Soviet-era planes are the most beautiful and sound like a jet should sound. That's real flying and not some computers with wings like modern western crap. Prove me wrong.

>omg this country's flying buses are way cooler and exotic because they're harder to drive

are you one of those guys who liked the soviet aesthetic and then became a commie, like those retards who became nazis because of the aesthetic?

i like the aesthetics of both but both soviet communism and nazism were pants on head retarded as political and economic systems.

No, I posted all those because they're examples of soviet aviation technology (and politics) as told by the son of a soviet fighter pilot. The USSR sucked and everything it made, with the exception of the AK and the Soyuz were garbage.
I would fight to the death to stop you from putting me on an aircraft designed in the soviet union, because as long as I'm on the ground I at least have a chance.
Just look up aeroflot accident rates, jesus fucking christ, these people could not design or maintain aircraft, literally to save their lives.
>>
>>1809234
It wasn’t that the designers were bad, it was that they had nothing to work with. They were trying to compete with the US on an Africa tier budget. Consequently everything they built was total shit. At least they don’t hold the crown for worst manufacturing of any communist country because early communist China existed.

>Even though these numbers don’t paint a particularly grim picture of Russia’s aviation industry, there is always room for improvement. In the Aviation Safety Network (ASN), a website of the Flight Safety Foundation that keeps track of aviation accidents, Russia ranks second in the 25 worst regions in the world by the number of fatal accidents from 1945 until now. Over that period, the country experienced 525 accidents with 8,453 fatalities in total and is currently surpassed only by the U.S. (with 846 accidents and 10,792 deaths).
>Yet, given the higher passenger flow in the U.S., it would be wrong to put it on the same level with Russia. In 2017, the U.S. carried 849.4 million passengers while Russia - 105 million, according to Russias's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation).

Kek based. Fuck Russia in all its manifestations. Still not as bad as early communist China at manufacturing though. Still never tried to use pig iron as high quality steel.

I love soviet aviation but if their passenger planes were really so fucking great then the Chinese airlines would still have thousands of them instead of Boeings.

this. but it's just interesting to look at unique airplanes like >>1817098 that we don't often see. also the fact that some of these are still operating is pretty amazing/scary. "time to replace the ol' vacuum tube"

>with the exception of the Soyuz

No, the Soyuz was a piece of shit as well and it’s a small miracle that Gagarin made it back to earth in one piece after being launched into space in that glorified tin can. For a man who claimed not to believe in God, he certainly got a lot of help from Him that day.

They're exotic you tards, you can think a thing is cool and interesting without replacing everything modern with the weird old steampunk curiosity.

Actually you know what, I take that back. Shit for brains batavophiles are doing exactly that with old bike technology. But there isn't any real risk here because airlines have insurance to deal with, so you can rest easy, those things will eventually all crash and then you won't have to see them again.

Shut the fuck up, commentards "Soviet plain bad cause its soviet". OP is right, Russian planes are WAY too underrated. Sure, they aren't modern nowadays and I probably would think twice before boarding one, but after all, soviet jetliners were the safest airliners at that time.

I have the same opinion on european locomotives from the 1960's to 1980's era. They required skill and knowledge. L
Today there is the unified control pult (pic very related) and any retard with a two digit IQ can become a "train driver" in just 9 months...

>>1808404
Russian planes are trash. Proof, most Russian airliners today are western. There might be few Soviet Era relics still flying, but huge majority of fleets of Russian airlines are mostly western aircraft. Fuck even the new Sukhoi Superjet is more of Suckhoi Shitjet. While their actual hard orders hasn't evaporated as hard as signed letters of intent, their orders aren't doing that well.

Fuck, even their largest export customer, Irish City Jet slashed their order by half and final delivered aircraft was flown straight into mothball. They grounded entire fleet due to unreliability of aircraft and higher than advertised operating costs, but they couldn't cancel the final aircraft due to contractual obligations so they had to take delivery. Prior to shit hitting the fan in Ukraine they were negotiating selling all of their aircraft back manufacturer. Dunno whats going on with that due to war.

Only pariah countries like North Korea and Iran use Soviet and Russian aircraft anymore on wider scale as they can't get anything better due to sanctions.

>>1808421
>>1818917
Antonov is Ukrainian company.

>>1823712
Even that shitbird will require major redesign due to Russians having to replace all now sanctioned western systems on the plane. That will delay it few years.
>>
>>1817728
Gagarin didn't fly in space on the Soyuz you fucking retard. He flew on the Vostok which was even worse.

Soviet planes consume too much fuel. That's the main reason.
