The Rocky Mountaineer only operates during the day, and guests who take the 2-day trip are provided a hotel stay during night time while the crew restocks the train and does maintenance. It's pretty sad that they don't do night trips, I'm sure the stargazing would be amazing in the Rockies/Banff.
Via rail's Canadian does do overnight travel through the prairies though, and the views of the stars in the dome cars are apparently amazing.

Explain me this. I came from a shithole in Ukraine to Germany. The last train i was riding there was during the start of the war, it was literally bombed and it ended up being staring 15 mins late. In Germany on the other hand every second train comes late like 30-40 mins. What the fuck is this?

Some 20 years ago politicians decided that the functional but not profitable state railways were to be privatized. But it was too big to just sell it in one piece, so they opened the market to anyone. Infrastructure however was kept in the state-buisness and told to downscale hard and become a profit center.
So some geniuses decided that some infrastructure was being used too little and closed it. Turns out that if you remove either A or B trains going from A to B won't go anymore. This sent the railway network into a death spiral and it has yet to hit rock bottom.
Every last bit of reduncany, that would've been well needed with some branch line still running on pre-WWI signage, has been removed. There's nowhere a passenger train could overtake a late freight train or vice versa.
Every time a state orders a new line for public transport (only long distance runs without subsidies), the very cheapest one gets the deal. No money goes into railway maintenance. Even worse, extensive rebuilds are paid by the government, but maintenance has to be done by the remnants of the state railways, to then rent track time to the private companies taking the cake. So that's not happening...
Incompetence and bureaucracy reign hand in hand, everything's at the limit and investment is only ever announced but never delivered.

Our railways are a fucking laughing stock and will be for decades to come.

Texas is my cunt. I know /n/ loves to hate on Texas/Dallas but I love the DART and its yellow Japanese trains.

It may have a few too many park-n-ride stations but it also has some practical/cool ones. Victory station takes you right to the American Airlines center where the Mavs and Stars play, Fair Park takes you to the World's Largest State fair and the city's main outdoor music venue, DFW station to one of the world's largest airports, and Uptown (the station closest to my apartment) is just neat for being an especially deep underground station.

We also have a neat streetcar/trolley system that operates a random assortment of historic trolley cars that have come from across North America and Europe. It's operated as a non-profit and is entirely free to use. And unlike some other historic trollies in the US its pretty useful since it connects two dart stations together and runs through one of the bigger nightlife areas of Dallas and all the way into downtown.

that's a Bombardier (now owned by Alstom) train. SBB/CFF/FFS management at that time made the decision not to be too dependent on Stadler, who didn't have a portfolio of express trains back then. Bombardier had an assembly line in Switzerland, so SBB went with them. I don't go through the lengths how the whole thing was a disaster from the very start.
now contrary to the guy who posted the train and dislikes them, I actually like riding them. yeah they shake like hell whenever they pass over a switch and they literally stink like shit because the bio toilet vents release the gas directly to the people standing on the platforms. they run reliably nowadays and I like a train where you can hear the electric motor when the train accelerates.
my personal beef is with the Stadler Giruno train, which SBB/CFF/FFS uses between Zurich and Milan. I had 3 bad encounters while riding this train, with being stuck inside a tunnel for 1 hour being the worst so far.

Attempts have been made but had to be taken back at great cost. And it was as retarded as it sounds.
Trucks already pay pretty high road tolls + loads of tax so if the latter wasn't getting embazzled elsewhere it would probably not be so far away anymore.
Using basic infrastructure as a profit generator is generally a shitty idea and one of the main reasons why we will never get freight back onto rail, and why we won't have decently functional highways any time soon again either...

Meh, that's business as usual in Paris : almost every month, there's a train (RER) or a metro that gets stuck underground, in best cases for 30/45 minutes or for a few hours in worse case, pushing people to open the doors, walking alongside the tracks until the nearest emergency exit or station if the train stopped close enough to it's departure/arrival
Latest example (a month ago), multiple metros of line 4 that were stuck for two hours in tunnels, without air conditioning in a 30C temperature

Here is the new train that VIA Rail - the crown agency that operates national passenger transit in Canada - will be operating soon.

They're Siemens SC-42's and are pretty nice trains. They can travel 201 kilometers an hour although due to our aging infrastructure, they will be capped at 160 kilometers an hour which is not the greatest, but still decent for North America. They will be operating on the Windsor to Québec City corridor which is the main rail corridor running through Ontario, the most densely populated part of Canada (which is also the corridor that hopefully will one day get high speed rail...just probably not in my lifetime).

I think the interior is quite ugly, unfortunately. It suffers from that contemporary design aesthetic where everything is fucking monochrome white/grey/black and looks like a sterile operating room or something, but the exterior is quite nice in comparison. The exterior has a new livery (the old VIA trains were silver/blue/yellow) which looks pretty sleek.

I hope I can ride one soon but I am not sure when they will enter full service.

Also the washrooms are ridiculously large but I guess that's for wheelchairs and old people. And again, it suffers from that white, sterile aesthetic...it almost looks like it's a washroom on a space ship or something. Really ugly and I am sure within a year they will be filthy and everything will be all scratched up from wheelchairs and other retards.

The older test trains have the black band, they will go back to factory for final revision. The serial trains that are used nowadays have more yellow band on the front

Tons of those were still around when I was a and they fascinated me to no end
>Windows that open (and telling/being told by others to close then because they would cause a huge draft in the compartment)
>Bench seats
>Some had double (instead of single) sliding doors to seperate the compartments from the entrance (you only had to pull on one side of the door and the other one would magically go the opposite direction)
>The main doors were inoperable as a child (You had to rotate a fuckhueg lever 180° before simultaneously pulling the soor back and to your side to make it fold while standing an arms length away from the door because it has a very wired kind of foot plate that has to fold up)

YSK that products which have 666 in the barcode number are made much better than the other products. Theyre healthier, and they taste much better. The packaging also contains depictions of religious symbolism. I suggest you go verify this fact for yourself, if you want to be caught up to speed on the state of our hellish existence.

SJ 3000, a.k.a. SJ X55: a long-distance version of Bombardier Regina.

Seats 240 in a combination of first class, "second class calm" (basically disturbance-free second class) and regular second class. Seats are big and legroom is great, even in second class. Toilets are over-sized to allow for easy access and they are usually very fresh, since these trains are only equipped with pre-booked seats.

A nice cafeteria is available on all trains where you can buy snacks and food. If you ride in first class your wagon has a small snack bar with water, fruit, some sweet snack and coffee and it's included in your ticket price. You also get a basic free breakfast on early departures when in first class. Second class calm have a beverage bar with free coffee and water. Regular second class gets nothing, but can of course walk to the catering cart to buy whatever they wish.

Top speed is about 200 km/h.
