Do normies really?
>>24001624go away crossboarder
>>24001624I only do this at night when there light traffic, just go on autopilot for a second and vibe out
Everyone reallys, except for big city fags like LA and SF with their traffic. In God's America, you can get on the highway and set cruise control and just go afk.
Some of my favorite vivid memories are of driving on the highway in the middle of nowhere. Admiring the scenery, imagining the types of people who live in the area, finding the occasional oddity or roadside attraction.Even in places like Highway 87 in the Texas Panhandle where it's just endless flat brown horizon and wind turbines, I still glean something from the drive.
>>24001682I did that drive with my dad a year before he died last year. He was moving to Colorado and picked me up in WNC and we drove 40 to NMexico and hit 25 to Denver. We went to a Denny’s in Amarillo and hit Texaco and I remember the small little towns and being able to see for miles, nothing but wind turbines. I love those drives too.
>>24002244Also, I remember getting diarrhea so bad from that Denny’s that I made my dad pull into a suburb and I shit in front of this dudes house and left the travel size Kleenex there. Easily my lowest point in life.
Cruise control at 65 is hypnosis, if you wanna stay alert you need to be pushing triple digits scanning the surroundings constantly
>>24001624I used to do this alot when I drove an autotragic and lived with my parents in the country.
>>24001624>manual>short gearing>cruise broken>heavy clutch>drive in flip flopshas never happened to me before
>>24002462>drive in flip flops>pic related happensnever again
>>24002594That's a good drawing anon. I had mine fall off under the pedal once before. Never again.
>>24002650The worst that happened to me is I had diamond billet cut pedal covers because the stock ones were slippery as fuck when wet. Flip flop fell off, clutch in to downshift....
>>24001662cityfags and their outside perspectives are too cringecant shittyfags just drive a couple hours and camp?>wait thats just too hard theres no freaking starbucks on this trailhead MY LEGS ACHE!some anon asked me if this picture was new zealand as if it's the only place with mountains in the world
>>24001624I know truck drivers who drove back before there were limits on how long you could drive in a day and they would start to literally hallucinate after a while
>>24002674looks like the pnw to me
>>24001624I drove across almost the entire California desert in the middle of the night from dagget to needles and only remember like two instances on that trip
>>24002674Ironic that he posts the 0.5 mile hike.
>>24002594I'll admit I'm a flip flop driver and will probably continue to be one until this happens to me personally
>>24001624No wonder the roads are full of shitty drivers, they're all half asleep
>>24002700some people rarely go beyond their city limits so a mountain is a mountain to them >>24002872yeah this is just a little lakeheres panhandle gap if you want a small hike
>>24002594>wear new shoes>fraction of an inch wider>no longer fits between clutch pedal and side of footwall>foot gets stuck under clutchAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Race drivers do it too, except it's called "flow state" or some shit - it's how they're able to drive countless laps of the Mulsanne without wiping out during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After a couple of laps, they begin to drive the car around the circuit based on instinct rather than perception, as you would when pack racing.I remember reading a story about how back in the Group B days one of the Porsche(?) drivers basically drove an entire flying lap fully blind due to how thick the fog was.
>>24001624I drive from Columbus to Cleveland once a month or so. It takes like two hours, but only feels like twenty minutes to me since I’m pretty much zoned out the whole time
>>24001624This happens to me a lot and it always spooks me the moment I become conscious of it. Especially if I'm following behind another vehicle, which could stomp on its brakes at any time.
Yes if I'm working late and I'm exhausted I zone out, don't listen to music don't think about anything just drive. Don't even really think about the driving I just do it and don't crash cuz I'm not fucking retarded. Long trips it's even easier cuz in murrica you just follow that long ribbon of highway for hours and hours
>>24002966I do that when playing Gran Autismo. I could do the Burgerking with my eyes closed I bet.
>>24002997That's the weird part about it So long as you're focused on the road, you're still "there" but you're not "recording" new memory. So brakelights or other emergency will still be reacted to, you just won't necessarily remember the 7 minutes of nothing before that.
>>24002249Isn't shit used as a fertilizer anyway
>>24002594I take my flip flops off and drive bare foot. You don't have to change the lifestyle just adapt a little bit.
I used to do that, until I discovered you can just tighten the focus but let go of the wheel.Much easier, and you get more vivid memories.
>>24002674Oh my gosh anon! That is so cool! Did you take that picture in New Zealand? I really love the lord of the rings trilogy, the movies, never read the books, too hard.
>>24002264>Cruise control at 65 is hypnosis, if you wanna stay alert you need to be pushing triple digits scanning the surroundings constantlyBIG TRUEIf I'm not speeding and plotting overtakes against everyone in front of me I might as well be falling asleep.
>>24002681I call them shadow deer you will just see a fucking shadow run across the road it'll jerk you back alert. You start slowly drifting back asleep then BAM another shadow deer repeat.
>>24001624I like to pretend I'm in a star destroyer and traveling through hyperspace. I'm like darth vader in the sense I can resist hyper rapture, but when I zone out it's me succumbing to the effects of staring into "hyperspace" pretty fun actually if you're a star wars fag.
>>24002918Is that Lake 22 outside of Granite Falls?
>normiesWhat does that mean, faggot?
>>24002681>>24003386the black dog
>>24002674Lots of lakes just like that around here, this one is an easy 6 mile climb from the trailhead, I just hate how busy it is during the weekends.
>>24002594>>24003161Agree - why not just take the flop off?
>>24003161i do the same
>>24001624Is highway hypnosis an evolutionary flaw?If not, what purpose does this altered state of mind serve for humans?I wonder if other animals experience the same sensation like killer whales or birds who are known for swimming or flying long distances
>>24003600Failing to experience the correct passage of time is a evolutionary benefit, so long its tied to doing some activity. Also zoning out on top of that is a sign of doing it wrong.
>>24003600It's more of an accident than anything else. To keep caveman guard from losing his mind watching the entrance all night, he'd kind of zone out but remain "alert" at the first stimulus, ready to hit that shit with a spear. When we sit unmoving staring at basically unmoving scenery in front of us, we switch off the same way.
>>24001675your highways sound boring.
>>24002873don't you know you're not prepared for any kind of adversity in your flippers? you're ready for.. summer
>>24003652t. never kept watch
>>24003422Size 14.5 US. I wish I was, it's a pain in the dick to get shoes at this size.
>>24003714that was easy.
>>24003419what you replied to is 6800ft near to Mt. Rainier. Summerland trail the first pic is taken off trail but it is only like a 2 mile walk, we just wanted some pics. it's located in the north cascades but almost all of those pretty trail lakes rook-the-same>>24003435yeah tell me about it, there are plenty of beautiful trailheads with good views that aren't too popular. when i went to the north cascades it was absolutely packed and nobody had anywhere to camp/park so you just saw rows and rows of cars on the shoulder. horrendous, can't even escape some of these people lol.
>>24002674Weird. Jannies deleted my post but not your post replying to my post taking about the same exact thing. Hmm.
>>24003892>just drive a couple hours outthat is a key sentence, it is still car related
>>24001624I have the same commute every day. One hour each way. Sometimes I really do zombie out and forget the whole trip. Who cares.
>>24003667your goshdarned right I am :^)
>>24002594>drive in flip flopsdoesnt wear germanflop with sport mode engagedngmi
>>24002996I just did cincinnatti to cleveland yesterday and back today. It sucked, your state is BORING.
>>24001624>normiesGo back to plebbit you retarded newfag.
>>24004168when my plane goes down, we're eating everyone who lost their flip flops first, it's gonna be a rule.
>>24002945>get a new pair of shoes>have to get used to how they feel on the pedals all over again
>>24001643No you are distracted and tired
