Seems to me that the new through-running station will benefit both the city and the nation. Also, its the best blend of older and newer architecture I've ever seen in a train station rebuild.
>>
What an ugly and soulless set of architectural abominations that is.
>>
>>1959777
why is the entrance a mercedes-benz cathedral? also where is the bicycle infrastructure? it's sad to see germany still lagging behind the netherlands in that regard.
>>
>>1960319
germany should bomb netherlands again like in the good old days to catch up. nobody will miss the gay bikers anyway
>>

This thing was planned before cycling was such a big thing.
Also i dont understand why they spend billions on stupid architecture and projects like that without putting like a good skatepark/street football field/ playground in the middle of it.
Young people in cities around here dont have anything to do except binge drinking and being little shits in the streets.
Its like they dont even care about the people living there.

This pisses me of so much. I've been to some big cities in different countrys and they all seem to put money in the health of citizens and giving kids something to do exect the glorious germany.

>Building multi billion euro worth of stupid design projects
Yes
>invest a few millions in the health and wellbeing of citizens
Fuck no
>>

>skatepark/street football field
no one wants that shit because it draws undesirables to the area
annoying as shit to have a bunch of retards yelling and blasting music for their pickup basketball game at 10pm

>This thing was planned before cycling was such a big thing.
in 1870 before the invention of the safety bicycle?
>invest a few millions in the health and wellbeing of citizens
like the other anon said it'll just become a gathering place for shitheads, can't have shit in "multicultural" places.

Qrd?

It looks nice

The best thing I've heard about it, that the capacity stays the same in comparison to the old station. It would have made more sense to keep the current station and add a small underground section for long distance trains. Like they did in Berlin or Zürich.

But this wouldn't increase profits for real estate firms so its sadly not possible.

>no one wants that shit because it draws undesirables to the area
you are a fucking mongoloid, the existence of the station in itself will do that or do you think drug addicts aren't undesirable but somehow kids skating are?

This. Every big trainstation in germany is a druggie/crime hotspot. It would be better if they tried to make it a place appealing to familys and children.
No dark corners, no grafittis allowed, and no creeping around after say 10pm.

I have a local skatepark in my area that is working really great. Its actually a enoyable place for familys with children.
Well lit, middle of the city and no druggies or gypsies hanging around. Many benches to chill.

i did a quick search and couldnt find a explanation why they put a mercedes star on it, only that they put it on in the 50s and now removed it until construction is finished 2025

Cool it with the antisemitism, this is a blue board.

What's up with solar vaginas?
Why not just put panels on rooftops?
Oh right because peasants don't see how eco friendly their lords are.

Why is there a Mercedes emblem on the building?

>Stuttgart
>why is there Mercedes anything
Ever read where Mercedes Benz comes from?
>>
I hear "Stuttgart" and my mind goes to Porsche, not Mercedes Benz.

If our democracy weren't subverted by auto-parasites (esp. 70s and 00s with Abwrackprämie) we would probably not be as car dependent.
>mercedes cathedral
There's part of your answer.
It's not even like these car companies would be unable to make other things and do great in train/bus/logistics/otherPersonalTransport industries.
It's just that the whole administrative process/government has become unimaginative and unambitious and business, esp. big corpos lack any vision or flexibility.
That's what you get when politics try to do economy and "the economy" is allowed to have inordinate say doing politics.
corruption and "inexplicable" decisions.
>>
>>1964822
it's purely about profit, trains and busses are only produced in comparatively small numbers, and margins on bicycles are razor thin. high volumes and huge margins make producing cars very attractive. taking that into account corruption, lobbying, buying up and removing public transit and replacing it with highways makes complete sense in you're an amoral piece of shit. and then they got a pat on the back for supporting "progress".
>>
>>1960319 Stuttgart is MB's home, perhaps they're providing some funding for the works
>>
>>1959777
The question is why tear up the existing facilities just to rebuild them. Why not just add another albeit smaller underground through station like they did in Zurich?

Also putting parks near or around train stations is completely retarded. That's some of the most valuable land there, and people who arrive by train don't want to go to a park, they want to go do business, shopping or leisure activities. So why put a park in the worst possible location, where a lot of people will be passing through? Urban parks should be like an eye of the hurricane, right in a place which is out of the way from movement. Not *in* the way.
>>
>>1964920
the star was put on in the 50s Because Mercedes paid money for the Reconstruction of the war damaged station and rails.

kinda funny a car company paying for rail in the 50s we weren't as stupid as now >>1964822

its just peak sovl to max soulless.

basically they wanted to replace this dead end station with many tracks with a underground one with less tracks which is faster and can handle more trains.

Protests really started by greens with old trees being felled. then people searched more and more bad things about it and many more NIMBYs started protesting.

now people protest against:
Trees being felled
muh anhydrite will react with water and destroy the whole city
old buildings being destroyed
to people playing engineers and saying everything is wrong (slower than old station, sloped platforms so baby's will roll into the tracks and die, not wide enought people will die if there is a fire.)
and its really really expensive and the money would have been better spend at small stations or the general grid.

in the end it cost a ton of money, the new train station is not much faster than the old one, all the gained city space is wasted on a boring park which is a hassle to cross by foot.

you could have modernized or downsized it and added a smaller underground station, or many other options. but we went with the prestige project of the century which is a construction site for decades cost an incredible amount of money,

far worse then you could ever imagine

i've been passing through there almost daily for over 15 years now, give or take
S21 is a cursed project overall. there's decent arguments both in favor and against it but at this point i just want this fucking thing to come to an end.
