1983 Camaro Berlinetta for sale near me, thinking about copping one and the price is right. anyone know any issues with these i'd miss from just basic used car research? seems like a fun v6
>>
anon that's not even 100 horsepower
>>
>>24603168
The berlinetta is cool, but if they want anything over like 3k for a v6 f-body, don't buy it. The F-Body is a far shittier car than you think, and the prices on them now is insane. Literally anything will break on an F-Body besides the engine. I don't know too much about the v6 but the v8 is basically the only thing that won't break on a f-body
>>
>>24603179
hes asking 1500 for it. only real exterior issues is the drivers side door could use some paint. the interior is cleaner than a lot of similarly aged cars ive seen
>>
>>24603217
$1500 is a steal if it’s clean and runs! I’m sure it’s faster than my 70s Datsun so you’ll be able to keep up with traffic. And it’s a Chevy so parts are everywhere.
>>
>>24603217
1500 aint bad, if it's not rotted underneath, make sure you check, good price for a turd gen
>>24603234
Berlinetta stuff can be basically impossible to find, but most mechanical things should be piss easy. Just don't be surprised when it WILL break
>>
>>24603179
the v6 is as reliable as an sbc after like 86 and the berlinettas are rare the thing he really needs to worry about is the 700r4
>>
>>24603264
700r4?

>>24603246
yea i was gonna go check it out later this week if it's not gone by then. fingers crossed
>>
>>24603168
shitty mullet trailer trash car, engine is the only durable part if it's a V8

source: I own one and every V6 owner I know larps and has to wrench on it every weekend

>>24603179
based and accurate

>>24603264
>thinks the shitty povertyspec v6 will outlast a transmission that has outlived most zoomers on this board
KEK
>>
>>24603168
Buy it, jam a 6.0/4l80 in it and hoon the shit out of it
>>
>>24603168
Do not ever buy a V6 f body. You will end up wanting more power and swaps are a pain in the dick (they never cool properly) and you'll end up spending as much to convert it as you would just buying one that came with a V8.
>>
>>24603985
This. I bought a GTA for $2K 2 months ago running and driving.
>>
>>24603168
A transmission that is allergic to shifting hard, an anemic engine, and awful rear ends.
If you go the third gen camaro route and want to go fast, get ready to do some serious wrenching. Posi swap, transmission rebuild/upgrade, SBC swap with an engine that actually makes more than 400 horsepower, and suspension upgrades. If your looking for a neat beater though, you've got one.
>>
>>24603962
>yeah the 700r4 will oulast the car
fucking larper the 700r4 is a fucking 4l60e but mechanically controlled literally cant handle the same power as a fucking t5 unless you build them then they can handle the same power as a t5
>>
>>24604148
>thinks the T5 can handle any power
Yeah I think you're the only dude larping bud. Dare I say a sprinkle of cope as well.
>>
>>24603217
What the fuck, how are you getting a berlinetta for 1.5k???
>>
>>24603284
the transmission you dumb fuck. op hasn't indicated at this point in the thread if it's auto or not tho
>>
>>24605974
It's a turd gen and berlinettas are a lower trim package than RS or IROC or Z28. They did get the special digidash though. Berlinettas are for women.

>>24603179
Truth. You have to install subframe, steering box, etc reinforcements for it to handle better than wet paper.
>>
>>24604148
Lol chevy t5's are made of glass. Even the World class t5's from mustang's can be destroyed with a stock 5.0 and they're rated a lot higher than the chevys
>>
>>24603985
>You will end up wanting more power
Why does everyone on this board post like we all want 800HP monsters?
>>
>>24606322
Dude, the thing has 107 horsepower. It was slow even by 80s standards. I didn't say you'd want it to be a racecar, just enough power to be fun around town. I have one with a desmogged 305 and well tuned carb and it still kinda leaves you wishing you had about 30-50 more horsepower. It ran a 15.10 quarter and weighed at 3350 pounds which gives you a rough estimate of 192 crank horsepower. Something like 230-250 would be perfect for a car of this weight, especially with how floppy the chassis is- you'd need to spend gobs of money stiffening it to make it handle much more power than that anyway.
>>
>>24606013
based this guy gets it gm literally put a 700R4 behind the 5.7 because they knew the T5 would shit itself from the extra torque

>>24604148
this is pure larp and boomer lore
>>
>>24603168
If it's under $2K buy it.
Prices are retarded for this shit boxes these days.
One low mile IROC-Z sold for $57,000 last week.

Berlinetta's were cool with their space age looking interior but unless you're an old woman driving it around will be completely unenjoyable with the V6.

The car is heavy and the V6 is really anemic. You can't even brag on it to your friends unless you lie and say it has the 305 in it. Same reason nobody takes owners of V6 mustangs seriously.
>>
>>24603168
If you get it please don't rat it out and ruin the look, berlinettas are fairly rare nowadays and if it's a nice one try to keep it looking nice. Mechanically definitely soup it up (engine swap, T56 transmission, etc. whatever) but don't get rid of any of the berlinetta stuff.

If he has the V6, it's almost the lightest optioned 3rd gen behind the iron Duke.

Pic is a later 91-92 V6 with a t5 and a tubular K-member/arms.(no AC)
Not heavy by any means
>>

>Modified car
>Over 3000 lbs without a driver in it
>Engine makes ~100hp
>"Not heavy"

You're funny.

Tube K-member is 20lbs less than stock.
AC is 47lbs.
But he also had a full tank, and that's 90lbs.
Compare that to my RS, and it's pretty fucking light.
Or compare to a new Camaro or mustang that's 3800lbs.
