Discuss the emerging neo-classic market of 80s/90s/00s cars. Post pics, get angry about prices, and yell at clouds.

All I want is a manual RWD weekend car for less than $10k
I didn't even make enough money to buy a second car until the last couple of years, feels bad man

That will easily get you a nice Miata or S13. Just need a little bit of patience and luck.

The 1600 twin cam from the Mx-5 is an easy swap. Start with a 1.5 121 as the have a stronger gearbox and driveshafts. Pic is one I had.

I kind of wish I'd been born ten years earlier because we've already pretty much missed out on most 80s cars, but objectively I'm quite happy to still be able to have my pick of 90s/00s shitboxes (which are better rustproofed and easier to live with) for almost nothing.

I suspect 2010s cars will be harder to run on when they get 20+ years old because muh electronics, but then people were saying that about fuel injection when it went mainstream back in the 80s/90s.

Wat do /o/
1. drive around in car with shitty surface rust spots and patch repair paintovers
2. get cheap dirty blowover to make it look better for next 3-5 years
3. spend x4 value of car getting proper mini-restoration and respray
4. Stop being a cuck, invest in gear and learn to do a full restoration job myself
Let's be honest I'm ruling out options 3 and 4, more money/effort than it's worth. Any other ideas to make old shitbox look less shit?

>>

>>
>>24010692

>>
>>24010722
I already own one lol, paid 5k AUD for a mint condition one four years ago, and noticed they're around 10k now but still not that expensive compared to sportier jap cars
>>
>>24010770
It's interesting how nobody ever mentions mileage, like that isn't the key determining factor in a used car price.
You can buy an ls400 for $1500 or $15000.

All these auction sites have one agenda - make it so only upper middle class white people can partake in the car hobby
>>
>>24015682
80s cars are, well, 80s. The styling wasnt there, and the technology was unreliable. By the 90s, Japan had perfected the reliability of electronics in cars.

Neoclassic is suffering
Too old to still be able to buy parts from the manufacturer
Too new for people to have started reproductions
>>
>>24019015
Experience and expanding disposable income. Knowing what is desirable and what isnt, knowing what I can fix and what I cant. The feelings that boomers had for muscle cars in the 90s has now been transferred to the younger generation for 90s cars, and we are on the cusp of the market skyrocketing.

>Electronics being the problem
Close but not quite. Plastics is the big problem. Cooling systems since 2000 are just full of them and they don't age well. So far aftermarket replacements have proven to be almost worthless junk that won't last 6 months and I don't see this changing.
