Why didn't honda just use port or dual injection on the L15? Direct injection is really fucking shit up on those. I get its nit a big issue, but they easily could have avoided it

Sup Australia, you've got the R18, which hits vtec around 3800 rpm iirc. If you want it louder and to hear it more, get a cold air intake. Just know you won't get any extra power from it, but you'll be able to hear vtec.
Tho theres also this in regards to the R18
>i-VTEC on the R18A does not merge two torque/power curves together. Rather it switches the R18A engine between two entirely different modes, a normal 'power' mode and a fully docile 'economy' mode. Furthermore, when and whether to switch is not determined by simple parameters like engine rpm alone but rather by a combination of parameters, most importantly parameters used by the ECU to decide if it should 'open' VTEC or not. So the 'i' in i-VTEC actually stands for 'intelligent' meaning a new generation of SOHC-VTEC which responds to actual road and running conditions, rather than the traditional one which works more or less mainly on engine rpms alone. VTEC on the R18A does not always engage - if the proper conditions are not reached, the engine might never enage VTEC at all
So im probably wrong. Either way, a fold air intake and you'll hear it
>>
>>23381395
Did some more research, and yeah I was mistaken. The R18 vtec works differently to what we're used to and what we mean when we "hit vtec." Its backwards. You're in vtec from 1500-3500 rpm, and then get out of it past that. So what you're trying to do is hit OUT of vtec. And yes, a automatic will do it just fine

So according to the honda dealership (was in for the Airbag recall, they did a inspection for free), my upper left ball joint is loose. I didnt notice anything weird driving it around. How dangerous is leaving this until spring?

They mentioned oil leaks too, but I already knew about those (valve cover gasket and distributor o-ring)
>>

we only have Sam's Club around here, no Costco.
but as for the tires, I think you're overthinking it a bit. anything other than a full on winter tire or off road tire is gonna be pretty similar on the highway in terms of noise.

That's nothing pham, the MAINT REQD light is a 7500 mile dummy light that goes on for oil changes, you can reset it yourself by doing some funky shit with the key on position and trip reset button, or your oil change guy will reset it when he does your oil.
>>
>>23387621
ah ok
it flashes for a few seconds, doesnt stay on. I just changed the oil 2 weeks ago, maybe some other fluid? I bought it in October so havent had it long
>>
>>23387636
It's not even tied to any sensors, the demographic of people who drive civics and accords don't know about maintenance and shouldn't have to, their car just works, and if taken to a dealer every 7500 miles, it would be in good shape if they fork over the money.

Hey guys. Do you know of where I can possibly buy all new hoses for my 99 Honda Accord v6? Like when you lift the hood, everything you see? Things just look so old inside and I want to rejeuvinate it insides.

>>

you could at least take a pic of your specific Accord
>>
>>23387681
I would just go to a shop and ask for upper and lower radiator hoses, they will cut off some fresh hose for you with nice new clamps, also the intake hose can get really decrepit on Accords as it gets old and cracked due to movement of the engine

If you have a V6, this is the one.

Does Honda still make k engines?
>>
>>23390202
Yes, they have the new earth dreams K20C engines with direct injection and a lowered compression ratio and turbo on the Accord., and you can still get a brand new ILX and TLX with a naturally aspirated 200HP K24V7/K24W7 engine.
>>
>>23390216
That's nice but no k20s in the civic anymore? I'm sorry I'm a bit out of loop.
>>
>>23390239
Honda puts a K20 into their base model civic lx and a k20 turbo into the accord 2.0T and civic type R
>>
>>23390246
>base model civic lx
More like based model civic lx
>>
>>23390246
K20 with turbo? I thought k20 engines didn't take turbos well?
>>
>>23390255
Honda magic, The Accord 2.0T and Civic Type R have a K20 engine code so idk what exactly they did.
>>
>>23390255
>>23390260
The Honda K20C2 naturally aspirated motor in the Civic LX has a 10.8x compression ratio, the K20C4 turbo engine in the Accord has the compression ratio lowered to 9.8x to handle the boost, and the Civic Type R K20C1 is also a lowered 9.8x compression ratio for boost, but it's got a different turbo for more power.
>>
>>23390260
They're not really k20 engines anymore though. They're fundamentally different than the k20a or k20z.
>>
>>23390273
Also this, they're really K series by name, the days of beautiful cast aluminum intake manifolds with the fuel rail on top are gone.
>>
>>23390287
Damn. So the days of golden NA engines are dead? First Ferrari, now honda? Who is even left? I know Lamborghini but that's it.
>>
>>23390313
toyota
>>
>>23390313
I like those low revving naturally aspirated Hondas, so I think the 1.5T will do well for years to come, but the days of an 8200 rpm Civic from the factory are gone, I'm more bummed about double wishbone being gone from Hondas because double wishbone accord is a great alternative to a BMW for us poor boys, it's fun and doesn't break catastrophically.
>>
>>23390316

>>
>>23390333

>2006 v6 Accord sedan with 6 spd manual

>$5500
I know it's relatively rare, but he's asking way too much, r-right?
>>
>>23390540
It's a good bit of money for the year and mileage, but that mileage wouldn't matter if the car had been maintained, a 2006 Accord you got for $3000 can turn into a $7000+ car if there's alot of deferred maintenance, especially that damn suspension, you can have over $1300 in the car just doing all four struts and an alignment, and with the V6, the maintenance is even greater because of the water pump timing belt job that may or may not have been done, you can add another $1200-$1300 on that too, and we don't know if it's leaking out of the valve cover(s), power steering pump which is cheap, steering rack, which isn't cheap at $1500 oem.

If this person has been fixing the car when it needed anything, it's worth every bit of $5500.
>>
>>23390604
Well, he claims to have maintained it consistently and on time, but he's also the third owner, which doesn't inspire confidence. Given it's my first real car, I think maybe I'll look for something a little newer, with fewer miles. Shame though, haven't seen many standards, let alone that particular combination.
>>
>>23391841
>third owner, which doesn't inspire confidence
That's actually a good thing, means the owners gave the car at tension when it changed hands, I am the second owner of a car the guy only changed oil and transmission fluid on, so it was in need of enough stuff to total the car, but I didbt pay alot for it and fixed the leaks and broken stuff that commonly happens.

Da fuq is up with used car prices?

~$6,800 for a 2012 Accord LX with 145k miles..
>>
>>23392495
It's rona, we bought my sister a yaris damn near two years ago for 3800, and now it's damn near 6 grand for one with more mileage.
>>
>>23392513

Still makes no sense since more people are staying home.. why would demand for used cars be up?

People's incomes are down and the normal car payment they would be okay with is currently not okay, either that or they're being reposessed and they need to have a shitbox car, the demand is up for Accord LX because it's the bomb and the price is high now.

Fuck. Guess I gotta go another year with my 94 shitbox.

Thinking of dropping $10k on Bitcoin and hoping to double my money in a few weeks. Decisions.

The term coilover is something ricer boys use to describe every strut assembly with a spring coiled around a shock, whether you have a double wishbone or Macverson setup, if it's modern and not a torsion beam, it's a coilover suspension.

But I do run Duralast strut assemblies and they feel like the OEM, I don't know what an EG8 costs per strut, but I paid $99 a strut.
>>
>>23392646
Also I believe Duralast struts to be made by a company called Gabriel, so look for Gabriel, monroe, or if you've got extra money, KYB strut assemblies.

Why didn't Honda redesign the rear lights on the 2021 Accord?

How fucked am I if my '98 Civic hatch has rusted out rear wheelarches? One side isn't too bad but the other arch has a finger sized hole in it due to rust.
If I don't drive it too much and avoid bad weather could it last another year or two before I can get it fixed?

>I put 45,000 miles on my 2016 V6 Accord last year
>did it all with premium gas

Is this bad? Am I fucking up my car if I put premium in it? I figured since its a V6 maybe it would get better mileage with premium so that why I do it, plus my company pays for all of my gas.
>>
what was honda thinking with those mesh seats on TL S's?
was looking at one that had small rips in the seats and i dont blame the guy cause that thing looks like itll tear super easy. must be really annoying getting these cars in the higher mileage.
>>
>>23401968
No. It's not bad, and won't do any damage to anything but your wallet from paying for premium. You likely aren't getting any better fuel economy, and if your owner's manual says to use 87, just use 87 and save your money.

I only out in 91 if I'm storing my car for a few months since it doesn't have ethanol in it. Otherwise, 87 all the way.

That said, since your company pays for it, go wild. Premium won't hurt it

I went to check up on my plugs, 5 of them were finger loose, and 1, the firewall side center, took some the head with it on the way out.

I managed to force the chowdered plug back in and it ran fine for a while, but now I'm getting code 420 (catalyst, firewall side), and I'm thinking it might be related to that cylinder. It's on the backside out of reach so helicoil is not an option and replacing the back head would mean pulling the whole engine, so that's not happening. If I dare to try to replace the plug, can I just red loctite the new plug in and call it good? Will loctite hold if the threads are fucked?

Frens,

I'm in the market for a used Honda fit, late 1st gen or early 2nd generation. Is there anything that I should look out for? The one I'm eyeing right now is a 2008 sport with 96k miles, owner is asking $5700, which seems in line with the rest of the market. I'm also looking at some sticky-approved civics.

Also, wouldn't a hot hatch Honda Fit be called a Honda Swole?

My shitfit has been pristine mechanically but these rust repairs are not acceptable for a 13/14 year old car with 170 000 km on it. My buddies serpentine belt tensioner failed in his 2015 ralliart and he's at 150 k ish and is fairly rust free except for a few spots on the body from rock chips due to thin paint. But honestly I'm tired of rust and would rather be elbow deep hunched over a hot turbo doing engine bay work.

So I test drove the accord touring and touring hybrid.

It was my first time driving a hybrid. It was a weird drive. I don't know how to explain it but it feels unnatural.

I almost don't get the point of the paddles on the 10 gear transmission. You can barely get any time with the gears.

Is it worth pursuing further?
>>
>>23409028
Looking into a cheaper 1.5T touring if a comfy car is what you're after and you don't want to mess around with gears, Honda's got a great CVT
>>
>>23409040

I used to own the CVT 1.5T Civic it had some real kick for a tiny car.

I drove the 2.0T touring and hybrid.
>>
>>23409057
The Hybrid is a 1.5T CVT with batteries and an assistive motor in there, might be a concern if you keep the car forever, but the 1.5T in the Accord is a bit higher output than the normal 1.5T Civics, with 192HP over the 174hp in a Civic, it's a big car but it will hustle around town.

I paid labor for everything, only thing OEM was the steering rack because I dont want it to leak again, other than that I went with a $145 reman starter instead of the $472 mitsuba plus $168 labor, and went with reman power steering pump that cut the price from $664 installed down to $289.

So far so good.

Honda Econo motors are such low oil pressure engines that the oil filter wouldn't affect it, a Wix filter is straight spoiling the thing.

I think I'm going to get the Touring 2.0T after sitting in both trims. The HUD is pretty awesome as well.

My 2016 EX-T made 191hp. My car was a first production run and didn't have the same lower tuned ecu software as the touring. Yet made 4.6 L/100 km or 51 mpg highway.

Shame the civic sports trim is the basic ass 2.0L

Car been down for almost a week. I'll have my sedan back in a few days though.

>driving around an hour and a half away to friend to load up my car with stuff from his passed father's place
>i get free meds for my asthma in the deal which is fuckin sick
>only thirty minutes away from the destination at his little Honda scrapyard where he lives in a camper
>as soon as I get off the interstate, hear a pulley rattle
>assume its the alternator, keep going
>feel a loss of acceleration but don't wanna get stranded innawoods with no signal, keep going
>finally arrive at my destination
>pop the hood
>my fucking timing belt is loose
>the tensioner pulley bolt backed off somehow
>get a ride home then come back the next day to take it apart
>bolt refuses to come off
>it snaps

Well this car is done for now. I don't wanna make it worse so I might take the block to a machine shop to get it sorted out. I didn't notice much audibly like valves on pistons when I shut it off.

holy shit holyshit sholy shit anon

anon finally someone has the same problem i do
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck where were you like 2 years ago when i had this problem. anyway i think i fixed it on mine. i literally have the same car, '10 v6 accord. fucking drank oil like crazy. i got tired of spending so much to top it off. started having problems with misfires so i changed the plugs. when i pulled the plugs 3 of them were fucking nasty. the top 3. i replaced with premium plugs and thought i solved the problem but started having misfires and weird shit again only a couple months later. the plugs were covered in nasty oily tar and trashed. i was pissed as fuck since they were expensive and only like 1,000 miles old. i started digging in online forums and ended up where you are. learned about a fucking class action suit on honda for this shit. unfortunately was already way past the last warranty year the suit would allow so had to fix on my own.

after much research i learned about the VCM system and how shitty it is and how it causes the piston springs to get clogged and make the oil rings stuck closed, letting all the oil and shit past the piston and onto the plugs. i tried a few tricks i read online like loading MMO into the top where the spark plugs go but that didnt really do much as i noticed the new plugs were getting dirty again so the rings were still stuck. then i tried a harsher approach, used a ton of seafoam let that shit soak for like 2 days in the head and even did a couple cranks to slosh it around and added more. then did a full drain, oil change. tons of nasty shit burned out and it worked and fixed the problem, i wasnt guzzling oil anymore and the plugs were cleanish for a few weeks. but after a couple months it started to happen again so i got the vcm muzzler chip from a dude in canada. it makes all 6 pistons run all the time, even at idle and low rpm. it took a couple weeks to tune it just right but fixed it 100%. she runs great now
>>
>>23408719
>>23422319
ps if you need any tips or help let me know. i recommend doing a seafoam clean to get rid of the crud currently in there on the top 3 valves. if you want to know more just ask, even though you got all 6 pistons working now with the VCM delete. it took my car a few weeks to get acclimated btw, i would get random warning lights about temp or oil or check engine that would come and go in like a couple minutes but after about a week i think the onboard computer settled down. unfortunately all that time spilling unburnt oil through the engine fucked up my catalytic converter. clogged or wore it out it so check yours if you get a weird exhaust code. ive had it running smooth and normal for a couple years now with no issues and no oil consumption. i change oil like normal, no more topping off with half a quart every 2 weeks
>>
>>23414518
fram has different tiers of filter. the low tier ones are paper. i like to get the premium one its only a few bucks more but good for like 2 oil changes
>>
>>23422287
>Mid 2000's
I'm assuming a 7th gen, so something like a D17. Don't bother, those things don't like to make power. Probably the weakest engine Honda ever built.
>>
>>23422585
yeah its a D17A1. i got a KN filter on the way
>>
My battery found a way to disconnect on a hop. Should I be working about electrics light flashed once then it drove normal without issue after turning off and back on with terminals reconnected and batter ziptied for the time being.

>>23422585
I like them but yeah they don't make much power at all. Costs way too much to build.
