We usually take our signs for granted. What are your favourites? I'm a big fan of the font "Toronto Subway"

For me, it's MUTCD Series E (Modified).

Transport is so beautifully readable and timeless. Going to France and Germany I immediately noticed how I needed to be much closer to their signs to read them.
Rail Alphabet is a close second, but its revolting bastard child Rail Alphabet 2 is so soulless and unreadably thin that it loses points for having "inspired" it.

Irish road signs appear to take cues from their British counterparts, but have somehow bastardised such a simple design by making the Irish language text not only a different size, but also writing it with italics and different casing.
>>
>>1853913
Road signs in the Scottish Highlands on the other hand look much more uniform, but still does enough to distinguish between languages by using a different yet familiar colour for the Gaelic text.

The Welsh don't differentiate languages on signs at all, which is less visually noisy but makes me feel like I'm having a stroke when the first half of a sign makes sense and then I try to read the second half.

m8... thats not helvetica

know this thread is for good fonts but look at this shit

Probably Johnston but I may be biased on account of being from London.
>>1853664
Helvetica is fine for the correct application – like this.
>>1853973
How so?
>>1853912
Really easy to read – even when there's a large amount of information, like in your example.
>>1853974
Yeah that's really fucking stupid. I wonder what the designer's rationale was.
>>
>>1853976
Forgot pic of Johnston.

You can clearly see that the text in the image isn't helvetica -- the R's and the e's and the c's are all incorrect

Can you link please? Not arguing, just curious. I always wondered if it was AG Book or Standard.
>>
>>1854211
not that anon, but previous MTA signage was in Standard.

>>1854218
Thanks. I've just been reading up. Like this anon should do:

Maybe use your Cheeto stained paws to do some research instead of calling names (that you wouldn't dare use irl), keyboard warrior.

Looks like Century, or a derivative. It's a great typeface but not really suited to road signage.

Yes it is
>>
>>1854281
Since that's an intersection, does the sign indicate the name of the street that you're on, or the name of the street that crosses it?
>>
>>1854481
The latter.

Whe did they make is so light? It's anaemic. Also fun fact the creator of Gill Sans was a paedo, fucked his dog and sisters.

Anyway, for me it's Joanna.

So you got all angry because you can't understand that whilst that type does look nice, there exists a situation know as "horses for courses". All you can do is blindly contradict because you know very little. I'd wager you also have very little. That's your last (You). Stay ignorant, champ.

The old neon NJ Turnpike variable message signs from the 50s were in service until sometime in the 2010s
