Thinking about buying an Element as a shameful daily. Any thoughts on them? Things in particular I should investigate if I go to look at one in person? Mainly want one because they seem to be relatively available in my area and I like the cargo options the rear hatch design allows for. Also, I really like cube cars.
>>
>>23428691
That's actually pretty cool looking. I hate how America hates small cars. They're just so wonderful to drive. I wish Honda would have made a Fit Si or something.

You can make your own. A K swap shouldn't be too difficult. Shit, even a R18 would be quite the upgrade. IIRC most honda engines are pretty interchangeable, not too too much work
>>
anyone know the compression numbers for a R18? (2011 civic to be exact)

I was getting an average of 135-150psi for my cylinders.

My sedan is comfy in the garage. Only 5000 miles added since I last drove it which ain't bad. Head gasket and ARP studs did the trick. Got plans for some maintenance catch up and maybe some front end work.

Saw a CM Accord many yards away from the interstate facing east on the west bound side. Cop was already there. I'm wondering how the hell they fucked up driving a highway machine. The Camry I was in basically drives itself with the cruise turned on.

>Also visited my good friend with the TL

This design is perfection in sedan form.

This is the year I transform my ek hatch into a facsimile of the cyber night civic.

Phase 1: fix up all the odds and ends. Squeaks, creaks, dusty lining etc.

Phase 2: performance. It'll be a daily so this won't be too hard

Phase 3: a bunch of diy bullshit for futuristic upgrades. Nfc start, and doors. Sexy head and tail lights, maybe a new wing.

Phase 4: ????

Phase 5: profit

wheres v6 accord VCM anon? did you see my post in the previous thread?
>>
OK br/o/s i need your help
i have a 2007 accord v6 coupe, just rolled over 100k today and it's giving me some shit

over the last couple months i had an intermittent check engine light for a p0497 (low purge flow) and it usually would just go away and it hasnt come on since august.
today i came home from driving and getting a car wash, putting air in my tires (for free at discount tire), and gettin a sick ass steering wheel cover

i pull in the driveway and the car quits when i put it into park
i start it again, it turns on and MIL light is on
i read the codes and i get U0107, P0135, P0155, and P0641
the p0497 code surprisingly didnt appear alongside all of these
and I really cannot think of a problem that could be causing these codes

I cleared the codes, and they haven't come back yet after driving a couple people home and the car hasn't died again yet.
can anyone be of service to possibly investigate?
>>
God fucking dammit I hate living in NY. Every single EF I’ve looked at is rusted to shit cause we love dumping salt on our roads and people never was their cars in the winter.
>>
>>23437775
*wash
>>
>>23437698
what do the codes mean did you look them up? whats the history of the vehicle? did you do any maintenance recently? does the idle and timing sound normal? is temperature reading hot or normal? are your radiator fans bloing like crazy after you shut off teh engine? you check compression of each cylinder?

is all the easy stuff squared away, like you have oil in your engine? pulled and checked the spark plugs? pull and check PCV for stuck valve? checked your air hose for cracks? air filter is clean and not clogged with 13 years of debris?
>>
>>23438189
>>23437698
also check the gaskets of the air filter box, make sure its there and not broken or missing or you could be losing intake suction pressure that way. check all air hose clamps are tight and no cracks in hose. could be a bad mass airflow sensor too.
>>
>>23437698>>23438189
>>23438196

k i just googled the codes, it all seems to be electronic related or sensor related. is your battery good? maybe your battery is failing. lots of places will test that for free if you dont have your own gear. a multimetere can tell you at least if its putting out the proper voltage. but you could have a low voltage battery thats still good if its not charging which could be a alternator issue. id say start with the battery because its the simplest. start with the easiest possible shit first then work your way down
>>
>>23438189
the only things i did recently in the last couple months were like
replace the timing belt/serpentine belt, throw in a new water pump and replace coolant (no issues after this)
temp reads normal
radiator fans werent blowing at all they were fine
i dont have tools to check compression

i'll check the gaskets of the air filter box tomorrow

>>23438202
yeah that's what i really don't get
all of them are related to electronics and "losing connection" to them
recently i had to disconnect the battery (about a month and a half ago) to replace the drivers side headlight bulb and i cleaned off the corroded buildup shit on the terminals
a long time ago i was reading my ABS codes and it gave me 61-1, "low voltage during cranking", but i wouldn't know if that'd have anything to do with it. the p0497 code is intermittent and i believe the purge solenoid causes the car to idle kinda shitty. maybe these two things factor into it? i don't know
i was gonna buy like an NTK solenoid from rockauto but im broke right now so im waiting to get paid again to do that

Extra care of the cooling system. Maybe throw some water wetter in there too. Watch the thermostat especially. If that seizes closed a head gasket failure is only a few steps away.

Speaking of Civics. I cleaned mine up a bit and fixed a few things.

>Straightened steering wheel
>Installed Ford Taurus cup holder
>Fixed throttle position sensor, was installed wrong
>Did a small coolant flush, still waiting on new thermostat
>Adjusted headlight aim
>Cleaned out trash and vacuumed

It's gonna be an excellent daily pizza beater. Just like it started out in 2014.

what would i have to upgrade to take the 10th gen Si from a 6.5k redline to a 7k redline?

also how pointless would this be?
>>
>>23441734
Expensive. You're gonna need a ecu or tune or whatever. If you want revs, turbo is a mistake. I'm not too familiar with 10th gen civics, but I dont know if getting them to rev higher is something people do. I dont doubt you could do it, but I dont know if it would be financially beneficial. Plenty of other mods you could do before to increase you joy much much more.

Should have gone with a 8th or 9th gen civic, then turboed it if you really wanted the torque.

If it's M/T no, that shit is fun even if it's slow.

>>
Any reason not to buy a 2022 Civic hatch? Or is it not a good idea to buy a first year new-gen model?
>>
I can't find too much info on the longeivity of 10th gen civic CVTs. All i read is that they are better than jatco but that's not saying much. Should I sell my civic before I reach 100k or can I drive it into the ground?

>>23446528
do research on the drivetrain. I'd wager the 11th gen will be nearly identical to the 10th with some improvements. Maybe look into snagging a 2021 at a big discount since it's the last model year of the 10th gen
>>
>>23446767
Honda 1.5t CVTs can take 250HP before blowing out, just change your fluid and it shouldn't be having a problem.
>>
>>23445715
Lmao is anyone with 50K even looking at 4 cylinders?
>>
>>23448229
>As someone with money who loves 4 cylinders, I feel personally attacked

Went and test drove a 2016 GTR today
Pretty upsetting honestly
The car had a lot more wear than it should for the mileage and I was surprised at how slow the r35 is.

Don't get me wrong, it's pretty fast for a car you can just go buy, but it is not faster than a shit box that I put together in my garage.

For a car that is 100k+ new I expected a lot more than that

Not really sure what to do now
>>
>>23449374
GTR has really lost its thunder in its old age. I've met a few people who sold theirs because it's boring. One went for a C7 Z06 with a manual.
>>
>>23449449

C7 not so much

>>
>>23449515
He's had a ton of cars that I can't even list. Know be had a Viper and a Mk4 Supra for a while. Between the GTR and the C7 he had a Mercedes AMG GT but sent it right back when he found out how much a brake job cost.
>>
>>23444759
Thanks dude. Finally bled the clutch and the clutch pedal was all squeaky, so I went ahead and polished/greased the slave cylinder. Still got a minor squeak but I can live with it. Tomorrow is brake bleed and maybe regreasing the shifter.
>>
>>23440249
UPDATE. i hope you're still around. Same thing happened again, I put the car in park at a gas pump and turned my headlights off and then the car shut off. All the codes were the same except with the addition of a P0498 code.
I'm gonna look at my car tomorrow and crack it open. Would the battery cause this? I had to pull it out a couple months back to replace a headlight bulb and i wiped corrosion off of it with a paper towel. I don't know how my battery would do this if it's something that starts the car and doesn't actually keep the electrics running. Unless im retarded, i am a wrenchlet

>>
>>23457227
If you like hot little hatches made in Japan, the Corolla Hatch is a cooler car, Toyota's kept the size small, while the Civic is thicc, there shouldn't be oiling issues if the oil's changed every 3000 on the Civic.
>>

Macpherson strut costs less, you can spend mad money having 4 struts mounted and new lower control arm bushings pressed in, it got so crazy, Honda dropped the wishbone on the Accord because Accord owners dont want to deal with that shit even though it drives nice.

They made 17000 and faggots merged onto the highway at 25 miles per hour and got creamed, they crushed them when the batteries died, or they tried to cheap out on maintenance and fucked them to oblivion. Now there’s 13000
>>
>>23477295
It’s a damn shame. The batteries on them never really truly die. All you have to do is power cycle them by completely discharging them and then gridcharging back up to full every 6 months or so. That’s what my friend did from 170k to damn near 300k when he switched to lithium.

I run chinese Lexani tires that suck ass if the ground gets wet, but it's usually sunny here and their 45 dollars a tire, ideally if you're not a cheap ass like me, you'll want to run a nice Japanese tire like Falken, Firestone, Bridgestone, or a Korean Hankook kinergy the speed rating is often higher and the tread design is better and you'll often get more miles out of them but you'll be spending around $85 a tire or more for the good stuff, I think its worth it, they're true all seasons where my chinks will spin like crazy if theres even a little water or ice on the ground.

That's fucking based for a supercar, Ferarris are fucking junk and they put on 15,000 miles in like 15 years cause the owners know it's a piece of shit and the mileage will lower the value dramatically.

A 2jz is still more rock solid desu, but yea the k20c1 isn’t bad stock. It can do around 400hp before needing a rebuild. The stock clutch also can withstand around 400hp, after that it slips and you need an upgrade

Honda is making cars that sell, Toyota is making the Supra but no one seems to care, I'm out here where the Supra is hot and I've only seen a few of them, I see more C8 Vettes than Supras. It's unfortunate but Honda's doing what they have to do to live, the younger generation can't afford a sporty car, they made a 306HP Civic for those who want it, but that's all they seem to want to do or can do.

I do put in the cabin air filter and engine air filter in though, shits held in by screws.

>CL in pic isnt my exact car btw
>>
>>23488979
Is this a 2.3L or a V6? doing coolant and oil on such a car is a good move, I'd suggest maybe throwing some spark plugs on it if you don't know when it was last done, that way you know they're not the issue should a misfire happen.
>>

Considering getting a 2015-2017 Civic, I mainly want an automatic. Are the civics mainly a cvt ricer?
>>
>>23488986
They're only rice if you cut the mufflers of like the mexicans do, the CVT is actually good.
>>
>>23488982
what? CL is a 3.2 Liter VTEC V6, same shit as the Accord and TL of the same era,

also a spark change is actually a good idea. gonna suck ass tho since its transverse and also has 6 fucking sparks i need to buy. Imma set that up tho
>>
>>23488995
damn and the cooling fan doesn't work apparantly, anyone have any tips on how to diagnose a rad fan? on one of those CL V6s?

>inb4 check fuses that mf fuse is good, although idk about the relay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>23488995
They had a 2.3L CL from 1998-1999 I believe, the whole car is basically an Accord coupe, if you can install the 6 plugs yourself that's fucking dope cause it's $195 to have them put in on a V6 by a shop.
>>
>>23489003
Yeah, luxurious as FUCK, and from what I can see, it shouldn't be too hard since Honda blessed me with enough space to reach the rear 3 sparks, only hitch is that i dont have experience with coil on plugs but i might be retarded and they're just as easy to replace as the wires in older civics.
>>
>>23488990
what about oil dilution? should i stick a 2.0L or is the 1.5L fine?
>>
>>23489019
They're both direct fuel injection motors, just change your oil every 3000 miles and it's fine.
>>
Funny thing I read in the civic owners manual. For the 7 speed CVT, if you put it into manual (aka use flappy pedals to shift), the car will actually shift up when you reach the redline and shift down when it needs to.

So essentially you can have a Auto CVT that goes across the revs
>>
>>23488909
Christ I was in a bad mood last night. Sorry about that. Sucks you can't work on your own car where you're living.

It's less about the money and more about making sure it's actually done right. These places fuck up the oil and filters constantly. My dad lost an engine once cause Jiffy Lube straight up forgot to put the drain plug back in.

Vtec
>>
>>23490968
If it was well maintained on the oil side, the 150,000 wouldn't matter to me, it's all about the maintenance, you can have a car with 130,000 miles that's a shitbox and can barely build oil pressure, and you can have a car with half million miles on it with perfect compression that's good to go, but an Accord will last as long as you're willing to pay to make it last, leaks on the engine can kinda get at you with the cost, and struts will really get at you because of how expensive they are to put in when they get worn and leaky, but that's what it takes to keep it on the road.

What killed it is the CM was just bad to the bone when it came out, you could drop a K20Z or even a K24A2 in some sort of 2000s prelude body and people would still be buying the CM7, the CM8 EX-L is pretty much a Legend coupe replacement, came in a 6MT if you wanted it, good stuff.

i think the mazda3 is a really good commuter honestly
you dont really feel the difference between the multilink and torsion under normal driving and its easier and cheaper to service. only problem here is that its more expensive than the civic which is a fatal blow imo.
mazda3 as a performance model with the turbo is iffy to me though

Why is the Honda community and forums so fucking shit? Multiple times ive searched for information regarding my Integra build and theres almost always key information or guides missing for the most basic tasks and procedures. I just finished replacing my faulty ITM timing belt tensioner and the belt it almost chewed through and today I noticed that my new belt had wear again on the lobes and was making noise on cold start. Turns out that if you have aftermarket valve springs the stock tensioner spring pressure isn't enough to keep the timing belt tensioned properly. Now I have to replace the belt and take off all the accessories AGAIN and push up on the tensioner after replacing the worn belt with a new one. Why wasn't this mentioned in all of the fucking forum posts and guides? For such popular cars they are so poorly documented and its the first time I've experienced it with a platform. Even the fucking Geo Metro community has better guides and proper information.
>>
>>23492482
Because the people who volunteered to write guides about replacing your timing belt tensioner didn't take into account the fact that a small number of you guys are gonna have aftermarket valve springs of all things.

These guides were written by volunteers dude, not professional honda master technicians.

Confirmed for never building an NA Honda. This isn't some rare modification with expensive parts, its one of 3 things to change when you want to make power with big camshafts and high revs. Its something that should definitely have been at least mentioned and I've never had this issue with crap guides and vague posts until I built a Honda
