haven’t seen any vids in a while. Your 6.9 still the same?
>>24635837I was separating the ball joints on the tie rod ends from the pitman arm
>>24636515Trying to sell the Brougham to get a '76 Sedan de Ville; 6.9 is out to pasture until my move is finalized. My closing was supposed to be on the 27th, but got bumped because the lender 86-d the sale without the house having the roof replaced.I'm also looking to hire a video editor to make a roughly 10 second intro video for my channel.
>>24604234>t. faggotOld cars are just nicer to look at. New cars just look and feel like shit.
Firebird is done. It's home. I can't wait to dig into it and get it ready for Tucson
>>24637133Looking great. Can't wait to see it finished.
>>24637133Thought it was getting painted white?
>>24637216Later, I have more important things to do
>>24637218Like driving it.
>>24637246This guy gets it. That and new suspension and tires
>>24637255I've got my Imperial in storage and I hate it; I need to get into my new home and set up my shop. No more rentcucking and I can set up my garage/shop.

>>24637218>>24637255Might as well do a home paint job to at least make it a single color

>>24637793>>24638167>>24638211Just figured he'd want to protect all that body work he just paid for, especially if it's gonna be a while. If it's just gonna sit in the garage for a month while you fix things up I understand, but I bet it'll be a year before you get it painted and it'll be on the road the entire time.
>My rear end isn't a 9 inch>It's actually a 9 3/8ths inchFOOOOOOOOOORDDDD!!!!!>31 spline axles and a stronger bodyAlright I'll take it

>>24639102What's this going in?
>>24638929You're probably right but I can worry about paint later
My bubble top finally shipped for the explorer, and my brush guard/taillight guards should arrive tomorrow. I also found a better example of a homemade roof box so I got some more ideas on how to build it. I also made a connection with someone in the JPMP group who is a fabricator, so I might have someone who can make me custom parts for the roof box.
Soon bros. Soon4 new shocks, radiator, hoses and belts. Got a whole list of shit done on the ol' gal. Once we're done with it, she's off to the body shop, and all the panels will be the same color. Hype

>>24639805I've heard that primer will suck moisture in and rust metal underneath. Not sure if this is true or just boomer lore.
>>24640485They said it, that and they're from Detroit so they're experts on rust
>>24640490They said it, what?
>>24640443Fuck off. You add nothing.
>>24640485It does. Part of it being porous so the paint can stick is also why it absorbs and holds moisture. It'll take a long time for it to hold a significant amount to cause rust, but I'm sure being over fresh welds isn't good.>>24640469I added that into the main text, I can take it away if you want. >>24640719What do you add? So I went by the tire shop to look for something besides my shitty BFGs apparently my options are Cooper Cobra continental GT for the front and blocky cobras for the rear
>>24642337Firehawk Indy 500
>>24642400Are they speed rated for more than. 120. I'm kinda frustrated there are no remotely performance oriented tires for 15 inch rims. I might have to get 17 inch rims if I want any kind of performance
>>2464242715” is your problem, nobody makes tires for them. Go up to 18 it’s probably the most common size and you can fit some hyuuuuuge brakes
>>24642446I'm stuck with the rock and hard place problem. I want sidewall but I also want performance
>>24642453Mickey Thompson Street ETs come in like a 275 50 15
>>24642455Street strip tire sounds good. I'm going out drag racing and I want to put down good times. My 3 year old tires are not up to the task
>>24642468Be prepared for 200 bucks a tire. They're incredibly good tires for what you're needing though.
>>24641174>Wrong. It's 31 years old. Older than you zoomie.Nah, faggot, it's younger and still a shitpile that isn't, and never will be a classic.
>>24642453Try Falken AZENIS RT660 if you can run 245/40ZR15 tires.

>>24642453Look on summit, loads of options there for 15" rims
>>24642470Kinda what I was expecting although I'm afraid I'll be looking at 300 a tire for some

>>24642478That's perfect for the front. I might see if Americas tire can get that in stock. For the rears I might have some issues. I have 275 60r15s. It's really wide and I think the only performance tire I can get for that size would be something just shy of drag radials
kek, this is probably the shit flingingest thread on /o/
>>24642546No but I'll spend alot of time churning the shit in your ass in whichever dumb fucking graveyard you're jerking off in.
