You must not be old enough to remember the absolute shitshow that was the '00s car scene, nothing I see zoomers doing comes anywhere close to the atrocities we millennials committed against pretty much the entire country's supply of cool cheap '80s and '90s cars.

That's so stupid. '96 to 2015? When did generations have 19 year gaps? Americans can't even stick with an official year for generations that's why they change them so damn much. First you say Generation Y starts in 1978 then 1981 then 1984 and ends in 1994 then then 1996 or 2000.
>>23849538
>he thinks being born in 1999 makes him a 90's kid
No one is saying that fuck face. having memories of the 90s or not is irrelevant. That's like saying a millennial born in 1989 would make him an 80s kid because he was born on the tail end of the 80s. i was born in '94, the only memories o the 90s i had was going to preshool and kindergarten.

I think the real deciding factors for the generations should be computers in general, the internet, social media, and smartphones. For each of those things there's a generation that grew up before they became ubiquitous, a generation that wasn't fully adult but was old enough to understand what was happening when they became common, and a generation that's never really known a world without them. IMO that breaks down to something like:
>77-83
Computers became mainstream (outside enthusiast and professional use) when they were middle/high school age
>84-92
Grew up with computers, but were old enough to experience the internet revolution and web 1.0
>93-97
Always had the internet, but can remember a time before smartphones and invasive/pervasive social media
>98-?
Only ever knew a fully connected world, had smartphones, social media, etc. as soon as they could read and write, and so on.

Not sure where things break up after '98, I don't know if we've had another social/tech revolution yet that can define the breaking point.
>>
>>23850404
>Are you guys typing this while sitting in traffic?
No traffic at this time on my side of the states.
>>
>>23850424
I was born at the start of 1995, smartphones truly grew in popularity when I was about 15 in high school and around the world in the very early 2010s. I don't know how popular they were in America between 2007 to 2010, people in my shitty school still had those keyboard flip phones at the time. When I was in 11th - 12th grade everyone switched to iPhones or Galaxies.
>>
>>23850485
Yeah that about matches up with what I was thinking, high school is old enough to understand new technology and how it's changing the world but young enough that you never really get to live as an adult in a world without that tech. The generation before you went a while with flip phones etc. and the one after never really knew a world without smartphones.

I guess, now that I think about it, this could also be simplified down to just how high school age kids communicated with one another. There's the phone call generation, the texting on a number keypad + desktop messaging programs like AIM and MSN generation, the Facebook/FB messenger on smartphone generation, and now the Discord/Snapchat/idk what else because I'm old generation.
>>
>>23850549
MSN generation was the most based.

fellow zoomer here, currently enjoying a 280zx 2 seater in the summer and 4th gen camaro as the all year round daily. But yeah, shit is really annoying, its essentially impossible to find any rwd car that hasn't been absolutely fucked to death by "weight reduction" and or other "drifting related" mods. Also I have owned a 1983 grand prix lj before, and even though it was in absolute shitbox condition, that fucker was such a damn fun and comfy car. I ended up slapping a light performance cam, some long tube headers, and a nice edelbrock carb on the 305 (looking back a 350 swap would have been the best option), and god that thing sang, and with open headers, jesus fuck it was a scary car (mainly just because it looks like it just crawled out of a wasteland, and sounded like it too). But yeah, if you can find one in decent condition, don't expect a super sporty car, just expect a really nice cruiser that sounds great and has that 80s charm. Also nice third gen.

What’s nice is the guy that I bought my Camaro from already had full custom exhaust with long tube headers put in so even though it only has a 305 (technically a 307 because the original owner had his brother Bubbah rebuild and overbore it) it sings beautifully. I look at 90-96 as the final years of pre internet childhood. I remember when my house got dial up in 97 and how it was crazy being able to play Diablo 2 on battle net. But because it required using the phone lines, internet use was strictly after 9pm so most days were spent playing outside. Growing up as the dot com boom happened really changes ones perspective on the internet as a whole.

>>
>>23850975
I think up to 2000 is still pre internet. what we had in late 90s was so shit that it was rarely used.
>>
>>23851005
Up to 2004 was Web 1.0, or the Internet that was slower and more of a tool/gimmick. 2005 onwards is Web 2.0 with social media, broadband, etc.
>>
>>23850995
More so cultural then strictly birth since obviously you can go into the late 80s and still only be 8-9 by the time the internet was household. I'm just going off my early childhood where I experienced being able to go out in the woods until dark without parents worrying too much since everyone knew each other, the arrival of dial up and seeing how that evolved over the years and then obviously how 9/11 (especially being a new yorker) gave every parent a sense of fear that made them much more worried on where the kids were and who they associated with.
>>
>>23851021
I'm not a New Yorker but I had family there and coincidentally was in NYC just a week or so before 9/11 and flew home only 2 or 3 days before it happened. In fact I was in Battery Park during that trip and was going to go up the WTC with my family but there was a long line and I remember my dad saying "we'll just do it when we come back next year." I had a weird dream about that part of NYC and the WTC itself the night of 9/10 as well, wasn't anything like the actual attacks and probably just came from being there only a few days prior but it's always stuck with me as a crazy coincidence.

Dude, we are in our early 20s at best and can barely afford used cars.
I started with an absolute shitbox 3-cylinder econobox and worked hard to buy my roadster.
Wasn't even in a good condition, had to fix it up myself.
And now the pandemic is fucking us over economicly big time again while any kind of fun car has skyrocketed in price.
Most of us can't afford cars at all now.

As an early zoomer I got lucky to still be able to buy a fun car before the pandemic, because it has gotten realy hard if not impossible for most of us to buy anything decent.
Even though I had to rebuild the engine and suspension last year, I'm still glad I bought it.
Parts haven't dried up yet and quite a few get manufactured by aftermarket companies again.

For us it's either
>rebuild the engine + suspension in your parents driveway and get rid of the rust
or
>not drive a fun car at all
There are no cheap, reliable 80s-90s RWD fun cars left, they are all trashed or expensive now.
>>

That fitament industries guy is annoying and faggy. I'm sure if you met him in real life he'd be nice but in his videos he is so opinionated and s*y-ridden
>>
>>23851005
It definitely depended on where you lived. Where I was in Ny, my neighborhood had a decent amount of people with internet. To correct myself earlier I didn't realize that Diablo 2 released in 2000 so that does fall more in line with what you're saying but I do have recollection of pre 2000 internet use.
>>23851016
It definitely was, but even pre 2004/5 there were old newgrounds bomb bin laden games and Backstreet boys "which one of us is gay" parody songs that made the rounds in friend groups because of sites like funny junk. I found this hell hole in 06 and that was after having spent a few years with ytmnd. By no means was early internet any good but it still made waves culturally among at least computer literate kids and teens that knew of stuff like ebaums when numa numa was the hit video. As silly as it is, being exposed to that early and as it developed actually helped young people of the time understand the internet as a whole more than our parents because it taught us how to decipher real content from ads, viruses and even troll links like meatspin and lemon party.
>>
>>23849454
>>23850163
You've got to remember that we've been fully inculcated with consumerism by boomer relatives.
We think we'll find a good deal in a car showroom and that buying a used car is "buying someone else's problems". We have literally been told that it's a false economy to buy a used civic and not a new Chevy spark or Dacia duster
>>
>>23851051
It was crazy for pretty much every New Yorker because 98% of us most likely know someone who was there or lost someone. My childhood friend and next door neighbor lost his father. My dad lost a cousin who was FDNY, my cousin worked in the area so she has that lifetime coverage if anything happens to her. My coworkers brother was a fireman who passed. My supervisors at work helped with the clean up and have side effects from the site. My brother actually visited the towers with my other cousin for some pageant thing that August and I was jealous I couldn't go.

Im soooo glad I got a clean title 240sx with a stock engine.

As a zoomer, what you are saying is partially true. Yeah, zoomers are in love with all that stance cancer, but lets not forget that stance appeared somewhere around late 2000s when most zoomers werent even old enough to even drive. You millenicucks started it. Lets also not forget that the most degenerate car trends like sex spec were also not started and supported by zoomers-when you millenicucks were drooling over pic related some of us hadn't even been born. As for the drift scene, zoomers do play a part in ruining nice rwd cars and inflating their prices, but the whole drift thing started with you millenicucks and once again some of us hadn't even been born when you were throwing your riced out 240SXs around. As for the whole JADEEAM thing, zoomers do like that, but we simply do not yet have enough buying power to really influence the prices of the most expensive JDM sportscars, so it millenicucks once again. And since we zoomers don't have much money because we are young, we are not able to influence the car scene as much while you millenicucks are starting to accumulate wealth. Although, I do have to admit that while zoomers do not have much money to actually buy shit, we do have social media which helps us spread cancerous trends.

Not really, not at all really. If so why has takeover culture exploded in the past few years? I'd argue zoomers are just as interested in cars as the previous generations it's just most are quite literally too poor to be a car enthusiast because they don't want to give up the amenities of a new car vs getting an older one and dealing with the issues.

Zoomer here, all I want is a 60’s or early 70’s Fiat 500 in a color other than red for me to have fun in and perform no irreversible modifications to, probably just a modern alternator and battery unless a part needs to be totally replaced. Other than the Fiat I also have greatly enjoyed what little rally experience I’ve had, so I might consider a WRX or Audi Quattro line of 4WDs at some point, almost certainly a model from the late 90s for either.

Nice, was looking at saving up some money for a down payment on something like a 370z or brz, but I don't have a great job and I already have a few cars. Though I guess the 280zx is a pretty nice car to have, and the value will only go up from what I bought it for, so maybe in the somewhat near future I could see it and put it towards something nice. Though I am also thinking of getting a seacan house made up so I can pay it off really quick then move it wherever I want and just pay a mortgage on whatever plot of land I find. I'm kinda thinking of going to the middle of british columbia, it has a nice car scene, life is still somewhat cheap, land isn't super expensive, and they have great driving roads. Also if I ever want to convert anything to an ev there shouldn't be a lack of wrecked evs in the province. Which honestly if gas gets too bad, I might just make a mild hybrid system for the 280zx, that or just fully convert it if the engine blows up.

zoomers can't afford cars. boomers ruined the auto industry by buying cuckboxes and making the crossover the most popular body style. same with making silver and white the dominant colors because "muh resale". boomers are responsible for making all new cars look like boring blobs on 14" wheels save for the occasional angry eyes big sniff facelift. that's all they bought with their money stolen from the next generations and so the industry responded.
on top of that, they had all the fun with big block muscle and pony cars and then voted in morons who pushed emissions legislation resulting in neutered shitty cars prioritizing safety and creature comforts while completely ignoring performance and quality. all with the same overworked turbo 2.0L motor.
fuck you op, zoomers are the auto industry's last hope, sure a lot of them are stancefags but at least they're interested in BRZs and supras instead of the latest automatic cuckbox. the problem is they're growing up in the worst economy in generations, caused by boomers and the politicians that boomers voted in.
>>
>>23855148
It amazes me when people blame boomers for the cost of living increase, and not the over population and immigration problem.

Massively crowded countries like India and China make it work because they all live in essentially giant slums they call cities, incredibly cramped, and the vehicles they can buy are absolute shit unless they're rich even by American standards.

Boomers haven't done anything to ruin cars as a hobby except for keeping their old cars that are in good condition to themselves instead of selling them to us younger generations for cheap.

Boomers aren't the ones selling 20 year old shit boxes with 300k miles and cracked heads for $2500 "because it's rare" according to something they saw on YouTube. That's zoomers and millenials who got them as hand me downs and trashed what was left of it.

Anyways. Boomers don't do stupid shit to their cars, they try to maintain them (unless they aren't car people in which case they're doing nothing to cars.), millenials and zoomers do the stupid shit to their hand me downs.
>>
>>23854219
And I'd fucking do it again you little shit. I hope I've contributed to global warming enough that you have to deal with more severe conditions once I die.

There’s one fatal flaw in your hypothesis: boomers buy either Cadillacs or pickups. The people buying crossovers are millennial women who “need the space” and “like the tall seating position because it feels safer”, but openly despise traditional SUVs because “they make bambi sick”.
Don’t believe me? Look at who is driving the next dozen CUVs to come across. 90% of them will be women between the ages of 20 and 40.

Nah, it's women, or specifically manufacturers designing exclusively for women, see reverse cameras, lane departure warning, heated muff warmers, lipstick mirrors, starter motors, stop start, automatic handbrakes etc etc. Fuck women.

this isn't exclusive to zoomers. Most people just don't care about cars, and never have.

I thought most men liked cars at least in the past. Seems like a good chunk of zoomer men still do.

Yeah. Most people I know don't really give a shit as long as it drives well, is cheap enough and can haul friends/groceries. Personally I have an '01 Alfa I got from a distant relative for cheap.

No. Car enthusiasts have always been an absolutely tiny part of the automotive industry. Sure there were people who bought "cool" cars, but that doesn't make them an enthusiast because they bought some sporty trim corolla

18 year old here, I agree with this, in England people have this obsession with "Pops and bangs" I think its a load of rubbish personally, I have owned 3 cars, two mk1 fiestas and most recently a MK3 Escort, every single one has been twin weber fed, next to no electronics with the exception of a Emerald K6 ecu to run the engine correctly on the carbs and to run the shift lights on my RS1600i clocks i have, and so i can run a secondary fuel pump to kick in at higher rpms (6k+) Funny really because it shafts this VXR every morning when im going to college and he probably has nearly twice the BHP with his

Speaking as a zoomer (20), most other people in my age group don't have a great understanding of saving or investing. I'd say about 10% of zoomers have over 1k in savings, from ordering delivery 3 times a week, buying weed, etc. Which then leads to them complaining about rwd cars not being 500$ anymore.
>>
>>23856326
that's literally what boomers do

The amount of money spent to make one of those fast and not implode is much better spent on different vehicles.

The only thing required to beat them would be to make it a longer race so they kill themselves. FBO is around 300 hp with e85.... they weren't terrible when they were new nearly 2 decades ago. They no longer are relevant, and suck. Also; I've never been beaten by a Neon
>>
>>23858396
What do you drive
>>
>>23858396
I have several toys ranging from 60's to the daily driver currently which is a GTI with "some things" done to it. The car back in the day that an srt4 would've had the best chance of beating me given the right location for the race was an e30 M3.... I'd still take my M3 on a very windy back road over one of those econo boxes with 100+ more power...

I used to seek out fox body mustangs just to fuck up their day in that car. Just gotta know when and where to goad them into playing

Really sounds like you are projecting kiddo. You late 80s & 90s born millennials use "depression" as a personally trait and blame the boomers and generation x'ers for own failures "screwing up your lives". You're shit at saving money, you rent apartments or townhouses that you can hardly make your payments on since you kids are, again, shit with money. Your generation is constantly screwed in college debt that you end up dropping out. You are the generation that conceived "woke culture" and the new wave of toxic feminism. Much like zoomers you are all offended by every thing, especially something that was made DECADES before you were even born that you group together and "cancel" it. (Pepe Le Pew and those old Dr. Seuss books ring a bell, eh?) I mean hell you faggots make up most of these ANTIFA and BLM riots burning and looting shit over some stupid crackhead negro dying for not resisting arrest and this has been going on since the George Zimmerman verdict. Having to hire some of you tards for jobs, I can say without a doubt that you losers are the most awkward people in America. You shit for brains have no room to talk about other generations especially when you are similar to your equally retarded younger cohorts. How's that boomer revolt working out for ya?

Trade school, grad school, open your own business. Those are pretty much the three accessible options to decent money today.
>>
>>23863595
Teaching is actually a good career. Good benefits, summers off so you can work over it for extra money, great benefits and you can actually chose where you work so you can move somewhere like bumfuck Kentucky and live cheap as shit. Starting pay really isn’t that bad if you aren’t a retard and can be slightly frugal

It also doesn't help for some people's lives whose only been mostly on screens, there's studies talking about zoomies who are disconnected from reality not unlike psychosis but not nearly as aggressive. A lot of disconnection while being connected. People are far more desensitized nowadays.
