Which oil should I put in my 300+k AU Falcon?

Currently has the factory recommended 10W30 oil, and it's leaking.
The maximum recommended viscosity via the SCA parts finder is 15W40, however they sell a specific "high mileage" oil which is 15W50. (Both Castrol).

So which should I use, the 40 or 50?
>>
Should probably just get the oil leak fixed
>>
>>23226557
Yeah by using heavier oil
>>
>>23226471
Where is it leaking from? Being an au it will probably be a cheap fix, they usually leak from the oil pressure switch above the oil filter
>>
>>23226658
I don't know and I couldn't be bothered to find out and fix it, all I know is it wasn't leaking before I changed the oil when I bought it, so I figured changing back to a heavier grade will fix it.
>>
>>23226471
just put in 20w50
>>23226663
they may have added the stop leak crap which is just super thick oil that they put in to stop it from leaking so they can sell the car and get rid of it
>I couldn't be bothered

Fix the fucking leak bogan
>>
>>23227585
It's only a little drip
>>
>>23227591
It wont make a difference. Going 10w30 to 20w50 isnt gonna stop a leak
>>
>>23227759
So why didn't it leak before I did my initial oil change?
>>
>>23227763
Because it wasnt leaking
>>
>>23227763
Because the old owner used that nulon stop leak shit, which is a super high weight oil that you add to existing engine oil to make it thiqqer.
FIX THE LEAK BOGAN
>>
>>23226471
I had a tickford fairmont i put in w50 oils, as cars age and have kilos put on them, the clearences between bearings and metal surfances widen, which makes heavier weight oil more appropriate. If you go to repco, sca, autobarn etc and use the touchscreen ipads to select your vehicle they will always recommend you a big heavier than the manuals spec, because the car is 20 years oid now
>>
>>23227229
It's bigger than a pinhole leak, though.
>>
>>23226471
5w40
>>
>>23227083
Are you me?
Idk i was gonna go a ve v8 or fg xr6t
Turbo easier to get power out of on a budget
holden will handle better and sound maybe better

XC ute with Fairmont GXL front end and a 351 with 302 heads running straight gas
>>
>>23232220
Really tough choice. If i could choose anything (realistic), the latter made VZ got the 6.0, and I'd want to Whipple supercharge it. I'd probably go the ve for a daily, touring car, tow car, i'd buy a Ba xrt6 for half the price to actually 'drive' tho.

Fuck that, go for a 4M40 MK Triton. Get a better car and spend less. Win/win.
