Was Mazda’s decision to go for faux luxury a major mistake? No one wants to be caught wearing fake name brands so why would anyone want to be seen driving a faux luxury vehicle?
>>
Looks awesome. Wish Mazda existed here, would be an easy buy for me.
>>
>>24598337
>faux luxury
I'm getting old, is this the newest meme?

It’s how the keep the lower class poor. Get them to spend all their money on high margin “luxury” goods.

This is the most tasteful modern design I've seen in a while

Mazda has been trying to dip into that market since the 90s and almost spawned its own luxury brand called Amati.

They had something called the 1000 in the works based off of a 929 but it had a V12 made from two KLZEs joined at the crank in a single block.
>>
>>24598337
I don't know if it was a mistake, they had to do something. Sales were down and stagnating, so people clearly didn't want to buy what they were making. They tried something new, and it hasn't worked, but they had to try something.
>>
Most people don't care about brands they just want a big shiny SUV/crossover.
Also its gotta be brand new
>>
>>24598421
Correct. This is why the cx5, palisade, telluride(same car lol) and atlas sell like hot cakes, Mazda also moving into the "premium" segment is only a good play if the products hold up. If they started bringing vented seats into the lower models it'd be a strong proposition>>24598421
>>
>>24598337
Not at all. You're calling it "faux luxury" because their interior design is so fucking good you'd think it belonged to a 6 figure car if it just had autistic details and patterns all over the materials like in a Lexus, but instead it's in a fully affordable econoclass car. That doesn't make it faux, it just makes Mazda based as fuck.
>>
>>24598337
Faux luxury is rebadging your cars and giving it a different brand name as if people wouldn't immediately recognize that its a cheaply made korean shitbox being passed off as something else. It also doesnt help that the designs are ugly as fuck and just look like they're knockoff products.

Mazda is instead going the route of making the best economy product they can until their reputation catches up which is how real name brands come to be. It's a pretty good plan considering their market is very niche and they know the kind of customer they are catering to.
>>
>>24598551
No you stupid retard, thats because you haven't sat in one in real life, the layout is very nice but once you sit in it and then sit in a real luxury car you'll understand why its called "faux luxury".

All regular brands are just getting better interiors these days, thats just the standard today, compare a Yaris interior from 2001 to a Yaris interior from 2021, its not luxury, its just how regular cars are today

Probably Has something to with Mazda being the dullest car manufacturer in the history of car manufacterers. Seriously each model following the Kodo design language has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the canine imagery the Brands’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of engine design, all to make cars unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Mazda vetoed the idea of Jens Marquardt directing the engineering department; they made sure the brand would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just minorly profitable FWD economy cars for d women . The Mazda brand might be feminine (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-BMW brand in its refusal of passion, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the Miata is good though
"No!"
The suspension is dreadful; the engine was terrible. As I drive, I noticed that every time I went to the track, the car had comical body roll, no chassis stiffness, and wasn’t even comfortable.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time the phrase, ‘Mazda is upmarket’ ‘Mazda is sporty’ and ‘Skyactive X!’ Was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Mazda owners mind‘s are so governed by marketing buzzwords and long dead brand history that they have no sense of what Mazda is. Later I read a lavish, loving review of MX5 by the same Doug deMuro. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are Loving Mazda 3 on Reddit then when they get to YouTube they will go on to watch Doug Demuro." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you drive Mazda you are, in fact, trained to watch Doug Demuro.

Well first off that's not even a real Honda interior, but the concept is definitely an improvement over what they currently look like, it actually looks like they're taking cues from Mazda in going towards simplicity instead of "MORE LIGHTS MORE BUTTONS BIGGER INFOTAINMENT" like a lot of others have. Other than that the colors are drab and boring, and the whole center console area looks kinda cheap. The Hyundai looks nice at first glance but there is a noticeable amount of plastic and it just doesn't look as comfy and easy on the eyes as a Mazda does, the center console is also not as elegantly designed.

I just bought a brand new Mazda this year in part because the interior is a step up from anything else at that price point. I don't think they're trying to steal sales from BMW, Mercedes, etc.

So no, I don't think it was the wrong move. They just need to do it without sacrificing the culture of "zoom zoom" and make sure their cars all have driving dynamics a step above Toyota, Honda, Kia, etc.
>>
>>24599421
Well fuck you Danny. You always do this shit. One day you’re going to wake up and realize you aren’t as great as you think you are. The way I see Mazda is it's just Toyota with slightly more horsepower. They just about have a car that's comparable to every car in Toyota's lineup, only they all have 20 more HP and 2 less mpg. I can't speak for the designs, I don't really give a shit about what cars look like. Only how they perform, and I've noticed that about their performance. People who look at specs and want power but not so much that it breaks the bank, might be interested in a Mazda.
>>
>>24600175
The only reason Basedbaru is printing money is because they're the only manufacturer making proper sport wagons. Nobody but boomer moms want a "crossover." Subaru is putting put proper wagons with AWD and good ground clearance, rather than these ugly high roofed, low to the ground cuckovers. I was 100% certain I wanted a Subaru, until I drove one. They have way less horsepower than competing brands and somehow still get less MPG. Good concepts and designs, horrible internal engineering.

If other brands just put out proper rugged AWD sportwagons they'd crush Subaru, everybody that drives one has the same complaint: they're fucking slow. Can't speak for the cars, but their current lineup of "SUVs" are a joke in terms of engine power.
>>
>>24598337
Mazda has never claimed to be luxury. They just make nicer normie cars than most of the competition. They're aiming more for the VW tier than actual luxury.

Because it’s about what the Audi delivers as a package that makes them worth what they charge. Mazda can create an Audi level interior when it comes to looks but does it feel the same? The fitment, the materials, the solidness, the sound deadening are all so much better in a higher end German car.

No one inside of /o/ refers to Mazda as a luxury car, they have somewhat minimalist interiors and look nice in a rendering but in person its all the same cheap plastic and fake leather as everyone else and since it's Mazda the paint is probobly chipping already.

Mazdas are shit too, real brands actually give you something for that extra cost, whether it's Volvo and Mercedes for the decades of dependable running and refinement, Porsche and Audi for the raw performance and technical advances, you're a moron if you think nicer brand cars are ride and perform just like your typical $800 Craigslist Civic but with higher MSRP

Lol you probably really believe that old Japanese craftsman guy hand stitched the leather onto your steering wheel and carefully planed and sanded the pieces of wood trim they put into the dash like the commercial implied, kek. Mazdas are still shit cars with slightly nicer interiors vs. Nissan, Honda or Toyota. That's literally the only thing they can crow about as otherwise it's all limpdick 4 cylinder/FWD rental car tier sedans and crossovers for cucks and Karens from Mazda. They could have pushed Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura's shit in had they released the Amati sedan and cornered the Japanese luxury market but no. By the time they come out with these new inline-6/RWD models it will be too late.
>>
They're already making tooling for the entire dash and all the parts, so there's no reason they have to go with a certain look over another. Also depends on whether or not they're using soft-touch materials.

The main thing that separates "luxury" brands from other automakers is being able to pick whatever fucking colors you wanted for both the exterior and interior, and where the material quality for the seats start on the base trim. Most have stopped bothering with the options or just let the dealerships order a bunch of white and black. Then there's the extent of sound dampening and ride quality, but nobody is Suzuki-tier in the US.

>These faggots arguing over blinker stalks
The blinker stalk in a Porsche I've driven feels like chunky shit. Feels and sounds like it's going to break anytime I'm about to make a turn. Don't really give a shit what something functional like that looks like but it seems like all the germans have trouble with how it feels to use.

Bought a 2016 Mazda 6
Put 101k miles on it
Window motors broken all windows
Accelerator stuck and it lurches forward every few minutes
Engine idles too low and whole car shakes
Transmission shifts gears slowly and it clunks

>>24606245
What kind of driving? Were you taking it to the track?

The glossy shit is around the vents where you don't touch and the steering wheel which has haptic feedback touch controls.

The center console isn't actually glossy on most trims, its a brushed metal finish that resists fingerprints.

Those MKZ interiors arnt bad at all, it looks a bit like a Fusion but the materials are much better, especially the Black Label models with suede and real leather.

That's the previous generation, the current SUV-only lineup is nice too, especially with the multi-contour seats.

Pft, daily driving to work, nothing fancy whatsoever it was my wife's car, oil changes and everything.
The car worked flawlessly, not a single issue until around 89k and then every single thing started breaking. Ac went out, alternator, window wiper motor

Subaru sales are diving off a cliff. People actually do care about things like looks and a nice interior and not so much about awd and flat engines that are guaranteed to explode.

The reason Mazda makes tiny 4 bangers is because they refuse to start shitting out electric cuckboxes like everyone else, and there's legal requirements for average fuel economy. The 6 cylinder is coming when they get their SPCCI system fully sorted so it can be efficient enough to sell without cucking out.

holy shit, this is real
you know something went terribly wrong when so-called faux luxury brand is more elegant that the "real" ""luxury"" brand
>>
>>24598337
Luxury (overwhelmingly) isn't about the brand prestige, that's a misunderstanding. The real value is in how nice the materials + design are, how dialled in everything is, etc.

Mazda isn't becoming a faux luxury brand, they're just improving from shit interiors to liveable interiors.
